This is the last chapter of “A Burning Hill” before we move onto the second part of the story which I’m very excited for! Thank you all for sticking around so long and reading this story. It really means the world to me!

The only sound to fill the office was that of pouring water, hitting a heavy crystal glass and filling to the top.
It’s over. They’re done. Everyone is done.
Well, it’s almost over.
“What are you going to do with them?” Aiden asks once Jinhwa sits back in his chair, causing the man to look up, and raising his brows.
“Keep some just to hold over their families' heads in case they try anything,” Jinhwa tells the boy honestly. He shoves the box towards the boys across from him, Aiden and Reid’s eyes watch it slide across the desk. “You can do whatever you want with the rest. I don’t need or want them.”
Aiden takes the box into his hands, swallowing as he sets it in his lap.
The room is quiet for a few minutes, everyone just silently stewing in their own thoughts and actions. None of them can believe it’s actually over, the big bad evil has finally been defeated.
Reid doesn’t feel the relief, he doesn’t feel the weight lift off his shoulders, he just feels the blood caked on his hands.
“Why?” Reid finally wonders out loud, eyes focused on the edge of Jinhwa’s desk instead of the man himself. Aiden glances over at Reid, only for a second before back in front of him.
Jinhwa doesn’t look up, just over at a picture on the corner of his desk. Smoothly, he flips it towards the boys, causing both of them to look up.
It’s an old picture, taken clearly in the 80s by how the two people are dressed in it and how aged it is. It’s a woman holding a baby on her hip as they stand on a pier, she’s smiling but just barely.
“That’s my mom,” Jinhwa starts, eyes on the photograph as the boy's eyes go back to the man speaking. “She had me just when she started university. She was a good mom for what she had and loved me no matter what. I never knew my dad. She said he died in combat, told me he was a real hero,” Jinhwa turns the picture back to himself but he doesn’t look away from it, leaning back in his seat.
“The only man I had in my life was my grandpa and he hated my guts,” Jinhwa lets out a small laugh, “My grandma did too but
He was so cruel. And I had no idea why, not until I was twelve and we were having dinner with them and he just
kept looking at me like I was literal scum of the Earth,” There’s a bitterness in his words, a hurt neither one of the boys have heard from the man before. His eyes were unfocused and staring at the wall behind the picture instead of the picture itself.
“My mom told him to knock it off and they started fighting. They’re yelling, shouting, screaming, and then he points to me and goes ‘I hate him for what he did to you.’ and my mom said
” He pauses, taking a deep breath through his nose, “She said: ‘You hate what his father did to me.’ and then he tells her, ‘I hate that you kept a rapist’s kid,” and it’s fuzzy after that but
Yeah,” He looks back at the photo of his mother with a sigh, swallowing.
“We never talked about it again but I never forgot. You don’t forget shit like that. I got older, got more resources, and learned all about my father and what he did
He only got three months and probation. Only served a month and was out of good behavior,” Jinhwa’s dark brows knit when he finally looks back at the boys, who watch him speak with sad eyes that advert down when he looks at them.
“I killed him the first chance I got,” It’s cold. Detached. “‘Said that shit would never happen again under my watch,” Jinhwa’s eyes float to Aiden then the box, sighing through his nose with a shake of his head.
“But it did. So I took care of it and it’ll never happen again,” Reid looks up at Jinhwa’s stern tone, watching the man’s stoic face with blood splatters decorating his full cheeks. Another silence fills the room, Jinhwa swallows before taking a sip of his water.
“Whatever you two need, I’ll give to you. We’re family now,” Jinhwa explains, causing the boys to nod. “That includes the girls too. I will give you guys whatever you need.”
Another silence fills the room as Aiden looks down at the box in his hands, tightening his grip around it before sighing through his nose.
“So, it’s
it’s over?” Aiden asks in a small voice. Reid looks over at him then at that disgusting box, taking a deep breath in through his nose. He wants to rip that box out of his hands and throw it into a fire. He wants it gone. He wants the weight off Aiden’s shoulders––off everyone in that box's shoulders. He wants them to be free.
Jinhwa nods, giving a small smile. It’s weak but it’s soft.
“Yeah,” Jinhwa says quietly, causing Aiden to sigh in relief, shutting his eyes tightly as he keeps his head down.
“It’s over.”
Tumblr media
Reid kicks a log into the campfire, watching it burn with a small sniff and rub of his nose as he sits beside Jieun on the hard forest ground.
This is where they were supposed to go that night. They were supposed to have a group bonding moment around a campfire. It was supposed to bring them closer together. Though plans changed, things changed, and people changed they got closer in a way they never thought possible.
Reid isn’t sure if he’s glad that Miyu killed Sunhee that night. It’d be hard for him to say he is but it’d be even harder for him to say he isn’t.
Miyu isn’t glad she killed Sunhee but she won’t lie and say she feels bad about it. At first, there was a lot of guilt and remorse, but as time went on those feelings faded. With every person that was killed, Miyu felt a sense of relief that she had started what she did by acting on her impulse to hit Sunhee.
Sometimes she wonders where everyone would be if she held it back like she had a million times before.
Aiden holds the box of polaroids in his lap as he sits squarely in front of the fire. The box feels like a block of hot cement, burning Aiden’s hands the longer he holds it. Reid looks up from the flames and over at Aiden, sharp eyes falling down to the box in his hands.
Reid wonders how Aiden will move on or if he ever will move on.
“Do you want to throw it in together?” Miyu asks, breaking a silence that feels like it’s lasted a century. Aiden still doesn’t look away from the flames flickering in front of him, nodding with a thick swallow.
Miyu stands from her spot, extending her hand down to Aiden to help him up. Aiden accepts the help, pulling himself up with one hand while the box remains tucked under the other arm.
He stares at the ground, taking deep breaths through his nose as Miyu gently guides him closer to the fire. It’s hard for him, it’s obvious, she knows that. It’s all over his face too. Miyu keeps one hand on Aiden’s back as she stares at the box for a few beats before at the fire.
She hasn’t seen what’s inside of it. She doesn’t want to. Reid told her what was inside.
Miyu knows better than to open up that already stitched shut wound. The stitches might be messy and coming apart in some places but the wound is shut nonetheless, and Miyu plans to keep it that way.
Her hand reaches for the box, guiding it closer to her so she can take one side of it in one hand while Aiden holds onto the other. It’s a weird feeling, she thinks, knowing that in just a few moments one of the last physical reminders of the most painful day of her life will be gone.
The only reminder left will be herself.
That’s something new she’ll have to learn to cope with and she will. She always does.
Miyu’s eyes look up to watch Aiden’s face, checking on him, as he tries to navigate this as well.
It’s hard for him, it always has been, and she knows it’s harder for her to understand what he went through, but she’ll try. She always tries.
“I
I feel sick,” Aiden whispers. Miyu swallows thickly, nodding. He doesn’t look up from the box.
“I do too.” She wants him to know he’s not alone. He’s never been alone. Aiden sniffles, shutting his eyes tightly for a few beats before blinking them open and finally looking at Miyu, who only offers him the kindest smile.
“Whenever you’re ready, Iseul.” Miyu tells him with a small nod. Aiden feels his lips turn up slightly at the name people rarely call him, looking towards the fire and then at Miyu with a nod silently telling her; it’s time.
They don’t even need to count to three, they both just simultaneously toss the box into the dancing flames, watching the orange and gold dancers engulf it easily, charring it with every twist and turn of their bodies.
Miyu feels the lump in her throat slowly start to dissolve the longer she watches the box burn, feeling like she’s able to breathe properly for the first time in years.
Aiden doesn’t feel the same relief. He stares at the flames with a look of bitterness and anger that he doesn’t understand. He wants to be free of this, to let go of it all and feel like him again, but he just doesn’t.
He nearly jumps when he feels a hand in his, looking down and seeing Miyu holding his hand tightly. Aiden feels his jaw clench as he looks at the ground again his eyes hot and wet, threatening to spill over at any second.
It’s over but it doesn’t really feel like it.

“It’s the last one, Aiden. Come on–”
“Reid, I can’t go in there.”
“We’re just gonna talk to him,” Jinhwa says, ironically with a metal baseball bat in one hand, “He’s just like the other ones. Get it together, Aiden.”
Aiden knows Hyunwoo isn’t like the other ones. They don’t know but he does. Bile rises in his throat with every step they take as he can feel his chest begin to collapse in on him as they inch closer and closer to the door. Aiden grabs Reid’s arm, stopping the elder and giving him a desperate look when he looks back at him.
“Reid, I’m scared,” Aiden whispers, tears already brimming his eyes. Reid gives him a confused look, knitting his brows together at the boy’s reaction as he watches the younger’s face. “I don’t want to go in there.”
“You think I do?” Reid whispers. Aiden shakes his head with a deep breath.
“You don’t get it–
“Then help me get it,” Reid simply interjects, raising his dark brows as Aiden shakes his head, squeezing the elder’s arm tightly. “What is going on with you?”
“Reid,” Aiden takes a deep breath, feeling heat begin to run down his cheeks, “I can’t
see him.”
“Why? Do you know him?” Reid asks, seemingly asking all the wrong questions. Aiden wishes he could just get it and understand why he’s terrified. That his questions aren’t helping but Reid seems to be dumb as bricks when it comes to no verbal communication.
Hell, he even struggles with verbal communication.
“What are you guys doing?” Jinhwa says, suddenly ten steps ahead of them and in front of a door, waiting. “Hurry the fuck up.”
Aiden gives Reid on last pleading look but Reid doesn’t get it. He never gets it. He just puts his arm over Aiden’s shoulders to practically drag him down the hall, keeping him in place behind Jinhwa. He can feel his body tremble and try to pull away from him but Reid has an iron grip on him.
“Did you fuck this guy or something? I know you like older guys,” Aiden knows Reid doesn’t mean it the way it comes out but the question and statement makes him sick to his stomach, hunching over with a sob as he puts his hands on his knees. Jinhwa stops his hand right before he knocks, looking back at the boys, annoyed.
“Hyung, please, can I just wait in the–” Before Aiden can finish, Jinhwa grabs him by his collar and slams into the wall behind them. Aiden whimpers loudly, shutting his eyes tightly as Jinhwa gets close to him, leaving them nose to nose.
“Stop crying,” Jinhwa hisses, making Aiden whimper again, sounding like a wounded puppy when he does so. It makes Reid’s chest hurt when he hearts it, looking away with a deep breath.
“Listen to me, we go in there, we do our job, and we go. It’s easy–”
“It’s not easy,” Aiden cries, causing Jinhwa to slam him against the wall again, his head hitting it with a loud thud that makes the youngest yelp, grabbing Jinhwa’s arm to hopefully ease the blow.
“Yes it is. We are done after this, Aiden. You can’t chicken out now.”
