Zimbabwe’s “RTGS Dollar” Can Be Used to Purchase New Gold Coins; Not So for 2008 Zim Inflation Currency

Zimbabwe's Central Bank recently introduced a new set of gold coins in a bid to boost the country's economy. The coins, which come in denominations of 2, 5, 10, and 20 Zimbabwean dollars, are said to be made from locally sourced gold.

The introduction of the new coins has been met with mixed reactions, with some Zimbabweans expressing excitement at the prospect of having a new form of currency, while others have raised concerns about the practicality of using gold coins in everyday transactions.

Which Zim Currencies Can Be Used to Purchase the Coins?

One of the main questions that has been raised is whether RTGS (Real Time Gross Settlement) dollars can be used to purchase the gold coins. RTGS dollars are Zimbabwe's official currency and are used for electronic transactions, but they are not widely accepted by all merchants.

According to the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe, the new gold coins can be purchased using any form of legal tender, including RTGS dollars. This means that Zimbabweans who have RTGS dollars can use them to buy the gold coins.

What about Zimbabwe’s 2008 Hyperinflation Currency?

Unfortunately for collectors around the world who have made the 2008 $100 Trillion Zimbabwe banknote one of the most popular numismaic collectibles of all-time, they won’t be able to help land the new gold Zimbabwe coins.

The reason is rather simple. 2008 Zimbabwean money cannot be used to buy anything, much less cold coins. In 2008-2009, Zimbabwe experienced hyperinflation, and as a result, the currency became practically worthless. In response, the Zimbabwean government abandoned the Zimbabwean dollar and adopted a multi-currency system. The primary currencies used in Zimbabwe are now the US dollar, the South African rand, and other foreign currencies. At the height of the hyperinflation, Zimbabwe released a $100 trillion dollar bill, which at its height was worth something like $1.36 USD.

Gold coins, like any other goods or services, typically require a recognized currency or a form of payment that is widely accepted. Since the 2008 Zimbabwean money is no longer in use and has no value, it cannot be used to purchase gold coins or any other items. If you're interested in buying gold coins, you would need to use a recognized currency or another form of payment accepted by the seller.

However, while officiallt the RTGS dollar can be used to purchase the coins, some experts have warned that using RTGS dollars to purchase gold coins may not be the most practical option. This is because the value of gold is constantly fluctuating, and it may be difficult for merchants to accurately determine the value of the coins in RTGS dollars.

Counterfeit 100 Trillion Zimbabwe Currency Banknotes Infect eBay’s Zim Offerings

Zimbabwe banknotes (aka: “Zim Bonds”) being sold out of China have been identified as fake. How prevalent is the problem?

“The whole (eBay) marketplace is toxic right now as a result...“ ~ eBay Seller

Sometime in May I made a purchase of an eBay listing for ten $100 Trillion Zimbabwe banknotes from a new seller I was not familiar with who was based out of China. I do business with a couple of Chinese sellers who are great to do business with, whose products are always authentic, relatively inexpensive and delivered to me quickly. This seller is not one of them. The listing was priced well below market rates, and part of me suspected they might be fake. Still, the price was too good to not give it a shot, figuring that if in fact they were fake I could always return them.

Until I saw a counterfeit Zimbabwe $100 trillion dollar banknote from the 2008 hyperinflation currency, I didn’t believe that they even existed. After all, why would anyone who has made the investment into state-of-the-art counterfeiting equipment and the supplies needed to operate it waste their time, money and focus forging a currency that has the dubious distinction of being history’s most worthless currency? They wouldn’t, right?

Well, I figured they’d be out making dollars or Euros or Yen or something similar until I opened up a shipment from an eBay seller whose price was so low I had to take a flier on his products.

Well, my first assessment of these notes from China was correct. The notes did in fact turn out to be fake. However, they were such good fakes that I would be shocked if most buyers would have been able to determine that they were in fact counterfeit. The notes even had the long-rumored color-changing ink on the left-side of the obverse side of the note (more on this in a bit). However, the notes lacked any of the security fibers that glow under ultraviolet lighting, which is the one security feature present in every authentic $100 trillion Zim bond note I’ve inspected. Color-changing ink is not, however so many high-profile sellers have documented that this is a security feature present (it is not -- at least not in enough of the legitimate, authentic notes to be used to exclude all notes absent it) that buyers generally tend to go in with the false impression that notes absent that ink are fake. The truth is that in all of my research, I’ve seen $10, $50 and $100 trillion Zimbabwe banknotes that were authentic and had serial numbers printed with an ink that changed from red to bright orange under UV lighting. However these make up a very small percentage of the notes in these denominations, as most authentic notes do not have this feature.

