The diaboys reacting to a boy forcefully kissing their s/o female x reader
❌Trigger Warning!❌ There is non-consensual kissing and aggressive flirting. The kisses are very short and it doesn’t go further than a kiss but if non-consensual kisses and aggressive flirting make you uncomfortable or trigger you or bother you in any way, you may not want to read after the cut :)
Shu
——-
The hallway was deserted, he had you cornered against a wall. “I really like you.” The boy said, his arms caging you in. You laughed nervously. “Thank you, but I actually have a boyfriend.” “He doesn’t need to know.” The boy said, moving his head closer to you, putting you nose to nose. “No, thank you!” You pulled back and tried to duck under one of his arms but he quickly grabbed your waist and pressed his lips to yours. You shoved at his chest but less than a second later the boy was pulled away from you and you heard him yelp in pain. Looking up you saw Shu had him pressed against the wall, his wrist in a bone-crushing grip. Shu’s voice was quiet and calm, but the look in his eyes would have made even the bravest of men cry for their mother. “You don’t kiss what doesn’t belong to you. Now scram.” The boy didn’t need to be told twice, the second Shu released him the boy dashed off. Shu turned to you, his eyebrows furrowed and you looked up at him sheepishly but he then hugged you. “Ha..you troublesome woman...making me use my legs.”
Reiji
——-
Reiji was walking through the school, mentally going over his notes for the next test. He passed you-seemingly alone in an empty classroom. Curious and worried, he walked in and saw a boy looming over you. The boy then pressed his mouth to yours, firmly holding you in place. Reiji stalked forward and grabbed his forearm, wrenching him off of you. “Kissing a woman forcefully, your lack of manners are completely deplorable. If Karlheinz Sakamaki found out scum like you went to this school...” Reiji let his voice trail off. The boy’s eyes widened. “K-Karlheinz Sakamaki?” “Yes, as I’m sure you know, he’s a very influential man.” Reiji let go of the boy and stepped closer to him. “He also happens to be my father. If you don’t wish to get expelled, leave this room.” After another fearful look, the boy ran out. Reiji looked down at you and you hung your head. “I’m sorry-“ “I know it’s not your fault. I’m going to teach you self-defense. He will not be the last man to approach you like that.”
Ayato
———
Ayato just wanted some damn takoyaki. Why did you even insist on going to class? Why would you prefer that over making the great Ayato food? He paced outside the classroom door, waiting for you. The door flung open and it was only Ayato’s incredibly vampire reflexes that prevented him from being hit with it. You walked out. “Finally! Your Truly was-“ You hurried past him. “Huh?” Ayato followed after you angrily. Why the hell were you ignoring him? A boy bumped into him. “Hey! Watch where you’re going!” Then Ayato saw the boy run after you and grab your waist, then turned you around and kissed you. Ayato saw red. He ran forward and yanked the guy backwards by his sweatshirt, then threw him to the ground. “Don’t touch what belongs to Yours Truly!” Ayato kissed you deeply and grinned down at him. “I’m the only one who can kiss her, you got that?”
Kanato
————
“Uh, well, um...” You stammered, backing away from the boy approaching you. “You can’t seriously be loyal to that Kanato guy, right?” He asked. “He’s so weird, carrying that bear everywhere. You’d do so much better with me.” “No I-“ The boy grabbed your arm and pulled you forward, then kissed you. You squealed against his mouth and thrashed. Suddenly the boy pulled back, screaming in pain and fear, his clothes on fire. You turned in panic and saw Kanato, who looked terrifying. “No, Kanato, please don’t kill him!” You begged. Kanato’s eyes narrowed at you. “You want to save him? Are you cheating on me?!” “No! I tried to stop him from kissing me, but I don’t want him to die!” The fire stopped, the boy unscorched. Kanato turned to him. “I’ll spare you now, but if you come near my doll again, Teddy and I will cut you into little pieces.” The boy whimpered, nodding, then ran away. Kanato looked at you angrily. “Since I spared him, you owe me. Give me your blood now. After school we’ll go to the sweet shop and then you’ll bake me a pie.” You nodded weakly and allowed Kanato to sink his fangs into your flesh.
