Bright eyes take in the ball with a look of wonder, mouth open in a gasp. The scene is quite literally breathtaking in that way, to her at least. So this is what she’s accidentally missed the past two years? She’s been missing out even more than she realized. Tiny jingling noises follow her rapid footsteps from the small bell she’d acquired on entry, racing towards the masquerade with mask in tow. She has to ‘ball’ hard enough for three years, after all!

"Elise!" Corrin runs over to his little sister, and instantly pulls her into a giant spinning hug. He gently kisses her forehead, care and love behind his every action, before setting her back down to the ground with a smile across his face.
From who knows where, he produces a rather squishy looking (and crudely wrapped) present, opening her hands gently and placing it in them, "It's not much, but I wanted to make you something! The eyes might be a little uh... lopsided," He cringes at the thought of the poor little stuffed dragon inside of the package, one eye hanging far below the other, "But happy birthday anyway! It's the thought that counted I suppose!"
“Brother!” Elise giggles happily as he spins her around, continuing to squeeze him in a hug for a few seconds even after her feet find the ground again. She tilts her head a bit as she steps back, watching as he takes the present, her face lighting up when she realizes it’s for her.
She takes the present into her hands as carefully as she can, eagerly unwrapping it before he even has a chance to finish his explanation.
“I wanted to make you something!”
Elise stares into the little plush dragon’s lopsided eyes as the words sink in. She would’ve loved it no matter what— stuffed animals are adorable and she loves all of them (plus it would hurt their little plushie feelings if she didn’t like them and she doesn’t want that)— but the fact that Corrin made it. For her…
“WAAAAHHHH THIS IS THE BEST PLUSHIE TO EVER EXIST IN THE HISTORY OF EVERRRRR!!” She launches herself back at her brother, hugging both him and the dragon almost painfully tightly. Not the most mature adult look, but she gave up on trying not to cry after about 5 seconds.
“ITS AMAZING AND I LOVE IT AND I LOVE YOU AND IM SO HAPPY IM YOUR SISTERRRRR!!!!”

“Another impressive outcome,” Hubert says, though he is not surprised that someone like Elise would get such positive reviews. He hands her a button that says ‘exceptional model of behavior.’ “You have done well, and provided us ample data to move onto the next phase of the experiment. We thank you.”
“It has been noted that you are incredibly sweet, if only to hide some of your sadness. You also are intriguing to those who wish to study animals alongside you.”
Elise gasped, clapping her hands in happiness as she looks between the button and it’s creator. “I did?! Really?!” She was hoping everyone would like her (especially since she liked them all too), but to hear she did so well it was impressive??
“Hehe, thank you!!” She reaches out quickly and practically snatches the award out of his hand, taking the button so excitedly it’s impressive she managed to not accidentally stab herself while fixing it to her uniform. It’s a little crooked, but that’s okay! She’s still a winner. She won friendship. Yippee!
Kinda weird someone thought she was ‘sad’ though. Was she sad? She doesn’t remember being sad. Did her being sad make them sad??? She hopes not. That would make her sad for sure. Oh well, at least she’s still friends with whoever it was! This was a very productive experiment. Probably.
“Thank you! This was super fun! I’m happy I was able to help you, too! Whatever it is you’re doing. Good luck with that, by the way. I hope the ‘next phase’ thing works out!”

Elise can’t help but immediately break out into giggles. She’s always entertained by how Odin can manage to say the simplest things in the most complicated way. It’s fun. She’s glad he still does it, even here.
Though at this point it would probably be really weird to hear him talk normally.
“Thank you! Your selection is as… um… as astounding as the gleaming nights star, brighter than the rest in its splendor of darkness!” She nods confidently as she finishes, beaming up at her brother’s retainer. She’s a little out of practice in speaking Odin-talk ‘the dark tongue’, but she thinks she got it close enough! She’s pretty sure! She hopes! Only Odin would really know if that was true or not though.

