Despite numerous protests from the Palestinian side, the Paris Agreements signed in 1994 continue to constitute the framework for the main economic agreements between Israel and the Palestinian Authority, including the Gaza Strip. Israel controls the customs regime, thus there is no import duty on goods imported from Israel to the occupied territories, while there is on goods imported from abroad. International aid organizations are required to provide humanitarian aid in the most efficient way possible. They must purchase the cheapest food available to aid the greatest number of people within their budget. Though food is cheaper in Jordan and Egypt, food imports from Jordan and Egypt to the occupied Palestinian territory are taxed. The taxes, in principle, go to the PA coffers, but this cannot be a consideration for the aid organizations. Instead, they are required to purchase most of the goods they distribute from Israeli companies, unless importation from another country, including import taxes, will still be cheaper than the price in Israel. Additionally, Israeli security regulations require aid organizations to use Israeli transportation companies and vehicles, since Palestinian companies are not allowed to enter Israel to pick up goods from airports or sea-ports. Even more significant is the fact that the Palestinians do not have their own currency or central bank: financial assistance must be given in New Israeli Shekels. The foreign currency remains in the Bank of Israel, and Israeli commercial banks collect numerous service charges along the way. What this means, in fact, is that Israel exports the occupation: as long as the international community is willing to contribute financially to prevent a humanitarian crisis in Gaza, Israeli companies continue to supply them with goods and services and receive payment in foreign currency. I’ve always meant to ask: is your url just a cool idea or a reference to something?
"Yes. You're quite right. That's what we do. We alert crew to emergencies, not with a convenient intercom in the galley, but by furtively whispering the names of Disney characters at each other. Donald Duck means Lethal Bird Strike, Dumbo means Pilot's Dropped His Magic Feather, Shere Khan means Tiger In The Flightdeck. You happy now?"
It's from one of the funniest episodes (and they are all hilarious) of Cabin Pressure, a BBC radio play by John Finnemore that follows the antics of a struggling air charter firm. It features storylines like 'The crew get stranded in an airport in China and have to sleep in the plane because someone has to go outside every half hour and waggle a stick in a hole in the back of it', 'The pilots and cabin boy spend the whole day transporting a piano back and forth from the Midlands to Devon while calculating how many otters they could fit in the plane', and 'A trip to Paris becomes a locked-room plane mystery when some fancy whiskey goes missing, and Benedict Cumberbatch does his best Sherlock Holmes impression.'

Ilies was kind enough to take Pierre, Addie and I to the airport early on Monday morning. Pierre had put his Audi on one of the car transporters heading to Alpine’s mechanical headquarters in Paris and he would pick it up from there later in the week when he returned for some training. With the next race being in Canada there was a two week break so he was going to spend a few days in London with us as long as he kept up his fitness routine.
I was apparently the one in charge of making sure that happened but his personal trainer might have been shocked to hear that my idea of exercise involved us tangled in bedsheets. I kept that to myself of course and just agreed. As long as I got to watch while Pierre worked out in my home gym then it was a win-win to me.
“Thanks for the lift, Granny,” I said as I kissed her cheeks after boarding the private jet.
“It’s on the way to New York so it’s no hassle, honey. Are you sure you don’t want to come to Fashion Week with me?”
I grimaced at the idea. “And have you try to use me as a model again, no thanks.”
“What?” she asked innocently as she buckled up into her seat. “You’ve got the legs for it.”
“She’s not wrong,” Pierre whispered in my ear. “They are very sexy.”
I elbowed him lightly but he just laughed it off and I continued on my way down the aisle. Two rows down I found dad, who was half asleep, and heading home to see mum. I sat Addie into the seat beside him and buckled her in before setting up her latest animated fixation, Mulan, on the screen in front of her.
“Let mummy know if you need to go to the loo,” I reminded her before pulling the earphones over her head.
