Without a doubt, the deeper Naoto walked through the abandoned fortress the more he could feel the immense cursed energy resonating through his body — There is so much hate and despise lining the corridors of this fortress and there could only be one conclusion from this: It mirrors the owner of this place.

As he approached the core of the cursed energy, the sound of people conversing perked Naoto's attention which once more made him hold his guard up but it did not stop him from slowly sliding the door ajar that allowed him to peek at the situation in front of him.

Cursed this man that made her look battered and worn out from being locked up in Prison Realm —

"Who should I go after first, Ryo? Who should I go after first just so you would stop becoming a stubborn girl so we could see eye to eye?"

When his eyes locked with this man's feature, he could feel the weight of the world pressured against him — is this... Amakusa Seiji? Son of Zenitsu? That smile on Seiji does not suit the tone of his voice at all — How... his affect differs from his voice.

"Should I go for that lover boy? Ah, surely if I take him off the piece... you would just lose someone who loves you. Not that you feel the same way, right?"

Just like that Naoto unsheathed his dagger and he was ready to warped towards Seiji to injure the Shuten Douji by any means —

"I love him"

That declaration alone was enough to make Naoto halt his movement momentarily —

"I love him" began to swirl in Naoto's head. To think that he would hear Ryo's love for him in this way felt that he was intruding on a personal moment but there is no time to waste, right? Not when the person who loves him is back in danger, right?

Soon enough the empty throne room saw a sorcerer warping through the air to land a blow on a Shuten Douji.

The rest was history.

"Are you okay? Did anything happen to you?" His eyes were looking up and down to look for affirmation of the best or the worst that could happen while he was away from Ryo. "Do you need any healing? I can call someone" In the past he would have called on Hiro but considering the turn of events, he knew he can't rely on the latter anymore. In fact, relying upon Hiro shouldn't be a word that binds them anymore.

Well since he's a Sugita, it might be certain he could find you and rescue her, Seiji. After all, the Sugita family are known for their intelligence when it comes to finding curses like yourself.

The massacre of the three house were warranted in Shuten Doji's opinion. Hanesawa for their self-righteous of life, Sugita for their way of life and the Matsuda for their influence in politicking though the latter was not really Seiji's goal - he just let the Sawamura have their ways with Matsuda with the exchange his activities were turned a blind eye.

"I guess it was because of my old age that I keep leaving traces behind" He begin to acknowledge his fault even as an Oni.

"If he finds me then be it" He stretched his tired body, "I have been aching for a fight" He admitted with a pinch of amusement in his tone.

"Lady Ryo always does hold high regards for anyone, young sorcerer." The hakutaku nodded. "Which can be a disadvantage for her as she appears naive to such points, bringing her to trouble." It added and looked around for any small threats.

At the subject of the Yama Orochi, the hakutaku hummed and nodded. "Perhaps your findings have been correct. They are connected, and perhaps share the same goals to capture the lady." The celestial beast mentioned, turning its head at the right side where there were destroyed shrines. It narrowed its eyes and trailed towards it when giant shadowy hands emerged from the sides of the shrine, showing an image on its palms of what seemed to be demons celebrating something -- and in the same moving image, the sight of Seiji and Hiro.

Hearing the hakutaku's words, Naoto smiled softly to himself. — @miimpii

That is the thing that made Ryo special to him but sometimes he wonders if betrayal such as this would have tainted her view on placing someone on a pedestal. "I suppose that is true, Hakutaku-sama"

Yet the topic of Shuten Doji and his father being the mastermind of this all never sat well with Naoto's stomach. Watching the celestial beast turning its head towards a direction caught the sorcerer's attention and he does the same, eyebrows cocked together.

He sees it and he briefly wonders if the Shuten Doji is mocking them by celebrating something in a place that had robbed many lives and — Hiro. Despite knowing the possibilities of Hiro colluding, it still made Naoto's stomach dropped seeing the man standing confidently next to Seiji as if they were two peas in a pod. "What do you suggest that we do, Hakutaku-sama? Should I send Tesso to sneak on them before we march on?"