"Auntie Elise!!!" It is his father's little sister that Forrest throws himself at with the most force, sweeping the princess into as tight of a hug as he can manage. (It is not truly very tight, but it's the thought that counts.)
"Now that I am here, there are so many things that we simply must do! So many shopping trips that we have missed out on! Don't worry, I shall make up for it in tenfold! Shall we start with tea first? You have to tell me what you've been up to. You're my favourite aunt after all!"
Dramatic gasps and joyful squealing is the only thing she can manage for the first few moments as she returns the hug with equal (if not greater) enthusiasm.
She doesn’t let go of his arms even after she pulls back, looking over her nephew with a pout on her face that falters under the force of her own smile even as she tries to look disapproving. “Who do you think you are, not telling me you’re coming?! You gotta give me time to prepare for these things! I mean, look at me! I’m giftless here! What kinda aunt doesn’t have a gift for her nephew at the ready?! Jeez.”
She tries to hold her glare for a few more seconds, but the act quickly shatters. She hurts into giggles as she pulls him back into a hug. She’s never been good at the ‘strict’ thing. “I’m just kidding, ya meanie! I can’t stay mad at you. Now, about that shopping… I hope you’re free for the next few hours, ‘cause I saw just THE BEST place last week! Super sparkly. You’re gonna love it!”

🧃"Oh Elise you aren't too hurt are you!? Do you need me to take care of you? Is there anything you need? I'm always here to kiss your boo boos! You're never too old for that, despite what Leo pretends."
“I’m okay, don’t worry! Sakura healed me earlier. Oh yay apple-” Elise smiles up at her sister, but being okay doesn’t stop her from taking a juice box. Adults can have juice boxes too. Juice boxes are for everyone.
She swings her legs a little as she stabs the straw into the juice box, taking a quick sip before she returns her attention to her sister. “Did you see me out there? It was SOOOO super close! We almost won!”
She hopes that if Camilla saw any of it, it was the nearly successful parts that stuck out more than her own failures, at least.
“Oh! And Selena was really strong! She took out this HUGE armored guy, all by herself! It was amazing! She’s the real reason we made it as far as we did.”

"Oh Elise! A happy birthday to you!" Camilla gives the youngest Nohrian a one armed side hug. Her other arm is carrying a basket full of wonderful treats for the birthday girl; pretty hair ribbons, yummy chocolates, pretty flowers, and plenty of sweet treats!
Elise gasps, trying to focus on hugging her sister first and foremost, but very clearly distracted by the basket and its contents. As soon as the hug is let go, she wastes no time in inspecting it. “Is all this for me? Seriously??”
She beams back up at her big sister as she pulls her back into yet another hug, tighter this time. She has to make up for her earlier hug, after all! She can’t have her sister start thinking she only appreciates the gift and not her! That’s just not true at all.
“Thank you so so so so soooo much, Camilla! You’re the best! Oh— do you wanna share some with me? I don’t know if I can eat all this myself, hehe…” That’s a lie. She totally could. But she’d happily trade any sweets for more time with her sister, especially on her birthday.

topic: lady edelgard (and other esteemed leaders).
"O-oh, this is - I'm not sure this is the right - ?" Dimitri twisted about in his seat, ready to flag down whoever might have mistakenly left such a card on their table. It must have been a placecard, meant for Edelgard or someone on her behalf, but as he looked around the room, he found he could not find either sight of the Imperial heir nor anyone from her court.
Sheepishly, he turned back to his new partner - another princess, from another foreign country (Goddess, this really did feel like soirees in Fhirdiad, didn't it, to be presented with princess after princess?) - and he cleared his throat. "I'm sorry, they must have, um, provided us with the wrong...card..."
He trailed off in a flutter of awkwardness, but met her eye with an attempt at a smile - it was fine, he thought, he could still play the charming prince.
"After all, I couldn't imagine they truly want us to talk about prominent political figures, considering, erm, that we are...them. It wouldn't be in good form to discuss someone else for a first conversation, I think."
‘Lady Edelgard’…? Why does that sound familiar? Elise squints down at the card, face scrunched up in concentration as she tries to remember. Edelgard… Lady… …leader… hmm…
She’s snapped out of it just before the answer reaches her by the person sitting beside her now. He seems uncomfortable. Weird. She wonders what that’s about, she’s having a great time so far.
Elise returns the awkward smile with her usual bright one, nodding in agreement and flipping the card over so the text couldn’t even be seen anymore. Maybe that’ll make him feel better? “That’s okay! I don’t really know who that is anyway, don’t think I’ve ever met her. Though if she’s someone political, I guess that makes sense. I don’t really pay a lot of attention to that kinda stuff.” She probably should though.
A little disappointing, honestly. If this ‘Edelgard’ is important enough to the organizers to be a topic all on her own, she’s probably super nice! Or she’s the worst. Political people always seem to be one of the two, in her experience.
“These are just suggestions anyway, right? I’m sure they won’t get mad if we talk about something else if we don’t like the topic! This is supposed to be fun, after all!”

