HE IS THE BEST CUDDLER!! this man is essentially a giant golden retriever

HAPPPYYY BOKAY THURSDAYYYYYY!!!!!!!! *que air horns* Anyways would you like to write some 80’s AU Bokay head cannons?? Like how you first met??

TYSM FOR THE ASK BB!! i’m sorry it took so long for me to get to it! this ended up being,, WAY longer than i anticipated? i just went off on one idea so this is less general hcs and kinda how we met and got together! also i made a moodboard for no reason? 

OK SO this is a college/uni bokay late 80s/early 90s au!!

bo is there on a sports scholarship (likely american football or maybe rugby) and also part of one of the frats on campus!!

so he’s not trying as hard as he could be on the academics side

THIS ISNT BC HES NOT SMART

i know a lot of ppl don’t see bo as smart BUT HE IS

he’s just focusing on other things and using his smarts to plan the best parties that campus has ever seen

so as a result of his scholarship, he has to keep his grades up

unfortunately, he’s slipping in a couple of his classes and gets told he needs to find a tutor and that’s where i come in!!

i work at the academic success center (i actually did do this in college!) and so he’s one of the students that i get assigned to work w

our tutoring sessions consist of a lot of him semi flirting but also blushing?

he’s embarrassed bc he’s here to get help even tho he could have done the work he’s just kinda lazy and gets distracted when there’s a million other things on his plate

like practice and workouts and training and the ton of frat events he attends

so the flirting is a lot of “you look different today, did you get a haircut or something?” “actually i slept like 3 hours thanks for noticing” and then awkward silences

bc im over here thinking ‘WHAT THE FUCK THIS GUY IS SO HOT HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO FOCUS ON SPANISH LITERATURE WHEN HE LOOKS LIKE THAT AHHHH’

at least at first?? but then he does all this cute stuff during tutoring sessions like chewing on the end of his pencil or doodling little notes in the margins of his books, or using cute photos of his family back home as a bookmark

and then it goes from just appreciating him as eye candy to ‘well shit i kinda wanna love him forever’

we go on with tutoring for a while, but eventually bo’s grades pick up and he doesn’t need the appointments anymore

both of us are a little too shy and awkward to say anything on the last session so we both go home at the end just kicking ourselves for not asking for a phone number or to meet up or anything

we don’t see each other for a while

or at least bo doesn’t see me for a while

i go to all of his home games and cheer him on but he doesn’t know bc i like to sit at the top and leave before the crowd heads out

but he’s always searching the crowd at games, trying to see if i’m there, and feeling a pit in his stomach whenever he sweeps the crowd and doesn’t immediately see me

one night some months later, after the season has ended, i’m waking back to my dorm through greek row bc i’m a slut for architecture and none other than bo is walking out of one of the large building wearing a toga, a crown of poorly painted gold leaves around his head, his face flushed, and a huge grin on his face

i stop in my tracks momentarily at the sight, wondering if i’ve actually passed out in the library and am dreaming

but then bo’s voice calling my name is ringing through the sounds of the party drifting through the open doorway behind him and he’s bounding over, the grin on his face growing

as he gets closer, i see the flush in his face and the slight stumble in his step and brace myself for impact as he crashes into me for a hug, his arms wrapping around my waist and lifting me up

“uh bo???” i’m blushing and trying to free myself from his grip ok i’m not trying that hard WHO WOULDNT WANNA BE IN HIS ARMS

but he’s just grinning and laughing before setting me down and grabbing my hand, pulling me into the brightly lit doorway and up the stairs of the house

“i’ve been kicking myself for not asking you out ages ago so let’s go out now!! we could get burgers or just walk around the city or get ice cream or go skinny dipping or —“ he cuts himself off, looking back at me with wide eyes as his smile drops for a moment while he lets go of my hand

“oh my god i mean if you want to of course i’m so sorry this probably seems so creepy and pushy —“ he babbles on, his facial expression now one of panic instead of excitement

i just laugh, still kind of thinking that i’m dreaming, and reassure him with a squeeze of his hand and a small smile, “bo no that all sounds amazing, i’d love to. i was hoping we’d run into each other too”

at this, his grin returns to his face as he continues bounding up the stairs and down a hall, before pulling me into a bedroom

“aren’t we moving kinda fast?” i tease him as i look around the incredibly chaotic room

bo turns around with a shocked look on his face before it melts into a grin and a hearty laugh as he sees the teasing look on my face

“i’m just getting changed! can’t go out on the town in a toga,” he calls over his shoulder as he walks to the closer. “don’t look,” he turns around and waffles his eyebrows at me with a grin, before pulling out a shirt and some jeans

as he gets changed, i turn around and look around the the room, not failing to notice the sticky notes littering his desk, little messages and reminders that i’d written for him during our tutoring sessions

i feel a tap on my shoulder and turn around to see bo, eyes excited and face still slightly flushed, but now fully dressed

he sees me eyeing the sticky notes on his desk and blushes even more, a hand going to rub at his neck before he’s laughing and grabbing one, looking at it affectionately before sticking it back down