Laito
———
The boy leaned forward and kissed you. You shoved him away. “S-sorry, but I have a boyfriend!” The boy chuckled. “Yeah, that Laito guy? He’s a perv, I’m a gentleman.” He tried to kiss you again but Laito stepped in between the two of you. When did he get there? “A gentleman who tries to kiss a girl after she says no? Fufu, how pathetic. This is my Little Bitch. Get your own and leave.” The boy narrowed his eyes but left, muttering curses under his breath. “Thanks, Laito.” You tell your boyfriend quietly. He turned to you, smiling. “I need to get every trace of him off you. When we get home we’ll shower together and your body will drown in my touch.”
Subaru
————
“Look, I’m flattered, but I’m not interested.” You said, which was basically just a rewording of the previous three sentences that had left your mouth. The boy stalked closer. Was he always that tall and scary looking? He grinned down at you, then yanked you for a kiss. You squirmed but he was too strong, almost as strong as-“GET THE FUCK OFF HER!” Subaru. Subaru threw the guy against the wall and punched him in the face. “Don’t ever kiss her again, ya hear?” The boy desperately tried to stop his bleeding nose. “Okay, okay.” “Now fuck off.” Holding his nose, the boy ran off, leaving droplets of the blood. Subaru turned to you with a growl. “This is why I don’t want ya leaving my side! From now on, you’re stickin’ with me at all times.” Without waiting for an answer, Subaru grabbed your hand and started walking to his next class.
Ruki
———
“Your master isn’t here.” The boy next to you said thoughtfully. “Huh?” You blushed. Had he heard Ruki call himself your master? You were sure you never called Ruki master in public. The boy walked over to you. “I’ve got ya to myself, Livestock.” Your eyes widened and you nearly toppled over a desk. He grabbed your face so hard it hurt and kissed you. Ruki rushed into the room and pushed him off you and onto the ground. Ruki towered over the boy on the floor, his cold blue eyes like steel. “Nobody calls her Livestock but me. Her master is always with her and if you don’t want to be at the other end of my whip, you won’t approach her again.” The boy scrambled back. Ruki wrapped his arm around your shoulders and steered out of the room, leaving the boy petrified on the floor.
Kou
——
Kou had just finished giving autographs and finally had some time to himself. He passed the library and something caught his eye. You were sitting on a table, which was normal, but you weren’t reading or studying. In fact, you looked like you were inching away from something out of Kou’s view. Kou walked inside and growled. It was the same asshole that had been flirting with you for a week now. Kou walked forward but broke into a sprint when he saw the boy’s lips touch yours. Kou hugged you from behind and pulled you back. “I wouldn’t do that if I were you. Her boyfriend isn’t keen on others kissing her.” Kou lead you away and made a mental note to tell his fangirls to make his life a living hell.
Yuma
———
Yuma hated being stuck inside a classroom, he wanted to be outside working in his garden, preferably with you. He asked the teacher if he could go to the bathroom and left with his hands in his pockets. He heard a scared voice and turned the corner. He saw you were backed up against the wall by three large guys. Not larger than him, of course, but way too big for you to take on. The boy in the middle, right in front of you, who seemed to be the leader, yanked you against him and kissed you. Yuma pulled him back by his hair and punched him. The other boys tried to come to his defense but Yuma easily defeated them. He picked you up and threw you over his shoulders. “Don’t touch her again. There’s more where that came from.” He warned the boys with a fanged grin.
Azusa
———
You backed away from the boy. “Azusa’s so creepy, why do you like him?” “You’re acting creepy too now!” You said angrily. For a second the boy’s eyes widened but he then laughed. “Whatever. He’s a weakling, I’m not. So come here.” He managed to grab your arm and he pulled you close to him. He ducked his head and kissed you. A force shoved him away from you. “Eve...is mine...don’t touch her...” Azusa said. “Yeah, what are you gonna do?” Azusa pulled out a knife. “Your arm...would look so pretty...with a new friend...” the boy squeaked and ran away. Azusa chuckled but then looked at you seriously. “That was...an accident...right, Eve? You didn’t...want to...Kiss him, right?” You nodded. “I didn’t.” “Good...I’m glad...” Azusa kissed you sweetly. “Only I...can kiss Eve...”
Carla
———
If Carla wasn’t so angry, he would’ve laughed. A human like that guy kissing you? His lips weren’t even worthy of kissing the dirt under your shoes. Using his magic, Carla made him soar across the hallway and hit the wall. “You scum. Your mouth doesn’t deserve to breathe in the same oxygen as her. Now go away, or you’ll be very sorry.”
