"How does a woman get into engines and motors, if you don't mind I ask?" Her tone is not judgy. Mostly, she is curious.

“Honestly, I’ve been working on machines for as long as I can remember,” she said, rubbing the back of her head, a few splotches of oil on her cheeks. “I think I gravitated towards them because taking them apart and putting them back together felt like a puzzle, and I guess...engines never treated me like I was unwanted. I could fix them, get them running again. It was tangible proof I could do something right. Once my Gramps took me in, he nurtured my talent and soon I was fixing generators and lobster boat motors and canning machines in half the time it took everyone else. Yeah, I’ve put up with some shit from guys who think it’s not a woman’s job, but luckily none of the Hearts so much as bat an eye. I’m very grateful.”