There was no reason to be all sat together so I passed the last two rows before sitting down. There was only the galley behind us but since the flight was a little over two hours I doubted anyone would ask for refreshments and we would be left alone.
“Are you okay?” I asked as we hit some turbulence coming into Heathrow and Pierre clutched the armrest between us. His eyes were closed and his lips pressed in a firm line as he nodded his head. He had been uneasy since takeoff but repeatedly lied and said he was fine. “You couldn’t have picked a sport with more travel if you tried.”
“I’m fine with flying…until it gets bumpy.” He let me pull his hand from the leather material and replaced it with my own as we watched the GPS of the plane inching closer to the airport.
“Miss Vowles, Mr Gasly, if you could please fill these out before we land that would be wonderful,” the stewardess said as she handed me three Passenger Locator Forms before moving on to dad.
I filled out mine and Addie’s while Pierre did his but he took a little longer since he wasn’t a UK Citizen like us and had more pages to complete. I actually had dual citizenship through the ‘grandfather scheme’ which meant I was entitled to apply for citizenship where my parents and grandparents were citizens. Legally, I could hold a passport of Mexico, the USA and the United Kingdom but I preferred to use my UK one since it had the least restrictions.
If Erik ever tried to petition for access to Addie and won, then she could have all three passports and a Norwegian one too.
The thought turned my mood sour and as we touched down on British soil I began to rue my decision to come back. I knew I needed to be here to pack up the house for the move and visit Dr Pascoe in person but there was always a little storm cloud in the back of my mind when I was in London.
The city was tainted of memories with Erik, the restaurants we had eaten at, the cinemas we have gone to. I couldn’t even drive near Islington because that was where our house had been. Just thinking about it had the walls of the plane closing in around me and I reached for the paper bag in the storage pocket.
The paper crinkled in and out with each breath, the speed too fast for any rational thought and shadows moved around me until two faces came into focus.
“Sweetheart, look at me,” dad said but it was hard to catch the slippery words as my head swam. “Deep breath, in through your nose. Do it with me.” I tried to copy him but my intake was as shaky as my hands. “Good girl, now out through your mouth, nice and slow.”
My clothes felt too tight and my hair clung to my clammy forehead and I tried to brush it away but my hands were shaking too much. The strands of hair remained and I grew frustrated.
“I’ve got it, Bri, just focus on breathing,” Pierre said as he brushed it back for me. A cool damp cloth came to rest on my forehead and I closed my eyes as I leant back in the seat. “Mama’s alright, princesse.”
My eyes flashed open to see Addie looking afraid and I opened my arms for her. “Mummy was just a little overwhelmed, sweetie, I’m sorry it scared you.”
“Was it a bad dream again?” she asked as she clung tight to me.
“Kind of. You know, I could do with your help.” She perked up at the idea of helping and listened intently. “We have no food at home, so I need you to choose where we will have brunch. You don’t have to tell me now, but why don’t you hop back in your seat and have a think about it while we land.”
“Come on, little bug,” dad guided her away, his own worried stare looking back at me as he went.
“Do you want to talk about it?” Pierre asked when we were alone but I shook my head.
“No, I just want to erase the memories of this place.” I tipped my head onto his shoulder and looked up at him. “Tell me that it’s possible.”
He kissed my forehead and I cringed as I realised I was a sweaty mess but he didn’t seem to care as he wrapped an arm around me. “I don’t know about erasing them, but we can make new ones instead.”
We landed without a fuss and while we were taxiing to the terminal we started to say our goodbyes before we would part ways. Dad was already out of his seat, ignoring the seatbelt sign, and kneeling next to Granny having quiet words with each other before they both looked at me with concern.
Dad rose to his feet and let Addie climb up for a hug, a bright smile deepening the wrinkles at the corners of Granny’s eyes. “I’m going to miss you, honey. You let me know if you want to come visit alright? We’ll get rid of that posh accent in no time.”
“Don’t want you to go, Granny,” she replied with a trembling lip.
