Till the End of the Moon - Episode 27

Last episode was pretty dramatic, with Susu almost finishing her mission, but then being stopped in the middle of it. And almost killed by her own sister while in jail. So who knows what’s going to happen now, because it’s such a mess.

Tantai Jin is upset that Ye Xiwu almost died. Then he receives the visit of Master Pang. He asks him a bottle of his blood in exchange he will give him some bracelets that one worn by two people ties them that none of them can die while the other one is alive. Tantai Jin decides to accept his offer, even without knowing why he wants his blood. Sounds like he’s up to something bad because he says Xiao Lin would have disapproved.

Obviously, Tantai Jin uses the bracelets on him and Ye Xiwu. She’s now getting all better thanks to that. No one must know about the bangles, not even Ye Xiwu. Ye Bingchang claimed that she tried to killed Ye Xiwu because she killed her husband. LOL. It’s still crazy that everyone always believes whatever she says, while we know she’s terribly wicked.

Susu dreams of Jize. He tells her not to feel guilty about Tantai Jin, their fate in this life has long been written like this, no matter what happened, they would have come to this. He shows her a vision of the dream to help complete her mission. She needs to trade out the evil bone like Mingye was willing to take Sang Jiu’s demon essence. She uses the jade, knowing she’s losing her eyesight, trying to cultivate in speedy mode.

I totally forgot about Tantai Jin’s brother. His army of puppet is ready. So there are reports about it. Tantai Jin tells Pianran to investigate who’s behind this. When he learns that it’s his brother, he decides to lead the war himself. Tantai Minglang has some tricks up his sleeves. Tantai Jin is in pain because of the nails so he tries to rush the battle to an end.

Meanwhile Susu is weaker and weaker because of the jade. She’s still trying to cultivate on high speed so she would face a lightning trial.

Pianran tries to stop Tantai Minglang from coming in and ends up fighting with his with lady witch. He manages to push through, but Ye Qingyu to the rescue. Which is a bad and a good thing. They stop them a little more. But. Qingyu and Pianran on the same battlefield, they distract each other from their fights because they worry for each other. Pianran defeats the witch. Tantai Minglang is about to kill her with a weapon for demons, because he’s enraged he lost the girl. Ye Qingyu notices so and takes the bullet (not a bullet, but you understand) for her. So she decides to give away her life to save Qingyu because she can’t stand outliving him.

And that’s about it. This episode was so confusing, I’m not sure I actually know what really happened... Perhaps because I forgot about the brother. I don’t know. It kind of seems out of the blue, since they didn’t mention him for a while. Or maybe because there’s two weeks I wasn’t watching? Who knows. So I’m not going to add much more to this review. In short, it’s war.

Dance of the Phoenix: A Character Guide*

*by a very biased and unreliable narrator

Part Two: The Adults**

**and a magical bird

Holy Queen Gao Sheng

The mastermind behind all the evil plots going on. Hates cultivators, despite being an allegedly powerful one herself, and uses the cultivators to destroy each other. Jun Linyuan’s step-mother. Gao Wei’s aunt. Zuo Qingluan’s boss and mentor. Has a gorgeous wardrobe. Became evil after Mu Jiuzhou rejected her love in favour of becoming immortal. Has been slowly poisoning her husband for years to take over his throne. May have a thing going on with Lord Demon. Also called Ziyan by her nephew and Lord Demon, so I’m assuming that’s her birth name and Sheng is her courtesy name.

Lord Demon

Lord of the Darknight Court. Yu Mingye’s father. Definitely not in the running for the Dad of the Year award. Values power above all else, including his son. In cahoots with Queen Sheng. Helps convert Zuo Qingluan to the Dark Side. He’s strict and both physically and mentally abusive toward Yu Mingye, using the kid as little more than a slave. Disowns and abandons Mingye after he’s seriously injured, branding him “Useless”. Apparently does love Yu Mingye in his own weird way as he’s unable to kill him at a critical moment. No actual name given but I’m guessing “Lord Demon” is the title of the master of the Darknight Court because no parents would actually name their kid “Lord Demon”. I’m going to go out on a limb here and guess his surname is “Yu”. Killed some puppies, that’s how evil he is. I’ll admit he’s very attractive, and the evilness ups that hotness by at least 20%.

