Crunch, crunch, crunch

You had no idea that French pastry would have such a flaky outside. Your fork pressed down to break off a piece, and the dollop of cream on top poured down deliciously in the open space that was left.

"How is it?" Felix sputtered, his mouth already full of an almond croissant he had ordered earlier.

You smiled fully to give your approval of the delicate Persian pastry. You glanced around at the outdoor cafe. Many patrons enjoying their espresso and talking in their native tongue. You focus to try to make out what they are saying, only a few words translate on your mind.

"I love.... shopping... tomorrow....with my mother I will...." Was all you could understand.

You turn your attention to Felix, who had centered all of his notice on you. Sunlight seemed to pour out from every inch of him. You basked in the light for a moment, letting your eyes closed as you listened to the je suis revenu dans le film of the music around you.

"Paris suits you," Felix whispered close to your neck, "You look so beautiful."

"Maybe we should just live here, then." You teased, taking another fork-full.of flaky pastry.

"Well, I have been looking at apartments." Felix gave you a sly smile, still enjoying his croissant.

You lean your back towards him and rest your head onto his shoulder. You let your mind swing and swirl with thoughts of old brick apartments and wrap-around balconies. You could almost hear the clink clink clink of your vintage typewriter you bought from a secondhand store down the road. Felix would come home and see you curled up by the open window, listening to the sounds of the city below you. Babies crying, children playing, bicycle bells rings up through the air.

You lifted your chin up to meet your eyes with Felix. You both knew that with his job and your family, you could never just leave for Paris. That life had weighed you both down heavy with responsibility. That leaving to live in a new country was magical, but not practical. This vacation had to end sometime. But for right now, you fantasized feverishly about the life you could have with the man you loved. And for right now, this is everything you ever needed; love, music, and a pastry.

It had been 4 months since Chan had performed his cozy act of tickling Lino to pieces, and since then, the hoodie had been folded up in the cupboard, as it’s owner had been saving it for a good day.

The problem was, however, that the owner of the hoodie had not been having good days, and the hoodie lay rejected in the cupboard, waiting for the day it could be worn again.

The door to the bedroom slammed, and a person leaned against it, clearly defeated.

“Please…make it stop-” Minho sobbed as he sank to the floor.

Comeback season was always hard, but their manager loved to make it worse, jeering at them any chance he got, and his little grudge was especially against their main dancer.

He had commented arrogantly that Lino ruined everything by not being able to wear a crop top, considering the dancer was still insecure about the surgical scar on his stomach.

He had kept throwing insult after insult. First about Minho’s dancing, then about his scar, then his face.

But when he started crudely commenting on how their dancer should have stayed eliminated, he crossed the line.

Minho had had enough, running back to his room and trying not to cry until he got there.

In the background he could hear Chan going off on the manager, Changbin’s heavy breathing as he tried not to lose his temper, Hyunjin and Jisung adding little comments in the middle while Jeongin restrained Seungmin.

Felix, being the sunshine he was, was trying it end it peacefully, all while trying to resist the urge to run after his hyung and make sure he was okay.

The sunshine knew that the second he left, it would all fall apart.

Changbin and Chan would dual-murder the guy with Seungmin, who was bound to escape Jeongin’s grip at some point, and chaos would follow.

Meanwhile, Lee Know pressed his hands against his head, the comments and insults flashing through his brain like a red-hot poker.

He ignored the multiple knocks, especially when he heard Felix’s voice.

Of course, he loved Felix. But he couldn’t let the brownie boy see his hyung in this kind of vulnerability.

Then he heard a softer knock, with the loud but comforting voice, of Chan.

Minho scrambled to his feet, turning the lock with the last of his strength.

The door opened and the oldest of the group walked in, and Lino couldn’t hold back anymore.

He collapsed into Chan’s arms, hugging him with all his might.

Chris stumbled from the suddenness of the moment, but steadied himself as he wordlessly rocked the younger back and forth, shutting the door silently behind him.

Minho tried to hold out on crying, but at that point he really felt numb, as if the tears wouldn’t come out in front of anyone.