Betty sniffled and blinked away the tears that quickly built along her waterline. “You’re going to make me ruin my makeup.”
“You’d still look beautiful,” I said as I gave her a kiss on the cheek. “Thank you for the visit and the ride.”
“Of course, you’re welcome to use it whenever you need, especially trying to juggle work, motherhood and a long distance relationship,” she said looking between Pierre and I. “Take all the help you can get to make it work.”
Pierre’s hand took mine and gave it a squeeze while I answered through my widening smile. “I might take you up on that.”
The Gulfstream had come to a stop and I saw two cars parked outside the little window as the stewardess opened the door. Dad would take one to the domestic terminal for his next flight to Manchester while we would be in the other heading home to Twickenham.
“Oh, and Damien, give my love to Otmar when you see him,” Granny said with a fond smile for the man she thought of as the second child she never had. “I’ll see you in Italy, unless I decide to pop by before that. Never know when I might need a holiday at my age.”
“Mom, you’re retired.”
She scoffed and waved him off. “I retired from designing but I still own the company, dear. I can’t trust anyone else to run it right, unless it’s family.” Her eyes darted to me and I held my hands up.
“Don’t finish that thought, Granny, I’m an engineer - I like tinkering with mechanics and engines.”
“I’ve heard Pierre’s a man of fashion and business or so the internet tells me. You could always marry him. Just an idea, honey.” She sent me a wink and I stumbled over my feet, nearly sending myself out down the steps. “Take care of my precious babies, Mr Gasly.”
“Nothing would make me happier,” he replied with such sincerity that I missed the step in front of me and his hand shot out, catching my arm and pulling me back. “Was that a test?”
“No,” I sighed and blew a strand of hair out of my face with a huff. “That's just how clumsy I am. Let’s go before I break my neck and never get to walk down the aisle Granny’s busy daydreaming about now.”
“I’ve had the design of your wedding dress waiting since you were 18. You tell me when to start sewing it.”
“Bye Granny, bye Matthew!” I concentrated on walking down the stairs with an amused Pierre behind me carrying Addie and dad coming down last.
“Your mother said she’s blocked out her calendar for Wednesday if you can come to dinner.”
I looked at Pierre since he was meant to be flying to Paris on Thursday morning and Addie and I would be flying into Rouen to meet him on Saturday. “It’s a four hour drive.”
“It shouldn’t be difficult to change my flight to leave from Manchester instead, if you want to stay the night?”
I nodded to dad, “it’s a tentative yes but I’ll let you know once he’s checked the flights. Addie say bye-byes to grandad.”
Our farewells were far quicker and our luggage had already been put into the cars by the time we were finished and going our own separate ways. I would have preferred to have my own car but it was at home after getting a cab to the airport when we left two weeks ago but thankfully it wasn’t peak rush hour and it wasn’t too far to get home.
“Addie, have you decided where you want to eat?”
“The dog park!”
Pierre looked aghast as he spun in his passenger seat at the front and I laughed at the face he pulled. “It’s just a cafe that happens to be on the same block as a dog park. It’s called Ivy and she knows it too,” I said as I tickled Addie’s toes for being a little trickster. “It’s just around the corner from our house so we can drop the bags off first and walk.”
He relaxed back into his seat knowing he wasn’t going to be eating in a dog park and I scoured the inside pockets of my handbag until I found my keys. I gripped the remote to the front gate as the driver pulled onto our street and suddenly had a new fear - had I tidied the house before we left? No. The answer was, no. I had been running around like a madwoman trying to get Addie ready so I decided the toys on the floor and unfolded washing on the couch could wait for my return.
“Shit,” I muttered under my breath and Pierre’s eyes shot to me through the little mirror on his sun visor, his eyebrow cocked in a silent question. “My house is a fucking mess.”

Love Letters - Day 6
I have to say, in this entire week of CYOA, I have never been so grateful that a vote didn't tie--I had no idea how I would have managed to write Bond simultaneously taking the train AND the Aston Martin to Bath, absent some sort of weird train auto-transport sort of situation.