“they help me stay focused, you know? remind me that i should be working hard. you really helped me a lot”

before i can respond, he’s grabbing my hand and pulling me down the stairs, out the door, and into the fresh night air

we walk around the city, getting to know each other better over burgers before getting ice cream and MAYBE SKINNY DIPPING IDK 👀

at the end of the night, we head back to my dorm, deciding to watch a movie and since “it’s close enough, and we might as well stay up to watch the sunrise” 

we end up putting on a movie, something fun and light like hercules, and cuddle up on the couch, falling asleep just before the sun rises

18. how similar are your personalities?

so i think our personalities are similar in a lot of ways!! we are both very passionate and empathetic and emotional people!! we share a thirst for life and maybe lack some impulse control, but we both are all in or not at all kind of people. i tend to me a little more reserved whereas bo is more personable right off the bat, but we balance each other well! i think that a big part of our relationship is balance, the give and take between the extremes

19. how compatible are your mbti’s?

so bo is ESFP and i’m ENFP (leaning toward INFP)

i think this is where that balance comes in again, especially w me being more introverted where bo is extroverted since i’m sort of in the middle when it comes to E/I

i don’t know much about mbti so i can’t speak to it too well, but i think we would butt heads on a lot of things bc we are similar in a lot of ways. i’ll usually take the lead on confrontation since neither of rly want to, but we both like to go w the flow and are open to anything, which is/has been a big part of our relationship dynamic!

what does bokay's bedroom look like?

HI XIN BB!! thank you for asking this!! i’m sorry it’s coming a week late (prob gonna be how bokay thursday is gonna go from now on ksjshs) BUT here it is!! i made a mood board bc i thought that would make the most sense!!

so it’s mostly warm colors, soft fabrics, pops of saturated color, very *lived in* that’s my nice way of saying messy with some fun neon light fixtures (the sun and moon) above the bed as lamps!! we have a cat (a black kitten) and a bulldog (not pictured) that will hang out in our room also! i’m the type to try and make the bed in the morning but bo is NOT aksjshs

he definitely loves when i bring them to practices and rolls the ball to them when they’re young and also practices w them after actual practice is over if they want to when they’re older!!

i don’t have kid personality hcs or anything yet but our household is loud and energetic and chaotic!! we are always yelling and laughing and we are all EMOTIONAL kajsjs

but the kids are so sweet and we raise them to be kind and genuine and honest, not afraid to speak up and be true to themselves!!

BOTH OF US!! i have pretty little impulse control, which is dampened only by my laziness, so if i want cereal at 3a? or to make rice krispies? i’m either waking bo up or running to the store myself and waking up up to make rice krispies or eat some cereal with me!! bo is much the same way, if he has something he wants to do, he is READY TO GO AT ALL TIMES and i’m honestly so on board bc its him!! everything is an adventure when we’re together 

46. who is a morning person? who is a night person?

ok so i see bo as a morning person! not necessarily by choice, but bc of workouts and his passion for life, he doesn’t like the idea of sleeping the day away 

i’m much more of a night person!! (yes i see you angel i am sleeping earlier tonight i promise) but i can also wake up early if pressed, so i’ll get up w him on occasion and go workout or eat breakfast or get ready to go on a day trip! 

bo gets up early but tries to stay up w me so he ends up taking a lot of naps during the day when he can! i’ll find him asleep in the kitchen, a bowl of finished cereal in front of him, or passed out on the couch with our bulldog, or asleep on the toilet

50. who said the first i love you? was it immediately reciprocated, or did the other person wait?

i kind of answered this here, but long story short, i confess first! bo is nervous bc he doesn’t want to come across as weird or too much or scare me away by rushing things, so he tries really really hard to hold himself back from saying it first! the dumbass that i am, probably says it in passing bc it feels so natural and it’s gotten to that point where i just,, need to say it? so after a game or saying goodbye when he drops me off i accidentally say, “okay bye baby, i love you!” and then we both look at each other like: 👁👄👁

and then he’s getting out of the car and running over to me and picking me up and swinging me around in a hug before he pulls away with the biggest smile on his face and eyes shining, “i love you too”

OK SO i can see this going both ways!! i originally wanted to say tattoo artist!bo and florist!kayla BUT CONSIDER THIS -- florist!bo and tattoo artist!kayla??? florist!bo is working under the patient tutelage of florist!ushijima (who i have a bunch of hcs for and a fic for so it’s canon for me at this point) when i come in one day asking about flowers for sketches!! and florist!bo is FLUSTERED it is adorable, he doesn’t know what to do or what to say and even ushijima is like?? what is happening?? 

n e ways, eventually i just start making excuses to come in and hang out in the shop with bo, especially during his breaks (ok so i line mine up so i can visit him during his shhh don’t tell him) and i invite him to the shop to see some of my work one day! he loves the floral designs, especially the sunflowers, and asks if he could schedule an appointment to get one

HI EM BB ILY HOW ARE YOU??? tysm for sending this in!!! I’M SORRY IT’S COMING LIKE A WEEK LATE KJHSDG ya girl has been stressed and managing time poorly ajkdf but HERE IT IS!! 

