It’s my Birthday in a few days and a great gift you could give would be supporting Indigenous Land Defenders! • #1492landbacklane  Haudenosaunee Land Defenders have been peacefully reclaiming a construction site where a housing project is being developed on their land. OPP has used brute force and intimidation, and made multiple arrests. For support and to help with legal fees, e-transfer [email protected] • #alleyesonmikmaki Mi’kmaq peoples have been exerting their treaty right to fishing and lobstering in their ancestral waters of Nova Scotia, and have been met with extreme violence from non-Indigenous fisherman, all while the RCMP has stood by and encouraged the violence. E-transfers for new equipment that was destroyed can be sent to [email protected]. • #moosemoratorium The moose population is rapidly declining on Anishinabe land, and the Algonquin peoples have called for a moose sport hunting moratorium. Blockades have been set up to stop trophy hunters, but police and hunters have been harassing protesters and threatening and committing violence at these checkpoints.

Indigenous Land Defenders in Ontario are under attack

"Presently, a group of Land Defenders in an attempt to protect their rightful homeland from further development have ignored an injunction from a company that wants to build a series of houses and "McMansions" on land that has been, since time immemorial First Nations land, and most recently, the land of the Six Nations community.

First with Treaties, and then again more recently with empty promises for "reconciliation" by modern governments, the people for whom this land is rightfully belongs are refusing to leave, and allow for the construction of another Caledonia sub division. "

Do you know where exactly the Mi'kmaq territory in Eastern Canada is? I want to call the local politicians and shame them.

legend anon but!! so technically all of nova scotia is mi’kma’ki!! and so are parts of new brunswick and newfoundland and labrador. the things that are going on right now are happening in digby, nova scotia, to the sipekne’katik first nations, one of several mi’kma’ki districts.

additionally tho, im not mi’kmaq so if youre looking for ways to help, i suggest following @TheAgentNDN and @Kukukwes on twitter to keep up to date and informed with whats going on. the former has also pinned a doc of ways to help and support the mi’kmaq in digby and an email template and list of phone numbers of politicians who are not taking action on this. you can find the SUPPORT DOC HERE and the EMAIL TEMPLATE HERE.