Anyway, welcome to Day 6 of Love Letters, a 00q Choose Your Own Adventure! There will be three more installments after tonight--polls on Sunday and Monday, and a final wrap up on Tuesday, 2/14. I'll post each night around 9:15ish EST.
If you need to catch up on a day or 5, you can do so here: Day 1 Day 2 Day 3 Day 4 Day 5
And for everyone else, Day 6 begins below the cut! 🎉
He’d go in the morning, and he would take the Aston Martin.
On paper, at least, the train was faster. But then again, most people making the drive didn’t have the benefit of a car that was capable of going nearly 230 kilometers an hour, and a permanent flag in the system that told any law enforcement personnel looking up his license plate not to pull him over.
Bond made the trip in an hour and fifteen minutes.
His first stop was to the small bed and breakfast where he’d reserved a room for the weekend after Valentine’s Day. The proprietor showed him the room, answered his questions about nearby restaurants and bars, and confirmed the menu for breakfast. That task accomplished to his satisfaction, Bond set out for the post office.
The idea of driving 180 kilometers to mail a letter simply so it would have a Bath postmark had been whimsical at best, and ridiculous at worst. But once the idea lodged itself in his mind, he couldn’t shake it loose. The decision to visit a prospective bed and breakfast for a holiday weekend with Q had made the trip slightly easier to justify, but Bond would have made the drive without it.
When they’d first fallen into bed together, he’d been ready to pull out all the usual stops to try to impress, but it hadn’t gone precisely to plan. It wasn’t that Q was immune to his charms, exactly. It was just that everything seemed to make him equally happy—he was as delighted by a weekend in Paris as he was by a night in an airport hotel, catching a few hours with Bond in between his flights to one city or another; he was as pleased with dinner at a Michelin-starred restaurant as he was with takeaway on the couch. It seemed the only luxury he craved was the one Bond could least guarantee, given his line of work: his time. And so when a rare opportunity to indulge Q’s latent romantic streak reared its head, far be it from Bond to let it pass him by.
In the post office, he read through the letter one last time before folding it carefully and tucking it into the envelope. He addressed it to Q, added a stamp, and sealed the envelope, writing across the back the lines he’d copied from Q’s copy of Persuasion one evening when Q had stayed late at work: You alone have brought me to Bath. For you alone, I think and plan. When he was done, he took a deep breath, and dropped the letter in the mail.
As he was walking back to the car park where he’d left the Aston Martin, a familiar figure ducked into a patisserie across the street. Though he’d only caught a fleeting glimpse, it was enough to recognize her. Even setting aside the fact that he saw her nearly every day at work, it was impossible to forget the face of someone who had shot you off a train.
Not to be extremely in my feelings or anything, but it has been so much fun doing this with all of you--thanks so much for playing along so far!

President Jean-Bertrand Aristide, the slum priest who became his country's first democratically elected president, resigned today under intense pressure from the United States and the threat of an invasion of the capital by armed insurgents[...]
President Bush ordered the deployment of the Marines to Haiti as part of an "interim international force" to restore order. Both France and Canada have agreed to send troops, too. The United Nations Security Council met in emergency session to consider a resolution for a multinational force.
Mr. Aristide was once hailed as the man who could deliver peace and freedom to his nation, a slave nation that liberated itself 200 years ago from its imperial oppressor only to stifle under a blanket of strife and poverty. But his presidency crumbled as he violently cracked down on political dissent and armed rebels seized Haiti's north this month. The Bush administration, which had earlier been reluctant to suggest that an elected president step down, has shifted its stance over the past several days, increasing the pressure and finally strongly urging him to step down.[...]
James Foley, the United States ambassador to Haiti, said that an international force consisting of security, aid and administrative personnel "will rapidly be in Haiti" to help stabilize the country. Violent clashes between government supporters and armed militants have left as many as 100 people dead since early this month[...]
