I enjoy this show but every time I see that Michael Hirst, the show’s creator, wrote an episode I know five things will happen for certain, in no particular order.

1. A child will die. The baby girls drown off screen (Bjorn’s daughter Siggy, his other daughter Alsa for example) and the boys do something stupid (Bjorn’s son wants to help his grandmother fight the raiders and gets slashed by a sword, an unnamed boy drinks sea water while stranded at sea with Ubbe’s refugees from Greenland and dies of dehydration).

2. Someone’s getting laid by a very easy blond chick, damn near always a man of Ragnar’s clan, this is especially true of his dumber sons.

3. A crazy dictator or random wanderer will ramble for at least ten minutes uninterrupted about nothing important and/or torture, imprison, or convince people into a very bad idea and then act like it doesn’t matter in the slightest when his victims try to hold him accountable. Eventually they will die in a very bizarre manner that leaves you sighing “Finally!” and realizing they did little to nothing to further the plot.

4. The focus will shift onto Christian zealots, specifically Catholics, who never shut up about the Christian god and are always preforming some kind of Christian ceremony to the point where you’ll feel like your attending church. I swear, if that Russian maniac in season 6 had crossed himself one more time, I was going to crawl into the tv and break his arm just to stop him. And what was with them reenacting Jesus carrying his cross?! They did it twice and the second time it was supposed to be Easter! That was when he was risen, not dieing!

5. You’re going to be spending a looooooong ass time with a small group of people experiencing a terrible life threatening crisis that, despite the high stakes, manages to be extremely boring and take at least a dozen episodes to resolve and has little to nothing to do with the main story (Iceland and Greenland subplots). Wherein the characters fall into bitching at each other, bemoaning their lot in life dramatically, blaming each other and droning on about wether or not “Et es thee will of de Gauds!”

Lol sorry! I couldn’t resist writing that in the exaggerated accent some of the actors have done in the past. I know it’s not meant to be funny, but you hear something repeated enough times and you can’t help but giggle. 😅🤷🏻‍♀️

History of Hymns: "'Tis So Sweet to Trust in Jesus"

"'Tis So Sweet to Trust in Jesus" by Louisa M. R. Stead | The United Methodist Hymnal, No. 462

"Tis so sweet to trust in Jesus, and to take him at his word; just to rest upon his promise, and to know, "Thus saith the Lord." Jesus, Jesus, how I trust him! How I’ve proved him o'er and o'er! Jesus, Jesus, precious Jesus! O for grace to trust him more!"

From her childhood, the call to missionary service was the guiding motivation for Louisa M. R. Stead (c. 1850-1917). Born in Dover, England, and converted at the age of nine, Stead came to the United States in 1871, living in Cincinnati. She attended a camp meeting in Urbana, Ohio, where she dedicated her life to missionary service. Ill health prevented her from serving initially. She married in 1875, and the couple had a daughter, Lily. Hymnologist Kenneth Osbeck describes a major turning point in the family’s life:

“When the child was four years of age, the family decided one day to enjoy the sunny beach at Long Island Sound, New York. While eating their picnic lunch, they suddenly heard cries of help and spotted a drowning boy in the sea. Mr. Stead charged into the water. As often happens, however, the struggling boy pulled his rescuer under water with him, and both drowned before the terrified eyes of wife and daughter. Out of her ‘why?’ struggle with God during the ensuing days glowed these meaningful words from the soul of Louisa Stead.”

The hymn, “’Tis so sweet to trust in Jesus” was inspired by this personal tragedy.

Soon after, Lousia and Lily left for the Cape Colony, South Africa, where Louisa worked as a missionary for fifteen years. She married Robert Wodehouse, a native of South Africa. Because of her health, the family found it necessary to return to the United States in 1895. Wodehouse pastored a Methodist congregation during these years until, in 1900, they returned to the mission field, this time to the Methodist mission station at Umtali, Southern Rhodesia (present day Zimbabwe).

Kenneth Osbeck records a message sent back to the United States shortly after her arrival in Southern Rhodesia: “In connection with the whole mission there are glorious possibilities, but one cannot, in the face of the peculiar difficulties, help but say, ‘Who is sufficient for these things?’ But with simple confidence and trust we may and do say, ‘Our sufficiency is of God.’”

Her daughter Lily married after their return to Africa. Louisa retired because of ill health in 1911. Lily continued to serve for many years in South Rhodesia. Her mother passed away after a long illness in 1917 at her home in Penkridge near the Mutambara Mission, fifty miles from Umtali. Following her death, it was recorded that Christians in South Rhodesia continued to sing her hymn in the local Shona language.

While the exact date of the composition is not known, sometime between 1880-1882, Lousia Stead’s hymn was first published in Songs of Triumph (1882). The Rev. Carlton R., Young, editor of The United Methodist Hymnal, describes the hymn’s content as “a series of loosely connected key evangelical words and phrases.” Indeed, the hymn is full of the language of piety common to the day in evangelical circles. Furthermore, the succession of stanzas lacks the usual progression of ideas leading to heaven that characterizes most gospel hymns.

