( kim sejeong, ciswoman, she/her, 26) ** ♔ announcing MA-RI NARI,  the PRINCESS OF THE JOSEON DYNASTY! in a recent portrait they seem to resemble KIM SEJEONG. it is a miracle that SHE survived the last five years and for that reason, they are FOR the kingdoms working together. reflecting on them now, they remind me of  soft  giggle  that  gives  a  sense  of  false  innocence ,  the  first  sip  of  a  decadent  wine and warm water as it embraces silken skin.

Princess Han Ma-Ri Nari suffered from middle child syndrome from the moment she was born, whether she chose to acknowledge it or not. Her parents, The Emperor and Empress had not expected another child so soon after the birth of their first four, but when Ma-Ri was born, they embraced her with open arms. Despite their initial happiness, Ma-Ri had always felt her parents’ distance, both physically and emotionally, and by now, their marriage had already begun to break apart at the seams. She was often over-looked by her parents, and so she grew to be soft-spoken, and agreeable, always doing as she was told.

From an early age it became clear that Ma-Ri was an over-achiever, excelling at sports and academics; and becoming quite a skilled equestrian. She was a talented horseback rider, with a patient hand and meticulous nature which aided her well in the sport, and it soon became a way for her to creep out beneath the over-bearing shadow of her siblings.

Those who were not close with Ma-Ri would be quick to describe her as a lonely soul, but the young princess found comfort in being alone, to do as she pleased without the pressure of a conversation. Her siblings were always accepting of her introverted behavior, and it was not until she reached her teenage years that her parents began to notice that their daughter barely had any friends – or any need for them at all. She regarded ladies-in-waiting the same way. But in order to please her mother, Ma-Ri allowed the former empress to appoint her with two ladies, who would assume their position at her side.

It was the first time in her life that the princess was constantly in the company of others, and it took her quite some time to get used to; while she enjoyed the notion of friendship and companionship, her siblings had always filled that void.  When it came to her ladies-in-waiting, she regarded them more as confidantes than anything else; and over time the women grew exceptionally close. Ma-Ri welcomed their company, and encouragement, and guidance.

To say that her nation's struggle did not affected Ma-Ri would be far from the truth. They suffered from floods and sickness. part of the royal palace was destroyed and many valuables were lost. the emperor and his family were able to escape, but his wife was lost to the water. now they’ve returned and they are intent on recovering riches and wealth not only to rebuild their kingdom, but their reputation. the idea of home is not comforting because what’s there to go home to? there’s asmall faction in the country that blames the emperor for their troubles

While the empress’s death greatly saddened her, she found that she was far more concerned for her siblings’ well being than her own. Ma-Ri knew that she could not avoid her past, or her family name, for the rest of her life, no matter how far she traveled.