Mu Jiuzhou

The only cultivator to achieve immortality but was interrupted during his ascension, causing him to fall into a coma inside the Dragon Phoenix Spirit Ring. Or something. Hero and first ruler of the Qianyuan Continent. Feng Wu’s Master. Spends most of his time asleep or appearing in Feng Wu’s subconscious to guide her. The only person to scare Lord Demon. Thankfully no relation to Mu Yao.

Colour Phoenix/Firecloud Giant Hawk

Was a badass Firecloud Giant Hawk that protected the Celestial Fruit in the Frozen Forest. Upon Feng Wu retrieving the Fruit, he goes to live inside the Dragon Phoenix Spirit Ring with Mu Jiuzhou, in the form of a little blue sparrow with a squeaky voice. Claims to be a phoenix. Acts as Feng Wu’s spirit guide and delivers her information and help at critical moments. Annoying to the point of endearment.

Holy Sovereign

King of the Qianyuan Continent. Well-meaning but kind of useless. Jun Linyuan’s dad. Does better at fatherhood than Lord Demon, but still not in the running for the Dad of the Year award either. When poisoning failed to kill him, he was simply overthrown by Queen Sheng and Lord Demon, and subsequently imprisoned. Seems to have been released so is king once more? No name given.

Gao Wei

Queen Sheng’s nephew and her righthand man when it comes to evil schemes. Head of the palace guards. Surprisingly loyal to his aunt. Was taken hostage but nobody cared. Total scumbag. Killed by a magical fan.

Wu Youdao

Bears the moniker of Ageless Child despite being both old and an adult. Very powerful master cultivator. Master Fang’s rival in chess. Has been holding a grudge against Dean Ning for decades and eventually takes a job as Junwu Academy’s librarian so that he can murder Ning and destroy the Academy. Realised Feng Wu’s actual identity and helps her discover who she is. Would’ve actually been a great mentor for her had he not hulked-out and died in a pointless bid for revenge.

Madam Feng

Feng Wu’s mother. Spends most episodes looking worried. Knows Feng Wu #2 isn’t really Feng Wu but doesn’t say anything, and continues to be a loving mother towards Feng Wu #2 regardless. Plunged her hands into fire to rescue her daughter’s necklace, knowing how precious it is to her. Take notes, Lord Demon, that’s how parenting is done.

Qiu Ling*

The Feng family’s maid and Feng Wu’s close friend. Is often an accomplice in Feng Wu’s trickery. Very loyal to Feng Wu. Teaches Feng Xun how to cook.

*I know Qiu Ling is around Feng Wu’s age but she wouldn’t fit on the other list.

Old Man Ba

Medicinal cultivator and renowned doctor. Teaches medicine and healing to Feng Wu. Might be an alcoholic. Is very much like a grandfather to Feng Wu. Has some of the best reaction shots in the show. Wonderfully sarcastic. Helps Feng Wu regain her cultivation base by using the Celestial Fruit to create the Nine Transformation Spirit Restoration Pill. Lives for Feng Wu’s cooking.

Dance of the Phœnix - Episode 25

I’m still not over with how much I hated last episode. The back story with the wolf lady and her babies made me very emotional and the little ones being hurt and no one taking care of them, just leaving like that is just... Seriously, how could the mom not go bersek after she lost her loved one too? Yu Mingye’s father is really a villain, but the Empress even more so because I’m pretty sure she the one orchestrating all of that disgusting stage, since she’s such in a hurry to throw out her husband.

