Tomura Shigaraki can withstand a lot, more than what he gives himself credit for. He can hold his own against a multitude of heroes attacking him, push through horrible injuries, and even see through the bullshit of promising new members.
However, he absolutely hates the heat. It was the one element he could not stand, especially when its hitting the earth in full force.
This was unprecedented, a heat wave effectively immobilizing everyone from doing anything. All of his plans had been thwarted for the next couple of days and he was finding it harder to remain in the League for much longer.
Toga and Twice would come to him, pestering him with an insane amount of questions that he genuinley believed the heat got to him. Dabi complained about the lack of an air con located in the dingy hideout spot and Compress angrily sulked in the corner, possibly wishing he could be anywhere but here.
He couldn’t stand it for another minute.
He had to get out of here.
With a grumble, he got up from his spot on the worn down couch before seeking out Kurogiri out back. The lack of flesh made sense as to why he’d be out here, but Tomura desperately needed a lift to a destination in mind where he can hopefully cool down and be surrounded by something, more like someone, who would piss him off a lot less.
Reaching into the pocket of his worn out jeans, he pulled out a crumpled piece of paper, unraveling it carefully before holding it in front of the purple mist.
“Take me here. I need to get out before I kill someone,” the sentence wasn’t supposed to be harsh, yet he couldn’t control his anger the longer he stood here.
“Oh, of course, Shigaraki Tomura.” Kurogiri was smart not to ask questions, only using his Quirk to create a portal for Shigaraki to step through and be away from this place long enough. He was sure Kurogiri knew where he was going, but chose not to comment on it.
Soon enough, he was stepping into a back alley, trapped between two apartment buildings. A garbage bin was located towards the only entrance and exit, and the local cat was hiding out in the shade, head happily buried into its personal bowl filled with ice cold water. Out of the dozens of people who lived here, he was aware of only one kind spirit who would not abandon this cat on such a hot day.
Using the fire escape, he climbed up to the necessary floor. His movements were light and quick, knowing there was hardly a reason for him to use any cover due to the lack of people outside right now. Still, he used whatever energy he could to make it to his personal destination, rapping a few sturdy knocks on the door.
It took a while, but it finally swung open, revealing you, an individual who was handling this weather a lot better than he was. With a short greeting, you let him inside, making sure to lock up behind you. “Shit, did you walk all over here? It’s like 40° outside,” there goes the worry.
Avoiding your gaze, he grumbles out how Kurogiri gave him a lift before he lifted a hand to wipe away the drops of sweat running down the sides of his face. “Here, go take a cold shower. I’ll have something ready for you.”
This wasn’t the first time you’ve offer up your service to him since moving here to Musutafu. Your “relationship” with the most wanted villain in Japan was filled with favors.
A simple, ‘I scratch your back and you scratch mine.;
Time after time, you find yourself indebted to the white haired man, approaching him with the things you get to use every single day. A running shower, electricity, television, a bed even.
You never thought your favor returns would result in being an overnight motel for Shigaraki Tomura but its fine.
He only looked at you, face unreadable before stepping into your bedroom. An odd man, indeed, but he did not pose a single threat to you after ensuring you were harmless.
Everything looked slightly different to him once he was away from your line of sight. Changed bed sheets, some clothes scattered all over the place and maybe a thin later of dust coating the tops of your dressers but this place looked better than where he just came from and that is a fact.
A quaint life you live and all alone too. No one to bother you at ungodly hours of the day, or share the responsibility of living in a place like this. It’s a life he secretly longed for, but that thought was too far out of his reach.
It must have been twenty minutes before Shigaraki was hobbling out of your room, having swapped out his sweaty clothes for some clothes you’ve purchased with each passing visit.
Sweat shorts that hugged his waist and a plain black t-shirt that just barely fit over his toned body. His hair was still dripping from the ends and you did your best to avoid the rolling water droplets that cascaded down his scarred neck.
“Hungry?” your voice pulls him out of his train of thought, not exactly startling him but he was surprised at your sudden invasion of his personal space. Red eyes stared down at the little peace offering plate. Nothing fancy, just an assortment of medium sized dough balls, each one having been coated in a thin coat of frost.
Mochi ice cream.
A snack that you’ve recently discovered to be the easiest to make and the perfect combatant for this incredulous heat. “Making me complacent?” two fingers carefully picked up a rounded ball, not minding the iciness attacking the tips of his fingers.