In sending the Marines to Haiti, Mr. Bush said: "The government believes it is essential that Haiti have a hopeful future. This is the beginning of a new chapter."
About 50 Canadian soldiers provided security at the airport in Port-au-Prince today, assisting a Hercules transport to fly Canadians out of the country to the Dominican Republic. Canadian officials promised today that they would provide further military assistance as part of an international force.
In Paris, French government officials said tonight that France, the first country to demand Mr. Aristide's resignation, was ready to participate in an international peace force in Haiti, but would await definition of the force's mandate by the United Nations Security Council. France also said it would send aid.[...]
American policy toward Mr. Aristide shifted swiftly. In July, Brian Dean Curran, then the United States ambassador here, said, "The United States accepts President Aristide as the constitutional president of Haiti for his term of office ending in 2006."
But the Bush administration decided in the past three days, as a senior administration official said Saturday, that "Aristide must go."

Prime Minister Gabriel Attal is expected to give farmers new concessions in an attempt to calm down protests which have squeezed the French capital on Monday.
After protesting farmers blocked eight motorways leading to Paris on Monday, the French government is preparing more concessions to ease tensions.
The farmers have a list of complaints, including that working in agriculture has become too difficult and not lucrative enough.
France's new Prime Minister Gabriel Attal is set to give a speech in France’s lower house of parliament Tuesday, laying out his government's priorities and offering new aid measures to the agricultural sector.
It would be a new test for Attal, now in the first month of his new job, after the pro-agriculture measures he announced last week were deemed insufficient by the farmers. The 34-year-old prime minister has promised more aid measures.
On Monday, protesting farmers encircled Paris with traffic-snarling barricades, using hundreds of lumbering tractors and piles of hay bales to block highways leading into the French capital in a bid to pressure the government over the future of their industry, which has been shaken by the fallout from the war in Ukraine.
A protest that, for the time being, has no end in sight.
"There is total determination," said Arnaud Rousseau, president of the main and powerful agricultural union, the FNSEA, who was received by Attal yesterday afternoon and announced that they were continuing to negotiate with the government.
In an interview on Europe 1 radio, Rousseau said that there needed to be a "change of course" by the government and "symbolic emergency measures". He explained that the impression he had got from the Prime Minister yesterday was that he was "ready to go further on all issues".
The farmers have managed to evade police attempts to stop them, as their declared aim is to block access to the Rungis food market, the largest in Europe, some fifteen kilometres from Paris.
Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin, who has mobilised 15,000 officers in response to the protests, has warned since the weekend that he will not allow this to happen.
However, Darmanin has asked the police not to intervene in the so-called 'siege' blockades of Paris or the rest of the country - where there are several dozen - unless there is a threat to property or people.
Siege of Paris
The blockade of major roads around Paris - which hosts the Summer Olympics in six months - and protests elsewhere in France promised another difficult week for new Prime Minister Gabriel Attal, who has been in office for less than a month.
Protesters said Attal's attempts at pro-agriculture measures last week fell short of their demands that food production be made more lucrative, easier and fairer.
Farmers responded on Monday by deploying convoys of tractors, trailers and even rumbling harvesters in what they called a "siege" of Paris to win more concessions. Some protesters came with supplies of food and water, and tents to stay at the barricades if the government didn't back down.
Transport authorities in the Paris region reported blockages on the A1 motorway north of the city's main international airport, the A4 near the Disneyland theme park east of the capital and other normally busy roads.
"Our aim isn't to inconvenience or ruin the lives of French people," Arnaud Rousseau, president of the influential FNSEA agricultural union, told RTL radio. "Our aim is to put pressure on the government to quickly find solutions to the crisis."
Farmers in neighbouring Belgium have also set up barricades to stop traffic on some major roads, including those leading to the capital, Brussels. Most of the protests are taking place in the French-speaking part of the country.

