The faintest whispers that wafted through the corridor dulled the throbbing ache that radiated through her chest. Her hands chased the cooled satin sheets that felt differently the evening before. Hafiz bundled up the duvet between her fingers and tucked it beneath herself. Light poured through the cracks in window sill and danced across her wild curls; the once pristine coils seemingly more flat but still tussled with a gentle swoop. The space beside her cooling from the absence of her visitor from the night before, Ayaz Sora; the resident senior from the marketing department. A real romeo type for all of the fawning women who watched him pass through the halls with such ease. No one could quite snag the alabaster snake that slithered with such crass. Until he’d met the ethereal princess with insecure eyes and beauty akin to that of Aphrodite.

Clashing clumsiness of uncertain lips and heavy limbs, she’d embraced the brief tossing worship of his eager lust. For once, she felt wanted even if it wasn’t real. Hafiz could still feel the heaviness of his body along hers. Hands exploring the supple junctures of her body; stealing pieces of her that she happily part with for the sparking burn of new found worth. It was too bad the once the lust died, so did the flame of her contentment. Ayez didn’t stay long after extinguishing his own curiosity and pleasure. She couldn’t say he’d checked all of the boxes; men always found new ways to disappoint her.

Sighing softly, she curled up tighter to allow haziness of the lusterless twenty minutes drift off her skin along with her rolling fatigue. Another milestone to check off. Hafiz shook off the disappointment. Nothing had changed but she didn’t exactly feel like the night prior. She felt just a little more empty and even less satisfied.

“I need a coffee,” she mumbled to herself. “..and a shower.”
