#11. I COULD START A WAR — LIARA T'SONI.
the fact that liara gets jokes ..... but tells or explains them in a technical way really just makes it more hilarious.
“it’s a taxi! it has a fare meter!”
“mainly the lower reaches, near the bottom.”
“i meant on the asari body.”
“so did i.”
“too bad i don’t know him. or her.”
“i’m sure the shadowbroker was very busy.”
“obviously they’ve never had to fight a yahg face-to-face.”

i was just talking about it with @tornsavior but liara banters with shepard the most - we all know why, but the fact that the person she also banters with a lot is wrex is incredibly telling, both for wrex & liara. shepard is the person she gets along with the best, but we underestimate that wrex has this soft, diplomatic side & that liara is actually pretty damn chill. their friendship honestly does mean so much to me. it brings out the side of wrex that people forget often or the fact that liara can make friends of all walks of life.

somewhere in the back of my mind it still bothers me that i saw a ‘liara gets preferential treatment in game’ comment and the example was the way the whole entire team comforted her after thessia. and so now every time i play that mission, i just have to gently set this meta on the dash. please remember the importance of that scene outside of liara.
the asari have never actively engaged in war, they are 100% peaceful overall. war has never stepped it’s ugly boot on their homeworld. THIS IS THE FIRST TIME.
the reaper war brought war then decimated a peaceful species in a very short amount of time. while the asari supported shepard, it was hard for a species that very rarely saw war in a thousand years to comprehend that war IS coming. then it came. liara spent years trying to prevent this from happening. she was the only asari - with the exception of a few asari like samara - that understood war WAS coming.
and then the first time liara stepped foot on her homeworld in awhile was to watch it burn. watch her people die. the amount of guilt she feels isn’t to be compared to watching shepard + the humans escape off earth, or garrus + the primarch leave palaven. it’s the same. it’s not about liara.
it’s about the asari being peaceful overall.

i like the balance between shepard, kristen + liara. i was asking @tornsavior her renegade vs. paragon scale just to make sure i was reading everything right, which is probably why this whole entire poly ship is working out SO WELL. kristen’s far more renegade than liara + kristen, but if we’re tbh, it’s actually shepard that’s the most paragon. liara’s being watched by asari high command because they’re slightly worried that she may go off the deep end ... that means they’re kind of afraid of her power. i love that so much. but liara, even angry, is extremely level-headed. her kindness is absolutely never her weakness. but if you’re her enemy, there may be zero mercy. whereas kristen, while she thinks about civilians, probably would crash her way through innocent lives to end cerberus or the reapers. shepard would never. liara, as shadowbroker, may deploy her shadowbroker agents - one of which is kristen - to specifically do dirty work. kristen’s personality resembles jack’s in angery, kristen is just a lot more suave and less open about her anger.

i mean i never really state it anywhere & just mention it here + there, so i’ll add it to her bio soon. i prefer playing me2 + me3 liara. there is a change in personality that makes anything post me1 easier for me to write. it starts right after me1′ s ending & that’s because liara FINDS A TEAM. she is no longer the alone archeologist. she’s part of something & that changes her drastically. it actually happens quite often that a lot of people want to set a starter or ask in me1 & i just particuarly don’t like it because i have to find the matching voice for the liara that was awkward + anti-social. the arc between that liara & the one that had to leave shepard on the normandy is also incredibly important to me. there’s also this fandom wide misconception that... she’s like naive. she’s not. i mostly just feel like all you see is the naive liara if you set it me1. i would just prefer you understand that while liara is kind, she can also be ruthless. she is NOT naive.

one more liara hyperfixation thing:
you can catch her having a lot of random conversations with the crew in her quarters. it’s just another thing that really shows her huge character arc. she had one of the quietest, furthest spots on the first normandy -- but now people like wrex + joker are openly reaching out to hit her up on comms for a conversation, she’s just so easily engrossed in the conversation while working too. also the fact that she’s stepped right into understanding jokes enough that she understands human lingo + sayings. playing along with joker’s playful banter about her ‘tentacles,’ + wrex’s jokes.
and the one time edi said something during the coup and liara just quietly says ‘the humans have a saying edi: ‘it’s too soon.’ like she still has a fascination with learning about protheans.... but some of her own hyperfixation turned over to just understanding humans & that’s probably in part because of her huge friendship with shepard.

@tornsavior : 15. for one muse to fall asleep in the hospital bed with the other / For Liara & Kristen post war <3
— nonverbal starters !! / definitely accepting .
𝚃𝙷𝙴𝚁𝙴'𝚂 𝚂𝙾 𝙼𝚄𝙲𝙷 𝙶𝙾𝙸𝙽𝙶 𝙾𝙽 𝙰𝙻𝙻 𝙾𝙵 𝙰 𝚂𝚄𝙳𝙳𝙴𝙽 𝙸𝙽 𝙺𝚁𝙸𝚂𝚃𝙴𝙽'𝚂 𝙱𝚁𝙰𝙸𝙽 𝚃𝙷𝙰𝚃 𝚂𝙷𝙴 𝙷𝙰𝚂 𝙽𝙾 𝚁𝙾𝙾𝙼 𝙵𝙾𝚁 𝙷𝙴𝚁𝚂𝙴𝙻𝙵. The fight between her & Liara when Liara caught on that she wasn’t acting herself. It’s no mystery that Liara was going light, which gave Kristen the upper hand in a battle of biotics. To say that Kristen feels guilty is an understatement. All of that, on top of the fact that Kristen’s emotions were being controlled - which feels gross. It feels invasive. It’s a man prompting you to hate the blue alien you wanted to LOVE since the first moment you ever laid eyes on Liara. Kristen’s mind is screaming.
Green eyes suddenly open - which was a mistake, even the dim light of the hospital room blinded her. An instant headache. What she wasn’t expecting was the back of the same blue alien’s head. Right there. Just sleeping lightly in front of Kristen. As if Liara would even be MAD let alone walk away from Kristen for being manipulated. Kristen’s traumatized, broken mind just couldn’t fathom that. Her whole entire body is sore. An explosion like that really should have killed her. She can still feel where it felt like all the rubble had been crushing her. Then again, she had her own emotions back right in the end. He died first. She put up a biotic barrier.
Simple as that, really. Also, just in case:
“ Shepard, ” Kristen breathes out, voice incredibly hoarse & cracked. She can’t really lift her head to peer over Liara, but she sees the top of blonde hair laying on the bed. Liara twitches herself. “ The bastard’s dead. I killed him, right? ”

@awkend : Places a 💛 here for liara
— different types of relationships / definitely accepting .
THE UNIVERSE CAN BE SOFT. IT CAN BE QUIET. THE REAPER INVASION HAS MADE IT LOUD. made it unbearable, somewhere in the back of liara’s mind, she consistently remembers digging up prothean’s graveyards + ruins, the loud machinery only a lullaby in the world of archeology. it is as much a comfort in a hungry, apocalyptic, raging world as standing on the one spot on the citadel & remembering her mother’s kind words + caring touch.
“ i believe you, ” liara just says simply, her gun falling to her side. the shadowbroker’s resources are enormous, they provide a vast amount of truth + proof when it’s needed. like the knowledge of who her father is. or the hard to deny fact that someone was helping children on omega, information that’s only known to few. it is without doubt that the altruist themselves would be of that few.

When is Liara’s birthday? And how does she celebrate it?
i just borrowed ali’s ( her voice actor ) birthday: december 29th. i also feel like asari + probably krogan don’t celebrate birthdays really. they both can live to a thousand years or so. the celebration of each year of life isn’t as widely important as it would be in human culture. liara’s only 109.