Shin
——-
Shin saw you struggling to escape the grasp of a boy kissing you. He ran forward and punched him, grinning when he saw the broken nose he had caused. “Don’t come back! Or I’ll send my wolves after you!” You doubted the guy understood the whole claim of wolves, but when a guy punches you in the face and breaks your nose, you do the sensible thing and run away. Luckily, this guy was at least somewhat sensible and did just that.
Kino
——-
“Um, noooo, I’d rather not.” “So you want to skip the movie and just do this?” The boy kissed you. You pulled back. “Hey! Don’t kiss a girl like that!” You yelled. Kino and Yuri walked forward, seemingly out of nowhere. Kino held your waist. Yuri looked at the boy. “You shouldn’t touch what belongs to another, nor should you kiss what belongs to my master. He’ll get very angry.” Kino kissed you deeply and shot the boy an arrogant grin. “She didn’t pull away from me.” His face then got angry. “Now screw off.”

Juliet’s Story: A Mistress’s Gift
Mun!Yuki: It is now April 20th for me! :D HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO JULIET!!!! I’m honestly happy with how this story turned out. Because while Leon’s story was more of his optimism, This is mostly in-depth of Juliet’s character where I even explored writing different sides of her; Sides that she doesn’t even show to others except for Leon. This is now my chance to show more of Juliet’s character, and how this affects Juliet as she grew up; Unlike Hisoka, Juliet was born and raised with a normal childhood, without having to bear the responsibilities of being an heiress to the Kuroi family. PLUS THIS WAS LITERALLY 16 PAGES LONG! XD I’M HONESTLY PROUD OF THIS!
I hope you all enjoy! AND HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MY SADISTIC MISTRESS!!!!!! XD
WARNING: THIS HAS SENSITIVE TOPICS SUCH AS BULLYING, STRONG LANGUAGE/SWEARING, VIOLENCE, AND ANGST!!!!
“Here you go, Jules!”
Juliet reached for her order from the Takoyaki stand. “Thanks, Kirishima.” She gave the man, Kirishima, the payment before enjoying her Takoyaki. “Anything for a regular! How’s your folks?” Kirishima asked. “They’re doing fine; Leon is in the process of recovering this year’s Prank.” Juliet replied as she continued to eat her Takoyaki. “Man, I heard about that; I feel bad for the guy, he’s such a good kid.” Juliet simply agreed, “Yup.”
Then there came the question.
“Hey, I don’t mean to get personal when I ask this, but isn’t your birthday coming soon?” The owner asked. “Yeah, on the 20th; About four days before my father’s.” Juliet stopped eating her Takoyaki as she sensed this conversation might become important.
“What do you wanna get for you birthday?”
Juliet looked at him questioningly. “Why do you ask?” She eyed suspiciously. “Because you’ve done so much for my family, not only have you come to our business so often as a regular, you also help babysitting the kids. Seriously, most babysitters would quit on the first day with them, but they really like you, and you even present yourself as a good example and actually take care of them.”
Juliet continued to eye him suspiciously, which made the man laugh. “I know, you rather cut your own tongue than to be assumed to be a softie; Don’t worry, I’m not assuming that considering the fact I know you and what you are capable of; But that still won’t stop my family and I from speaking fondly of you, unlike the others that think otherwise; You’re not a bad kid.”
Juliet’s blue orbs soften from the better understanding.
It’s true.
When she was 12 years old and was ordering a Takoyaki as a regular already, Juliet noticed the tension from the man, whom explained that a new babysitter quit last minute and they became worried as their children were rather wild. At the time Juliet needed money and something to do to get out of the house other than physical training and studying all day indoors, was already being homeschooled so there was no school rules applied to her about against having a job on the side, and had a lot of experience taking care of Leon growing up, so she offered to be their new babysitter. They were hesitant, but since they had no other choice, they accepted. After the first night, it was difficult at first, but Juliet ended up having them listen and do as she said. In the end, The Kirishima’s hired Juliet as their babysitter, resulting them to be good family friends, and now their children, for what ever reason, loved and admired her greatly; It was probably because Juliet refrained showing her sadistic traits and posed as the reliable big sister that she sincerely has been when pushing aside her playfulness, resembling her father when he took care of her uncles.
“So? Any ideas? It can be anything.”