Interview [Returning]
Shoes thud loudly against the floor as the youngest princess almost sprints through the gates, only stopping to spin around and excited hop in place as she waits for the guard carrying most of her bags for her. “Come on, come on! It’s this way! Almost there!” She cheers the best she can, her own small bag swinging around and hitting her legs as she giggles, not minding the occasional impact.
She feels a little bad not helping, but it was way to heavy for her to try. She has no idea what Effie and Arthur had packed for her in those other bags, the one she’s carrying having been the only one she packed herself. With hers mostly full of books — the fun ones — and things like crafts to occupy her time with during the ride over (and to give as presents to those she knows upon her return, but that’s a secret surprise), she assumed that it must’ve just been clothes and stuff, but she doesn’t think clothes would be that heavy… eh, whatever, he’s got it.
She spins back around the most the guard is close enough for her to feel like she’s not leaving him behind, rushing up to her old door as fast as she can without risking being yelled at for running in the halls if a professor were to see her, (a practiced talent), and swinging the door open. She frowns slightly, slowing down as she enters and flings her bag softly onto the bed. She knows she took her decorations with her when she went home, but… it’s weird, seeing it so empty.
Even weirder, she notices, is how different it feels to when she arrived the first time. What had brought her there then was a hope to improve herself even further after what she had witnessed in the war, and that still hasn’t changed. It had been such a hard time on everyone Hoshidan and Nohrian alike, and even though she got plenty reassurances that she was doing a good job… What she had to contribute had always felt like too little, to her. Especially when compared to the rest of the army.
She thought the Officer’s Academy could teach her just that, something she could use to contribute in a larger way should a conflict ever arise again. Be it learning democracy to solve things in a peaceful way like she would prefer, or magic classes to improve her healing in case pacifism wasn’t an option, she was willing to do it.
It was a big change, and she had been excited, sure, she always was, but she was also… scared. That’s the main difference, she thinks. She’s plenty nervous now, of course, but then, she’d never been so far from home before, and she’d hardly been anywhere without someone coming with her. Maybe that’s why she had to go home for a little while. Return to something — and a few someones — familiar.
Sure, her siblings had still been there when she arrived, surprisingly, but even with the unexpected joy that surprise had brought, she couldn’t help how nervous she was. She was always told she was too childish, something that was a weakness of hers, some would say. She feared that would lead others to take her less seriously, and see her as a child, not as the mature and helpful figure she wanted to be for her people. Her difficulties with learning in a serious environment certainly wouldn’t have helped that, either… And probably still wouldn’t…
“…lise? Lady Elise?” The voice from the guard behind her snaps her out of her memories, blinking as she realized she was accidentally staring at the wall. “Lady Elise, I’ve finished arranging your belongings. I will be going now. Best of luck settling in.” She turns around just in time to see the guard bow, and for her to awkwardly curtsy back, trying to mimic his mannerisms.
“U-Uhm, yes. Thank you, my good sir. Um, bestest, uh… tidings be upon ye…?” Elise winces slightly as she remains bent down, holding her skirt out slightly the way she had been taught. She sighs as the guard leaves, not acknowledging her awkward attempt at formality. She doesn’t know if she’s grateful for that or not.
She straightens herself, lightly hitting her forehead in frustration as she makes her way over to a specific bag, kneeling before it to undo the fastenings of the large bag and remove it’s only contents. A painting. She feels the negative feelings melt away almost immediately as she stares at it, the faces of herself and her siblings staring back at her, all smiling. And she smiles back.
She stands, gently placing it on her bed and carefully laying a blanket over it like she was tucking it in to ensure no harm came to it while she wasn’t present. She was too short to hang it up herself, she knows that, and she knows she has to ask for help to get it up on the wall again, but she just wanted to see it. To see them. Her family. The people that always give her strength.
The reason she’s always so positive, the reason she’s always trying her best to make others happy whenever they’re at their lowest, the reason she’s always the first to offer to help, even if she probably can’t do it— it’s because of them. They are her strength.
She stares at the faces for a moment longer before covering them, to protect the paint from the sun, the way she wants to protect the real them, before dashing out of the room.
The princess practically flies down the hallway, the same way her siblings did when they had first heard of her arrival, but this time, it was her looking for them. What role she plays now, she doesn’t care. She’ll play whatever role she has to be, whatever role they need her to be. She’ll support however she can, the best she can. Just as she always has. And just as they always have for her.

