he falls to one knee instantly upon sensing him, head bowed. steels himself as the sound of footfalls draw near. his pulse quickens when he hears his voice, just as it had before naboo. just as it had on lotho minor. even in his crazed state, memories… or hallucinations- if there was really a difference it was slight and unimportant. maul had heard his master's voice in the tunnels. fear. hunter. filth. nothing… there is no mercy, mercy is a lie.

" yes, master. " maul says aloud, or tries to, his words lost in his throat - leaving his voice hardly above a whisper. golden eyes close, willing himself calm. " your teachings- your training… it was because of you that i was able to survive, master. " as if it had been on purpose. as if he had clung to life and used the tools he'd been given to survive. he would have preferred to die, preferred it had kenobi finished the job. but was the dark side ever willing?? or was he, whether he liked it or not, merely trapped within it?? a slave to it. was there anything in his life he could seize control of??

another plan spoiled. things seem to purposely turn out wrong for him. like the galaxy was adamant that he fail or suffer a great loss right after winning.

golden eyes stare at the jedi for a moment, then look away. he moves around the room, searching for something. " surrender?? " he repeats, a dark chuckle bubbling up from his chest. there's something unsettling about it. " you've already lost, kenobi. " we've lost, more like it, but the idea of lumping them both together disgusts him.

his plan had been to plead his case, ally with the enemy to destroy a common enemy. defeating his master alone would be impossible, together they had a chance... but it was too late. of course kenobi was oblivious to it. with that avenue completely dried and with lady satine killed, by his books, revenge has been enacted. he had no use for the jedi. and judging from his vision, kenobi was about to be quite miserable without maul even having to lift a finger. prosthetics whirred gently as he squatted down, rummaging through a large metal container.

" feel free to leave. i have very little interest in you. " said dismissively over his shoulder and with a wave of his hand.

maul doesn't flinch under galen's probing gaze.

he usually wouldn't scar. zabraks (as far as he knows he's not an anomaly) have quite the impressive skill for healing quickly and thoroughly. often leaving no evidence of injury ever occurring. this instance had been different. sidious. he wanted to stretch the healing to it's very limit once he'd discovered it. not unusual for him. he liked to bend and push and twist until just before the breaking point. only ever relenting temporarily.

rotates his arm so galen can see the scar in question properly. it would be hard to notice if you weren't looking, sort of blends in with his tattoos. it's jagged and thin, but deep. he had healed far more than he thought he would when it happened. in all honesty, he thought sidious was going to cut his arm off. " what does it look like?? " if galen wanted to know he'd have to work for an answer. being able to identify causes of different wound could be helpful.
