"The Man Who Came To Dinner" Good evening, folks. I got to take a needed respite this evening with my family... and Monty Wooley. :D Historically speaking, this movie is less than a year old, having been released on New Year's Day, 1942, not yet a month after Pearl Harbor. Eighty Years later, it remains a timeless and priceless classic of screwball comedy. Filled with undertones of an America gearing up for war, it centers on the prickly, capricious, and vitriolic Sheridan Whiteside (Wooley, in his fim debut), a world-renowned author and public speaker on a publicity tour during the Christmas season of. Traveling with him, and playing the perfect foil, is none other than Bette Davis. In Ohio, he slips and falls on the front steps of his sponsors' home; wheelchair bound with a broken hip, he forces them to allow him to stay. With the threat of a hefty lawsuit hanging over their heads, the household has no choice but to fold to his every whim as he upends everyone's lives, with side-splitting hilarity.
