Last Sunday was Mother’s Day. I have mixed feelings about this day. When I was younger my mom was the only mom I thought about. Now that I’m a teenager, I think about my birth mom a lot. Especially on Mother’s Day. But I have a few issues with certain things. Especially memes calling birth mom heros and this one here.

1. Birth moms didn’t do anything heroic. My birth mom isn’t a hero. She didn’t save me. She didn’t do anything special. She didn’t find a cure for cancer. She made an adoption plan. That’s not heroic.

2. Birth moms put her child’s needs above her own. Honestly, I don’t feel like my birth mom did. I’m sure when she chose adoption she was thinking about herself. Not me. She was probably thinking how hard it would be raising me herself. She probably thought she could finish college and have a regular life without me at her hip. So no my birth mom didn’t put my needs first. She put hers first.

3. Thanking birth moms for choosing life. Why do we keep doing this? I’m not thankful for life. I’m sure most of you don’t thank moms who keep their kids for choosing life. I have nothing to thank my birth mom for. Maybe pain and abandonment but not adoption.

4. Birth moms choose adoption out of love. Adoption isn’t love. It’s full of pain and heartache.
