i.   pilar can speak russian.   she hasn’t completely mastered it,  but she knows enough to have a conversation.   being a famous chess prodigy and grandmaster,  she’s been to russia dozens of times for tournaments,  so it only made sense to her to learn some of the language.

when it comes to running a drug cartel,  some things have changed since pilar took charge of the mazatlán cartel.   for instance,  while their rivals at juárez will use displays of violence as an intimidation tactic,  pilar has learned to make a successful weapon out of  surveillance.

she’s greatly increased the cartel’s budget for pay-offs,  buying herself eyes and ears everywhere.   anyone who visits her city is background checked before they even step into it.   her employees have access to all the security cameras in town.   you walk into a police station,  she’ll know about it.   get into a cab,  the driver might work for her.   make a phone call;  she practically owns the phone company,  and gets the operators to supervise calls that might be of interest to her.   in modern verses,  it’s even easier   ━━   phones already track your every move.   all she’d need is some hackers in her pocket.

this has created a lot of tension within mazatlán;  because who can you  truly  trust?   which place is safe?   she claims,  if you have nothing to hide,  you have nothing to worry about.   the one thing you can be sure of is she’s always one step ahead,  documenting your every move in her territory.

long gone are the nights pilar could peacefully fall asleep thinking about the sicilian defense or whether her children were getting good grades at school.   now,  pretty much all she has time to think about is business;  how to proceed,  what went wrong in the past,  what has to be done,  what has to be fixed.   despite being very intelligent,  pilar is relatively new to this and she’s under immense pressure to never make a mistake,  because things are already so bad.

she often busies herself with all those thoughts of work so she doesn’t have to think about alfonso,  alone in a prison cell.   but most days,  he’s still the very last thought on her mind before she falls asleep.

even through all of these she can still squeeze in a few minutes to think about the sicilian defense though

a brief overview on  pilar,  my newest muse who i’m obsessed with but can’t be bothered to write a bio / timeline for rn:

chess world champion,  earned the title of grandmaster in her early 20s.

my first brazilian muse,  bc it was about damn time.   born in brazil,  but she’s been traveling around for chess tournaments since she was a teenager.

in one of those trips she met alfonso cruz in mazatlán,  who she fell helplessly in love for.   the two had a relationship for a few months before she realized he was a notorious criminal in mexico,  soon to take the lead of a growing cartel.

pilar chooses to stay regardless,  not only because she loves him,  but she finds the criminal life alluring and exciting in a way,  even if she doesn’t want to be so directly involved with it.   she does come to help with the business side of things and learn how it all works,  but she’s not a part of the practical side of things.

when alfonso ends up in jail,  he leaves pilar in charge of the cartel.   she’s more of a messenger to him than an actual leader,  but she’s allowed to make some decisions without his prior approval as long as it’s nothing too major.

pilar isn’t happy about the situation,  but she does it for a variety of reasons.   firstly,  the authorities are closing in and they’re less likely to suspect a woman is calling the shots and target the wrong people for their investigation.   secondly,  she thinks everyone else is too incompetent to work to her standards.   and finally,  things are chaotic since alfonso’s arrest,  and pilar doesn’t trust anyone to properly look out for her and her children’s best interests,  or to not betray her husband at some point.

as a leader,  she’s more strategic than her husband,  but more merciful to some degree.   seeing  acts of violence up close might scare her,  but don’t be fooled thinking she’s unable to do bad things,  or that she doesn’t understand violence is an inevitable part of the business.

🕷️ SPIDER  -  what is their biggest fear? do they have any irrational / mundane fears?

pilar’s biggest fears definitely revolve around bad things happening to her family;  death,  specially.   it used to not be so bad,  but now with her husband prison,  she’s constantly stressing over it.   whenever her phone rings,  part of her fears it’ll be some correctional officer telling her alfonso has suffered an attack and died.   also,  being in charge of the cartel while things are so tense makes her fear that one wrong move she makes might cost her her children’s lives.   thankfully,  she’s good at working under pressure,  but it’s still not an easy task.

as for mundane things,  she’s scared of spiders.   as a child she used to be scared of clowns,  and even though she grew out of it over the years she still doesn’t like them.

a few times.   there’s obviously her husband.   a girl back in brazil who pilar fell helplessly in love with in high school.   a chess grandmaster in spain;  they shared a passionate affair,  but he ultimately rejected her when he realized she wanted things to be serious between them.   it broke her heart.   pilar is also not the kind of person to have crushes on just about anyone,  but from time to time there have been people in her life who  infatuated  her;  she wouldn’t call it love,  but it was a good feeling regardless.

what are my muse’s requirements for a potential partner?

first and foremost,  while this isn’t related to personality,  pilar likes people who take her seriously.   of course,  relationships can and should develop naturally,  but she’s not here to be some secret affair,  or a side chick,  or a casual fling you just hit up whenever you’re horny.   you like her,  you better put a ring on her.

she likes partners to have that sense of responsibility,  not only over her but life overall.   someone who just lives one day at a time with no ambitions or plans to do something with their life just wouldn’t work for her.   also being capable and willing to communicate well with her is essential.

would my muse ever cheat on their partner?

usually the answer would be a hard  no.   pilar is very loyal.   but with the situation with him in prison,  things are much more complicated.   she does get really,  really lonely at times.   but she loves her husband,  and she knows how difficult things would become if he ever found out about her cheating,  so while i won’t rule out the possibility that it  could  happen,  it would be a special case.

what are the ways my muse says ‘I love you’ without actually saying it?

she can take on an almost motherly role while expressing affection;  that is,  taking care of others.   making you coffee or tea,  taking care of you when you’re sick or when you’ve had a hard day,  helping you with something you’re struggling with.   she’s also big on physical affection in private moments  ( not a huge fan of pda ),  so shoulder rubs,  cafunés,  cuddling,  chaste kisses;  these are all ways to express her love for a partner.