The hakutaku followed Naoto to hopefully find clues to where the enemy took Ryo to. The celestial beast turned towards the sorcerer and hummed. "The Shuten Doji never cares for anyone or anything than creating chaos, young sorcerer." It said. "I believe the Matsuda held hatred towards her and her views. Maybe even the Bureau too. Hence, him siding with the demon."

"But from what I understand, there seems to be a bigger threat. The one Yama Orochi."

The young sorcerer soughed in disappointment that his friend might have succumbed to his ideology that will harm people around them — @miimpii

"They were like oil and water the minute they met but I never thought it would go on and become like this" Naoto sighed once more while keeping keen eyes on his surrounding as he felt that they were being watched and it is only natural considering that this is where Ryo is last seen. "Ryo always seem to high regards on Hiro wherever she goes despite the differences"

"Shuten Doji..." He was sure that he had read tales of the said Leader of Oni. Born in the mountains, was the root cause of missing key people of the government. He was son of... "Did you say Yama Orochi?" Ah, everything clicked. "They are father and son... so it makes sense that they..." He halted on his tracks, "The letters and notes... S... and Z? We figured that Seiji is Shuten Doji and so... Yama Orochi? Or am I going ahead of myself in the head?"

The hakutaku looked around the grounds they were in, moving forward towards Naoto and his Kirin. The celestial beast tried to sense for any signs of Ryo in the premise, but it seemed there was none. "She is not here, young sorcerer." The hakutaku turned towards Naoto. "We are too late."

Naoto took a deep breath, exhaling it bit by bit to calm his increasingly anxious nerves — @miimpii

"Shall we trail cautiously, hakutaku-sama?" A beast that was acknowledged by the Emperor himself, at least Naoto knew well to address the beast accordingly as he decided proceed walking through the decimated ground. "Shuten-doji must be a twisted guy to take Ryo away in this painful place" He spoke his mind as his hand fingers now bend and extended to conjure shikigamis to be their guards. "Don't you think so? But what I could understand more... Hiro..."

Though the hakutaku was calm, the hitodama bounced around as if it was in panic -- until it managed to calm itself down and flicked its flames. "We've did that, Sugita-san." The fire spirit said, before the other yokai moved forward and looked at Naoto.

"For where hime was last seen, it was at the old temple grounds, where the Hanesawa family perished in the flames years ago." The hakutaku spoke. "She wanted to learn more of her family when the Shuten Doji appeared -- and I believe one of your comrades was the one who brought her to his trap."

So it was not a shrine but the Hanesawa ground? To think they would corner her there and their comrade was there? Their comrade... He has an inkling who it is ― @miimpii

“You are smart, hitodama-san” He praised the flame spirit calmly and not to be carried away by its panic. Another spirit to praise was the hakutaku but it might be best for the next time.

“Matsuda-kun, am I right?” At his own question, Naoto feels like falling down in disappointment again but he knows better than do that. “If it is Hiro-san then three of us won’t be enough. He is more powerful than I am and Natsuki combined”

Especially that domain expansion of his if he ever decided to use it. Only some came out alive from it, “Can I ask you a favour, hitodama-san? Please alert the names I have here” He pull out the namelists that has pledged for their underground cause.

“We need to secure the perimeter without Yukihito’s knowledge”

No he does not want to take his words back — He does not want Ryo to think that he is not serious but this is — this is too unplanned so he stood there dumbstruck, awaiting for Ryo's answer — "Whatever this is, whatever this are... it is all dependant on you"

A shuddering sigh left him and without any hesitation he pulled Ryo into his embrace ― @miimpii

There are many things in this world that scares Naoto and not being able to protect is one of them ― Especially when protecting his loved ones has become his utmost priority considering the turmoil state that they are in. Things have become crazier as each day has gone by and today is one of them.

Naoto does not know the crazy twisted mind that unleashed the special curse out on the open but it was harming the public and Ryo was the target ― The sorcerer can't risk it ―

“I don’t know what is holding you back sometimes, you look like a big fool sometimes” It is crazy that he can hear Hiro’s voice behind him.

