When I was a kid I had my first shiny fail. I was at Cape Brink in pokemon Leafgreen and back in the days where backlighting on consoles was not very good (or nonexistent) I saw a shiny slowpoke.

I knew it looked different, I knew something was up, and yet my solution was to *checks notes* smack it with a move from one of my high level pokemon despite it being like level 9, killing it instantly like a victorian explorer shooting a rare cockatoo with a blunderbuss.

I was not a smart child.

And afterwards I think I realised that it was a mistake because I kept hanging around cape brink trying to see if it would happen again (it didn't).

20 goddamned years later, a file switch to a home brewed console due to failing hardware and probably about 20,000 slowpokes and slowbros later, I can finally put this incredibly stupid chapter of my life to rest.

I think my shiny fail is what led to me loving slowpoke so much so I can't exactly regret it too much anymore. I love you slowpoke and I hope you forgive me for brutally murdering your shiny. ☺️🤗