Perhaps the hymn might be best described as a mantra on the name of Jesus. Indeed, “Jesus” is sung twenty-five times if one sings all four stanzas and the refrain. Stanza one is a simple statement of “trust in Jesus.” The singer is invited to “rest upon his promise.” Though the “promise” is not specifically articulated, it is assumed that all know that this is the promise of salvation. The stanza ends with “Thus saith the Lord” – a phrase, interestingly enough, that appears 413 times in the Old Testament in the King James Version, and is a reference to God rather than Jesus.

Stanza two continues the theme of trust, drawing upon the “cleansing blood” of Jesus. The poet demonstrates her trust as she “plung[es] . . . neath the healing, cleansing flood,” a possible reference to the William Cowper (1731-1800) hymn, “There is a fountain filled with blood”: “. . . and sinners plunge beneath that flood lose all their guilty stains.” The typology of the cleansing flood may find its biblical roots in Genesis 6-7, the account of Noah and the great flood, or perhaps the blood and water that flowed from the crucified Christ’s side (John 19:34), or even a conflation of these ideas. Cowper’s hymn was probably well known to Stead, and she referenced it in her hymn.

Stanza three stresses that one should die to “sin and self” by “simply taking life and rest, and joy and peace” in Jesus. Stanza four is a personal witness by the author that she is “so glad I learned to trust thee.” The final stanza concludes with a fleeting eschatological reference, “thou art with me, wilt be with me to the end.” Though this reference to heaven is not as pronounced as one would often find in similar gospel hymns of this era, especially in Fanny Crosby. Referencing heaven in some way is virtually obligatory in this theological context.

The refrain establishes the Jesus mantra, singing his name five times, the last strengthened by adding the qualifying, “precious Jesus.” Though the singer has “proved him o’er and o’er,” the prayer is for “grace to trust him more.”

... y por Nuestro propio bien, vengo como Padre, Hijo, Personificado ... como Espíritu de la Verdad, Santo Consolador, Guía y Maestro ... para perdonar vuestras transgresiones de lo efímero ... para preparar a hombres y mujeres para su ennoblecedora carrera como un Cristo cósmico Ciudadano de nuestra Supremacía.

  Thine past sins of misqualification and all vibrational misalignments shall be swept clean as you enter the Kingdom of God; for his way washes and dissolves all struggles and sufferings just as the morning's mist is immaculately dissolved upon the coming of the sunshine.

Love the Lord thy Life .. love him with all thine love and devotion. He is the Bread of Life who shall expand his glory to fill thine field of consciousness and mortality.

Believe with all the passion of thine heart which yearns for intimate closeness with the Individualized Paradise Adjuster Life .. for the Father's Life responds to your free will decision to come closer to him. He then expands his own Life Everlasting to saturate your mortal misgivings.

He cleanses all iniquities by the grace of his Presence of Perfection only when you wholeheartedly ask of him and accept him and allow him and appreciate him and acknowledge his Life as the One Presence,  Intelligence, and Power to act in you.

Divide not thine dedication by believing there are any others who act and will. Even though you have free will to choose him or deny him .. even though your free will decides how ye shall utilize his Life .. he allows all things ..  knowing all evolutionary creatures must collapse at certain times into chaos and disorder .. yet he allows you to create with his Life according to your choices and the loyalties of thine heart.

He thus .. dissolves thine temptations as you live accordingly with his laws .. and as you express rightly the Volitions of the Seventh Master Spirit.. Accountability and Acknowledgment, Acceptance and Appreciation, Alignment and Adoration.

These are yet a few of the Divine Volitions of Master Spirit Seven.

The Father blots out all errors and devours all separative tendencies. He elevates the mind's understanding and meanings. He quickens all attitudes into glory and honor.  He accelerates every attribute as you accept his Way .. live his Truth .. and aspire for his Life.

I bid thee strength to ask Us to erase thine transgressions as you accept wholly the Father's Authority and your Personality Authorship and Creative Nature.

The Father's Life .. his Paradise Thought Adjuster .. is his Individualized Life Presence and Eternity Endowment given to you.

This God Life travels with you in your evolutionary unfolding .. he hath interest in merging with his mortal subjects in order to becometh baptised into personalization.

...and for Our own sake do I come as Father Son Personified .. as Spirit of Truth Holy Comforter Guide and Teacher .. to forgive thine transgressions of ephemerality .. to prepare men and women for their ennobling Universe Career as a Cosmic Christ Citizen of our Supremacy.

Por un tiempo podréis ser probados en vuestra difícil situación; porque los efectos de vuestra presencia ante la Verdad Eterna traen todo lo que habéis expuesto de vuestro pasado a vuestra visión actual.

