What exactly is it you hate about Nico Rosberg? I’m not trying to start anything, I’m just curious because I’ve always thought he seems nice
Long answer short, I do not like him because he is not a very honest guy. There's lots of other qualities I don't like but the main one is his lack of honesty.
Long essay below
1. I don't find him handsome. The fact that everyone is expected to find him handsome and sexy really grates on me.
2. He does these interviews with people like Toto and Claire Williams. Basically bigwigs of F1. If you listen to the interviews you will find that he is constantly interrupting his interviewee and talking over them. I find this very annoying because I end up listening to Nico Rosberg tell the same stories again and again rather than Toto or Claire or whoever his guest is. Also it's rude.
3. He is dishonest. Once he said he had not driven around Hockenheim before, a few years ago. But there's a video of him driving it in 2012. In 2021 he said that it was unusual for drivers to swap chassis, because Lewis and Valtteri did, and implied something strange was happening. Actually, in 2018 Mercedes tweeted about how they changed chassis for Nico and Lewis (back in Nico's Mercedes year). What Nico said is a lie. It's not that Lewis has one and Valtteri another chassis. There is a pool of chassis and they rotate them.
4. Lewis is often presented in the media as an ultra-talented but not terrifically cerebral or hardworking guy. Lewis hates this. Furthermore it's not even true. Valtteri said that Lewis is indeed very hardworking. Nico on the other hand keeps talking about his championship in 2016 and how hard he worked, how analytical he was, trying to beat the much more talented black guy. Anyway, it's a racist narrative. I think it's very unbecoming of a childhood friend to do this. Even Lewis' colleagues (Valtteri, Sebastian) don't traffic in these falsehoods.
5. I don't like his eco-entrepreneur thing. Firstly, I believe there's no such thing, it is not possible for capitalism to go hand in hand with alleviating climate change. Nico did an interview a few months ago in which he discussed his approach and viewpoint. He said, people will not stop consuming and flying etc. Therefore the way to combat climate change is through technology and have hydrogen planes. There's a lot that is wrong with this.
Namely, many people already do not fly (even in rich countries like the UK). Nico is speaking for the rich, who can afford to fly (or even fly private as he does) and use yachts. The injustice of this is very hard for me to bear, and it's harder to listen to it come out of his ugly mouth.
I also hate Extreme E. If you like it, then you do and I'm not here to argue about it. But I think it's a greenwash. Electric cars aren't going to save the world. Even if you replaced every car on earth with an electric vehicle you still have to contend with emissions from container shipping etc. It's fine to develop electric cars, but I just don't see the sense in Nico owning an Extreme E team and claiming that it is out of concern for the environment, while he flies private, dodges taxes and goes yachting.
Now, most F1 drivers fly private (and even if they do not, they're still flying somehow), use yachts and dodge tax. I'm actually not ok with it. I just compartmentalise because I want to have some entertainment. But I don't think of any of them as being a particularly good person. Nico's position that he's an eco anything really bugs me because of it.
6. I know a lot of people like Nico because they think he's really smart for getting into Imperial for aerospace and speaking 5 related languages. I don't really care about that kind of thing so there's even less reason for me to like him.
7. The truth is, compared to many people in the world, he is really not that bad, as irritating as I find his quest to become some sort of super businessman who is worth more than a billion. Whatever I feel for him is nothing compared to what I feel towards certain other people (cough Colin Powell) but that's a story for another day.
8. I hate his accent and his voice.
