Saloon was a girl with dreams of being an actress, but with little success in the big cities had somewhat begrudgingly ended up in this remote location getting the gigs she could on a rickety saloon stage.

A docile and respectful woman, Saloon doted on her husband and their eventual son, ignoring her husband’s late nights out and shady antics, and protecting her son from the brunt of his drunken tirades. Wooly was a happy, enthusiastic little kid that adored his papa and didn’t understand why he was always tired or grumpy – nor why he smelt so funny or why he never tucked him in goodnight the same way his mother did.

As a teen Wooly finds a job working with the town cattle boys and sheep shearers – something he comes into his element at as an athletic and competitive teenage boy, challenging other cowpokes to horse races and bull wrastlin’ with little regard for personal safety. Life was OK in a sort of mundane and repetitive way.

It all changed when Wooly came home one night to find the house a wreck, and his mother’s stuff gone. Sheriff angrily (and slurredly) told him that his mother had cleared off with a younger, richer man than Sheriff and called her vile names (truth be told she was just sick of her husband and the man she ran with was her chance to escape). Wooly and his father didn’t get on much after that and Wooly vowed to never end up in a horrible marriage like his parents (being somewhat unaware of his own sexuality at the time; small town, little education)

Wooly eventually travels to the city during his 18th year, originally seeking his mother from letters she’d sent to him apologising for her disappearance and explaining that she loved her son always but that Sheriff hadn’t been the man she’d always pretended he was. Instead, Wooly meets a travelling man by a culture he’s never known of with dreams of opening his own safe haven in Europe. Wooly thinks it sounds like a dream come true and half-jokingly asks to accompany him. The man seems delighted, introducing himself as a Mr.Smurf and asking that Wooly respectfully call him Papa. Well Wooly stopped calling his own father that a long time ago so why not, he offers his services and help getting the village started. (My hc is that Wooly is the oldest stork delivery so for humanverse I want him to be the first villager)

Wooly writes to his mom sometimes. He never wrote to his father, and the only letter he ever received in return was a note of his passing some years after settling in Belgium. Wooly had a short relationship with an English man that arrived in the village a couple of years later with his own parental issues, before ultimately discovering that Wooly just … really wasn’t all that interested in romance or family actually. In fact, Wooly couldn’t foresee any reason for him to ever end up a father, and certainly didn’t think the three new arrivals from New York would have anything to do with it later on.

Wooly knows the agreement – it was his condition in the first place. Wooly’s a good man, a kinder man than his father. But what scares him is that he sees his father in him – his temper. Wooly knows he could easily be tempted by the same activities his father wasted his life on and Wooly would never want that. He certainly wouldn’t want to fuck up a kid the way Sheriff almost did. But Wrangler Chait is just so damn PERSISTANT at hanging out with his favourite ‘Unka Wooly’. The scrimps and scrapes he gets himself up to are just like the kinds of stuff Wooly used to do as a child. And if Wrangler’s anything like Wooly was as a child, Wooly knows he deserves a better chance.

Back on my grandparent bs, because I got hit with a mega cool headcanon brick whilst rewatching The Smurf Who Would Be King today!!

Note: The Pookies Skipper became a king of were obviously not the same ones Dreamy met. Several generations had passed between them, but because of the statue and the stories passed down from the great-grandfathers, that's how they came to the conclusion. Similarly, in human AU ig younger Skipper looked a lot like Dreamy, chip off the old block kinda thing!

It's one of those 'was it a dream or not??' eps where at the end Dreamy finds a gem from the Pookies in his hat, suggesting it was real.

ANYWAY in the ep they have this statue and mention that he said he was going away and would return with a secret weapon and Dreamy's all 'huh??' and claims to have never met any of them before. Which begs the question - if the Pookies were, in fact, real, and had all this lore and a statue on their king then who.. ah but of course. I get to make more parents.

Allegorist is noticeably inspired by Dorothy Gale, that’s cause @schtroumpfalunettes​ mentioned paralells between Dreamy and Dorothy and I had Somewhere Over The Rainbow playing in the bg so. I not only did the hair idea but like everything else too, as a treat.

