hello i wanted to know your thoughts on how galgali, the violence fiend, is drawn out to be this evil, mass murderer when in reality he is so peace loving and polite and caring towards those he works with. it's interesting because he did say he still has control over his brain, yet the public safety department created such a distorted image of him.
heyyyy yeah i find him and angel p intriguing bc they're more reconciled to their human nature than you’d expect them to be and much like everything else in csm i believe this has to do w how social interactions affect the individual and vice versa and no one is inherently devilish/human and some humans (the govt) are more devilish than the devils themselves.
the person the violence devil took over was probs a peaceful and kind person so i think that personality prevailed over the violence devil, making him in turn kind and caring. its the same w angel devil bc it's hinted at how that one person was v important to angel and their memory + aki’s love & concern for him influenced him to grow into the protective guardian figure of an angel who sympathises w people. in csm the ult takeaway is that power is essentially a corrupting force so the movement is away from aspiring to greater power and the emphasis is on the loneliness that inevitably comes with power so everyone who's powerful understands the need for affection and once they receive it they change and they urge others to do the same— hugs or feelings of affection & empathy are the only things that matter in a broken world. so ofc acts of kindness form the core memory of devils and make them more humane— angel recalls the core memory of that important person even under makima’s brianwashing and attempts to save aki who’s important to him too. the control devil recalls that finger bite shared b/w makima and denji even in their reincarnated form. someone like pochita who used to literally wipe out devils let himself get eaten by power to save denji. power, known for her isolationist & survivalist nature sacrificed herself, reached the pinnacle of emotional development, defied someone like makima, and urged denji to befriend her once more all bc denji showed her affection—so yeah, everyone who's come in contact with affection has changed and so has the violence devil who came to inhabit a mind and a heart that was full of compassion.
and the reason he’s painted like that by the public safety is bc it’d again directly benefit the govt if they could successfully instill fear of the violence fiend into the public so they don't protest against the govt and also so that galgali couldnt garner support from the general public. only ppl who work with him would know the true him. so basically its the way propaganda works to keep ppl in line and also looking at this treatment of galgali thru marxist lens we can say this is in a way how 'dehumanisation' of the labor force happens under exploitative systems. just like denji is dehumanised by makima who keeps calling him a dog and throwing him into situations where all he ends up with is death, blood and violence, and somehow convinces him that its a good life for a dog; galgali is dehumanised by the govt too and they convince him whatever little love he gets from his co-workers is more than enough for someone non-human, someone who is a devil and attributed w violence, a quality that has caused one too many problems for humanity. so galgali like everyone else is a character who represents the complications of being demonised as a devil/fiend/hybrid in a world where the govt is more guilty than all the devils we've encountered and in fact, they directly make use of the devils as well as the citizens to fight each other, consequently causing damage in a scale greater than a devil's. galgali also represents how everyone changes when they’re loved and that everyone is ultimately shaped up by their immediate society. we’re all products of social interactions. if the interaction is good, we’re good. if it isn’t, we’re fucked. when someone like pochita who was hell’s #1 devil, ate devils for a living, came in contact with denji he got affection and love and evolved into the pochita we know and love. contrary to this, someone like makima who was an idealist w noble intentions encountered the horrors of the second world war first hand, came in contact w the government at that moment of crisis and was brainwashed and morphed into the nasty control devil we all hate. so yeah essentially that’s how it is. the violence devil feared and hated by everyone came to understand the feelings of a compassionate pacifist and that changed him and he grew into a compassionate co-worker who valued kobeni’s life enough to throw himself in the face of the darkness devil even tho the extent of fear the darkness devil inspires in devils is uhh scary to say the least.