[Sweet Bun Trio] [Tea] It was the ball where Niamh was first introduced to the complexities of tea. The kind, the way it is brewed, even the atmosphere determined the outcome of the tea. It was here that she was taught that.
And more recently, she was provided tea and treats for her birthday - testing the combinations had been fruitful. But, perhaps more than that, she noticed another factor that was key to having enjoyable tea.
So, when she finds a set of pastries to try, and notices the array of teas being offered, Niamh surveys the room. Through the sea of faces, one in particular stands out - one she recalls meeting not so long ago.
"You're here too..." Niamh softly voices, showing the tray of treats to Elise. "Would you like to try these? There's lots of tea to pick from, too..."
The other person is immediately recognizable to her, despite the brief nature of their initial meeting. The mask probably helps in that. Ironic, considering the nature of the ball.
Though if the point of a masquerade is to hide one’s identity for the night, wouldn’t it be more effective if she didn’t wear a mask? Would it even count if she hadn’t worn a mask?? Could she layer masks???
Eh, it’s not that important. Especially if there are sweets present. That takes priority.
“Niamh! Niamh, right? Oh my gosh, it’s so good to see you again! Your dress is so pretty!” Elise takes a moment to look over the other’s outfit before acknowledging the tray or the offer of its contents, as is polite. She wouldn’t want Niamh to think that she’s only in the conversation for food, after all! Their friendship is just as important, even if it hasn’t existed for long! No, more important! It goes masks < sweets < friendship. As it should.
She makes sure to gasp as if she’s just seen the tray before reaching for a bun. Because she has not been eyeing it. She is a mature and polite adult. She would never. “Really? Thank you, hehe!”
She tries to take a small bite, but as soon as the sweetness hits one ‘small bite’ turns to two ‘small bites’, resulting in a less-than-refined princess talking with her mouth full. “Mmm! It’s so good! Niamh, have you tried this?!” It is good. Too good. A gift this great deserves a gift back… but all she has is the weird bell thing from when she got here…
…OH RIGHT SHE HAS THE BELL. She unclips one from her brooch, (gently) slamming it down on the try where the sweet had once been. Resulting in an accidentally-sugar-coated bell but that’s okay “Hm… here! You take this! Now I’ve given you something too, so it’s fair, right?”

“Oh, hold still for a second Elise. You’ve still got chocolate on your face.” Smiling, he reached over with a napkin to wipe the remainders of tonight’s dessert off her cheek.
Ask Meme from Here!
“Eeeehhhh…” Elise shrinks back in her chair, pouting a little as the napkin touches her face, though she of course makes no move to stop him. “Kamuiiiiii, I’m not a baby! I can do it myself!”
She remains pouting even after the napkin leaves her now-clean face, grumbling something about being an adult under her breath with crossed arms. Though even in her grumpy mumbling, there is a ‘thank you’ in there.
She’s still going to act upset for a little longer, but she could never actually be mad at him for more than a few seconds.

Late afternoon sunlight illuminates the monastery grounds by the time he finds her. "Happy birthday, Elise," he says warmly, holding up a hand to prevent the inevitable hug that will surely follow. "Please, save your hugs until after you open your gift. I'd hate for it to get crushed."
Leo extends the wrapped box held carefully in his free hand. The selection of chocolates inside will be fine; it's the folio of sheet music also tucked away he's worried about. Tracking down completed compositions of famous violinists--of which there are alarmingly few--in Fódlan was time consuming, but well worth his effort.
"Alright, now you may attack me," he teases, arms open wide. Defenseless, only for his baby sister.
Leo’s hand comes up just in time to stop her mid-run, causing her to instead awkwardly skidding to a halt in front of him with a slightly confused and disappointed pout. Though the pout doesn’t last long, immediately disappearing at the word ‘gift’. As was probably expected.
She struggles for a moment, trying her best to open it carefully like a normal person rather than just tearing at it like usual. If crushing it is enough of a concern to mean no hug, it’s gotta be super fragile! She’d feel awful if she broke it.
Her face lights up when she finally manages to defeat the packaging, only lighting up further when she actually sees what’s inside. “Oh my gosh, Leo! Where did you even find this?!”
Elise squeals as she flips through page after page of music excitedly, already itching to run back to her room to practice. But first, hug! Infinitely more important. She takes a moment to make sure she sets the box down in a safe place where nothing will happen to it, before finally allowing herself to launch herself at her big brother.
“Thank you thank you THANK YOU! I’m gonna memorize all this as fast as I can! Then I’m gonna put on a HUUUGE concert for you, Camilla, Xander— everyone! It’s gonna be the best, promise!”