Since I had recently made Dreamy’s parents too, I figured it was time to design Tracker’s!

In any grandparent au (aka where they're still alive) I think Tracker and his parents have a relationship that is ……. Civil but not .. GREAT. Probably better than Jokey has with his parents but Tracker keeps these two at arm’s length. It’s better when he’s an adult and has his own autonomy and I’m not saying Surgeon and Medic are or ever were … well, abusive in the traditional ways but they were coddlers, tried to keep him wrapped up in cotton wool kind of parents. As both were in the medical field and their son is something of a medical marvel they were very preoccupied in keeping him ‘safe’ as it were, and not letting him do all the sporty, dirty activities his cousin was. But Tracker and Hunter have always been great friends so ig that didn’t work out so well ya boo sucks to you parents. Surgeon may have a point about his brother to be fair, but not Hunter. 

Another issue of course is Tracker’s adoptive child. If his parents freaked out about him having a medically superior sense of smell goodness KNOWS what their reaction to a god damn alien grandchild would be. For purely scientific purposes, they’d be so much medical curiosity in that Sweef. Tracker doesn’t necessarily keep Nova away from them completely but he makes sure he’s always in the room with them, just in case. Nova certainly isn’t a medical plaything, they’re a kid, and unlike his own childhood Tracker wants to make sure Nova actually gets one.

I've just seen the parents sheets of your AU and I'm really in love with Florist and her hopeless romantic husband Hayseed. Could I maybe ask how did those lovebirds meet and fall in love?

Heh, well the two led semantically related jobs so they kind of knew each other from a distance without actually being heavily involved. Hayseed yeah, was a romantic, a constant daydreamer. Maybe a bit too much, his head was so in the clouds thinking about ways to impress zhe ladies that he'd often get distracted in the middle of work. But he never really had the courage to approach anyone.

Florist didn't really need the help of the farmer family but there was a spring pageant one year and with so many Smurfs in the village she needed a bit more room to grow her flowers. She asked Hayseed if it would be alright for her to have a small patch of his farming land that wasn't going to be too much trouble. Once Hayseed got over the 'uhhhhhprettylady' stage, he of course agreed! And he would have been fine if things had stayed platonic, but as it happened, over the next few months or so they realised they had a genuine connection after talking for hours about plants and seasons :) They were very happy after that ^^

How would farmer and Tailor's parents react to meeting Gordy?

Farmer's parents would find it sort of bemusing. Gourdy probably wants to big himself up to make a good impression to his master's parents but they, like Farmer, aren't keen on wishes and don't really understand where he fits into the household dynamic. Still they're happy enough to accept him as whatever he is, they'll make him a nice lunch.

Tailor's parents are even more confused. They're certainly not amused by wishes (but that's something they share with Tailor) and really don't understand the household dynamic. So it's a little guy that just kind of ... hangs out and wants to grant wishes but only to Farmer and the kids? But it always goes wrong? And he lives in a fruit in Farmer's room? Is he like an au pair or a roommate or a family friend or a pet?

Tailor doesn't know either sometimes.

Ok for a second I got quite confused because I was like 'wait there's canon parents' but then I realised what you meant I hope XD

I'm still have some to go of course! Including developing two for another anon atm, but I can go off the ones I currently have :) Actually, I've even been thinking about a grandparent AU~ however that would be likely to change some key events in my timeline so I'd have to work out how the hell to adjust for it to keep things more or less on the same track XD Regardless! I'll treat these like it was the grandparent AU and ignore development, I'll fix that later

Farmer's:

Both Hayseed and Florist would be super open armed and friendly to Tailor! They are literally just sweet simple living folks with big hearts and extra chairs for the table. It's a pretty different atmosphere to Tailor's house so he might feel a little bit strange at first but in a good way! The farming household is cosy and warm and likes to play silly board games into the night and there's always a bowl of goodies on the coffee table. Diligent and Sower are made a big fuss of, of course <3 Hayseed tends to be that cool grandpa that lets them ride the horses or whatever the hell the Smurf equivalent is. Florist calls Diligent a handsome spitting image of his grandpa. I mean not really but go off Florist, she’s just proud.