“I’m scared,” Aiden sobs, pushing weakly against Jinhwa, who doesn’t let up, just raises his brows mockingly at him.
“You’ll be even more scared if you don’t go in there and do your fucking job,” Jinhwa threatens, causing Reid’s eyes to widen watching as Aiden starts to squirm against the man, breathing at an alarming rate. Jinhwa slams him against the wall once more for good measure, watching the fight slowly leave the boy as if he had any in the first place.
“Stand there and fucking watch for all I care. You’re going in there no matter what,” Jinhwa commands simply, letting go of the boy and smoothing out his shirt. Aiden rubs his eyes with the tips of his fingers, nodding to Jinhwa’s words.
Reid slowly puts his arm around Aiden’s shoulders, squeezing gently as Jinwha finally knocks on the door with a loud and demanding knock.
There’s a moment where Aiden thinks the man might not be home, a sense of relief washing over him until he hears the door unlocks and his heart stops.
The door opens and a man stands in the doorway, tall and beautiful. Skin clear and hair dark and shiny. His smile is evil though, Reid can tell the second he sees it.
“Ah,” His voice is low, dark, “I’ve been waiting for you guys. Do you want to come in?”
For once, Reid is scared. They’ve always used the element to surprise with these attacks but this one is different, neither Reid nor Aiden knowing why.
Jinhwa returns the smile, his just as foreboding.
“Would love to.”
Hyunwoo’s apartment is horrifically clean. It looks like something out of a display, not a single thing out of place, not even a speck of dust to be seen.
The three of them sit on his couch, each one taking their own cushion. Jinhwa looks the most relaxed out of all of them, sitting on the edge closest to the door, Reid sitting in the in the middle, and Aiden tucked in the corner seat closest to the wall.
“You killed all my friends,” Hyunwoo says, pouring Jinhwa a glass of amber liquid that Reid can only assume is whisky. When the pair make eye contact, it takes everything in Reid not to shiver.
This guy is a total fucking freak.
He smiles at him.
“You both look too young to drink. I could get you some water?”
Reid narrows his eyes at that while Aiden shakes his head quickly, silently. Hyunwoo nods, humming at their reactions and turning back to Jinhwa, who sat with the cold steel bat propped up between his legs, both hands resting on the top of it.
“They did have it coming, didn’t they?” Hyunwoo questions, grabbing his own crystal class and taking a swig of the liquid, clearing his throat afterwards. His eyes set on Aiden, watching him squirm beneath his gaze, causing him to smirk softly.
“Especially Sunhee
Right, Aiden?”
“Don’t talk to him,” Jinhwa says sternly, causing Hyunwoo to look at his boss, raising his brows.
“Why not? He’s here too, isn’t he? What’s the point of bringing him if I’m not supposed to talk to him?” Hyunwoo ponders, standing from his seat to saunter around to where Aiden was sitting, eyes never leaving Jinhwa’s. Aiden tries to keep his breathing steady, but the way his eyes widen and hands hold tightly onto his thighs, it’s clear he’s falling deeper into distress the closer Hyunwoo gets.
“Plus,” Hyunwoo takes Aiden’s chin into his hand suddenly, jerking his head up to look at him. Aiden shuts his eyes tightly, biting back a whimper. Everything feels like it’s unraveling and falling apart, like his dirt secret is slowly seeping out for everyone to see. He doesn’t know what he did to deserve all thise.
“Aiden knows me better than anyone here. Isn’t that right, baby?” Hyunwoo coos, causing Aiden to finally whimper, trying to twist his chin away but the man’s grasp is too firm. Almost like his body reacts before his brain does, Reid grabs the bat from Jinhwa’s hands and swings with all he can, hitting Hyunwoo’s knee, forcing it inward with a loud crack that sends the man crumpling to the ground, shouting out in agony.
“He said don’t fucking talk to him,” Reid commands, pointing the bat down at the man on the ground, letting it hover in front of Hyunwoo’s face as he gasps and inhales deeply, hands on his knee.
Jinhwa quickly stands, putting his hands on Reid’s shoulder, stopping him from any further attack, looking down at Jinhwa.
“Where are the pictures, Hyunwoo?” The man asks, causing Hyunwoo to chuckle darkly, looking up at Jinhwa before letting his head lay back down on his hardwood floors.
“That’s why you wanted a drink, huh?”
“June told us all about them. He squealed pretty easily,” Jinhwa tells Hyunwoo, causing Reid to look around. He doesn’t remember any talk about pictures. He doesn’t remember any talk at all from that night if he’s being honest. It’s a bloody and gruesome night that leaves Reid twitching and tossing in his sleep. He rather just forget it all.
“Of course he did,” Hyunwoo laughs, shaking his head. “He was such a bitch. A fucking freak too. Always cutting girls up, leaving his name on them. I’m shocked it took someone this long to get him,” Hyunwoo admits, chuckling when he speaks about June. “That kid was such a brat. You did the world a favor–”
“I’m about to it another one,” Jinhwa interrupts, putting his foot on Hyunwoo’s chest firmly, applying more weight with each passing second, “Let’s just get this over with. Where are they?”
Hyunwoo is struggling to breath now, taking a wheezy breath as he shrugs cockily.
“Beats me,” He says too casually, “In a shoebox somewhere. Maybe my bedroom? I don’t know. Look around,” He coughs before Jinhwa removes his weight, sighing in annoyance before taking the bat from Reid, nodding down the hall.
“Go find them,” Jinhwa simply commands.
Reid follows the order like a dog without hesitation, walking down the hall and entering what has to be Hyunwoo’s bedroom.
It’s ridiculously clean as if he’s never slept in here before. The bed made tightly and carpet not a stain on it. The sight makes Reid’s brows knit, feeling an uneasy seed begin to grow in the pit of his stomach that blossoms into thorny bush of roses the more he walks around, making breathing a bit harder.
He doesn’t know why he’s so uneasy, something just feels off.
Silently, he digs around in the dressers, dropping the neatly folded clothes to the ground until every drawer is empty. It makes hims turn towards the bed, sighing as he drops to knees, looking under it to be met with complete darkness, nothing filling the void. Reid sighs pushing himself back up, pushing himself towards the bed side table and opening the drawer.
It’s empty besides a bible. Reid grunts, slamming the drawer shut before turning away, biting the side of his tongue with an annoyed glance around the room. Everything feels weird. Fake. This doesn’t really feel like Hyunwoo’s room–Does he really live this clean? Reid’s eyes lock on the closet door, looking it over before making his way towards it.
When he puts his hand on the doorknob, there’s a bolt of something that tells him not to open it, making him freeze, staring at the white painted wood for a few beats before pulling it open with a firm tug.
Clothes pour out like waves crashing to shore, covering Reid’s feet and making him step back, brows knitted tightly at the sheer amount of crumpled clothing the man had in his closet. It’s a fucking mess in there, nothing like the rest of his bedroom. Reid knows what Jinhwa wants is in there, there’s no other place it could be, but he can’t bring himself to get deeper in the closet.
It smells stale in there, a small scent of rust lingering in the air since he opened those doors, making Reid huff in annoyance before pushing forward, getting on his knees and shifting through the pieces of clothing.
It’s weird, Reid thinks, that Hyunwoo has so many odd pieces of clothes that don’t look like they fit him. A lot of t-shirts that don’t look ones he would wear. That’s only the first layer, the second layer Reid finds blouses that he’s for sure Hyunwoo wouldn’t wear, the closer to ground he more underwear he finds and that’s when he stops digging through the clothes even if there’s more of a mountain inside the closet.
He feels gross even looking at the articles of clothing, knowing they don’t belong to Hyunwoo and the sheer amount of them. Reid’s sure he’s opened the door to hell and is looking at a twisted trophy case that deserved to be locked and never opened again. Still, with a twisted face, Reid shoves piles of clothes out of the closet and into the bedroom just so he can get in there better. There’s still a few stary articles decorating the small floor space when Reid is done, they look practically glued to the floor and Reid has no interest in peeling them off.
The stale smell only grows more intense as he steps in, looking around in the dark before looking up. No light. It’s just a small dark room Reid has to navigate practically blind before he reaches in his pocket and turns on his phone flash light, the bright LED light making his eyes burn slightly as he looks around.
There’s not a lot of places to look around. To his left is a wall, to his right is a wall, but above him is a shelf with a brown shoebox meticulously set a top of it. That has to be it, Reid thinks, reaching up and grabbing it with one large hand before putting his phone in his pocket and letting darkness swallow him again.
The box has some weight to it, making Reid wonder if it’s the right box. Pictures can’t weigh that much, can they? Morbid curiosity gets the best of him and he shakes the lid off with one hand, freezing when the box’s contents are revealed.
Pictures can weigh a lot when there’s a shit ton of them.
The sheer volume of polaroids in the box make bile rise to Reid’s throat. They’re separated into piles, tied together with a thick string or a singluar rubber band. Reid takes a deep breath, sitting on the bed and just staring at them, fingers twitching as he scans over the white edges of the photos. He picks one pile up, a cluster of four, jaw tightening when he slides the string off of them.
He doesn’t recongize the smiling girl with pink hair in the first photo, but he recongizes the man smiling next to her as June. Reid can feel his heart begin to pound as he slowly shuffles through the pile to the next one. In the next photo, she’s passed out against June’s arm, who is still smiling but this time he’s throwing up a peace sign. He’s not alone in this one, leaning over the couch they were sitting on is Inseok, posing with a matching peace sign too casually. Reid can feel his heart beating in his throat as he flips to the next picture which he quickly looks up from, shutting his eyes and putting the pictures back in the box with a slam, feeling as if he could throw up as he rubs his face with one hand.
He doesn’t know who that girl is or where she is now but all he can hope for her is that she’s okay now, that she’s maybe found some peace. He can’t blame her if she hasn’t.
Theres too many piles for Reid to count, making him wish they started this vigilante search for justice sooner, but there’s one in the center that pulls Reid’s hand towards it. Maybe it’s morbid curiosity, maybe he just wants to torture himself by looking at the faces of those he couldn’t help, he doesn’t know what makes him grab the pile kept together by a red rubberband but when he sees the faces in the first photo he’s frozen, jaw dropping as he takes a deep breath.
Sunhee and Aiden posed together smiling, their heads tilted together to where they were touching. It feels like years since Reid has seen Aiden’s smile reach his eyes and even longer since he remembered Sunhee’s face. His hands are shaking, an anger brewing inside him as heat flashes behind his eyes, slowly flipping to the next picture.
The pattern of photos doesn’t seem to change much, the next one is of Aiden passed out, laying on a couch with Sunhee straddling him, smiling at the camera as both her hands are putting peace signs, Hyunwoo is taking the picture. Reid’s head feels like it’s been spinning for hours now, breathing stopping completely and eyes blurred as hot angry tears run out of them every time he blinks. He doesn’t know why he flips to the next photo, he knows what it’s going to be, and he does the same thing when he sees the same scene just with Aiden, slamming the photos back in the box, but this time he stands, storming back into the living room with only one goal in mind.