Instead, he let out more dry sobs, relaxing when Chan’s fingers stroked his hair, and he leaned into the touch.

“Don’t hide yourself from me…” Were the five words Chan first uttered, cradling the fragile dancer in his arms.

‘Chan is the only one who can see me like this, there is nothing to worry about.’ His brain assured him.

“You wanna change? Watch a movie? We have a break until tomorrow evening to do what we like.” Chan looked down as the younger nodded, wanting to get out of the stiff material of his shirt.

Chris got him a pair of sweatpants and the bunny’s favorite hoodie, which Minho gladly took.

The cloud material had Lino feeling more comfortable than ever, especially with the eldest engulfing him in all the warmth.

He felt so sleepy. A little while more, and he would be overcome with the serenity of warmth.

But Chan interrupted.

“It’s been a while since you wore this hoodie, yeah?” Chan asked, grinning down at Minho.

Meanwhile, the dancer could feel his face heating up.

Chan knew very much what he was doing.

Lino could feel the lee mood creeping up on him, like a monster walking up in the dark.

A big, cuddly, cute monster.

“Shut up.” He grumbled over Chan’s giggling.

Chan tried to duck his head under Min’s hoodie, but the boy immediately jerked and pushed his head away.

“D-Don’t.” Were the only words Lino said, and the eldest couldn’t tell if it was because the younger didn’t want to be tickled, or because he didn’t want him to see his scar.

So Chris did the only thing he could. Ask.

“Are you okay Min? Am I making you uncomfortable?” Chan asked, worry flashing across his features.

“The scar…” Lee Know whimpered, crossing his arms across his stomach.

Odd. Minho had never had a problem with Chan looking at his scar before.

‘It was that manager.’ Was the only thought Chan had, anger bubbling up in his stomach at the thought of the arrogant man.

The kangaroo didn’t say a word, just staring at Min with that same sad expression.

“Don’t look at me like that!” Lino whined, squishing at Chan’s face while he tried to turn it into a smile.

Sleepiness was making him delusional. However, Chan couldn’t help but warm up at the sight of sleepy Minho.

He ducked his hand down and scribbled his hand over Minho’s stomach, feeling the rough area where the dancer’s scar resided.

“ahehaha…nohot nohohow.” Lino swatted at Chan’s hand.

He ducked his head under Minho’s hoodie, and the younger didn’t even notice for a few seconds, sleep lessening his reaction time.

“N-No! What are you DOHOHOHOING NOHO NOHOT AGAIN!” Lee Know absolutely howled with laughter when the older grinned, kissing and blowing raspberries on his stomach and sides.

“yes again” Chris mumbled into the dancer’s stomach, only tickling Minho more.

Chan’s fingers joined in tickling the squirming dancer to pieces, the skin soft and smooth to the touch.

Chan pulled Minho’s hands under his torso, sitting on his thighs and sneaking his fingers to intertwine with the bunny’s under his torso, pushing up slightly to stretch out his stomach.

He peppered kisses to the scar, blowing raspberries and nibbling the soft skin.

“Look at this. So pretty…” He mumbled, looking up and meeting a very sleepy, blushy Minho.

“nohoho! HYUNG PLE-HAHAH!” Lee Know let out, squirming around as Chan’s fingers joined the fray, wiggling at his scar.

“So cutee. So beautiful…”

More blushing.

Chan continued to mumble praises into Minho’s scar, while then, the bunny managed to free his arms.

However, instead of trying to stop the older, he just covered his giggly, flushed face, squirming violently.

Then the raspberries came. Chan playfully bit the scar, eliciting a yelp before more hysterics.

“P-PLEHEHEASE! HYUHUHUHUNG!” Minho screamed through his laughter, unable to get the oldest out of his hoodie.

“Yes, Min?” Chan asked, still mumbling.

“NOHOHOHAAH!” Lino babbled through his hysterics.

The feeling of the older’s lips on his sensitive skin had Lee Know almost ascending.

Soon enough, feeling hot from the sensation of the bunny’s flushed skin, Chan weaved himself out of Minho’s hoodie, gasping for breath from the repeated raspberries.

“ha…hyuhung.” Minho panted, residual giggles still spilling from his lips.