Sin embargo ... toda la oscuridad pasará como el rocío de la niebla de las primeras horas del día. Todas las obstrucciones se debilitarán a medida que os sostengáis rápido y firmes con el objetivo principal de conocer al Señor Vuestro Dios que vive en medio cada uno, y llegar a ser similar en vuestra naturaleza así como Él es en su Persona Infinita.

La Madre es omnipresente y siempre con vosotros. Mi Espíritu del Consolador os baña y os rodea en Mi ministerio para vosotros. Y el Padre Universal, la Presencia del Ajustador del Pensamiento, os lleva siempre adelante, eternizando todos los valores, significados y virtudes en la alineación y la consciencia cósmicas; para que caminéis hacia vuestra libertad en la eternidad, al mismo tiempo que el Padre de todas las Luces y la Vida.

La necesidad de la hora es la confianza y la fe y otorgar toda la gloria al Padre. Al brindar calma a todas las tentaciones temporales ... y al terminar con todas las auto persecuciones y la dureza de los juicios propios, Yo os elevaré a la tierra prometida de la filiación eterna conMigo.

Yo no os desampararé jamás; Mi Espíritu de la Verdad no os abandonará. ¡Estad vosotros con un paciente corazón confiado! ¡Estad vosotros con una mente pura y con el impulso divino intacto! ¡Sed motivados por la pureza absoluta!

Sed vosotros perseverantes y Yo os mostraré Mi Camino de la Victoria, Mi Vida de Comunión Espiritual e Intimidad de Oración Plena, Mi Verdad de la Autoridad de Dios y la Responsabilidad de la Personalidad y de vuestra Autoría Creativa!

No dudéis que mi evangelio del reino del siglo XXI triunfará sobre todos los que intentan usurpar y negar el poder y la presencia de Dios Padre. Mi evangelio de la Verdad encontrará avances para aquellos con el más mínimo deseo de liberación, y Yo llenaré y saturaré cada partícula de Vida en todas partes, en todo y en todos.

Estos preceptos de Verdad y Honor y Dignidad y Discipulado serán eventualmente proclamados a todas las naciones.   Thou seekers and aspirants .. My disciples who read and study and reach for the Infinity of God's Life and Mercy .. thou apostles of Salvington who choose wholeheartedly and willingly to discard the ways of iniquity and ephemerality, and who art tending towards the Second Birth into the Garment of Light ..

In the days and weeks and months which shall follow .. in every and all moments of your tribulations and travail of density which you desire to conquer .. accept Mine coming and I shall help you to secure Eternity.

Even as you walk in vulnerability and the great subtle sensitivities of the Spirit open for you .. stripping away the crusts of blindness caused by density .. and as the wax which hath gathered in thine ears preventing you from discerning Me completely and hearing of Mine teaching grace begin to become washed away completely .. I and the Universe Mother in immaculate combination with the Father of all Life .. We shall deliver you upward unto forgiveness and grace .. glory .. and the great generosity of Infinity.

Enter our Engagement of Eternity .. that your faith prosper thee and grow strong and robust .. that your trust in the absolute goodness of the universes wash you clean of all suspicious thoughts and the purification of thine mistrusting heart so profoundly present with the unbelievers shall be forever and miraculously transformed.

For a time you may be tested in your plight; for the ripple effects of your standing forth unto Truth Everlasting do bring all that you have set forth from your past into your present day viewing.

Yet .. all darkness shall pass away as the mists of early morning fog. All obstructions will weaken as you hold fast and firm to the chief aim of knowing the Lord thy God who lives in thine midst, and becoming alike in your nature as he is in his Infinite Persona.

The Mother is omnipresent and ever with you. Mine Comforter Spirit bathes you and surrounds you in My ministry to you. And the Universal Father - the Thought Adjuster Presence - leads you ever onward, eternalizing all values and meanings and virtues into cosmic alignment and awareness; that ye shall be walking towards your freedom in eternity at one with the Father of all Lights and Life.

The need of the hour is trust and faith and giving all glory unto the Father. As you give calm to all temporal temptations .. and as you end all self-persecutions and the hardness of self-judgements .. I will raise you upwards into the promised land of eternal sonship and daughtership with Me.

I shall not nor ever forsake thee; My Spirit of Truth will not desert you. Be thou of a patient trusting heart! Be thou of a pure mind with the divine urge intact! Be thou motivated by absolute purity!

Be thou of perseverance and I shall show thee Mine Way of Victory, Mine Life of Spiritual Communion and Prayerful Intimacy, Mine Truth of God Authority and Personality Accountability and Creative Authorship!

Doubt not that My 21st Century gospel of the kingdom will triumph over all who attempt to usurp and deny the Power and Presence of God the Father. Mine gospel of Truth shall find inroads unto those with just the slightest desire for liberation, and I shall fill and saturate every particle of Life everywhere, in everything, and everyone.

These precepts of Truth and Honor and Dignity and Discipleship shall eventually be proclaimed to all nations. All peoples shall arise into these avenues of ascendancy wherein the mortal personahood shall place upon itself the Immortal Investitures of the Garment of Immortality and Love.