The absence of the security fibers was enough to raise red flags about my purchase from a new-to-eBay Chinese vendor. Other noticeable discrepancies including the coloring being slightly off make me even more suspicious. Finally, I went and brought them to a professional who conformed what by then I already knew --- that the ten 100T notes I bought were fake. When I went to try to return them I found that the seller’s eBay account was no longer active, but by looking at the old listing, I was able to determine that he had sold at least nine lots of ten notes to other buyers besides myself, a few of whom left positive feedback.

The seller who reported these did so at his own expense, and he took a considerable loss to remove the fake ones from the marketplace. How many others would be willing to eat a loss when they know they can get away with selling them and making them someone else’s problem. And that’s just the ones who figure out that they’re fake. Most won’t even get that far, especially collectors who don’t sell the stuff for a living.” ~ eBay Seller on the Plague of Counterfeit 100 Trillion Zim notes on the eBay platform

I personally have observed these same notes as those I had purchased, sold by the same seller, listed for resale by other US-based collectors who had decided to try to take advantage of the low rate to flip some of their steal of a deal (at least in their minds... I doubt most collectors even realize that they’re counterfeit), many selling enough to pay for those they keep. But the problem that causes is now they’re in circulation on eBay and are being traded on eBay among secondary sellers who bought from the same Chinese vendor I purchased from, only they haven’t sold hundreds if not thousands of authentic 100 Trillion notes and weren’t able to establish that they were counterfeit like I was able to do.

So once I knew the notes were fake and knew I couldn’t return them for a refund, I decided to absorb the loss and not resell them. I will be making a couple of videos in which I’ll attempt to communicate to buyers what to look for and how to know if the note you’ve purchased is real or fake, but other than that I have no intention to use or sell the notes, and will almost certainly destroy them on video, a copy of which will be posted here to prove the notes were all destroyed.

In the meantime, buyers should carefully vet their sellers if buying 2008 Zimbabwe banknotes, especially if buying from eBay. It may be best to just avoid eBay for a few weeks and let the market cleanse itself of the forgeries.

2. Venue. Venue is appropriate in this court because both of the plaintiff and defendant reside in this district, and a substantial amount of the acts and omissions giving rise to this lawsuit occurred in this district.

3. Intradistrict Assignment. This lawsuit should be assigned to the County of Saint Clara because a substantial part of the events or omissions which give the rise to this lawsuit occurred in Saint Clara County.

4. The Plaintiff, Mai-Trang Thi Nguyen, was violated with her freedom of movement and her freedom of not being intimidated and harassed when a Saint Clara police officer failed to stop my intimidator-harasser to continue intimidating me when my intimidator-harasser verbally instructed me not get out of my car SO I CAN STAND UP TO STRETCH AND BREATHE . My intimidator-harasser had the nerve to say (directing his eyes at me while talking to the police officer),” stay in the car please.” Last I checked, it is always AND ONLY the law via the police officer who has the legal rights to verbally instruct a citizen to stay in the car, don’t get up, stop, freeze, etc.—NOT A CITIZEN, AND ESPECIALLY NOT MY INTIMIDATOR-HARASSER. THE POLICE WAS SUMMONED BY MOI TO BE IN CHARGE OF POLICING THIS 9-11-INTIMDATING-HARASSING SCENE. That man who told me to stay put in my car in front of the police officer was the man whom I accused of harassing and intimidating me as a woman. My intimidator-harasser was able block my freedom of movement in front of this police officer; thus, in front of him, this officer allowed a man to continue harassing , intimidating, and CONTROL ME AS A HUMAN BEING AND AS a woman. In front of his eyes, this officer (who happened to be white) allowed a white person to continue harassing, intimidating, and controlling an ethnic person. EXHIBIT A in video evidence will prove my above claims .

5. The Defendant (Saint Clara Police Department via that police officer)

abetted in the violations of California Code, Penal Code 653.2 (harass and intimidating law) and civil-rights laws via restricting the freedom of movement by failing to stop my intimidator-harasser from intimidating me by telling me to stay put in my car and to legally take over the policing work to basically tell me to stop, don’t move, don’t stand up, and sit down in my car.

6. Arguments. When a man (who is accused of harassing and intimidating a woman in

a 9-11 call which the call was initiated by the woman) still dared to intimidate a woman in front of the cop and in front of the woman’s camera by verbally instructing the woman to stay in her place, it showed that his action and character at the time were very illegally aggressive. When a 911-summon police officer witnessed what I just described and allowed that illegal activity to just fly over his young superman shoulders as he approached us fast but steadily , then I can say there might be something wrong in the human characteristics of that young-superman-like police officer. Perhaps the police officer was not careful in paying attention in his policing job and made an illegal decision to allow that intimidation to happen in front of him. Possibly the young police officer was like me became “TOO” intimidated by that older man (intimidator-harasser) by allowing the older man to dominating him by stepping on his police paws and yanked away his police badge to take over the policing job of instructing me to stay put, don’t move, stop, etc. Perhaps the officer was too narrow in this white thinking to think, “Coronavirus Asian complained my white people. Me white no like. Must protect my whities even if it will cost me my hard-earned police degree and job. Me protect this white man. Me no protect this Asian woman. White power. Only listen to white people. Only listen to this white man.”