Juliet looked up at him and sighed. “I haven’t thought about it, to be honest; When I do, I’ll tell you though.” The raven-haired sadist commented, “I have to get going. My brother will be getting out of school soon, and I want to walk with him so we can find a present for Father.”
“Hahaha! Well, I wish you both the best of luck! Your dad must be really lucky to have you guys as his kids! Not a lot of kids would go out of their way for their parents.”
Juliet nodded and waved goodbye silently with Takoyaki in her mouth, while Kirishima waved back with his usual jovial grin.
Some time past by once she made it to her brother’s school. School may have already ended but they were all probably in the middle of cleaning duty. Not wanting to let her Takoyaki go to waste, Juliet continued to eat it with a delighted look upon her face as she waited. God, there was nothing that tasted better than-
....
‘Huh...’
After swallowing one of the octopus balls, Juliet stared down at the remaining Takoyaki at it.
While it was true that Juliet normally didn’t like strong-flavored things, it was odd that that fact was contradicted by her love for Takoyaki...
When...?
When did she develop this love for this snack?
She remember being introduced to it by Uncle Ayato, but...
This was just a snack.
So...
“Why...?”
Suddenly, her mind wandered upon curiosity of that one question.
Yeah...
I remember...
It all started about nine years ago. I was about 6 years old. I was prepared to attend the first grade. Honestly... I didn’t like going to school without Leon by my side. But at that time, I was willing to wait a year to be able to walk beside him to school. Back then, I already knew I was a smart kid. And that isn’t something said out of arrogance. I knew because I noticed how different I was compared to the other kids.
“She got it right again?”
“She’s so weird. She doesn’t talk to anyone.”
“She‘s like a robot! She doesn’t even show any emotion! I bet if you throw something at her, her face will still be the same.”
Even the teachers there.
“She doesn’t socialize with anyone.”
“That brat is so disrespectful! She humiliated me in front of the entire class!”
“Yeah, That kid acts as if she knows it all. Why the hell was she even here?”
......
They were all so annoying...
All so ignorant...
It pissed me off seeing them act as if they knew me when they don’t...
Unlike them, I live in a world where Vampires do exist. I was born with the same blood as vampire hunters. My father was once a vampire before returning back into human. My uncles are still vampires. I lived in a different world from other kids. I was what they would call “different” in comparison to their general idea of “normal”. To their words, a “freak”.
This is why I hated ignorant people...
Just because I was different from them, they had the right to talk down to me...?
At that time, I thought I could handle it... because I wanted to get through it and wait for Leon when he attends school next...
But then.. a week after school started, a week before my birthday...
I snapped....
I was presented a flower by Leon. He wanted me to wear it to school because he thought I would look pretty with it.
And when I did wear it..
“What is with this flower?! It looks gross!”
The next thing I knew was that a group of boys caught me in a hold, forcibly grabbing the flower from behind my ear.
“What kind of idiot would just wear something this girly?!! Was it that sissy brother of yours that gave you something like that?!!!”
One of the boys scoffed and threw the flower on the ground... and stomped on it repeatedly with a smirk on his face...
Everything went black at that point...
The next thing I remember was...
A distorted classroom...
Horrified gasps from other children..
A chair within my grasp...
Hitting the boy’s body until it was bruised...
Yelling out the words “WHO’S LIVESTOCK?!!!!!” past my lips...
And whimpering from the bruised, trembling body beneath me, mumbling repeatedly, “I-I am..!”
At that time, I didn’t realize how much I really enjoyed the sight of this livestock on the ground being punished like that. How the bruises upon his trembling body were even turning purple. How his helpless whimpers and cries were like music to my ears. It was fascinating at the time. Who knew it would create a spark within me that would awaken the sadist within me.
I was forced into the chairman’s office, with my parents in the room. While the chairman wanted to expel me, my parents knew I wouldn’t have done such a thing such as snapping if something wasn’t happening at school... Unless I was given a good reason for snapping the way I did...
They later learned it was because I was treated unfairly in the school, with the students bullying me and the teachers doing nothing but watch and snarl at me. They wanted the Chairman to do something about it, but he refused. Apparently, due to the injures I gave the boy, it should be our family that is count responsible even though it was that boy’s fault for pushing me into snapping like that. The chairman even refused to allow me to skip grades, despite my intelligence being higher than everyone else’s. Then, It lead to Mother and Father to taking me out of that damn school. While now I feel it was the best thing ever since that school was just the worst, back then I thought I have failed...