So the Emperor tries to resist his villainess of a wife, but he has to soon realize that she’s working with the Dark Lord. He gets defeated quite easily, threatens that the crown prince won’t let her get away and she says that his little son won’t have rope line to hold onto and is in a very difficult position if he wants to survive. Something like that. She sits on the throne, very satisfied. I must say, I really hate her. But I love her outfits and hairstyles. It just kind of saddens me that they went the black route with her when everything else in her clan is white. I would have tried to go even whiter, even though she’s the bad guy, to show how people actually trust and respect her as their leader. But I guess it’s easier to have the meanie wear black.

Feng Wu and the others coming puts an end to the fight between Jun Linyuan and Yu Mingye, kind of. The Dark Night Court people are going to blow up the entrance to the mountain, even if Yu Mingye is still there because those are the orders of their leader. The wolf lady catches up to them. Jun Linyuan wants to run away. They’re about to explode everything and the demon inside. Feng Wu runs into the barrier just before it closes up, because she thinks the wolf lady doesn’t deserve this. Jun Linyuan doesn’t have the time to follow her and is blocked outside. Yu Mingye and Jun Linyuan try to break the barrier to rescue Feng Wu, but the wolf lady has a flashback from when Mu Jiuzhou gave her her freedom and she decides not to kill Feng Wu and become a demon again.

As she flees, Zuo Qingluan comes with guards and arrests Jun Linyuan, Xuan Yi and Feng Xun on the pretense that they poisoned the Emperor and plotted against him. For the first time, Mu Yao seems to try to contradict Qingluan for the right reasons, but she’s quite the weak character, so she doesn’t press on and Jun Linyuan doesn’t let his friends fight back the arrest. They accused them to team up with a demon and they say that the Dark Night Court stopped them. Lol. What a plan. I don’t like the Empress, but she plays smart. Qingluan takes Feng Wu’s ring away, saying that it’s a proof that Feng Wu is conspiring with demons. Qingluan hits Mu Yao. I think she might have lost her biggest supporter.

Qingluan and the guards chase after the wolf lady. I think she dies reliving memories of her and her past lover. Or maybe she faints. But I wish she died. She deserves peace now. Oh well. Short lived hopes. They just captured her and kept her for Qingluan to practice her skills. She tells the lady that they are the ones who killed her children, not Feng Wu. Seriously. Those were babies. They never did anything wrong. Poor wolf lady... I’m very upset. I can’t stand people hurting little ones.

Zhao Ge is back to normal. She doesn’t trust Qingluan anymore because she lost that right when she sent her on purpose to the mountain. She tries to convince Qingluan to stop before it’s too late and says that she would rather be with the others because they are innocent. Qingluan almost slaps her and sends her to detention with the others. Yeah, she really went too far down the wrong path, she can’t get any redemption anymore in my opinion.

Feng Wu is taken away to be killed by lightning. Yu Mingye has to watch.

The Empress summons Jun Linyuan for a meal. She reveals that she’s actually the one who stopped Mu Jiuzhou from ascending since he rejected her. She wants Jun Linyuan to work alongside with her. He refuses and threatens her with his blade. He runs away and she orders that he gets chased down for linking arms with demons.

The wolf lady escaped by slicing off one of her hands.

Yu Mingye asks his father to spare Feng Wu’s life because she’s the one he likes. However, it is too late. Meanwhile Huang Li saves Zhao Ge, Feng Xun and Xuan Yi from jail so they can go save Feng Wu. Yu Mingye’s father tries to stop him because it’s too late, but Yu Mingye doesn’t mind becoming ennemies anymore, no matter what he’s going to save his lady.

What a frustrating episode. I’m still upset about the babies. I think I won’t get over it before the end of this drama and might mention it all the time. Once again, I need to say how much I love Yu Mingye’s character. His struggles are so real to me, sitting between the person is truly is and the one his father and people expect him to be being so different. I’m glad he’s finally making a decision for himself and not someone else.
