I have Rosalyn cuddled up to me right now because the flickering lights are freaking her out a little bit, and it's giving me a dull headache. Would you mind if we crash at your place for the night? Okay, look, I've really come to regret this -- this whole thing. I know I said I wouldn't, but I have... and I think the biggest thing is being honest. I hate the damn Elf on the Shelf. Why did I think this would be something cute to do with Rosalyn? Like in theory there's something really cute about how excited she is every morning looking for the damn doll but do you know the true panic at 3 in the morning when you realize you haven't moved the damn elf? Just what I need to ruin the whole magic of Christmas before she's barely two years old. Whoever talked me into this I should sue. Someone should also take away my Tik Toks because I've seen one where the elf ends up with a broken leg for three weeks so you don't have to move him, and yes it is a 'him' but I have a feeling we'll end up with more elves because did you know you can buy a whole elf family? Baby elves and all? Now tell me, did I give you a tiny heart attack at the beginning of that...? Just remember you still adore me, and I'm cute! @cagenewman

Okay, so the house is officially settled and broken in -- I don't mean that any particular way either! -- but I feel like I finally have it the way I want and am in need of a girls night. I'm thinking letting Cage or Jason have a night with Rosalyn and breaking out an old school spa night at home, only this time with wine we aren't sneaking out of our parents cabinets. Can you believe we're past Christmas? It doesn't feel possible that we spent the whole month building up to this and it's already been here and passed. Is it possible to get the post-Christmas blues less than twenty-four hours later? Because I'm definitely already feeling them, even if it was such a good day. Okay, so I have something that I wanted to finally tell you. I've been holding off just based on not wanting to say anything and jinx it. I know I just moved into my place, and I'm going to be there a bit longer but Cage and I are buying a house together. Didn't want you to hear it from someone random but it looks like everything is going really well with closing. The house has to be fixed up, Cage is chomping at the bit to get going and all these different ideas -- but I thought you should definitely know. @theobrowningfd

We have the artificial tree where she can reach it. I'm trying to teach her not to touch the tree. It's been interesting attempting to stop her, definitely some ornaments have been tested but thankfully they're shatterproof. I'm just happy the tree hasn't been fully toppled over at this point. @xwesjames

There is something magical about it when you do have one but a lot of it has to do with making the magic ourselves. There's lots of ways you can make the Christmas spirit feel pretty special if you can't have a real tree. Right now she's doing pretty good with the tree but she does like to try and play with the ornaments which doesn't help so thankfully I've only had plastic ones up that are shatterproof that she can't really ruin unless she really tries. Did you manage to get your trees up? Any lights? I'm pretty much decorated in my small apartment but I am going to be taking my more precious ornaments over to my boyfriend's house to put them up on his tree where they'll be safe but able to be displayed. @libbystcwart

The smell of a pine tree is the best thing. Definitely is pretty much the top reason you get a real tree at Christmas time. Right now I'm settling for artificial sprays and candles to give the room that missed smell. I get it's not the same and there's probably a more fake smell but it comes close-ish. Someday I plan to go back to a real tree when I know she can be more controlled around the tree and not possibly destroy it. This is like practice runs with artificial trees. I did find somewhere to put up some of my ornaments so they won't go to complete waste hidden away in the attic and will get to enjoy some time out of their box. Which will be nice so it was an all around win once I get to put them up this weekend. @joshlane

I never really minded the mess when it came to real trees, it was always easy enough to sweep up. The downside would be the dog getting into everything and messing up the tree. Much like my daughter would with the tree until it is practically bare. What exactly is a pencil tree? I do look forward to her opening gifts and getting all excited. She's not one that fully understands the concept of Christmas and Santa and the holiday but what little kid doesn't get excited about ripping open wrapping paper for new toys even just under two years old? @mcndyhcrtmcn

Did not know about the fact you could rent Christmas trees and I do like the fact of it being more eco-friendly. I more so want it for the wonderful smell but Rosalyn is not about to give in willingly to not exploring a tree and picking off all the needles until it's bare. I do love that idea, though. Of them replanting them once they're big enough again. Maybe someday I'll get to do that but for now my nicer ornaments will be making an appearance over at Cage's place this weekend, I believe. @clemnewman

They can be a lot of work, without a doubt. Keeping them alive, making sure to water them, having them properly trimmed, adding the lights to them, knowing when to buy them so they won't be half dead by Christmas. Though there's still something special about them, thing it's the nostalgia it brings me from my childhood. Good point, I haven't thought about the fact that it's more of a fire hazard and that's probably top three biggest fears of mine. You're like the second person to mention these scented sticks to me! I've been using sprays and candles but I'm gonna have to find these sticks! Are you all ready for Christmas now? @gracelynguyen