Ryouiki Tenkai: Beasts of Paradise

Expanding his innate domain was exhausting and summoning beasts from the void was nothing short of exhuming. Needless to say when the battle was over Naoto felt that he could drop to the ground but seeing that Ryo is there and saying those words to him―

The efforts paid off. It really does.

And she is proud of him.

God knows what happens next because he might or might not passed out in the arms of an angel.

Bit by bit, slowly but surely — Naoto convinces himself that whatever that has gotten his heart beating right // @miimpii

It is love. There is no way in mistaking it. The way his heart is beating... it is definitely not making any subtle effort to scream out loud to say it is all only for Ryo. When their eyes meet and their fingertips just graced each other — it made the young sorcerer smiling almost ear to ear (and the only fact that maybe keeping himself behaved is that this four walls that the two of them are in now is his working space, he needed to keep his composure cool at the end of the day).

Almost, unadulteratedly enough, when their eyes met Naoto could not force himself to tear away from it instead he just invited himself to keep on gazing at that pair of beautiful eyes that (definitely have) coloured his dreams and giving them seasons of spring. "Were you looking for the article too?" He asked regarding the catalyst that made their eyes meet.

"I was wondering about it too so maybe... great mind thinks alike?" He was aware that sometimes investigating curses and deaths are not an easy to go about and sometimes there should be light jokes here and there. So throwing one while looking the eyes of the person that he loves.. is not really a bad thing, right?

"You know what this means, right?" Hiro asked the older man who coincidentally witnessed the whole thing with him. It sent him heebies-jeebies but at least, he could turn the table around by saying this:

"Your duo now is down to one, you know what that also means? You are even more sadder than timon and pumba is" Hiro did not hesitate at all to drop the bomb onto his senior which earned a disgruntled groan from Akihiko.

Because clearly, Sugita Naoto notices the not subtle judgement that overflows from the man's eyes as kept glaring down at him. When their eyes locked, seeds of anxiousness were planted in the man's heart that he had to look away briefly from those intense eyes but something inside him told him to, you know, break the ice.

"The way you are looking at me... Have we met before?” Naoto would not be surprised if they had met considering he has been Akihiko’s assistant and Akihiko did have a lot of client up until now but too Nao’s digress, he sometimes do forget faces. “For investigation purposes or some...thing?”

After the curse note and the alarming warning of what could happen to Hanesawa Ryo, Sugitao Naoto was brought into the Bureau for extensive investigations for he is: the only witness and the only who had interaction with the perpetrator but even so... still even so... they cannot rule out that this may be just a gimmick or foul play conducted by Naoto himself (The Bureau is that distrustful even among the members).

Hearing the front door open when he had least expected it (he specifically told Akihiko that he won't be seeing anyone for few days), on high alert — He conjured his shikigamis to stand by his side to protect him but — waves of relief washed over him when it was only Ryo who came to his humble abode out of the blue.

"Why are you here?" Instead of answering her questions, he came with his own. "Sawamura-san should be on the way to your place — after what happen — the Bureau is" Naoto brushed the fatigue out of his way, almost apologetic that he is on his nerves now. "I am sorry... I am okay... very much okay but you... did anything happen? Did you notice anything weird that roams in your place?"

It was supposed to a quaint breakfast between him and his mentor, Sawamura Akihiko but the lil' birdy definitely caught him off guard [ in relation to @miimpii ]

Sawamura Akihiko whom did not see the question coming almost choked on his rice while Sugita Naoto had a sheepish smile on his face, "To be called a simp may be too extreme?" Now his chopsticks rest against the rice bowl. "Ryo-san is actually cute! Don't you think so Akihiko-san?" At the question Aki waved his hand to disagree, "Well, in my humble opinion, I think she is cute and very nice too so" Naoto shrugged his shoulder without any care in this world. "It is natural that I return her kindness, right?" Other than Aki, Ryo is the one who had seen him as a fellow man too and not someone beneath unlike few bureau members.

"But I would do anything that Hanesawa-san asks me so" He resumed eating as if Akihiko wasn't there to even listen to what he had said, "Brat" Akihiko laughed and downed another meat. He understood where Naoto is coming from so he couldn't be mad at that man. Ryo is indeed a nice lady.