【PARADISE AREA】
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
目の前には金色に輝くビルが目印になります。
Tumblr media
次に、有料のLRT(Light Rail Transit)がありますが、ストリップの主要ホテル間を結ぶ無料の「TRAM」を是非有効活用して下さい。
ストリップの西側主要ホテルを移動できます。
Tumblr media
東側の主要ホテルは有料のLas Vegas🚝Monorailが便利です。
駅は以下の7駅です。
🚉MGM Grand Station(Four Corners)
⇩🚝⇧
🚉Bally’s & Paris Station(New Four Corners〝Bellagio〟)
⇩🚝⇧
🚉Flamingo & Caesars Palace Station(New Four Corners)
⇩🚝⇧
🚉Harrah’s & The LINQ Station
⇩🚝⇧
🚉Convention Center Station
⇩🚝⇧
🚉Westgate Station
⇩🚝⇧
🚉SAHARA Las Vegas Station
Tumblr media
《Free TRAM》
無料のトラムはストリップの西側に3本走っています。
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
毎日8時~翌朝4時まで約8分間隔で2車線が運行しています。
ARIAとPark MGMの駅になっています。
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
乗車時間5分弱の移動なので、エクスカリバーからマンダレイベイ経由でルクソールに向かっても10分もかかりません。
Tumblr media
帰国する際はTRAMで「Mandalay Bay」迄移動すれば「Harry Reid International Airport」迄〝UBER〟を利用するのが最も安価な移動で空港に行けます。

Le Touquet-Paris-Plage International Airport is getting rebranded after King Charles gave his approval for the transport hub to be named after Queen Elizabeth II.
The town's officials made their proposal to Buckingham Palace just six days after the Queen died last September - in the hope of paying tribute to her "exceptional life".

I will call this day 0 otherwise I’ll confuse myself, so 1 April in Europe can be Day 1, except I fell asleep while trying to edit this last night, so I will confuse myself posting it on 1 April!
I feel very well equipped for this solo trip and future ones. I bought Keely’s old iPhone. This is the first phone I’ve owned! I’ve just had the work one, fearing I’d lose a second one! I have a portable mobile phone charger that appears to work well, AirTags attached to 3 items (as I did leave my new Apple Mac on a seat at the gate at Brisbane Airport last year)! I researched neck supports, and it was quite effective, and given the weather looked a bit rubbish in the Algarve on the advice of friends I raced out to MacPac and got a vest and I also invested in a Travelon cross body anti theft bag.
Today is a travel day. Brisbane to Dubai to Lisbon. Interestingly both Emirates Lounges were so quiet, as was Dubai airport mid morning. Is this cozzie lives? I asked a staff member in Dubai if it was due to Ramadan and he said no.
I met the lovely Tracey from seat 31D during the first flight. We were both up the back drinking cups of tea and stretching. She lives in Australia, originally from the UK, travelling back to Bristol to see her dying 62 year old sister 😢 She had an interesting story about terrible bosses, sea changes to Port Macquarie from Sydney and now due to her partner’s redundancy, three weeks after he achieved residency sponsorship from his employer, they are having several sea changes around Brisbane house and pet sitting while their place in Port Macquarie is listed on airbnb.
It gave me an idea about options for when I return as the beautiful 21 year old Anna, from the UK, has just signed the lease to rent my room for 3 months from 14th May 🤩 She’s studying forensic science and has a project at UQ. I have a feeling her and Rose are going to enjoy each others’ company.
I’d like to consider exploring house sitting locally and build up my references ahead of some potential overseas options💡 Any offers? Preferably modern, well appointed, comfortable, no pets and no gardening 😂
Now onboard the 7.51 hour flight to Lisbon. The lovely Calisa (flight attendant) came to my seat and welcomed just me back on board 😂 She said “let me know if there’s anything I can do to make your flight more comfortable”. I was too slow to say “upgrade me?” or “can you remove the crying babies and toddlers” This flight is very full.
