traveler was leaving fontaine. he'd made his feelings very clear and shown in the recent days leading up to today. aether had a larger goal and plans for the future... and freminet was not in those plans. it hurt in a way that the young man hadn't ever felt before and sometimes he vaguely wondered if this was what true heartbreak felt like. lyney and lynette did their best to get his mind off of things, inviting him further in to help with the magic shows. he appreciated his siblings deeply and for some parts, the work helped.

not today, though. today it was raining and freminet didn't have the heart to cry out 'hydro dragon! hydro dragon!' after all, it fit his current mood. he stood to the side as he watched aether say his farewells to his siblings, brows furrowed slightly, mouth pressed tightly. he was good at holding in his emotions, or at least hiding when they became too overwhelming. but he felt determined to put on a brave face... at least until aether had gone.

he blinks in surprise when a shadow falls over him, glancing up to see the traveler standing in front of him. the blond seemed to glow in a heavenly way, which freminet should think impossible with how downcast and rainy it was. "i--" he starts, before cutting himself off, "um, i hope you have safe travels to natlan," the diver says quietly, unsure if aether even heard him over the roaring downfall of rain. he was going to say something else when gentle fingers take his face, guiding his head up.

warmth. the warmth of aether's lips is such a harsh contrast to the cold of the rain. freminet is surprised, eyes widening before they go half lidded at the press of the other's soft mouth. it doesn't deepen, staying a gentle kiss, but it goes on for longer than the diver would have thought and when aether pulls away, he stares up at thim with a dazed look. "oh... um," he whispers, brows furrowing, tears beginning to form at the edges of his eyes, "g-goodbye, traveler."

" it's only a crush. it's harmless. it'll go away. " Aether disengaged from the subject of feelings for anyone in this world at every turn. Distancing himself from Barbara. Dismissing Ayaka's rather childlike fancy. Even now, he was on the precipice of doing it again. He couldn't even look at Lyney when he spoke of his brother.

It was so obvious. How Freminet blushed, how Lyney stepped back and pushed his younger brother towards the object of their affection.

And Aether cut them both down.

he had built it up for so long. he knew from the start it was probably a long shot... after all, aether was so otherworldly beautiful. his long golden hair, bright honey eyes, and the smile that made freminet want to hide in his helmet for the rest of his days. it was so blinding that he always had to avert his eyes. and he never thought the traveler to be cruel... but this was the response he was going to get? it felt like his heart was cracking in two, the diver's eyes watering slightly, but he refused to cry in front of the one he admired most.

"ah..." he whispered quietly, bangs hanging low in front of his face, covering the reaction to aether's words. he didn't think that the blond meant to be mean. he'd stated those words as if it were a fact. as if freminet hadn't fallen head over heels for him. as if he'd ever felt like this for someone else in his entire life. the diver bit his bottom lip and nodded slowly, "i see how you feel... i won't. i won't bother you with it again."

freminet flushes deeply as the traveler is suddenly a lot closer than he was just a moment before. the loud smack aether's hand made when it hit the wall makes the diver jump, blue eyes widening as he meets aether's golden hues. "ah..." he squeaks out, suddenly ducking his head and looking anywhere but the male in front of him. his heart seemed to beat faster, palms growing sweaty as his crush leaned in. he was unsure why the traveler suddenly felt the need to move in so close to inspect him, but freminet is absolutely sure that his cheeks are apple red. "tr-traveler..." he whispers, unable to make his voice any louder, "wh-what are you doing?"

freminet frowns a bit, perplexed by the words. what in the world did that mean? fuck him-- like fuck him over? well, he didn't talk to many people outside of his family and the house of hearth... other than traveler, of course. and he could wield a weapon just fine, why did he need protection? he already had his brother and sister hovering over him whenever possible. in his opinion, he was protected enough as it was. his frown deepens, brow furrowing as he reads the words again and again.

freminet stares at his big brother for a long moment, his eyes going downcast as he bites down on his bottom lip. he knows and understands where he's coming from, he's even grateful that lyney cares so much. he wishes he could say all of that and express those words better, but he's not sure where to even start. the younger only nods a bit, hand reaching out to take his older brother's, gently giving it a squeeze to ensure that he knows what he means. even though he doesn't always have the words to say, his brother and sister know him better than anyone else in the world.

"i... i promise to be more careful moving forward," he says finally, "b-but... i don't want to only sit on the sidelines when i can help, too. however..." he gives it a moment to think over how he's going to say things before settling on, "i will look to you for guidance when things get scary. we can help each other, right? just like always."

[ underwater ] a kiss shared while submerged in water freminet

freminet hadn't been meaning to swim so close to aether as he explored the ocean floor, but the diver had been distracted by how beautiful the traveler looked with the sunlight filtering through the waves. the moving reflections of water over aether's face nearly took the diver's breath away. how was he to survive being in the presence of someone who was to breathtakingly gorgeous?

it was unlike him to be so distracted whilst under the waves-- after all, one wrong move here and you could very possibly die. however, as he stared, he'd drifted closer, eventually bumping into the traveler whilst he was looking through some shells. frem went to move away, but was halted when a hand gripped his wrist. he blinks in surprise, glancing down at the hand and then up again at aether's face.

a startled noise is ripped from him as he notices that the other is right in front of him. a soft hand gently tilting his head before a warm mouth is pressed against his. a full body shiver goes down his back and he's lost in the kiss for only a moment. time seems to stop for him, the only thing mattering being the heat of the traveler's lips against his. it doesn't last long, however, and he pulls away, blushing hard, turning and covering his face with his free hand. he can't believe the traveler just did that! was it a mistake? did he just wander too close without realizing? fingers trailed down to his lips... was he hallucinating or could he still feel the warmth despite how cold the water was?

he flushes a bit at being the center of aether's attention, glancing at the traveler with confusion as he hears the words. his nose scrunches a bit and he clears his throat. "oh, um... okay," he replies, a pink blush forming across his features. he wasn't quite sure what aether was getting at, but wasn't one to push away any attention the blond traveler gave him.

it took far too long to craft - paimon’s ‘help’ (occasionally handing him something, but mostly offering unsolicited commentary) not doing anything to speed things along. admittedly the end product leaves something to be desired, but he hopes being made with love makes up for it.

he manages to sneak up behind freminet, tapping his shoulder lightly with a bright grin. “i have a surprise for you!” a flash of uncertainty runs through him as he pulls the crown from behind his back - it’s fashioned from shells the otters helped him find, as well as some pearls from watatsumi. it’s a little lopsided, but it manages to sit on freminet’s head just fine. “a dashing prince needs a crown, you know.” the line comes out painfully practiced as a blush warms his cheeks. aether knows, really, if anyone, freminet won’t make fun of him for doing something cheesy. but the anticipation still settles uneasy in his stomach.

freminet flushes as he hears the familiar voice of aether, the smaller male jumping a bit as a soft weight is placed on his head, face tilting up, eyes crossing to see just what it was. the soft salty smell of the sea drifts over him and he can just barely make out the edge of a pretty scalloped shell hanging over his bangs. "oh," he lets out softly, fingers reaching up to graze over them. his heart swells in his chest and he turns to look at aether, the blush high and prominent over his features, coating his nose, cheeks, and ears in a pretty red.

"aether, th-thank you, it's so pretty," he says, voice low in that way that it gets when he's embarrassed. the urge to hide in his helmet calls to him, but he bites down on his bottom lip and smiles at the traveler instead. "if-- if i'm a prince, does that make you a king?"