I felt like a failure. I let my emotions take control over me. Because of the fact that I was different...
Now Leon and I would never be able to walk together hand-in-hand to school. All because I screwed up...
When we got home, I locked myself in my room. I didn’t even let Leon in, because I felt pathetic for failing....
On my bed, I held onto my cow plush that I’ve had since I was a baby...
Everything was quiet and dark...
I felt empty...
Like I didn’t care to continue living anymore....
I found myself ready to doze off, to forget about everything...
But then I heard a knock upon the door...
“Juliet.. open the door.”
I heard Father’s voice from the other side. And I felt fear.
Was he there to tell me how disappointed he was of me?
While it was true, I did do things father would disapprove of. But the last thing I wanted was to be a disappointment to him.
“I am aware that you are awake; So just open the door. I would like to speak to you.”
Feeling hesitant, I slowly got out of bed and slowly opened the door, coming face-to-face with Father.
“Let’s go.” He said, making me tilt my head and stand still. “Where?” I question. “We are just going for a walk; Get your coat, Juliet; You don't want to worry your mother, do you?” Father advised. I shook my head and immediately did as he said.
Next thing I remember, we were walking together hand-in-hand, on a busy street. We didn’t say anything. We just continued to walk. I didn’t want to say anything, in fear of the possibility of doing something he would disapprove of as a disappointment.
I could only look down.
That was when I smelt something delicious.
I turned my head to a Takoyaki stand, and felt my stomach rumble. My father must’ve noticed it by how loud the rumbling was. “Hungry...” I mumbled as I pressed my hand onto my tummy. I remember myself stubbornly refusing to leave my room, even when it was lunch and dinner.
My father sighed, but he silently took me to the Takoyaki stand. “Two please.” He ordered. I could only watch in confusion. If there was anything I knew, My father hated strong-flavored foods. This also includes Takoyaki, right? So why...
“Here, Juliet.”
I was brought back to my senses when my father handed Takoyaki to me. Hesitantly, I took it and thanked him before we could go sit somewhere quiet to eat. Once we did, I gave my thanks before eating it. I couldn’t help but savor the texture of it. It was heavenly. I remember being introduced to it by Uncle Ayato when Leon and I were being babysat by Aunt Yui and him. I remember taking a bite of it at that time and the wonderful taste of it, but I forced myself to forget it once we returned home. I didn’t even realize I was already finishing mine and that I was now eating the one Father silently placed on my lap above mine.
“It is quite surprising; You usually don’t enjoy strong-flavored food.” I heard Father comment. Swallowing my food, I reply, “Because it’s different from the rest.”
....
Different from the rest...
Remembering the incident at school and swallowing the last one, I couldn’t help but frown...
I couldn’t believe something like Takoyaki was able to make me forget...
“I want to know why you didn’t tell us.”
I turned to my father in surprise, “What do you mean?” I couldn’t help but question. “What do I mean? If you were having a hard time at school, then why didn’t you come to me or your mother? Even Leon never knew about this. I want to know why you kept this secret from us.” Father answered.
The tone of his voice...
It sounded scary...
Normally, I would be able to handle it.
But this time...
“I-I... I...”
I could only look down...
I felt my eyes being clouded with tears...
Word could barely leave my lips...
My voice started to crack...
“... I didn’t want you.. to see me as a disappointment...”
“What?” I could sense my father’s surprise. I couldn’t blame him. I was a strong kid. I was fearless. I was able to withstand my father’s anger. I never let words affect me that much.
I continued.
“They.. they tried to put me down... If I did.. tell you and Mother... I would’ve felt like a.. f-failure... I wouldn’t be a-able to walk t-together with Leon when h-he goes to school next... I-I-I tried to... n-not l-let it.. a-affect me... b-but...”
At that point, I couldn’t do it...
So instead...
For the first time since I was born...
I, Mukami Juliet, the Mistress of Sadism, the definition of a “Bad Girl”, the rebellious child, and the most dominant sadist you could ever meet...
“UWAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!”
Cried...
They were tears of agony...
Tears filled with shame...
I felt utterly disgusted with myself...
My choices lead causing burdens...
Why was I like this...?
It’s not like I hated myself....
And I love my family....
But....
Just why?
Why was I different from the other kids?
Why did they have to be so fucking ignorant?
Why did I have to be the one in the wrong?
Why was I the only one different?!