Tailor's:

Well lets say that regardless of their opinion, almost anyone is welcomed better than Tailor's teenage ex XD Modiste would never have approved of a bully boyfriend. Farmer on the other hand is very obviously hopelessly devoted so that's already a massive improvement! Tailor's household is much larger, especially with his cousins and we could assume aunt and uncle in this situation too. The atmosphere tends to be a bit more serious and conversational, but it's fine, Farmer does his best :) Yarner is somewhat taken aback by the sheer freaking HEIGHT of this Smurf though, but he is as short as his son which doesn't help him perspective wise.

They also fuss over the grandkids but it tends to be more of a literal fussing than coddling - Yarner likes to make sure Tailor's keeping up with proper hair care for Sower since she's the only female Smurf in their household, which Tailor's already told him a million times yes dad we know there's a lot of it, it's fine, leave off. Funnier in the human verse where all three of them have exactly the same hair so it's such a random thing for him to pick on but at least Yarner cares. Modiste just tuts about how her grandkids keep outgrowing their new clothes and could they please stop taking after their other father it's inconsiderate /j.

Clumsy’s:

Well I kind of envisioned that Clumsy wouldn’t have known his father outside of stories about him, but he’d have been verrrrrrry close to his mother <3 Even so, I think Sweet Treat would have only had a .. civil relationship with Stormy. They both tried really hard to get along but at the end of the day they were just very different women. Stormy never really liked desserts or baked goods either, too sweet for her and physical affection (so, hugs) isn’t her love language either so yeahh all of ST’s favourite things gone in an instance XD Again, they were always polite and pleasant but Sweet Treat would feel a bit sad she couldn’t have a proper bond with the mother of her first grandchildren.

And then there was Handy, who was a complete 180. He adores baked goods and sweets (secret sweet tooth don’t ya know). Sweet Treat ADORES her son-in-law. Literally gets more excited to see Handy than her own son /j /j /j. They’d have a very strong bond and ST was also so proud of her ‘handsome boys’. As for ST being a grandmother, oh god she’d be the best. She loves all 3 of her grandchildren equally, there’s no favouritism towards the twins or Mari, but she is absolutely the embodiment of this image

Handy’s:

Well, they’re ... nice, if a bit confused XD More specifically Mechanic, since Chimerical tends to be very outgoing and friendly regardless and was always very encouraging of her son;s uh, obscure romance choices! Mechanic was ... puzzled. He was fine when teen Handy was dating Architect, yeah nice, he could see a cool future there. They broke up? No biggie Handy can find someone else. He’s in love with a what now? A fish? A fish woman? A PRINCESS fish woman? Handy what the hell. Oh he’s serious about this? Oh no they broke up. Oh well that’s a shame Mechanic didn’t see how that would work anyway. Now maybe his son will think sensibly about - he’s dating someone with kids? Well I guess he’s taking the family life seriously at last. What’s the guys name? Oh give your old pa a break, Handy.

Again in terms of parenting, they’d both be very careful to include the twins as they mean a lot to Handy though :) Even if Mari is their bio granddaughter, even Mechanic wouldn’t be able to resist any of those little Smurflings for long, he doesn’t care that much as long as his son is happy at the end of the day.

Vanity’s:

Well, they’d probably appreciate Grouchy’s cynical attitude but not really be impressed by his standing. Ironically, they’d be very impressed by Don Smurfo’s noble title ... and less so by his overly passionate personality. Honestly though these parents aren’t ever really happy. Honestly probably would play favourites with Vanity being their born and raised son and Aloof being their bio grandchild compared to cloned son Somebody and adoptee Quixotic. That’s not the kids fault, Snooty and Spoiled are just kind of arseholes. At least Vanity and Somebody have each other to lean on. 

Don’s:

I still need to design his mother but I actually designed his father ages ago. Here he is :) and in contrast to Snooty and Spoiled not giving a rat’s ass about Somebody, Conte would love him!! A bit untraditional perhaps but you know what? Don loves him! And he’s kind of fun, Conte would take that over any tradition