Back to Netflix while I have access to my daughter’s account to download stuff. Just finished season 3 of Dead to Me, about to watch the last episodes of One Day. And started season 3 of Emily in Paris.
Usually I’d navigate public transport straight up but decided to order an Uber to the hotel and it worked really well. Felipe, the driver, was very surprised at how bright I was after all the travel.
I’m staying at Masa Hotel & Spa (it has a free gym which was great to use to shake off hours of sitting), near the airport (luckily flight didn’t start until around 6am) for 2 nights before heading to “home” in the Algarve for the rest of the month.

Egyptian Pharaoh Ramesses II was issued a passport 3,000 years after his death in order for his mummy to fly to Paris.
Tumblr media
Ramesses II (c. 1303 BC – 1213 BC), commonly known as Ramesses the Great, is often regarded as the greatest, most celebrated, and most powerful pharaoh of the New Kingdom.
His successors and later Egyptians called him the “Great Ancestor.”
Ramesses II was originally buried in a grand tomb in the Valley of the Kings.
He was subsequently moved many times by priests who feared looters. He spent as little as three days in some places, and the priests recorded their actions on wrappings on his body.
Despite his resplendent wealth and power in life, his body was later moved to a royal cache.
With the passage of time, his sarcophagus  was lost to history.
It was re-discovered in a deteriorating condition in 1881. It is now on display in the Museum of Egyptian Antiquities.
It was his poor condition that prompted Egyptian authorities to seek help preserving him in the mid-1970s.
They found their experts in France and reluctantly decided to transport the 3,000 year-old mummy to Paris.
In 1975, Maurice Bucaille, a French doctor studying his remains, said that the mummy was threatened by fungus and needed urgent treatment to prevent total decay.
French laws dictated that entry and transportation through the country required a valid passport.
To comply with local laws, the Egyptian government issued a passport to the Pharaoh.
Seemingly, he was the first mummy to receive one. His occupation was listed as "King (deceased)."
The government didn’t want him to get a passport for publicity but believed it would afford them legal protections to ensure his safe return.
As countless artifacts and mummies have been plundered and stolen from Egypt, museums in Europe didn’t always respect Egyptian claims.
In 1976, his remains were issued an Egyptian passport so that he could be transported to Paris for an irradiated treatment to prevent a fungoid growth.
The New York Times reported on 27 September 1976 that the French military aircraft that brought Ramesses' remains from the Cairo Museum was greeted by the Garde Republicaine, France's equivalent of a U.S. Marine honor guard.
“The mummy was greeted by the Secretary of State for Universities, Alice Saunter‐Seite, and an army detachment.
Ramses II, who ruled Egypt for 67 years, received special treatment at Le Bourget Airport.”
It was then taken to the Paris Ethnological Museum for inspection by Professor Pierre-Fernand Ceccaldi, the chief forensic scientist at the Criminal Identification Laboratory of Paris.
During the examination, Cecaldi noted:
“Hair, astonishingly preserved, showed some complementary data, especially about pigmentation.
Ramses II was a ginger-haired ‘cymnotriche leucoderma'” (meaning he was a fair-skinned person with wavy ginger hair).
He is 5 ft '7 inches tall. They found battle wounds, arthritis and tooth abscess.
In ancient Egypt, people with red hair were associated with deity Set, the slayer of Osiris. The name of Ramesses II’s father, Seti I, means “follower of Seth.”
The examination also revealed evidence of previous wounds, fractures and arthritis, which would have left Ramesses with a hunched back in the later years of his life.
In 2007, it was discovered that small tufts of the Pharaoh’s hair were stolen during the 1976 preservation work (published by the BBC).
A Frenchman named Jean-Michel Diebolt said he had inherited the hair from his late father, a researcher from the team who analysed the mummy.
Deibolt had tried to sell the hair through an online auction for 2000 euros (£1360) but was quickly apprehended by French authorities.
