Yuya & Zarc & Odd-Eyes

Yuya is one out of four reincarnations of Zarc created when the Original Dimension was split into four by Ray Akaba, specifically the one born into the Standard Dimension. Though, his soul is more than just a fraction of Zarc's. Considering Zarc was split into four when he was merged with the four Dimensional Dragons (Odd-Eyes, Dark Rebellion, Clear Wing, and Starving Venom), that means that Yuya is a byproduct of both Zarc's soul as well as Odd-Eyes'. In this sorta way, his soul is sort like a Pendulum Card, half Zarc and half Odd-Eyes.

That does not mean that Yuya isn't his own person because he very much is. He has no memories of Zarc or Odd-Eyes until Zarc's resurrection towards the end of the series. He was born into Standard as a baby and was adopted by Yusho and Yoko Sakaki and raised as their own son. He was not aware he was adopted until Zarc's origins are revealed by Leo Akaba (Ep 126-127).

Yuya represents both Zarc's entertainment spirit as well as Odd-Eyes' extreme loyalty and empathy to it's comrades. He inherited Zarc's original desire to entertain the world and bring smiles to them through his dueling, to dazzle the crowd, opponents, and monsters alike. Out of all of his reincarnations, Yuya is the closest in personality to Zarc prior to his descent into madness. He also shares a strong bond with his dragon, as seen through their many duels together.

Yuya feels bad for Zarc at the end of the day, for he went through similar things throughout the course of his journey. He can see the pain in his eyes, the rage and frustration, and everything in between. He does not condone Zarc's actions, not at all. Taking out his frustrations on humanity and hurting innocents is never okay, but he more than anyone, can see how Zarc became the monster he ended up being and wishes for him to find peace.

Beserk Mode (also reffered to as the Awakened State) is a state of being Yuya can slip into following him and Yuto's uniting (AKA post Ep 37). It is a state that comes about through multiple means, but the main requirements are that Yuya's RAGE needs to be heightened, or he is in close proximity with the other fragments of Zarc (AKA Yugo and Yuri).

Visually wise, Yuya's dicrohomatic hues are replaced with glowing monochromatic golden hues. These eyes are meant to represent Zarc, and how Yuya is channeling his power. His voice is also deeper, colder, and is prone to yelling and growling. Some might describe it as...monster like.

This state grants Yuya a whole slew of different abilities. This includes but not limited to: the ability to make duel damage real far beyond Solid Vision's safety limits, the ability to manifest dark energy waves in and out of duels, the ability to manifest cards for a needed situation, and heightened, aggressive dueling abilities. In short, he becomes a BEAST of an individual who should NOT be messed with unless they wanna end up dead.

Yuya is usually incapable of controlling his mind in this state, however. It is more often than not him acting on pure emotion, or under the influence of Zarc's spirit that dwells within. And in most cases, he cannot remember what he did while in the state following it, making the situation usually even worse.

Beserk Mode Yuya will not hesitate to try and KILL or SERIOUSLY INJURE whoever is in his way, whether it's a friend or foe. He is a walking path of destruction and pain. So, anyone who encounters him should be cautious.

Ways to snap him out of this state generally include making him pass or tire out, helping him calm down (usually by helping him think of his friends and or Yuzu), or managing to somehow overpower him. It's not easy, but it can be done.

Expect Yuya when he's back to normal to be very remorseful about any damages he causes (the events are usually very traumatic for him if he remembers) as this state goes against everything he stands for.. It takes a great toll on his mental and physical state, and he hates it a lot.

Note: He does lose access to this state following his rebirth following the defeat of Zarc (something I'll go into in an eventual post canon hc post). So, he won't have this for any threads set for him Post Canon.

Yuya Sakaki/The Phantom Manga Verse Bio!

Yuya Sakaki is the youngest of the four Sakaki siblings (Yuto, Yuri, Yugo, and Yuya) and was born to Yusho Sakaki and Yoko Sakaki over twenty years into the future. Prior to the World Illusion, he was an aspiring entertainment duelist, wanting to follow in the footsteps of his father. In order to hone his skills, he enrolled as a student at the Shu Zo Duel School, a successful dueling school ran by his childhood friend Yuzu Hiiragi and her father. There, he honed his craft, much to the delight of everyone. Some even said he'd make a good teacher someday.

