1913 Adolph de Meyer, La Marchesa Luisa Casati (aka La Casati) photographed with her head resting on her arms, with pearls draped over her arms.
"Finally, Luisa was photographed. Baron Adolph de Meyer was internationally renowned. The photo he took of Luisa in 1912 in Venice went around the world. A necklace of pearls wrapped around her wrists, her chin resting on her arms crossed, the gaze of the marquise is riveted to the lens. Her pupils, which she now dilated every day with drops of belladonna in defiance of the danger of ending up blind, hypnotize us. It is this same look that seems to be captured on the different paintings, the one she wanted to show, not that of a lioness or a tigress but of a mysterious and implacable woman. Because Luisa wanted to control her image. Deep down, she took herself very seriously. » (x)