He has tunnel vision, not even hearing when Jinhwa asks what he found, only ripping the bat from his hands and bringing it down swiftly onto Hyunwoo’s face. Faintly, beneath the sound of crushing bone and squlching blood, Reid can hear Aiden scream before he’s silence by himself or Jinhwa, Reid doens’t know nor care. There’s so much rage inside him, he can’t stop himself from continuing to bring the bat down again, and again, and again.
It’s a sobering thought. That even once he’s done killing Hyunwoo, it won’t really end. Not for Aiden, for Miyu, for the girl with pink hair, for the rest of those people in that box. It makes him so unbelievably angry, he can’t feel anything but that. Anger.
He’s pretty sure he could’ve kept going if Jinhwa hadn’t stopped him, his arms weren’t even hurting despite bringing the bat down countless of times, his adrenaline is so high and heart beating so fast he can’t feel anything, he just wants Hyunwoo gone forever. He wants it all gone.
“That’s enough! He’s dead! He’s dead!” Reid can hear Jinhwa yell over the sound of blood pumping in his ears, he still tries to rip himself from the elder’s hold, fighting as hard as he can to get away. All he sees is red, nothing have a clear shape, just pure hot red that only makes his fight kick in harder.
Then he feels hands on his face, holding tight as steel to still him, making the color slowly leak back in.
“It’s over! It’s done, Reid,” It’s Aiden’s voice. It makes a sob punch out of Reid when he hears him, his touch suddenly feeling like it’s burning his skin but soothing it as well, causing him to sob again.
“I’m so sorry, Aiden,” Reid doesn’t know why it’s him saying that, but it brings tears to the other’s eyes, nodding quickly.
“It’s over. It’s okay. It’s over,” Aiden whispers, dropping his head down with a sob that Reid can barely hear. Everything feels like it’s underwater. He can’t hear, can’t see straight, his knees feel weak, causing him to lean forward, dropping his forehead against Aiden’s.
“I’m so sorry. I’m so sorry,” Reid repeats, letting Aiden pull him into a hug, Jinhwa’s arms letting go of him. Reid’s aching arms wrap tightly around Aiden tightly, putting his hand on the back of his neck to hold him even closer as he feels Aiden hold tightly onto his shoulders.
Aiden doesn’t say anything. Just lets the silence settle.

Aiden had an uneventful childhood.
He’s the youngest of four. His parents didn’t pay much attention to him. They didn’t need to. He was a good kid. No one needed to watch him that close. He’d always do the right thing.
Aiden’s never done anything bad. He’s not a bad guy. He’s the exact opposite actually.
So he can’t wrap his brain around how he got himself involved in this.
“Let me go!” Jina screams as she thrashes in Aiden’s hold. Reid looks up from Inseok’s crumbled body, shooting Aiden a look.
“Cover her mouth!” Reid shouts like this should be some easy task for Aiden. Aiden looks like he’s about to start screaming himself as he slaps a hand over Jina’s mouth, causing her to scream more.
And kick more. She’s kicking a lot.
Aiden doesn’t consider himself weak but he’s never held a screaming and crying girl who wants nothing more than to get away from him.
His throat is getting tighter and his eyes are getting hot. He can think a single coherent thought as he struggles to keep Jina in his hold. He’s just staring at the ground in front of him, watching Jina’s legs twist and kicked.
She’s wearing white sneakers. There’s specks of red blood on them.
Aiden can’t breath. He’s not breathing. He can’t get a breath in.
“Inseok!” Jina screams once she twists her way out of Aiden’s hold. Her nimble body slipping out when his hold weakened from his lack of breathing. She doesn’t run away from the scene, she runs towards it. She runs straight towards her injured boyfriend like there was anything she could do to help him.
Reid acts almost immediately reacts, grabbing Jina by the waist with one arm and holding her tightly to his chest. She screams again when Reid pulls her away from Inseok, who tries to push himself up to attempt to help Jina. Instantly, he covers her mouth
“Don’t–” His words sound so slurred they don’t even sound like words. Aiden can barely hear them over the blood pumping in his ears as he runs after Jina, four beats too late. Jinhwa gives Inseok a brutal kick to the back of the head, sending the boy back down onto the concrete with thud.
Jina’s eyes go owlishly wide when Inseok hits the concrete again, screaming into Reid’s hand as the boy held her back with an iron grip.
“Don’t make her watch,” Jinhwa says too casually for the situation they’re in. It makes Aiden’s blood run cold. He points where Aiden had her earlier, sighing. “Take her over there until we’re done, seeing Aiden can’t handle the job.”
Aiden can’t even process the jab, he’s too busy staring at Inseok struggle to roll himself on his back.
It’s a pathetic sight. The boy’s usually beautiful face red and stained with blood that came from a wound from the side of his head. His eyes are tightly closed, his chest rising and falling quickly as he tries to comprehend the situation. His nose is bleeding. There’s some blood on his bottom lip. There’s a lot of blood.
“Don’t hurt–Don’t hurt, Jina,” Inseok gets outs, taking a deep breath as he tries to open his eyes. When his eyes do open, they looked unfocused, hazy. Aiden’s never seen a person’s eyes look like that before. “She didn’t do anything,”
“I know she didn’t,” Jinhwa dryly replies, crouching down to get closer to Inseok’s face. “Do you really like her? Or are you just saving her for you and your friends?”
Inseok shakes his head with a groan, trying to grab Jinhwa in some way but his movements are too slow and the man simply brushes the boy’s hands away with the crowbar he’s hold like he’s just a pesky fly.
“She didn’t–She has nothing to do with that–”
“Yeah that’s all you isn’t? Do you pick the girls your friends rape or do they tell you who they want and you just help get them to the back?”
Aiden feels that tightness in his throat again. He doesn’t want to be here. He doesn’t want hear Jinhwa talk about what Inseok and his friends did so flipantly anymore. It makes him sick. Everything about this makes him sick.
“I never touched any–”
“I know you didn’t. You just helped get them there,” Jinhwa says in the most patronizing tone Aiden’s ever heard in his life. It makes him feel like he’s done something wrong. “Did you watched? You look like a small dicked motherfucker who would get off on stuff like that.”
Inseok tries pushing himself up again like he’s going to defend himself but Jinhwa acts faster, bringing the crowbar back with two hands and slamming it into Inseok’s nose bridge. The boy’s head snaps back with a disgusting crack that make’s Aiden turn away, covering his mouth in shock and disgust.
He could’ve lived his whole life without hearing someone’s nose shatter like Inseok’s did.
The scream of pain that Inseok let out will echo through Aiden’s brain until he dies. He’s sure of it. He’s never heard anything so raw and gutteral before. The sound waves sink into his bones and make them shake. He can’t even begin to process how Reid and Jinhwa are handling this without even a tremor in their voice.
Jinhwa looks at Inseok like he’s some bug that needs to be squashed. The look of disgust on the man’s face is so intense, it looks like he’s going to be sick. Inseok starts crying.
Aiden has to give him some credit, he would’ve started crying a long time ago.
“I’m sorry,” Inseok sobs. Aiden slowly turns his head back towards the boy, watching blood pour out from his nose at an alarming rate. His mouth and chin are covered in blood, it’s covered the collar of his shirt. The crimson liquid is everywhere. Inseok is covered in it. “I’m so sorry. I’m so sorry.”
Aiden looks between Inseok and Jinhwa, waiting to see what the older man does. He just stares at the crying boy, unmoved.
“Aiden,” Jinhwa says, voice low. A twinge of fear ignites inside Aiden’s chest but he looks at Jinhwa, who barely looks over his shoulder to look at him. “Turn around.”
The fear only grows into a forest fire inside Aiden’s chest as he slowly turns around, eyes wide and hands shaking. The smoke makes its way up his throat, suffocating him. Aiden looks at the ground with wide watery eyes, blinking rapidly to keep any tears from falling.
He shouldn’t cry over people like Inseok. Inseok is getting what’s coming to him. He’s getting what he deserves.
But Aiden can’t help himself from thinking about Inseok’s mom. His family. Jina. People loved Inseok even if he did horrible things. It makes his chest ache, eyes only getting wetter.
Those people didn’t do anything. They didn’t deserve the pain of losing someone they loved especially like this.
Crack!
The sound of metal hitting bone knocks Aiden out of it, his eyes shutting tightly like he was bracing for impact. The sound came again, this time alongside Jinhwa grunting. And again, and again, and again.
Five hits. It was five hits exactly. The last one being the hardest. Aiden can’t hear Inseok’s rapid breathing or sobbing anymore, just Jinhwa’s labored breathing. It makes his breathing pick up, stuttering as he tries to keep himself together but unravels right there.
Aiden’s shoulders tense up, breathing becoming a lot more labored as he tries to stay as calm as he can but fails miserably. A quiet sob leaves his lips, causing him to cover his mouth tightly.
He’s never been so scared in his life. He shuts his eyes tighter in hopes it will stop. It’s all some bad dream he just needs to wake up from. He needs to wake up. He has to wake–
“Keep it together, Aiden.” Jinhwa says, again, all too casually for what just happened. It makes him swallow thickly, a shaky sob leaving his lips before he looks up. He blinks quickly, shaking his head as he lifts his chin and looks out towards where Reid is. He’s not that far but far enough and distracted enough to not know it’s over.
The first part anyways.
Silently, Aiden scrubs the concrete, the sponge Jinhwa gave him ripping and tearing as he wipes the blood away. He’ll powerwash it tomorrow. That’s the plan. Jinhwa told him so.
Aiden is a really good guy. He doesn’t have a mean bone in his body. His brain is struggling to even comprehend what just happened and what he’s doing right now.
Maybe that’s his downfall. He’s too nice. Everyone’s always told him that. That he’s too sweet and it’ll get him hurt one day.
Aiden has a spotty memory. That only starting happening when he got put into a group with Sunhee.
He can’t think about Sunhee for too long or his head starts getting light. It’s spotty. Everything about Sunhee is spotty but at the same time insanely bright and straight in his face.
It’s like he can remember, he just doesn’t want to. His brain is trying to actively forget the year he spent in the same group as Sunhee and everything she did, said, or even just what she looked like.
She had eyes like a fox and she spoke like everyone around her was stupid. That’s all he can remember of her. The rest is blurry and foggy but Aiden never thought on her long enough to clear the fog. He doesn’t really want to. He wants her to stay foggy and practically forgotten.
She’s the catalyst for all this. For everything he’s gotten involved in, everything that he’s been through, he’s seen, felt, lived––It all goes back to Sunhee.
Aiden doesn’t usually wish for people to suffer. He never does, actually. But there’s a part of him that wishes Sunhee suffered more just so she could get a taste of all the pain she put so many people through.
