What we forgot.

Acadia's family had long ago been cursed with longer life spans then most mortal men. Not quite as long as that of the elves - but long enough to remember in first hand what details the world would rather, simply, preferably forget.

Her great, great, great grandfather had once told stories about how the vast Grey cities had come up and rotted hundreds of years ago. How the forests retreated and waters grew toxic with waste and refuse. He told stories of beautiful beaches and a blue sky free of the smog which had come with the inevitable march of time.

Her brother, Arkhos, always teased her for letting that imagination run wild, even well after her grandfather had finally passed by the time she had reached hardly 40 years of age. Even now, lords knew how long later, she had still dreamed of a time where the world hadn't been so....so....decayed.

When the chance had come, she took the first venture outside of the massive city's walls, into the endless desserts of the shyhaar. Past fortifications which lined the outer "suburbs" of Akkylannian capitol, Arcavia. Over massive trenches and vast fields of artillery pieces and scrapped, rusted machines remnant of some long forgotten war.

It was a week before she ahd walked out of range of the smog. Past the mountain range visible from the city's edge before that smog faded and pure, unfiltered light finally slammed into her eyes.

And how it burned.

It took a day before her eyes would finally adjust to let her see, to differentiate the shadows from the sand and rock. And only hours before sunburn set it... She had to stick to the shadows, trudging, towards an unknown source which seemed to call her - a quest, a dream to see a Forrest and its emerald green. She had a map, a compass, and the survival skills of an upper class citizen of somewhat an intact, once prosperous society.

And, unbeknownst to the woman, an angel watching over her in its eternal slumber.
