On 26 October, the Palestinian Ministry of Health released the list of names of Palestinians killed since 7 October. Among them, from the Abu Naja family, are:

Farhana Musa Ibrahim (78);

Farhana's sister, Muzain Musa Ibrahim (57) and Muzain’s husband, Khaled Mahmoud;

Sami Suleiman Mahmoud (62) and his children Siham Sami Suleiman (24), Usama Sami Suleiman (20), and Maiss Sami Suleiman (17); 

as well as their brother, Mohammed Sami Suleiman (31), his wife Asmaa, and their daughter, Elaine Mohammed Sami (1); 

Hoda Hussein Mahmoud (60) and her daughter Lama Hassanein Suleiman (22);

Hosni Ahmed Mohammed (59), his wife, Yasmin Mahmoud Mohammed (49), and their children Zakaria Hosni Ahmed (10), Issa Hosni Ahmed (7), Maryam Hosni Ahmed (13), Batool Hosni Ahmed (15), and Aya Hosni Ahmed (12); 

as well as their brother, Mohammed Hosni Ahmed (30), and his wife Maysoon;

Nayfa Asaad Hamdan (34);

Karam Ibrahim Ismail (33) and his sons, Khalid Ramzi Sami (11) and Sami Ramzi Sami (9);

Ghaida Abdul Qader Ahmed (32) and her children Suleiman Mohammed Hassanein (10) and Hoda Mohammed Ismail (4);

Mohammed Ibrahim Mohammed (28);

Ahmed Hassanein Suleiman (28) and his wife Ghadeer Ayman; 

Nisreen Ahmed Hussein (27) and her daughter Habiba Suleiman Sami (2);

Mustafa Hammam Hamdan (11); 

Hani Khaled, his wife Israa, and their children, Khaled Hani, Ahmed Hani, Muhannad Hani, Rand Hani, Rond Hani, Raghad Hani, and Renad Hani; 

and Nancy Khaled and her daughter Toleen.

If your feet have never touched the battlefield, then you know nothing about the fight.

You don’t know the traumas that people have lived through. The aches in the pit of their stomach that accompany them everywhere they go. The threads of passion and pain and guilt that are woven into their bodies.

You know nothing.

When you turn your nose up at someone who has committed a sin that you haven’t, know that if you had faced the same circumstances, temptations, or traumas as they have, you might have ended up a hundred times worse.

You proclaim judgment when you have no right to. You sneer at the choices of bruised and bloodied warriors on the battlefield while you’ve been sitting on the sidelines, untouched and unharmed.

Know that if you’ve been saved from a sin, it wasn’t you who saved yourself. It was The Most High who protected you.

And then know, too, that the person you see as “so sinful” might deeply connect to God on a level you will never understand.

Humble yourself. Take a seat. You know nothing.