However, the second Chris had caught his breath, he lifted the edge of Minho’s hoodie again, slipping underneath.

“No! NO HYUNG!” Was the only thing Lino could screech before a very loud scream clawed it’s way from his throat.

Chris’s fingers were attacking his bare ribs, playing up and down like a piano while he continued to blow raspberries and nibble against the bunny’s pink tinted skin.

Lee Know immediately curled in on himself, weakly slapping at Chan’s head and screaming with laughter.

It was so unfair. The oldest always knew how to get Minho screaming in seconds.

Tears flowed down his cheeks, contradicting the wide smile stretched across his face.

“HYUHUHUHUNG! PLEHEHEHEASE! IHIHITS ENOUGH! NOHOHO MOOOOOORE!” Minho absolutely lost it, twisting his head side to side.

Chris immediately let up for another break, panting as Lino wiped the tears off of his face.

He waited until Lee Know had started breathing normally, still giggling lightly, before diving in one last time.

Minho was too exhausted to even complain, but when he felt the nibbles and raspberries reach his v-line, Chan’s fingers slowly lowering his pant line before lightly scratching against the hypersensitive skin, he couldn’t help but scream again.

“NOHOHO NOHOT THEHEHEHERE! HAHAHAH!” The bunny’s throat became raw with his hysterics.

Lino begged and begged, his brain became fuzzy, and he swore he couldn’t even remember his own name.

All the comments that manager had made disappeared, his head filling with the warm feeling of the tickles.

If this was what having a scar give him, he really wouldn’t be insecure anymore.

Of course, Min would never admit that.

All he could think was, ‘It tickles it tickles OH MY GOD IT TICKLES!’

Chan wormed his head out of Minho’s hoodie, smiling when Lino let out a last peal of giggles from the sensation of the kangaroo’s hair.

The eldest engulfed Min in the blanket again, wiping the tears off of his face as the younger fell asleep, a small smile on his face.

He continued to trace his fingernail along the scar, resulting in the cutest, blushiest Minho ever, giggling lightly and batting at his hand.

“Min, it’s not your fault. That manager is so fired.” Chan growled under his breath, smiling down at his baby under his arms again, who yawned and blinked away the sleepy tears.

“mhm…good night, Chan hyung the Karen.”

“Wha-HEY!”

CHAPTER SEVENTEEN -> PEOPLE DON'T CHANGE (partially written! wc: 1.4k)

You sigh, placing your phone next to you as you slide down further into your pillows. Time is running out to ask Minho, you know that, and Lily has been pressing too. The deadline for offering interviews lingers sooner than when they start. With a groan, you swing your feet over the edge of your bed and slip them into the bunny slippers previously kicked off at the end of your bedframe, trudging to your door.

Minho is already pouring a cup of coffee into a dark brown mug when you enter the kitchen, wearing his normal work attire; a tight black t-shirt tucked into black jeans and a belt. Sometimes you were jealous of the simplicity. He doesn't notice you lean on the island, back facing you. When he does turn around, he startles, the tiniest drop of hot coffee running down the side of his mug and seeping under his hand. He doesn't hiss at the burn, doesn't even flinch, just puts the mug down and wipes his hand on the cloth hanging off the oven door.

"Dont sneak up on people, it's not nice," he says, replacing the cloth.

You perk up at his voice. "We're talking again, good, that's good. Listen, I deeply apologize for what I said and I don't even believe that, you know? I'm sure your ex loved you a lot. There was definitely a really good reason for her to hide her husband from you. Maybe he sucked! In any case, you're a great guy, so why wouldn't she choose you?"

Taking a deep breath, you refocus yourself. Minho is staring at you from above his mug, blowing gently on the hot liquid. There's still tension between you two, the air thick and hot.

"Was there a point to all that?" He asks bluntly.

"Yes, um. This is bad timing, but have you decided if you're doing Lily's thing or not yet...?" He sets his mug down with a sigh. "Of course, it's okay if you don't want to! Deadlines are coming up though so she needs an answer whether you're doing it or not."

