Starter || @valorheroics​ || Abi The wind is a gentle reminder that the chill that runs through his body is due to nerves rather than the indecisive weather. Hands clamp and squeeze his knees while eyes bounce from one side to the other. It's almost been a year since he's last seen her and it still felt as if they barely made it past step one. Of course, the werewolves terrorizing them throughout the night were partly to blame—he was no exception. His memories of the night were fuzzy at best, struggling to connect the dots that made her feel so far away.

She felt so ... distant, now. The whole summer he thought they grew to know one another and now they felt no different than strangers. He remembered staring at sunsets she painted with shy smiles and tentative words that warmed his heart in ways he couldn't describe and now they've lost their color, their meaning. What was once tender and beautiful felt blinding and unbearable.

A lump slides down his throat the more he thinks about what he could possibly say to bridge the swelling gap between them and his mind comes up empty, far too afraid of what gave the gap the space in the first place. Nick's insecurities make it difficult to relax, nearly missing the subtle crunch of leaves calling for him to look their way.

"..." Words fail him where he needs them most, fumbling the second she's come. "It's ... been a while." Awkwardly, he debates standing from his spot on the bench, instead just sliding over to offer her a seat.