“Rather, I’m keeping you from melting away on my floor. It’s probably going to be like this for the rest of today and a bit of tomorrow, so I can’t have my favorite villain fall into a heat stroke,” Shigaraki scoffed at the sound of him being your favorite villain. He was more interested in plopping onto your couch, carefully biting into half of the ball.
“You are trying to make me complacent. Quit it, its not a good look,” all bark, yet no bite. At least not to you he isn’t.
A small smile erupts from your face before you’re placing the tray down on the coffee table and sitting down next to him, careful to keep a small bit of distance between the two of you. It still was a little too hot for you to be invading his personal bubble like this.
“Says the one coming to me in this heat. Did something happen?”
Yet another scoff sounded from him, causing you to turn over only to be met with tired eyes. It’s not uncommon for the man to be exhausted, sometimes only ever coming here for the peace and quiet as he falls asleep on your bed or couch while you worked on something else. Surely this was nothing different.
Then came the complaints, Shigraki listing all of the things that everyone seemed to do that sent him into another phase of insanity. There was no right way to comfort him, but you did find out that he did like you nearby. Sometimes an ear was all he needed while venting but you knew in your heart that it wouldn’t suffice for the man.
Scooting in closer to him, you lightly placed a comforting hand on his arm, killing his babbling. He stared at you with guarded eyes, thinking this was your way of kindly asking him to shut up, when in fact this was quite the opposite.
A gentle smile from you is all it took to ease his nerves. There was no irritation hidden behind your irises or any pointed stares that may hint at your annoyance. Instead he found a gaze that could only be shared between someone who actually cares for another. Not that he’s ever been shown that any time recently.
The only person who gave a shit about him was killed by his own hand so fucking long ago, he doesn’t even remember what warmth felt like. However being here with you ignites something... a small glitter of hope.
You are not a villain, nor do you look towards heroes for guidance. You live independently and remain indifferent about the entire fight between good vs. evil. A gray area is what Shigaraki considers you as and to be quite fair, its what he needed. No one to pester him or question his motives.
Just another soul willing to listen.
What an oddly nice revelation.
He couldn’t stop the blush that came onto his face when he realize what had gone down, only turning his head away to hide his embarrassment. A small giggle could be heard until you were opting to closing the gap between both of your bodies. It wasn’t ideal in this weather, but neither of you could care right now.
“If you need a distraction, there’s a new movie I’ve been meaning to watch with you. We can talk more later,” you tell him gently, moving your hand up from his shoulder to the back of his hair, gently caressing the strands there.
This was crossing an unestablished boundary between the two of you. It was the first time you’ve thought to touch him like this but it was settled that it was perfectly okay.
Like a cat, Shigaraki’s back straightened until he was calming down and leaning into your touch, sinking deeper into your side. You hoped he could not see the smile that was blooming across your cheeks. It’s not like he’d let you live it down anyway.
“Aren’t you going to put the movie on?” He broke the silence first but made no effort to look at you, clearly too lost in your touch to speak.
A giggle left your lips before you sat up, reaching over to the coffee table to pick up the tv remote. It wasn’t much you could offer, but the promise of company was more than enough.
You and Tomura sat through the movie in peaceful silence. The small mountain mochi ice cream has long been eaten by the two of you, Shigaraki letting you have the last one. The positions has long since changed, Shigaraki opting to rest his head on your lap to make sure you were still rubbing your fingers through his hair.
With much easier access with him on your lap, you even found the boldness to carefully caress his cheeks before trailing back to his hair. Neither of you said anything to each other in that time, Shigaraki basking in your gentle touch. The sun was starting to set, meaning that the air in your apartment was finally starting to get colder. The movie ended a while ago and you idly jumped from program to program until settling on some detective show.
Glancing down, you found him peacefully asleep on your lap, any and all traces of the angry villain from earlier was long gone. Admittedly, it’s easy to admit that he’s attractive. While the last few months have been hell on earth for him, you can see the changes he’s gone through, physically and mentally.
It’s been equally invigorating and terrifying witnessing his raw power on television, only for him to come to you at the end of a long week like a puppy returning home to its owner. It’s nice. Somewhat domestic.
Somewhat.
Without thinking, you leaned down to peck his warmed cheek, the villain remaining still beneath you.
There was a lot you could give to Tomura Shigaraki. A bed, bath, warm food, even extra clothes on his back.
Yet, it was never expected your heart would be part of that list either.