He takes his time answering, sipping his coffee, running a hand through his hair, stretching. Part of you is getting frustrated. How hard is it to say a simple yes or no? Either he's doing it or not, there's not exactly a grey area.

"I'll do it," Minho finally answers, and you barely contain a squeal of excitement.

"Thank you, thank you, thank you!" You run around the island and hug him, nearly knocking over your stool in the process.

It's short-lived, pulling away to see Minho's face painted red, no doubt mimicking your own. Clearing his throat, he nods at you and grabs his coffee, turning away from you. You're about to leave when you remembered what prompted you to seek him out in the first place.

"We're having a game night tonight if you want to join? It's just gonna be the boys, Hyun, NingNing, and I invited Soobin too." You lean against the wall of the hallway leading to your rooms, waiting for a response.

"Ah, I might be working late again, but I'll see what Jeongin is up to. Is it okay if I..." He shakes his head. "Never mind, forget that. I'll either see you or I won't."

"Okaaay," you give him two thumbs up, but immediately put them back down when he gives you a weird look.

Game night is in full swing by ten with snacks and drinks taking up the island and bodies filling up the couch. A pile of UNO cards sit messily in the middle of the table, NingNing taking it upon herself to tidy it up every so often, even if it only stays like that for a couple of turns. You're so close to calling UNO, smirking as you place down another pick-up-4 card and watch as Soobin's head slowly turns to look at you with fake disdain. He keeps eye contact as his hand reaches for the deck, barely containing his own smile as he glares at you, and you can't help but giggle.

All night has been like this- teasing Soobin and getting him used to your friends now that you've become a bit more serious. His training under you has finally ended, so you feel less guilty about the whole thing. The only thing is that you still haven't shared it with your boss, but that's a problem for another day. Right now, all you can think of is the way Soobin has his free hand over yours, thumb caressing the back of your hand and only taking it away to place a card down. He fits in nicely with everyone, almost like he's always been there... which makes sense seeing as he was already friends with Beomgyu.

"UN-" you're attention turns to the two bodies walking through the front door, "-oh."

In comes Minho with a girl you don't recognize hanging off his arm, in their own world as they kick their shoes off and laugh at something she whispers in his ear. Neither seem to notice the big group around the table until the girl gives a little, and uncomfortable, wave. Minho has his arm wrapped around her waist tightly, and you follow his gaze to where Han and Beomgyu sit. On their faces are matching angry stares, Han with his mouth open slightly.

"You're kidding," Beomgyu scoffs. "Tell me you're kidding, Min."

"I forgot you were having a game night," Minho shifts.

"Don't ignore the question." You look at Beomgyu, anxiety crawling up your throat. "Why is she here? And why are you acting so... couple-y?"

Han stands, and you can see his hands are shaking. "You got back together?"

"Oh, come on," the girl speaks for the first time, a look of annoyance on her face. "We always get back together."

"I wasn't talking to you-" Han points a finger at her, then directs it to Minho. "You, explain."

"No," Minho sighs. "I don't think I need to. If you're unhappy with your own love lives, you don't need to project onto me. None of you can say shit about relationships here. You're sneaking around because you're ashamed, and Y/n is only with Soobin because she can't get over her ex. Just to name a few."

You avoid eye contact with Soobin, a pang of hurt in your chest, glaring at Minho.

"I'm not unhappy," you say, feeling Soobin squeeze your hand. "You have no right to comment on my relationships because you're jealous."

Hurt flashes over Minho's face for a millisecond, quickly covered by a stoic expression. "Why would I be jealous? People can change-"

"Like hell, they can." Beomgyu stands now, circling around the table and past the couch to get into his personal space. "You said it yourself you don't believe that! And what about your husband?" He looks the girl in the eye and you hear NingNing gasp; you forgot to tell her. "What does he think of all this?"

"We're divorcing," she answers quietly, looking down at the floor. "He wasn't good for me. Not like you'd understand, or even take the time to try and understand."

Her voice turns watery at the end of the sentence, orange hair shielding her face as she curls into Minho's chest. From the shudder of her body, you can tell she's starting to cry. You almost feel bad for her. Taking in her words, you feel there's more to the story than what you know and what the others are willing to listen to, but you're already to upset to care. Han joins Beomgyu, placing a hand on his shoulder.