The spots in his brain start to burn again, forming dark pictures that slowly gain more and more exposure the more Aiden zones out. The images forming in his head make him sick. They make him feel disgusting all over like there’s a layer of filth permanently attached to his skin that he can’t wash off no matter how hard he scrubs.
There’s footsteps but Aiden doesn’t look up, just keeps doing his job. They make the images stop forming. Slowly, they dissipate from his brain and back into darkness. Aiden can’t help but to be relieved.
He sees a pair of black shoes. Shine black shoes that look like they belong to a doll. It makes him look up, eyes tired as they raise to look at the new prescene.
“Miyu,” Aiden says quietly when he sees her. Miyu swallows, looking down at the blood stained concrete.
“Who was it?” She asks, looking at Aiden’s face. She looks so calm but also sad. Miyu has sad eyes, always has, but they always had a brightness in them. Over time, the brightness dimmed. Aiden noticed. It broke his heart.
“Inseok.”
Miyu looks unmoved. She slowly gets to her knees, taking the sponge from Aiden and beginning to scrub at the concrete as well.
“Did you do it?” She asks, reaching over to dunk the sponge into a small blue bucket of water. Aiden sits on his knees, still. He shakes his head.
“No,” He simply replies. Miyu twists the sponge ringing it out, something Aiden never thought of doing. He just mindlessly scrubbed and scrubbed and scrubbed until the sponge had nothing left. A red tinged water pours out when Miyu’s nimble hands twist the sponge, filling the bucket.
“Who’s next?” Miyu wonders. Her voice is soothing. It makes this feel like a dream. Aiden watches her hands move against the concrete, the ripping out of the sponge filling the open area.
“June.”
Miyu’s scrubbing halts, staring at the ground for a few beats before looking up at Aiden.
“Can you promise me something?” Miyu requests quietly, leaning forward just a bit. Aiden leans forward as well, blinking at her as she squeezes the sponge.
“You’ll make it hurt,” She whispers. It’s the darkest and lowest Aiden’s ever hear it. It makes his throat dry as he nods slowly.
“I promise,”
He slowly puts his hands over her’s as they held tightly onto the sponge, letting his fingers gently wrap around her wrists. Miyu’s eyes stay lowered, not looking Aiden in the eye while Aiden looks at her face.
“He deserves it.” He whispers, causing her eyes to slowly look up.
She looks relieved.

WARNINGS / NOTES : They discuss murdering someone. Details of Reid’s past include bullying, physical violence, verbal abuse (described not shown), minor ableism (he implies someone is autistic in a not correct way. thought i should mention that, nothing too intense). While they don’t discuss SA it is implied that it happened. If i miss anything, please let me know!

Reid was at the top of his class in high school. Well, top seven. He was seventh out of four hundred kids in just his first year. It was a small private school where everyone knew everyone and everyone’s parents' net worth was well over one hundred thousand.
He wasn’t the nicest kid in high school. It was the crowd he surrounded himself with, at least that’s what his mother contributed to it. Reid never cared for the people he surrounded himself with back when he was in America. He honestly can’t even tell you half their names now even if he tried.
He remembers one kid’s name, Andrew. Andrew wasn’t really a part of the friend group, he was just there so the other could have someone to pick on. Reid always suspected that Andrew might not have been fully there but he could say that about most of the boys in his friend group.
Reid never liked Andrew. He annoyed the shit out of him. Andrew talked and talked and talked until someone told him to shut up or gave him a shove. They always did that, pushing him around. Andrew never fought back hard enough for them to think it was anything more than messing around. Thinking back on it, Andrew was more Reid’s punching bag than anyone else's in the group. He’d call Andrew all kinds of names, insult his family, his wealth, his intelligence, push him into the dirt, even hit him when he was angry enough.
He doesn't know why he was so angry. Andrew didn’t do anything besides be annoying and wanted to be Reid’s friend.
Three of them stayed after school one day: Reid, Andrew, and a kid named Matt. Matt was nothing notable, just some blond-haired, brown-eyed, trust fund baby whose uniform never fit right because he was too skinny. He was older though, he had a car. Reid and Andrew weren’t even fifteen yet. They were walking down one of the many stairwells, this one led out to the parking lot. They were supposed to get Mcdonalds'.
Reid remembers how Andrew kept talking, and talking, and talking. He remembers the irritation that ground his teeth together and made his face hot. He remembers ramming his shoulder into Andrew’s when they were going down a step. He remembers watching Andrew lose his balance and fall forward. He remembers how the boy tumbled and rolled down the hard granite stairs. He remembers the loud crack of Andrew’s skull hitting the ground at the bottom of the stairs.
He remembers the silence after that. It was so quiet.
Reid and Matt left Andrew there, fleeing to the older boy’s car and driving out of the parking lot as fast as they could, fearing the repercussions of what just happened.
It was an accident. A really stupid accident.
He told his parents after the news broke Andrew had brain damage and would probably never function properly ever again. Reid knew he had to get away from there, away from what he did.
That’s why he went to Korea, started schooling there, and built a new reputation for himself. Jinhwa took him in, being a close family friend way before Reid was even born, and that’s when he began training as well.
What happened to Andrew has always haunted him, fearing it will pop around the corner and will ruin everything he’s ever worked for.
It was an accident. He didn’t mean it.
Now, he sits in Jinhwa’s office, Aiden sitting in the chair beside him as Jinhwa sat in front of them. None of them say a word, especially Aiden.
Reid thinks Aiden is the weakest link of them all.
He used to think it was Miyu who was the weakest but after everything he’s learned and seen, she’s the strongest of them. Easily.
Aiden is only weak because he’s nice. He’s so nice. He lets people boss him around, tell him what to do, it’s like he’s a stupid dog who needs to be told where the food bowl is or he’d starve. There’s something endearing about his weakness, his kindness, Reid’s never met someone like that before. Deep down, Reid wishes he was more like Aiden.
“I’ve asked around,” Jinhwa says, looking at a small black notebook, sliding it over to the boys. Aiden waits for Reid’s move, not sure what his role here is supposed to be. Reid takes the book, seeing messily scrawled names that look vaguely familiar.
Reid can’t lie, he doesn’t talk to anyone in this company that isn’t in his group and even then it’s touch and go. He can go weeks without speaking to Miyu. He likes being friends with people who aren’t idols more. They’re much easier to talk to in his opinion.
“All three of those guys frequent The Blue Room every night,” Jinhwa looks between the boys as he speaks, “The attacks happen on Friday–”
“They plan that out?” Aiden interrupts, disgust on his face. Jinhwa looks equally as disgusted but nods.
“They plan everything out. Every person I’ve spoken to basically has given me the same story. They’d go to the club with Sunhee, she’d give them a drink, Inseok will come in, say he’ll help them get home, instead takes them to a back room and–” Jinhwa sighs through his nose, knowing he doesn't need to finish that sentence, they know what happens. It makes Reid’s stomach knot and twists, looking at the names then up at Jinhwa.
“So, what are we gonna do about it?” Reid asks, cocking a brow. Jinhwa looks at the boy with an impressed smile, leaning forward on the desk to rest on his forearms.
“We’re going to kill them so it stops happening,” It’s the obvious answer in Reid’s opinion. Aiden looks shocked, eyes wide as he looks between Jinhwa and Reid to gauge their reactions. They seem to be on the same page.
Maybe that’s why they got along so well.
“Why us?” Aiden asks, still stunned this was even a possibility. “I mean, like, of all the people in the company you could’ve picked to help you, why us?”
Jinhwa shrugs.
“You’re available,” He says so nonchalantly, Reid can see goosebumps blossom on Aiden’s arm. “Plus, it’s not like I can recruit any of their members to help and I don’t want to get any of my top sellers involved in this. You two already have one dead body, what’s three more?” It feels like an oddly worded threat in Reid’s opinion, making his eyes narrow as Jinhwa tilts his head at Aiden. Reid is ninety percent sure Jinhwa wouldn’t snitch on them, seeing he had a heavy hand in getting rid of the body, there’s no way.
But the way Jinhwa tilts his head and says his words so cocky and confidently, Reid isn’t too sure.
If Reid’s parents could buy their way out of Reid being involved in anything to do with Andrew’s case, Jinhwa could certainly buy his way out of being involved in Sunhee’s death.
“We’ll start with Inseok,” Jinhwa says after a few beats. Aiden swallows, looking at Reid for any sort of guidance, hoping maybe he’ll say something to get them out of this but he just waits for Jinhwa’s instructions. “He’s going on a date with his girlfriend this Tuesday night. We can get him then.”
“In front of his girlfriend? I’m not killing a girl,” Reid says sternly. Reid doesn’t mean to sound like a pick me by any means when he says he really respects women. He respects women so much, he doesn’t even speak to them unless spoken to. It’s how his mom raised him.
Jinhwa shakes his head.
“It’s Jina. She’s weak. She won’t say anything especially if I give her group a higher budget,” Jinhwa simply dismisses. Reid and Aiden finally share a look, one of uncertainty and unsure if they fully know what they’ve gotten themselves into.
“How are we–“ Aiden makes a few movements with his hands, not wanting to finish his sentence. Jinhwa looks at the boy. He looks at Aiden like he’s some pesky bug he doesn’t want to deal with but is too lazy to swat. It makes Reid straighten up, brows frowned.
Reid doesn’t know why he’s protective over Aiden, he just is. That’s his friend. He’s the little brother he never got, even if Aiden is older than him. Aiden is sweet and kind and always smiles at people, it’s just the little things about him that make Reid put his guard up.
He knows Sunhee took him to The Blue Room a few times. He knows Aiden came back acting funny. It makes bile rise in his throat at the mere thought of what could’ve happened.
Reid never pries. He doesn’t want to. The last time he pried even a little bit, he ended up sweaty and burning a body. Who knows what would happen if he finds out someone hurt Aiden.
Silently, Reid puts his hand on Aiden’s knee, squeezing gently. His dad used to do that when they were in church and Reid would get antsy, wanting to leave and play outside. It was a subtle and comforting way of saying ‘it’s almost over’
Aiden looks over at Reid, giving him a smile and taking his hand into his, squeezing as well. Reid knows Aiden means well by it but Reid hates it. It’s too much, too loud, it makes him swallow but forces a smile anyways, pulling his hand back into his lap.
“Probably use a bat–”
“Jesus,” Aiden whispers, rubbing his temples, Reid looks unsure, shaking his head as he looks at Jinhwa.
“It’s too similar to Sunhee,” Reid adds, “They’ll connect it. Plus, we’re doing this in a somewhat public space. The mess would be too much. We need something cleaner.”
Jinhwa smiles. He almost looks proud.