1. where was your first date? 

i’m going to answer for canon since i don’t think i’ve done that yet! bo as himself (ofc) and me as nekoma’s manager! bokay’s first date was not so much a date date so much as going out with the nekoma and fukurodani teams after a practice match one day where both of the teams were trying to get us together by pulling the most OBVIOUS STUFF and we were both too flustered and embarrassed and IN DENIAL to notice 

kuroo saying that everyone has to sit at one table except us? because “there’s not enough room for you two to sit here, you can sit over at that table” as he points over to a tiny table tucked in the corner of the restaurant

me: “but kuroo there’s two more seats at that table?” 

lev, stretching out like the giant lanky boi he is to take up 4 chairs instead of one as konoha throws his body across the table: “no there’s not enough room sorry” 

yaku silently rolling his eyes at the antics but also giving me a gentle push toward the table like, “PLEASE, you’re going to have a better time over there anyways” 

akaashi just gives bo a look like: “they’re not going to stop unless you do it” as he gives him a light nudge on the shoulder toward the table 

SO THEN we are at this tiny table and awkwardly not making eye contact as kuroo sends over one drink with two straws and we have 20 eyes trained on us like: 👀😏

anyways, we end up finishing the free drink (THANKS KUROO) and booking it out of the restaurant, laughing as the teams splutter and protest, and wandering around town for the rest of the afternoon, finally relaxing now that we’re not around everyone

we spend a lot of the time talking about how silly the teams are and pretending not to realize what they were getting up to at the restaurant, but also just enjoying each other’s company 

we don’t realize how much time has passed until the sun is starting to set and we sort of just look at each other in surprise? but there’s another practice match coming up the next week so we make plans to ditch the teams afterwards and have an actual afternoon that we spend together 

we never call it a “date” BUT when we meet back up with the teams we DEFINITELY BOTH SCREAM about how I HAVE A DATE WITH THEM!!!! FINALLY!!! 

and if bo plays extra well the next week? and if i maybe try and look a little nicer? the teams try and bite their tongues and not tease us about it bc they rly want it to work out and not embarrass us (they’ve been SO FRUSTRATED FOR AGES ABT US NOT DOING ANYTHING so they’re so ready for it to finally come to an end)

for big events like anniversaries, bo will plan dates!! we sort of take turns planning, so i’ll plan his birthday and he’ll plan my birthday, and then we alternate anniversaries! but he also likes to try and surprise me, so he’ll call akaashi and talk to him about ideas and then one day i’ll come home to him naked and covered in flower petals HAHAHA JK,,,, but not really 👀 in a suit with a huge smile on his face like “WE’RE GOING OUT!! GET CHANGED!!” and i’m standing there bbq sauce on my tiddies tired from work but honestly the smile on his face is all it takes for me to feel ready to stay up all night which we usually end up doing before bo passes out akdfha

SHORT 

that’s it probably. he would rly notice how short i am bc ya girl is SHORT

i don’t wanna say a bunch of nice things abt myself bc it makes me uncomfy but i think he would think i have a really nice smile and that i’m cute and am a rly kind person 

13. who initiates physical affection more?

BO BABY 

he initiates most of the physical affection!! not bc i don’t want it, but it’s rly not my style to be physically affectionate outside of my so and my family so it would take me some time to get used to it!! he likes to grab my hand and play with my hair and give me hugs from behind where he rests his head on the top of mine. he’s a big thigh grabber and waist grabber and i am HERE FOR IT, i just don’t know how to initiate it as much 

getting more comfortable with it, i’ll initiate things more by holding his hand or playing w his hair ALSO GRABBING THAT ASS  but generally bo is the one that initiates physical affection more

bokay weekends and days off

so if i have anything to say abt it we will be sleeping in!! ik a lot of people see bo as a night owl just bc of the fact that he is,,, an owl,,, but i rly are him as an “up at any and all hours!!” kind of person

he can stay up w me til 3a but also just as easily be up at 6a w our bulldog for a walk (where bo carries him jshsh)

after we both get up (and after bo does his morning workouts if we are talking canon bokay) we have breakfast together!! usually cereal bc we love cereal in the bokay household 😌 if bo needs to be healthy for training he will have oatmeal or another less sugar alternative!!

weekends and days off go one of two ways: ADVENTURE!!!! or rest and relax

we like to go on day trips to new places we haven’t been before!! whether that’s the beach or a new city or town that we haven’t seen, we’ll go for the day or for the weekend and just see the sights and explore!!

if we stay in and rest and relax, we will binge a show or have a movie marathon!! bo loves building pillow and blanket forts so we get ELABORATE and build giant ones in the living room where we cuddle up all day and watch whatever we’re feeling that day (if it’s scary movies we have to watch them w the sun out bc i am a babie 😔🤚🏽)

we also rly like to go out to eat so we’ll do that when we have the time and ability!! especially when we go on the day adventures we will try new places and things to eat! when we stay in, we’ll either run down the road to our local favorite restaurant or order in!! relaxing days are for owl onesies only 🥰✨