"Maybe we should leave it alone."

"And maybe he should leave, take his princess back to her tower," Beomgyu spits.

Minho's eyes turn dark, jaw clenching. He's holding back hurtful comments, just barely. After another moment of tense staring, Minho breaks eye contact and leads the girl- his ex- back to the front door. Slipping on his shoes, he helps her with her own when her hands prove to be too shaky to tie the laces. When he leaves the room is completely silent, Beomgyu taking a seat next to Hyunjin on the couch and Han walking away down the hall, the sound of a door slamming following his departure.

CHAPTER TWENTY-TWO -> BEFORE (partially written, wc: 1.0k)

"Welcome to my childhood house," you say, opening the creaky door, Minho following you through. "It's not that impressive."

With an awkward laugh, you sling your bag over a chair in the dining room to the left, kicking your shoes off in the process. There isn't much to say about where you grew up, the modest little house speaking for itself. Family photos littered the fireplace mantle in the living room, but aside from that, there wasn't much personality in shared areas. No one was home much now since you and your sister had moved out and your mother works long hours.

"Can I see your room?"

You swing around to see Minho leaning against the doorway with his head titled toward you. The action sends a small shiver down your back.

"No!" You blurt, and his eyes widen. "A girl's room is very personal."

He stares at you for a few moments before breaking into laughter. "Did you just quote 10 Things I Hate About You to me?"

"...I might have," you giggle, surprised he got your reference.

"You're wondering how I knew that, aren't you?" The way your eyebrows raise says it all. "How many times did you watch that movie again...?"

"It's amazing," you roll your eyes, a small smile forming on your lips. "You never stuck around to watch the whole thing, so I didn't think you'd know, okay?"

"What do you mean?" Minho seems genuinely confused, standing straight. "I did- ah, right, you fell asleep that time. You snore, by the way."

This makes you blush. "Everyone does."

"I'm messing with you," he sighs.

Rolling your eyes again, you walk past him and move down the hallway toward your childhood bedroom. When you open the door, you're greeted by the soft mint walls and fuzzy white rug surrounding your bed. You sit on the bed, plush blankets shifting. Minho slowly enters, walking around slowly, and suddenly you feel exposed. All of your silly phases and old hobbies out for him to see, past art awards displayed on your desk in the corner and a pile of dirty laundry in another. He stops on the other side of your bed, fingers finding the frame of your family photo, still lying face down on your nightstand, and your heart hurts.

"Don't," you whisper, not ready to see it again. Immediately, Minho pulls his hand away and looks over to where you're now sitting against the headboard, legs tucked into your body.

"What is it?" Minho nods to the frame. When you don't answer, he climbs onto your bed and pokes your side, making you jolt. "Earth to Y/n. What's the photo?"

"Just a family one," you shrug, and he's still trying to catch your eyes. "Before."

"Before what?" He questions, and you finally lock eyes with him.

"...before I got him killed?"

His eyebrows furrow at this, clearly confused. You don't object this time when he reaches over and flips the frame up. Everyone is smiling and happy, two little girls standing with their parents at some kind of theme park. You couldn't have been more than twelve when it was taken, one of the last family vacations you took.

"What happened?" Minho asks, voice low, turning his whole body to face you with the photo still in his lap.

"It was my birthday," you start slow, willing yourself not to cry. "I had just turned fifteen and I didn't get this one album I really wanted. My dad could tell I was upset and said it wasn't in stock when he went to order it, but that he could go now and check if the store had it. We could make a day out of it, and we did.

"The mall wasn't super busy that day, so we got food first. In the actual store, he asked me to go browse as he found the album and paid since he wanted the illusion of surprise still." You sniff, taking the photo in your hands. "So I left to wait outside instead. This guy bumped into me on the way out and I made some stupid comment about watching where he was going," your voice wavers. "When I turned around, I saw he had a gun. Next thing I knew, I was watching him threaten the cashier and my dad."

You pause, taking a deep breath. Minho hasn't said anything, patiently waiting for you to either finish the story or announce you were done, you didn't want to say more. But you did. This is the first time you've opened up to someone about this, not including Hyunjin or NingNing.