“Smart boy,” He taps his desk before nodding, “Always thinking.” Jinhwa leans back, shrugging as his chair rocks back and forth. “We’ll figure something out. What’s meant to happen will happen,” Jinhwa says cryptically, causing Aiden’s brows to knit and Reid’s stomach to twist.
Jinhwa hits the desk gently, snapping his fingers and turning his attention down to his phone.
“Meet me here tomorrow. Same time. We’ll talk more then,” He says as he stands, shoving his phone in his pocket and swiping a pair of car keys from the hook they hung on. “I have to get my son from school. See you two then.” It’s never a question with Jinhwa. The pair silently agree, standing as well and following the man out.
Reid watches Jinhwa lock the door and go towards the elevator but instead he takes the stairs. Reid notes that. He looks at Aiden, who looks like he’s about to throw up.
Reid’s never been good at comforting people. He pats Aiden’s back a few times before letting his arm fall to his side.
“Wanna, uh, make hot cocoa back at the dorm?”
Aiden looks at Reid like he’s crazy.
“We’re involved in a murder plot and you want to make hot coco?”
He doesn’t really want to make hot cocoa, he just knows Aiden likes it and maybe it’ll make him feel better. Reid shrugs.
“If it’ll, like, make you feel better,” Reid says, causing Aiden to soften. He’s easy to soften, he’s a really nice guy. Reid forces the smallest of smiles, looking the boy over before putting his hand on his shoulder, squeezing.
“We’re gonna get through this,” Reid tells the younger quietly, who looks in his eyes with a fear he’s been hiding this whole time, taking a deep breath through his nose. Slowly, Aiden nods, exhaling a breath he’s been holding for what seems like forever. Reid can see the tears brim Aiden’s eyes, causing him to shake his head.
“Don’t cry,” Reid says sternly. Aiden silently nods, holding his breath again to keep his tears from falling. His hands are shaking. Reid squeezes the boy’s shoulder again, shaking him slightly. “There’s no reason to cry, Aiden. It’s going to be fine.”
“I don’t,” Aiden takes a few deep breaths, keeping his eyes on the ground before looking at Reid. He looks helpless, like a small deer that sees the headlights in front of them but doesn’t know whether to stay or run. “I don’t wanna kill anyone, Reid.” He somehow manages to get out.
Reid doesn’t know what to say. There’s nothing he can say. He doesn’t have control over this situation, Jinhwa does. There’s a small pang of fear that twinges inside him when he thinks of what Jinhwa would do to Aiden if he heard him talking like this. Reid doesn’t want to believe Jinhwa is some psychopathic killer that just kills for the fun of it.
“Just
We’ll get through it together,” Reid says with a nod, holding gently onto Aidan’s arm. Aiden swallows, looking up at Reid, nodding a little bit. He doesn’t look too sure, but he still nods.
Reid isn’t too sure either.

WARNINGS / NOTES : This piece is about the disposing of a dead body and has heavy implications of a past sexual assault and the trauma that she deals with because of that. There is brief mentions of blood and drugging, cursing, slapping, and the burning of a body though there aren’t any vivid descriptions of that. Please take care of yourself and know your limits before proceeding to read!

Miyu doesn’t remember that night well at all and for that she’s greatful.
She does remember how it started and the end of it. She remembers faces and names and the place but she doesn’t remember the middle. The biggest chunk of that night has been long locked away in the deep corner of her brain, too traumatic for her to handle so her brain doesn’t let her. Her brain works overtime to keep those memories repressed and hidden.
Miyu isn’t sure if she’s grateful for that or not.
On one hand, she’s grateful to not remember the violence that happened to her body, but at the same time she wishes she did, so could assure herself she wasn’t making it up or that it was just some horrible dream.
From the bits she does remember, she knows it’s neither of those. She knows what happened to her and she knows who did it.
She knows what it caused too. It keeps her awake, knowing what happened to her caused such a domino effect in the world around her.
It’s almost funny, how the violence that happened to her bled into her everyday life so violently.
Miyu stares down at Sunhee’s crumpled body on the deserted road as her and Aiden sit on the ground outside his car. She’s dead. She’s been dead for thirty minutes now. They almost handled the body themselves but called their boss, Jinhwa, instead, knowing he’d know exactly what to do.
And it doesn’t hurt to have a billionaire CEO as your accomplice.
“I don’t usually say things like this,” Aiden starts, “But she deserved it.”
“Yeah, the vapid bitch did,” Jieun says much more crudely from inside the car, wiping the blood and tears from her face as she looks into Aiden’s rearview mirror. Aiden looks at the youngest then back at Miyu.
“She’s not wrong,” Aiden agrees. On any other occasion, Miyu would’ve laughed but there’s a dead body in front of her and blood on her face. She can’t bring herself to even smile. Aiden gets it, so he just silently puts his arm around the eldest shoulders, pulling her close with a deep breath.
Miyu only likes the touch of certain people now, getting sick to her stomach if someone she doesn’t live with even reaches out to touch her. Aiden’s touch is different though. Aiden’s touch would never intend harm, only softness and fondness.
He’s a good guy. Way too good to be mixed in with the likes of people like the rest of them.
There’s headlights in the distance, causing Reid to get out of the car and look out at it with a cautious look. It’s a dirt road in the middle of the night, no one is going to go down it unless they’re told to, but still his guard can’t help but to be on high alert.
It’s obviously been a stressful night.
A black car rolls up behind Aiden’s white one. Miyu doesn’t know a lot about cars but this one looks rich and expensive. Aiden’s is just any old car. Jinhwa steps out of the car, it clicks why it looks so expensive, sighing deeply through his nose when he sees Sunhee’s body. He doesn’t look upset, angry, or even sad, he doesn’t show much of any emotion, just observes as he rubs his chin in thought.
He looks up and the first person he sees is Reid, he looks at him then at Sunhee’s body, raising his brows.
“She’s forsure dead?” Jinhwa asks. Reid nods silently, the rest of the group watching the two interact. They’re a weird pair. Both cold and detached from the traumatic situation at hand, both seemingly more annoyed than upset at the situation. Jinhwa huffs, kneeling down next to Sunhee’s body and rolling her from her side to her back, grunting when he sees the head wound that ended her life.
“Damn,” Jinhwa mutters, “Which one of you did it?”
Everyone is silent. Aiden looks at Jieun. Jieun looks at Miyu. Miyu looks at Reid. Reid looks at Aiden. No one says a word, causing Jinhwa to look around at each member of the group before landing on Jieun, raising his brows and pointing at her.
“You got blood on your face–”
“It splattered on me,” Jieun sharply interjects, defensive. Jinhwa hums at that, looking back at Sunhee before sighing.
“Whatever. We can figure that out later,” The man stands, pointing to Aiden and Reid. “You two, carrying her to my trunk. Miyu,” He points to the girl on the ground, who looks up with a small sniffle, “You’re gonna follow behind me and we’re going to dump her body somewhere else,” Miyu swallows but nods, standing from her spot, bringing Aiden up with her. Jinhwa looks around before back at the group, raising his brows.
“Where is it?” He asks. Aiden looks at him, confused.
“Where’s what?”
“The muder weapon,” Jinhwa says bluntly like it’s obvious. Aiden looks at Reid, who sighs, walking off the road slightly, just a little into the woods to grab a thick heavy log. There’s blood on it, it’s especially clear when Reid lifts it and it’s illuminated by the moonlight. Jinhwa makes a sound of interest, taking the log from the boy and examining it, brows raising.
“Interesting,” Jinhwa says quietly, looking at the group before looking back at the log. “Easy to get rid of though. We’ll just burn it with the rest of them,” Jinhwa says too nonchalantly, making Miyu close her eyes tightly, head pounding because of how she just wants this night to end.
It’s only just begun.
Jieun drives instead of Miyu. It's silently agreed upon that Miyu is in no condition to drive even if it’s only a few minutes away.
Jieun swallows, looking over at Miyu who stares out her window, arms crossed across her body like she’s cradling herself. She does that when she’s nervous. It makes Jieun take one hand off the wheel and on her knee, taking a deep breath.
“It wasn’t your fault,” Jieun says, “She shouldn’t have said what she said. That was fucked up of her–”
“It’s fucked up to kill someone,” Miyu says quietly. Jieun looks over at the elder, shaking her head before looking back at the road.
“Not people like Sunhee,” Jieun says sternly, “People like her deserve to die. All those people involved in that–” Jieun shakes her head, too disgusted to even finish that sentence. “They’ll get what’s coming. They’ll get what they deserve when we tell Jinhwa–”
“I don’t want to tell Jinhwa, Jieun.”
“I get what happened to you was really fucked up, Mi, but you have to think–”
“I don’t want to! I don’t want to talk about it anymore! Please!” Miyu pleas, looking at the younger with owlishly wide eyes as her heartbeat begins to pick up again. She feels sick again, just as the feeling was starting to calm down it picks back up again when she’s reminded of what happened to her. Jieun looks at her friend for a few beats, sighing before she nods looking back at the road.
“I’m sorry,” Jieun utters, swallowing as she watches the back of Jinhwa’s car, following it closely.
The car is silent for a few minutes before Miyu looks at Jieun then back at the car in front of us.
“He killed Seungwon, you know? After what he heard about Mihee,” Jieun tells Miyu, her eyes never leaving the road. “You’re not the only one that group targeted, Mi. And you’re most certainly not the last.”
Miyu knows that. She knows that too well. The plan was way too orchestrated, too well done, to be the group’s first time doing it. She also knows about Mihee because of the “evaluation meeting” Jinhwa called them both last month. Jinhwa was a good interrogator, breaking Mihee down in a matter of minutes into telling him what happened to her and who did it. Her wounds were old, the fear was weathered, Miyu’s wounds were still fresh and the fear still dug its talons into her back, never releasing her.
She never told him what happened to her, not expecting much to be done. Miyu thought maybe a police report would be filed at the very most but, no, two days later Seungwon was found dead in a ditch. The reports said he was beaten to death and there were no leads, but Miyu knew. She knew it was Jinhwa. Anyone with a brain could figure that out. Jinhwa is a rich and powerful man, he could get away with anything he wants.
Even then, Miyu’s too scared to tell him who hurt her. Who took away her peaceful nights and ability to look in the mirror without feeling sick.
“You don’t get it, Jieun,” Miyu whispers, biting her thumbnail as the dark forest slowly strolls beside their car, offering Miyu an eerie calmness. “It’s not that easy. It just isn’t.”
“Then let me tell him.”
“I don’t want people to know! That’s the issue, Ji!” Miyu snaps, voice rising as she looks at the younger with a bewildered expression. Jieun makes a face, never looking away from the road. Jinhwa’s car slightly turns right, beginning to drive into a wooded area. Jieun silently follows, the car jostling them around as she does so.
“He’ll look at me different.”
“No, he won’t. He’d help you,” Jieun says seriously, slowly bringing the car to a stop, turning to look at Miyu once she parks it. “And he’d kill June. Just like he deserves.”