Yuya was very close to his older brothers as well; some might even saying they were inseparable. He always supported his brothers and their interests, like cheering on Yugo during his turbo duels. He was their sunshine, their ray of hope, and always made them smile, even during the tough times.

On the day of the World Illusion, Yuya's older brothers sacrificed themselves in placing him inside the only escape pod remaining. After the pod took him to his father's secret lab below their home, his father explained to him the situation and provided him with a single mission: to find out the origins of the Genesis Omega Dragon card and in turn, destroy it. Without any more information than that, Yuya is sent back to the past, to a time before he was even born...

Such travel did not come without any hiccups, as one would expect. The process of being sent back via the World Illusion had several side effects on Yuya, ones that affected him physically and mentally.

The first of which was that his memory was shattered, forgetting many important facts including his family other than his father in addition to his history with Yuzu. He only remembers he is from the future, the mission his father gave him, the relationship between his father and Reiji Akaba's father, and that Genesis Omega Dragon destroyed his era. Everything else is either foggy or suppressed.

Relating to this, the second effect the travel caused was for the spirits of his brothers, who died in the World Illusion, to be reborn inside of his body, becoming his 'personalities' and always protecting him while keeping their true identity as his brothers a secret. They didn't want to cause Yuya any more pain than he has gone through already.

The third and final big effect is the event caused a third of the Adam Factor, a power from his future self who calls himself 'Adam', to be reborn inside of his body, the power causing one of his eyes to turn green permanently. The Adam Factor is a power that doesn't give Yuya any particular abilities he can harness, but one that is needed to fully awaken Genesis Omega Dragon. The other two-thirds of the power were reborn in Reiji Akaba and Yuzu Hiiragi, making all three targets for Eve and her organization.

Following his arrival in the past, Yuya became a Solid Vision hacker under the alias The Phantom in order to gather more information about Genesis Omega Dragon from various sources. As such, he is being hunted by Leo Corporation, who will do whatever they can to get their hands on him. He also, as fate would have it, reunites with Yuzu Hiiragi, despite neither remembering one another, and is roped into being a teacher for the failing Suzho Duel School.

He uses an Entermate deck focusing on Pendulum Summoning, and his ace monster is Odd-Eyes Phantom Dragon. However, due to his brothers being inside of him, they are able to take control of his body at any time, and thus, have their cards and strategies at his disposal. He is also able to manifest things related to dueling (monsters, equipment, Yugo's duel runner) physically via Solid Vision, making him a rather unpredictable but powerful individual on and off the dueling stage.

One of the biggest differences between my Yuya and canon is in his eyes. Yuya has one red eye and one green eye, just like his ace monster Odd-Eyes Pendulum Dragon. However, in his main verse (aka the anime) he was born with two red eyes until the day he awoke both Pendulum summoning (and Zarc’s soul) where that event caused his eye to change color.

A similiar situation happens for the Phantom in the manga verse, whose other eye turned green following the World Illusion and his inheriting of the Adam Factor.

His awakened/beserk state sports golden eyes to resemble Zarc’s own, and is a visual indication he is under his influence.

hc + 🎓 for an education-themed headcanon / yuya

Yuya absolutely loves teaching people anything related to dueling, whether it's how to Action Duel or how to use one of the many summoning methods he's learned to master by post-canon (Pendulum, XYZ, Fusion, Synchro. I also think he eventually masters Ritual since there is an Odd-Eyes Ritual Monster as well.). He's the type of teacher who gets excited seeing his student's grow, and will tailor his teaching around their skill level and history. He will do whatever he has to do in order to help them because he wants them to enjoy dueling as much as he does!

Since he becomes an official pro duelist at the end of the series after passing the pro exam administered by Reiji, I can see him taking of teaching or tutoring at the You Show Duel School as a side hustle while he's in school and maybe becoming his full-time job after making some rounds as a professional Entertainment Duelist. It's a path similar to his father's own, but it's one Yuya makes his own and does his own way.