If your young male police officer could allow my intimidator-harasser to intimidate him to the point of allowing my intimidator-harasser take over going doing his cop work, can you imagine how much more aggressive my intimidator-harasser was when he was alone with a woman especially ethnic woman like me--500 times more aggressive.

EXHIBIT B showed my intimidator-harasser’s proximity to my car while I was semi laying down resting and waiting for the car to be charged. Being even closer, he was screaming saliva during coronavirus pandemic into my car with his unmasked mouth nearly touching the glass through the crack of my back window (Gross. Such an unpleasant site as a human being and as a man and I don’t care how attractive you white people think you are). He videotaped me like a pervert when I was working on locking my bra straps before getting out of the car to re-plug my car after he yanked out my charging chord and placed it in another charging station. I even educated him that it might fall into the laws of perversion when a man refused to stop videotaping a woman when the woman asked to him temporary stop videotaping her when she was about to do private female thing inside her car like locking up the straps of her bras, and that he can go to jail for it. Finally, he only backed up a bit when I politely asked for 6-feet social distance and brought up the word police. All this madness even after I already apologized to him and offered to pay for the stolen electricity from his wife’s car according to his interpretation of the law. He wanted me to leave the premise forever so that was why he was still hovering like animal when he SCREAMED OUT, “I WANT YOU TO NEVER RETURN TO THIS PLACE AGAIN.” I WOULD LOVE TO DO THAT BECAUSE THE THOUGHT OF SEEING HIM AGAIN AT THAT CHARGING STATION IS LIKE LIVING IN HELL AND I NO LIKE HELL. I even told him I apologized to his wife and offered to pay, but she refused to listen, but a few minutes later, came the intimidator-harasser, her loving husband, the protector of his wife to defend her honors (how romantic).

California Code, Penal Code 653.2 states harassment as “a knowing and willful

course of conduct directed at a specific person that a reasonable person would consider as

seriously alarming, seriously annoying, seriously tormenting, or seriously terrorizing the

person and that serves no legitimate purpose.” Civil-rights law protects our basic rights and one of those rights is freedom of movement for us to stand up to stretch to breathe, work, get water, get food, go to bathroom, etc. On that day, I became a victim under those two laws.

7. Conclusion. I’ll drop the lawsuit because I am a nice person even if I know you

cops rather spend your time getting fat eating donuts and not exercise than to supply me a formal police complaint form that I can fill out and document what happened, and supply me the name and address of the intimidator-harasser. Cops in poor countries are slender looking which make so much hotter and I pray for cops in America to stop eating carbs to monitor their girlish waist-eats nuts for snacks and mountains of boiled vegies with lots of dressing to replace potato salad and mashed potatos. I had

I haven’t slept since the incident yesterday with me working as my lawyer, police officer, psychiatrist, etc. Typing out this lawsuit made me release my mental illness of being a victim of intimidation and harassment. I am back being calm so I just recently decided not to file a lawsuit anymore. My arthritis is too painful for me to type out my police complaint that I promise I would send to the sergeant and the lieutenant. A copy of this complaint is enough. My eyes are in pain I will cease double-checking my grammars from here.

I would charge $5,000 for my lawyer work with lots of overtime, $4,000 for

my police work with lots of over time, $10,000 to calm down the stress by dealing with psychological advices to answer this urgent matter in my head that won’t sleep, $10,000,000 for mental illness for planning to move back to Vietnam because you white people and you Americans of all ethnicities and sexuality are getting way too mean to me (I don’t know if you people are animals or humans. If you people are animals then perhaps we need to develop a new method to tame you animals) , $500,000 for more arthritis, more hair loss, more exhausted eyes, and more backpain, $1,000,000 permanent scars via wrinkles created stress, and 100trillion dollars in lost of future business if I decide to leave America today. However, I am willing to drop lawsuit, if you hunt down my harasser-intimidator, find out his name and address so you can help me send his wife a check when I am still broke and

semi-homeless to clear out my bad karma and send him a copy of a police report with evidence attached. Since he walked away calling me thief and if the law confirms that I am a thief, then I also want him to know that he is also a thief when he yanked the charging cord out of my car and put it back to the other charging station (station 1). I will inform him that will not sue him even though I have evidence of him harassing and intimidating me because I am actually a very nice to people especially to those work hard even though they are poor to save the environment starting with using less gas. I wish him well in his life and I pray our paths in the universe are happiest away from each other. As for all officers involved, I want to get confirmation that you will make copies of my future police report them since they all walked away thinking I am a thief.