Miyu stares at Jieun for a few beats, eyes wide and full of angst before she reaches up and slaps her across the face. Jieun gasps as her head jerks to the side. Miyu breathes deeply through her nose, feeling her throat get tight and breathing getting hard.
Just hearing his name kicks in her fight or flight, fingers trembling.
“Don’t say his name to me,” Miyu says sternly, pointing at the younger. Jieun looks at Miyu’s hand to see her shaking, looking up at her friend’s face with a thick swallow. “Never do that again.”
Jieun takes a deep breath, looking at Miyu with a small nod.
“Okay. I’m sorry.”
Miyu sighs off the girl’s apology, quickly unbuckling and getting out of the car with a deep breath through her nose as she wipes under her eyes and walks towards the other car. Aiden gets out of the back seat, closing the door and quickly walking to Miyu, putting his hand out to her. She takes it with a weak smile, feeling him squeeze her hand as he looks down at her, examining her face.
“You okay?” Aiden asks. It’s a stupid question, really. Of course, she’s not okay. Look where they are. They’re in some field in the middle of nowhere about to dispose of the body of their co-worker. How the fuck was she supposed to be okay?
But it’s Aiden. Aiden means well always. He’s special.
Miyu swallows, not wanting to tell him about the conversation she just had with Jieun.
“I guess,” Miyu whispers. Aiden nods in understanding, looking at their hands before looking at Miyu’s face. He looks guilty, tilting his head a bit at her before brushing a piece of hair out of her face. She almost flinches but holds herself back, knowing it would make Aiden feel like garbage if she did that. She sighs looking off to see Reid and Jinhwa opening the trunk, Jinhwa bossing the other boy around. They’re too far away for Miyu to hear what they’re saying but she can see Reid roll his eyes, leaning down into the trunk.
“It’s gonna be okay,” Aiden says to her gently, causing Miyu to look back at him, swallowing.
“Is it?” She whispers. Aiden doesn’t respond for a few beats, opening his mouth to say something when Jinhwa yells from the car.
“Aiden! Get over here and help,” Jinhwa calls out before pointing to Miyu, “Miyu, you and Jieun get the fire ready. Go out a few yards and we’ll meet you there,” Jinhwa instructs simply. Miyu looks at Aiden, giving his hand a tight squeeze as he gives her a comforting look.
She drops his hand first.
Miyu’s always hated fire. She hates everything about it. The smoke, the smell, the heat, it all makes her miserable but there’s something beautiful about this fire they all sit and watch burn.
It’s big with ribbons of red and orange flicking up into the air and dissolving once they reach their peak. The smoke is thick and black, leaving a long trail in the now technicolored sky. The sun is rising. Miyu’s eyes are heavy and the grass beneath her feels oddly soft under her fingertips.
A body is burning in front of her and all she can think about is going to sleep. Was she always meant to end up like this? A killer? Why wasn’t she thinking about Sunhee and her family? How her mother would cry over the loss of her daughter. She helped burn someone’s daughter and all she wants to do is go to sleep.
Maybe Jieun was right. Maybe Miyu has detached herself from this because Sunhee deserved it.
People like Sunhee deserved to die. People like Sunhee deserved to be killed on the side of the road. People like Sunhee deserved to burn in a pile of dry firewood drenched in gasoline.
Miyu swallows, looking over at Jieun who looked equally as detached from the situation. They all do. Except for Aiden, he looks distraught as he stares at the brightly burning fire that consumes someone he used to call his friend.
What hurts Miyu the most is the thought of hurting people who cared about Sunhee. People like Aiden. Aiden didn’t deserve this pain, this guilt. He’s done nothing but be a good person only to get handed this.
Miyu looks at Reid, the only one standing up, leaning against a tree not far from the fire. He just blinks at the sight, lips quirking to the side before he looks up at Miyu. The pair make eye contact for a few beats before he looks away and at the ground.
It hits her that they know what happened to her. What Sunhee did and what Sunhee allowed to happen to her. It makes her sick. She knows they’ll look at her differently now. They’ll see her as some fragile glass figurine that shouldn’t be touched or looked at in fear it might break.
Miyu’s not weak. She’s never been weak. It only happened because she was drugged and couldn’t fight back. She replays that night if she wasn’t paralyzed by whatever was slipped into her drink. How she would’ve kicked and screamed, she would’ve overpowered the men that towered over her, and she would’ve run as fast as she could to the exit. She’d leave that club and never go back. She’d leave the same person she went in.
But that’s not what happened.
Miyu knows she’s not weak but now that people know this horrible thing that happened to her, that’s all they’ll see her as. Her greatest fear is never shaking that and becoming just that. Weak.
Miyu swallows looking over at Jinhwa, who sits leaning against a tree trunk, eyes bored as he watches the fire rage one.
Miyu’s not weak.
“I did it,” Miyu says, breaking the silence. Everyone’s head turns towards her when she speaks, Jaehwa making a small sound, nodding. He’s calm.
“Why?” He asks.
Miyu takes a deep breath. It feels like it’s only them but there are three other pairs of eyes on them, watching the two closely.
“She roofied me,” Miyu answers, “She helped people assault me.”
Aiden cringes at the way she says it, looking down at the ground. Reid’s jaw tenses as he looks at the ground as well. Jieun bites the inside of her cheek, never letting her eyes leave Miyu.
Jinhwa tenses at that as well, looking upset and angry. He looks so angry but not at Miyu, he looks at the fire in disgust then back at Miyu.
She’s never said that out loud before. She doesn’t think she wants to again but this is the only time she feels disconnected from reality long enough to do it.
“Her and Jieun were fighting. Jieun brought it up. Sunhee said I had it coming,” Miyu feels her eyes get wet at that. Everyone is looking at her now, hanging onto every word. “I don’t even remember grabbing the log I just remember swinging and the cracking sound when I hit her,” Miyu feels her bottom lip trembled as hot tears run down her cheeks. Jieun’s crying too, silently and hiding her face. “Then she was dead.”
Reid’s dark brows pinch together as he swallows, looking at the grass.
Aiden is silent, trying to keep everything inside to keep the attention off of him.
“She blamed me for Seunwon’s death too,” Miyu adds after a few beats, causing Jinhwa to look up again. “Yelled at me about that before she and Jieun got back into it,” She and Jinhwa lock eyes.
“I know you killed him.”
A pause.
“I did,” Jinhwa says, voice rough. “I’d do it again.”
A silence.
“Was he the one who–”
“No,” Miyu answers sharply, feeling that fear claw its way back up her throat, nearly taking her voice from her. Jieun stares at her, hoping the words come out. Miyu is more scared vomit will come out than words.
She swallows it down, brows knitting as she opens her mouth to say his name but nothing comes out. Tears stream down her face, a tight sob leaving her lips before she looks down.
Aiden silently moves towards her, putting his hand on her back, rubbing large circles to try and soothe her. Jinhwa looks choked up at the girl’s reaction, rubbing his face with a deep breath.
No one says anything. The only sound is the trees and the fire. Miyu lets out a loud sob, covering her face as she cries. She’s so scared of someone who isn’t anywhere near her right now. She’s terrified if she says his name it’ll summon him and he’ll throw her in that fire as well.
It’s debilitating. She fears she’ll never be free from this. There’s so much fear inside her, she can’t stand it.
“Who was it Miyu,” Jinhwa asks calmly, trying to keep his composure. Miyu shakes her head, keeping her face covered as Aiden gently pulls her up and into his arms, holding her protectively to his chest.
“He said he’d kill me. I can’t. I can’t–”
“I won't let that–”
“Can this wait?” Aiden interrupts with a sharp tongue, giving Jinhwa a glare that makes the man stop talking. “It upsets her. She’s clearly upset. Don’t push her.” Aiden’s never used such a harsh tone on anyone before, let alone his boss.
Jinhwa backs down though, nodding at Aiden’s words in agreement.
“You’re right,” Jinhwa says, causing Aiden to give him a look over, feeling Miyu hold tighter onto his torso. “I’m sorry.”
That’s the first time any of them ever heard the man apologize.
The dusk blends into a morning sky and the fire has died and been brought back to life multiple times now. Aiden, Miyu, and Reid went to sleep in Aiden’s car, leaving just Jinhwa and Jieun and a dying fire.
Jinhwa says three full burn cycles do the trick usually. Jieun doesn’t want to know how he knows that’s.
She’s never had a personal relationship with her boss like some at the company do. She’s just there to work, not be best friends with the man who signs her paycheck.
The only reason she didn’t go back to the car with the others is that she knew what she had to do.
It’s the right thing to do, Jieun tells herself as she watches the fire slowly shrink, trying to get the words out.
“Mister Son–” Jieun starts but Jinhwa waved his hand in the air, silencing her.
“Jinhwa, please. I helped you get rid of a body.”
He has a point.
“Jinhwa,” The name feels so weird coming off her tongue, “I
I know who hurt Miyu,” Jinhwa’s interest is piqued, causing him to raise his brows at the girl, who looks unsure if she should go on.
It had to be done. Who knows what girl is next. Who knows if they only target girls, they could target boys as well, everyone is at risk if those scumbags get to walk free.
Jieun normally wouldn’t go against Miyu’s wishes, especially over something so personal and dark as this, but all Jieun can think about is some clueless girl walking into The Blue Room and being their next victim.
She can’t let that happen. She can’t.
“They
They have a little group. Seungwon and Sunhee were in it,” She starts, taking a deep breath, “But June is the one who attacked Miyu,” Jieun whispers his name like it’s a curse. It is a curse. He’s an abomination whose name should never be uttered.
“Is he the only one in this group?” Jinhwa asks. Jieun shakes her head.
“Hyunwoo is in it and so is Inseok,” Jieun tells him, “They’ve been doing it for years. I can’t–I can’t sleep thinking about all the people they’ve probably hurt,” Jieun whispers, feeling her eyes get hot and brim with tears.
“It has to stop,” Jieun whispers. Jinhwa nods, jaw clenched tight and eyes locked on the grass before he looks up at the girl.
“It will.”

004 . . . . . .  (  A BURNING HILL.  )
I think I’m finally worn. For you have a way of promising things and I’ve been a forest fire. I am a forest fire and I am the fire and I am the forest and I am a witness watching it. I stand in a valley watching it and you are not there at all.
CHARACTERS :   REID  . . .   JIEUN
WORDS : 3k
WARNINGS / NOTES : Discussions of Murder. Blood. Angst. Kissing. No notes besides this chapter is a filler to take a lil break from the murder haha. Anyways, enjoy!
Tumblr media
Reid silently watches Jieun as she uses a wet cloth to wipe the blood from his hands. Her touch isn't gentle but neither is the washcloth. Reid’s hands look like they’ve fought wars with scars scattered on his knuckles and calluses decorating his palms. Roughness doesn’t phase him. It’s comforting.