"I panicked and ran to my dad, but that must have freaked the guy out because he tried to attack me, but my dad jumped out in front of me and got hit instead." You look up at Minho with damp eyes, voice barely above a whisper. "I still remember the feeling of his blood seeping into my clothes. I still remember screaming, begging him to move. "Thank you for telling me," Minho says when you're quiet again.

"If I hadn't..." you shake your head. "If I hadn't wanted that stupid album, he'd still be here."

"Don't do that," Minho grabs your face gently by your chin, forcing you to look at him again. "Don't blame yourself for something you couldn't have possibly predicted would happen. Y/n, that's not your fault. This is what you've been blaming yourself for?"

You nod. "If I wasn't being so stupid-"

"You were fifteen, Y/n."

And you can't hold it in anymore, sobbing and hiccupping into his shirt for the second time that evening. You stay like this for a while, and you don't know when you shifted into a lying down position, wrapping an arm across his stomach with a leg wrapped around one of his. His hand is in your hair, the other tracing lines up and down your exposed arm. Falling asleep is easy and unexpected, and when you wake up, he's been replaced with a large, purple cow plushie that was previously sitting in the corner of your room. There's a text from him on your phone waiting for you when you're about to ask where he is.

CHAPTER TWENTY-ONE -> COMFORT ME (partially written, wc: 535)

That... isn't Soobin.

None other than Lee Minho is sitting on a waiting room bench to greet you with a soft smile and a paper bag held tightly in his arms. He sets it down next to him and stands, letting you come to him. There are fresh tears cascading down your face as you practically throw yourself into his open arms, one of his hands smoothing your hair. Just the feeling of him holding you is enough to break you completely, barely able to keep yourself standing up.

"Shh," Minho guides you to sit on the peeling leather bench. "Breathe."

"She's awake," you gasp into his shoulder, still holding onto him tightly. "She's awake."

After a long time, you're able to peel yourself away from his now wet t-shirt and look up at him with wet eyes. His own glance between yours and you don't notice the way his heartbeat thumps louder, or the way his breathing picks up when you break into a smile. Minho brings his hand up to wipe your tears away and you can't help but lean into his palm, closing your eyes with a sigh. Against better judgement, Minho leans in and places a kiss on each of your eyelids, lips so soft you barely feel it. When your eyes flutter open, he can't look at you.

"She's doing better then?" Minho clears his throat, removing his hand from your face and shifting slightly away; you try not to be hurt by this.

"Yeah. The doctors say she should recover pretty quickly now and can go home by the end of the week hopefully." You eye the paper bag still sitting next to him. "What's that?"

"Oh!" He perks up, passing the bag over to you. "I almost forgot."

He watches you open it with a smile on his face, your own features mimicking his as you peer inside. It doesn't take long for you to scarf down the croissant, offering Minho a bite, but he shakes his head and delights in watching you savour it. This is the first moment you've had since you came down where you've just enjoyed something, not having the worry of whether your sister will still be alive when you walk into her room at the front of your mind.

"How have you been?" Minho asks once you're done eating, taking a sip of the guava juice.

"Really terrible?" You shrug. "It's like, there's this guilt eating away at me constantly for multiple reasons, and I haven't been able to cry until today. Instead, it's just been this feeling in my stomach and in my chest, all heavy and foreboding. My head's been killing me and my mom's been killing me and my sister could have been killed and I just-" Taking a deep breath, you debate your admission. "...I can't stop thinking of him, Minho."

"You don't have to tell me if you don't want to," his voice is quiet, one hand sliding over your knee in an act of comfort. "Why don't we get you home? Have the hospital call when you can see her?"

"I'd like that," you sigh, sliding your free hand over his. "I'd like that a lot."

notes -> we r getting closer and closer to y/n revealing what happened to her dad... maybe minho can get it out of her? speaking of minho, bro finally left his ex for good! is this really the start of minyn (minion, if u will), or will there be more obstacles in the form of people to keep them apart? oh, and i'm thinking i may close the taglist soon? idk yet !