“Who did it?” Jieun asks, leaning closer as she scrubs his nail beds harshly, digging into the crevices on the side to get the blood out from under there. Reid flinches softly at the pinching sensation, clearing his throat.
“I did.”
“Did you make it hurt?” Jieun asks, flipping the rag over to clean his other nails. Reid looks at Jieun’s face, looking for any sign of fear or concern on her face. There’s only concentration.
“Yeah,” Reid says lowly, “That’s why there’s such a mess.”
“Did you slit his throat?” Jieun asks. It makes Reid almost uneasy how casual she is about the whole thing.
Reid knows what he didn’t wasn’t wrong. June had it coming. They had it coming. Still, he took a life and has been present for when others have taken lives, it’s not something he feels he can talk about freely like Jieun does. Talking about it makes it real.
“I cut his tongue out,” Reid says, trying to sound dry but there is a pang of guilt in there. Jieun looks up at Reid’s face, her eyes unreadable as she swallows. Reid looks in her eyes for a few beats before she swallows, slowly lifting the rag from his hand to his face. The coldness of the water startles him, making his body jolt slightly towards her before they both freeze, staring at one another for a few beats.
Jieun’s touch suddenly turns gentle when she wipes the blood from Reid’s face, no haste or harshness just softness and carefulness.
“Did he cry?” Jieun asks in a whisper. Reid nods, looking down in exhaustion, sighing as she rubs gentle circles on his cheek.
“He cried for his mom,” Reid tells her, feeling something rise in his throat as he looks away, blinking hard a few times. He’s never been one to talk about his feelings, obviously, but something about where he is, who he’s with, what’s happening, it’s like his body is begging him to say something to relieve just even a sliver of the weight that was crushing his shoulders. Reid itches the inner corner of his eye before shutting them, trying to hold it all back.
It hurts. All at once, it hurts.
“I felt bad,” Reid whispers, feeling like acid is coming up his throat with each word, causing his eyes to shut and face to pinch. Jieun lets the rag fall from her hand, letting it land into Reid’s lap as her hand takes his cheek into her hand, stroking softly with her thumb. It’s the gentlest Reid’s ever seen Jieun, he didn’t think she had any gentleness in her especially now. Reid presses the tips of his fingers against his shut eyes so hard he starts seeing stars and bursts of colors behind his lids.
“God, I feel so bad, Jieun,” Reid says with a shaky breath, feeling her arms wrap around his torso. One of her hands reaches up, threading through his silky hair to put his head down into her shoulder. He lets her hands guide him, soothe him, as his arms wrap around her as well, pulling her closer.
Reid wasn’t held a lot as a child or ever really. He always had the belief his mom didn’t want him. He just sort of happened. His dad couldn’t wait for a son, only so he could have someone to pass the business down to. He never was really dad. Not in Reid’s opinion.
He can’t remember the last time he’s been touched softly by someone. His recent days have been covered in blood and violence, he feels that’s all he’s capable of now.
It makes him sick.
He swallows thickly, his shaking hands holding tightly onto Jieun’s shirt. Jieun rests her chin on his shoulder. She doesn’t look at herself in the mirror, her eyes cast down towards the sink as her fingers massage his scalp softly.
“Come on, honey,” Jieun whispers as she helps him off the sink, releasing him for a few moments to help him down before they’re wrapped tightly in one another again. Reid can’t detach himself from her now that he’s felt her gentle touch. Jieun makes a small sound of shock at how quickly he wraps himself around her again, wrapping her arms around his waist nonetheless.
“You need to shower,” Jieun whispers, turning her face to have her lips hovering over the shell of his ear. Reid knows she’s right but if he lets go of her, he’s sure he’ll crumble right there and burst into tears. Jieun feels like the weakening glue keeping him from crying, the last thing he wants to do in front of anyone.
“I can help you,” Jieun assures, rubbing his back gently, feeling Reid press his face harder into her shoulder. His grip hurts and weighs her down but she can’t let herself let him go. She doesn’t want to. “I’ll help you, Sangwon.”
Reid holds her a bit tighter at that, feeling the strings begin to unravel inside him, leaving him nothing but a pile of tangled red strings that will be impossible to untangle. He feels unfixable.
Jieun slowly pushes him back but keeps her hands on his arms, letting him know she isn’t going anywhere. Silently, Reid nods, taking a deep breath as she lets go of his arms to gently take the hem of his shirt between her fingers, pulling up slightly.
Jieun’s never seen a naked man before. She always thought the first time she saw one, she’d be disgusted and turn away in disgust, but seeing Reid naked didn’t feel gross or wrong like she thought it would. It felt natural. She doesn’t feel weird or have any knots in her stomach, she feels fine.
She silently washes Reid’s body, cleaning him with warm water and gentle scrubs until there isn’t a speck of blood or dirt on him. His arms are scratched to all hell, red and irritated, so she’s even gentler when she gets to them, just letting the water run over them. She watches Reid’s muscles tense when she does that so she puts a soothing hand on his back, rubbing the tense muscles gently.
Jieun sits on the side of the tub, looming over Reid as she looks at his sweaty hair. There’s blood caking the locks together, making her sigh softly, leaning down to get closer to his face.
“Do you want me to wash your hair?” Jieun asks, causing Reid to look up at her. The tips of their noses touch but neither one of them recoil. Jieun’s eyes never leave Reid’s as the boy slowly nods, leaning forwards just slightly to bump their foreheads together. It's gentle and sweet, a side Jieun has rarely seen.
She bumps her forehead against his as well, forcing herself to smile. It feels like the corners of her mouth are weighed down because of how heavy the entire situation is. Reid forces a smile back as she pulls away, letting the washcloth soak up the warm water before she lifts it out of the water and over his head, ringing it out so the water drenches his thick black locks.
Jieun scrubs the shampoo into Reid’s scalp, her lilac manicured nails grazing and scratching the skin so soothingly, Reid can’t help but let his eyes shut in peace. His hand holds onto the side of the tub, head bobbing slightly as she scrubs the shampoo in some more. The calmly sound of foamy soap filled his ears.
He feels like he could fall asleep. More warm water drapes over him, cleansing him again but this time of the soap in his hair. It takes a few pours for all of it to get out and then Jieun moves onto the conditioner which isn’t half as relaxing as the deep shampooing was.
Jieun lets the conditioner sit, leaning forward to scrub gently at the boy’s chest. There are many scratches and bruises littering Reid’s chest. She wonders how much of a fight June put up, she wonders how much pain he was in, she wonders how much pain Reid was in, how much pain he is in. It’s not fair Reid has to suffer for doing the right thing.
Reid’s eyes stay ahead of him until her hand runs over where his heart is. He looks up at the side of her face, watching her closely as she takes care of him so gently.
“Thank you,” Reid says quietly, causing Jieun to look at him, blinking a few times before nodding.
“Anything for you,” She tells him earnestly, both of their eyes remaining locked for a few beats before she pulls back, going to wash the conditioner out of his hair.
Jieun wraps Reid in a white towel, letting him tie it around his waist as she gently rubs his hair dry with a softer towel, laughing through her nose at the face Reid makes when she does so.
Jieun sleeps with Reid that night. He asked her to. The first time she’s ever slept with a man. She wonders if it’s Reid’s first time sleeping with a woman or with anyone by how stiff he lays beside her.
“Thanks for sleeping with me,” Reid says quietly, looking at Jieun then at the ceiling again. Jieun glances beside her then back at the ceiling as well, her hands folded on her chest.
“No problem,” Jieun replies. She can’t figure out if it’s okay for her to roll on her side facing Reid or not facing him. Again, she’s never done this before. She has no idea what she’s doing.
She can hear Reid swallow beside her, the sheets shifting as he rolls on his side, facing away from her. Jieun looks at Reid’s back, turning towards him. It’s awkward but Jieun doesn’t feel uncomfortable. It’s Reid. She’s never felt uncomfortable with Reid.
Slowly, she reaches out to rub his back, maybe offer some more comfort than just being there, hit Reid flinches causing Jieun to pull her hand back quickly, fingers curling into a fist.
“Sorry,” Jieun whispers. Reid shakes his head, keeping his back towards her as he speaks.
“It’s okay,” Reid tells her, looking back and over his shoulder before looking back at his wall. “You can touch me. I’m sorry about that.”
“Don’t be,” Jieun says, shaking her head as she reaches out again and places her hand on the center of his back, spreading her fingers out and rubbing up and down slowly. Reid leans back into her touch, causing her to move closer, resting her cheek on his back as she continues to rub his back gently.
Jieun feels a tightness in her chest at the closeness she’s experiencing right now. She’s never been this close to anyone, she can feel the warmth of Reid’s skin under his t-shirt and if she focuses hard enough, she can hear his heart beating what feels like a beat too fast.
The silence feels deafening, suffocating, it makes breathing a bit harder. Jieun doesn’t understand it, she’s never felt anything like it before and she can’t tell if she hates it or loves it.
Suddenly, Reid rolls over, wrapping his arms around her torso and pulling her close, their chests bumping together before crashing their lips together. Jieun lets out a small shocked sound, grabbing his waist and holding him tightly when his weight shifts slightly on top of her. It’s a firm and hard kiss, one Jieun isn’t sure how to navigate so she pulls away, gasping once her lips are away from Reid’s.
The pair lock eyes, her’s wide and his hooded but his breathing just as heavy.
“Was that–”
“I’ve never done that before,” Jieun admits, bewildered. Reid looks down at her, blinking a few times before his brows knit together.
“You’ve never–”
“I never kissed anyone before,” Jieun admits with rushed words, watching Reid’s brows shoot up in shock. She doesn’t know why he’s that surprised, where else would that be going? She gives him an annoyed look at his shock, causing Reid to shrug, putting on a casual look.
She knows it’s embarrassing to haven’t kissed someone by 22. She knows but it should only be embarrassing to her, no one else. Jieun spent her whole life training or working, if she wasn’t doing one of those things she was alone. Not many people wanted to talk to her or be her friend let alone date her.
She gets it but it still hurts to think about.
“Not a big deal,” Reid shrugs. Jieun shrugs in return.
“Yeah,” She says quietly, “Not at all.”
A question still burns in her mind as she stares up at Reid, looking over his face before locking on his eyes.
“Why’d you do it?” She asks. Reid stares back at her, dark eyes looking over her feline features before resting on her eyes.
“It felt right,” He replies. Jieun isn’t fully satisfied with that answer, wanting something else from the boy, something more. She doesn’t ask for it though. Not now anyway, it doesn’t feel right when she thinks about all the prior events to this.
She can ask next week when the memory of her washing blood off of him is less fresh and more faded.
Quietly, Jieun lifts her hand that lays flat on the bed, taking the side of his face into her palm, thumb stroking his sharp cheekbone as their eyes watch each other carefully as if they aren’t sure what the other will do next. She swallows, letting her hand fall from his face and onto his shoulder then trailing down his arm, feeling the raised and irritated skin from the scratches that marked his skin.
“Anything with you feels right,” Reid whispers after a few beats of silence, causing Jieun’s eyes to soften as they fall from his face to his collarbones.
There’s another silence, one that is only filled by the rustling of sheets and the ceiling fan clicking.
Jieun’s eyes look back up at Reid’s face, lips turning up into a soft smile, watching him do the same. Carefully, Reid leans down again to let his lips press against her forehead. Jieun crosses her eyes to look up at him. He’s gentle, really gentle, a lot more than she ever expected someone like Reid to be.
He pulls away with a small smack when his lips part from her skin, leaning down to press his forehead against hers softly, taking a deep breath through his nose. His eyes are shut as she watches him, her hands gently rubbing his biceps softly. She wonders what he’s thinking, what his mind is like.
She can’t even begin to imagine.
With uncertainty, she puts her hand on his cheek, watching him lean into her palm with another deep breath.
“Thank you,” Reid breathes out as he kisses the inside of her palm. Slowly, Jieun pushes herself up to lean up on her elbows, letting their noses brush against one another for a beat before guiding him down so their lips collide again, causing him to groan softly into her mouth. She pulls back as the kiss deepens, watching him chase her lips with his before holding himself back, letting her take control.
She watches him carefully before leaning in again, taking his lips into hers again, resting her hand on the back of his neck, slowly pulling him down on top of her once again as she lays back on his pillow.
Reid holds tightly onto her torso when their bodies press against each other again. He deepens the kiss when they’re pressed against one another again, moving his lips against her’s so gently and slowly, holding her waist a bit tighter before sliding up to hold the side of her face again.
Reid bites her bottom lip softly, eliciting a small gasp from Jieun as she holds tightly onto his shirt. Reid hums against her lips, thumb stroking under her jaw before pulling back to look down at her with heavy-lidded eyes.
Jieun thinks he’s never looked prettier.
“So soft,” Reid whispers, nuzzling his nose against hers gently. Jieun’s eyes shut when he does that, her hand resting on his bicep to run her nails up and down the skin there. “And so pretty.”
“Stop,” Jieun whispers, feeling a smile form on her lips at the compliment. Reid smiles at her, leaning in to kiss the apples of her cheeks softly before pecking her lips, kissing her just to kiss her.
It makes Jieun’s chest glow. She feels like she could fly right now. It’s such an odd feeling.
“Thank you,” Reid whispers again, eyes shutting blissfully as Jieun watches him. He looks at ease, peaceful even, it makes Jieun’s heart happy.
Jieun takes a deep breath, nodding before dropping her hand and guiding him off from on top of her to where he’s beside her again. He wraps himself around her wordlessly, resting his head on her chest before turning his face in to kiss the skin there. Jieun feels a wave of anxiousness wash over her, causing her to rest her hand on the back of his neck and gently squeeze.
“You need to sleep, love,” Jieun whispers to him, feeling him nod wordlessly against her skin, turning his face to where his cheek is now pressed against her skin, lips faintly grazing over where he rests.
“Thank you so much, Jieun.” Reid mumbles, voiced weighed with heaviness and tiredness as his eyes slowly shut, letting sleep take hold of him before he could hear response. Jieun looks down, stroking his dark hair gently before her hand rests on his back.
“Don’t mention it.”

flashback for miyu!!
## EVIDENCE 004 –– SIX MONTHS PRIOR
miyu hates clubs. she doesn't know why she let sunhee drag her here. she usually asks if miyu wants to go to the blue room with her, let loose a little, but tonight she was extra persistent to the point where miyu felt like she couldn't say no.
now, sunhee's gone and miyu is just sitting on some beat up couch, nose buried in her phone, texting sunhee to find out where the hell she went.
"you look lonely," miyu hears from in front of her, causing her to look up with wide and scared eyes. she doesn't know the guy, but she's seen him before. he's from her company, but she can't pick out where or what group. he's cute at least but there's still something about him that makes miyu's senses alight, telling her something is off with him.
maybe it was the creepy opening line he chose. maybe miyu is just overthinking.
"oh–um–i'm just waiting for my friend," miyu says giving the boy a polite smile. he smiles back, nodding.
"who's your friend?" she wants him to stop talking to her. she has no want or need to make friends with random people from the blue room. she's too nice to tell him to fuck off though.
"sunhee."
"oh i know where she is," the boy says, nodding back towards the back. it looks dark and unknown. it puts a weird feeling in her gut. she looks around for any familiar face. she sees none. it makes her begin to fidget. "i can take you to her."
miyu shakes her head.
"i'm good. thank you though," miyu says, hoping her voice is strong and hard like she wants it to be. the boy's mouth twitches at that, looking down at miyu. she feels like he's staring at her like she's a piece of meat.
she stares right back, almost like she's challenging him.
"that's fine," he says suddenly shifting tones and putting on a friendly smile, "i'm june by the way. i'll be back there if you get lonely or need to find sunhee."
miyu just nods at his words, ducking her head back down to text jieun now. she can hear him walk away, thankfully.
she feels uneasy.

ok im so curious like so is this whole murder case public? so like
what are their families and others in bambiverse think abt it ?!?! 👀👀
Tumblr media
CURRENTLY, the investigation is ON GOING and SEMI-PUBLIC. However, due to the case being on going major details have been withheld from the public. Everyone, especially those under ANGELICO, is aware of the case and have their own opinions on the case, varying all over the spectrum.
SUNHEE'S FAMILY has been rather silent about the case, asking the public to let them grieve instead of bombarding them with questions. They have only made two public appearances since her death and only made a handful of statements.
While ANGELICO artists discuss the case behind the scenes, they NEVER have brought it up publicly. The only artists under the label to say something about her passing were her former CHERI members. It was later revealed during a live stream done by CHERRYBERRY member, Daiyu, that she wanted to say something about Sunhee's passing but wasn't allowed to. It's heavily speculated ANGELICO has barred any of its artists talking about Sunhee and the case.
It seems the company is try to erase Sunhee and silence anyone who tries to mention the case.

## EVIDENCE 002 –– THE NIGHT OF
"he said to get gasoline."
"that is so obvious," reid deadpans as he walks behind jieun, who scans the isles of the hardware store. the girl huffs, shaking her head. her hands are shaking as she stops in front of the gasoline jugs, bringing her nails to her mouth to gnaw on them.
reid side-eyes her. he hates when people bite their nails. he gets this situation is stressful, he really gets it, but that doesn't stop nail-biting from being gross.
silently, reid pushes her hand out of her mouth, loosely holding it to offer her some comfort. he's not really good at comforting people but he thinks he's doing it right. jieun looks up at the boy, brow pinched before she shoves his hand away.
"don't do that."
reid shoves his hands in his pockets, nodding.
"sorry," he says lowly, leaning down and grabbing one of the bright red jugs, nodding towards the exit. they pay for it with the company card, just like jinhwa told them to, and get into aiden's car.
the car ride is silent. they don't even turn on the radio. just sit in silence.

## EVIDENCE 003 –– THE NIGHT OF
tw :: physical fighting.
"it's because you're a psycho bitch!"
"says the selfish sociopath!"
"can you two stop it–"
"shut up, aiden!" jieun and sunhee shout in unison from the backseat, going back to arguing with one another. miyu presses herself against the door with a sigh, crossing her arms tightly around her chest as she looks out the window.
reid sighs loudly and dramatically from the passenger seat, shaking his head as the two girls continued to yell at each other.
"you are seriously the most vapid, disgusting, bitch i've ever met. you have so much fucking nerve to come–"
"no you have some fucking nerve to talk to me like that," sunhee shouts, jabbing her finger into jieun's chest. it was like she pushed the button that made jieun see red, grabbing sunhee's hair and pulling her in to hit her.
but sunhee was a fighter. she never lost a fight. she grabbed jieun's bleached hair, pulling as hard as she could and bringing her fist down on the younger girl, who brought her foot up to kick at jieun. jieun screams at the impact, bringing up her foot as well to kick the girl back.
it's utter chaos. the car is complete and utter chaos.
the two fighting girls keep pushing miyu into the side of the door, causing her to yell as well, pushing them away. reid's shouting as well, joining in on the chaos he was hoping to stop. aiden just tightly grips the wheel, shaking his head as his eyes dart from the road to the rear view mirror to watch the girls fight.
"get off me!"
"you started this!"
"i hate you! you're a monster!" jieun screams at sunhee, who pulls harder at the younger's hair, trying to get her closer to hit her in the face.
"stop the car!" miyu screams, voice piercing the air and causing aiden to slam on the break, shocked at how loud and shrill the girl had sounded.
everybody in the car lurches forward at the abrupt stop, a still silence falling over the car that was quickly cut off by miyu exiting the car, slamming the door behind her.

## EVIDENCE 001 –– THE NIGHT OF
"god fucking dammit–"
"oh my god–" aiden jumped out of the parked car, looking at sunhee's crumbled body on the side of the road, blinking hard a few times to process what he was seeing.
sunhee was bleeding bad out of a wound from the side of her head. her body twitched but other than that, she was lifeless. she was completely and utterly still.
jieun let out a ear piercing scream when it processed for her what had happened. reid quickly slapped a hand over her mouth, silencing her and pulling her away from sunhee's body to sit her in the back of the car away from the sight.
miyu looked at sunhee's body in horror, tears in her eyes as she too was processing what had just happened. aiden looked at miyu, brows raised as the elder slowly got on her knees next to sunhee to check for any actual signs of life.
miyu put her trembling hand on sunhee's cheek, her thumb rested on her lips for a few moments before she jerked her hand back and covered her mouth with both of her own hands, letting out a loud sob. aiden quickly went to miyu, helping her up with a gentle hold as reid walked back around the car to the scene of the crime sighing heavily.
everyone was silent except for miyu, who sobbed into aiden's chest.
the boys locked eyes, speaking to one another without words.
aiden heard what jieun accused sunhee of, he heard how scared miyu got when jieun brought it up, and he heard how sunhee said miyu had it coming. he heard it all and so did reid.
reid stared at sunhee's body, eyes cold and emotionless. reid didn't usually show a lot of emotion, but this look was different. he was looking at the dead body of someone who was his friend, but knowing what he knows now about the crumbled girl in front of him, he couldn't look at her any other way.
"we should call jinhwa," reid said, mainly to aiden, seeing miyu was crying too much to talk. "he'll know what to do."
aiden held miyu to his chest by the back of her head, keeping her there for her comfort and his own. he looked back into the car to look at jieun, who stared at him. she had a splatter of blood across her face and wore the same cold and emotionless look as reid.
aiden nodded.
"call him."