I remember all of the emotions rushing through me at once, as soon as I started to wail.
Fear, sadness, anger, regret, shame...
It was all like a typhoon.
All of the tears bottled up within me were released. I couldn’t stop them, no matter how much I tried to stop them with my sleeves.
I’m sure it was quite the rare sight for anyone...
Even for Father—
Wait...
During the middle of my wailing, I felt myself in warm, strong arms.
They were.. my father’s...
“You may have done things that I highly disapprove of...“
I tried to catch my breath, to try and reply back...
But his next words lead me to even more tears...
“However, you are still my daughter regardless.. Both yourself and your brother are always going to be offsprings created from the forbidden fruit that your mother and I shared...”
Even at that age, I knew what he meant about the forbidden fruit that he and mother shared.
It was their love. The forbidden love they shared back then between a vampire and a huntress. Mortal enemies that eventually turned into star-crossed lovers. Their love that was strictly prohibited, much like the love from Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, the story Mother has always loved since her childhood. Irresistible yet sinful. Much like the forbidden fruit Adam and Eve ate.
‘Thank god...’
This time... all of my tears were of relief.
I can’t remember how long it has been since I’ve started crying...
It felt like a very long time...
I believe I passed out from crying too much afterwards.. and that Father carried me back home... because I couldn’t remember what happened next...
On the day of my birthday, it was like before I even went to school. Everything was normal. Leon and Mother were both relieved when I left my room for the first time in a while. My Uncles came, along with Aunt Yui, to celebrate my birthday.
And for the first time in a while, I felt happy.
Uncle Kou got me a new dress, Uncle Yuma got me a set for dumbbells perfectly suited for me as a kid, and Uncle Azusa got me a stuffed bunny. Apparently, Uncle Kou and Uncle Yuma helped pick something out for Uncle Azusa. Back then, I didn’t know why; But now that I know better, it was probably for the best. Aunt Yui got me a journal to write in. And I was received another gift from our other uncle, Mother’s adoptive brother, which was a punching bag. Ever since the incident, My Uncles and Aunt Yui got worried about me. Uncle Yuma was the most furious, but luckily I was able to get him to calm down after I told him what happened next.
It was a fun birthday. But the most special moment for me was at the near end. When it was just Mother, Father, and Leon.
“Our turn!” My mother announced happily as she brought more presents. I could only tilt my head in confusion. “Mother, why didn’t you do this while we were opening presents already?” I questioned. “You’ll see.” Mother smiled before turning to Leon. “Leon, do you want Juliet to open your present first?” Which in response, he nodded and smiled innocently.
Leon’s present? At that time, I was confused. What were they planning? Leon, with the help of Father, carried his present to me, and began to watch me with glee. Now curious, I carefully opened the present and opened the now unwrapped box. I find it to be a small picture frame decorated with the same flower he gave to me the week prior. I look to Leon and gave him a hug. He wanted to give it to me for when I have a memory I want to always treasure. “Thank you, Leon.” I mumbled. “Your welcome, Sis!” He grinned.
I broke the hug to see what my mother had in hand. “This is mine, sweetheart.” She smiled gently. I nodded and gave my thanks to her before unwrapping it. Once I did, I saw it to be a familiar dagger. We all look to Mother, who looked at me with a serious expression.
“I know you are still too young and you don’t have to take the road my family prior did; However, I inherited this dagger when I was your age. It was your grandfather’s. He used it against bad Vampires to protect the people he loved until his last breath. It was the same reason why I choose to inherit it, and it later became the difficult path that lead me to meet your father.” She spoke giving Father a quick glance before looking back to me as I listened carefully, “Ever since I gave up being a huntress, I never used it in years, because the fight was already over; But I still keep it as a memento of your grandfather, to remember what I fought and risked my life for. So I am giving it to you, for the same reason: To remember what you fought for and to protect the ones you love.”
I look to Leon, who looked back at me. Even though we were children at that time, we both knew we wanted to protect each other. Even willing to fight for each other. From her words, I can only guess that Mother must’ve known how I was feeling when I was locked in my room. That She must’ve went through the same thing too. “Now I’m not giving it to you to use it against those who have hurt you like that school did. I’m giving it to you so you can look at it and remember what you have done.” Mother wrapped her arms around me and held me close in a warm embrace. I could tell she was speaking from experience. “You’ve made some reckless and bad decisions, but you didn’t give in to their bullying. You had enough the moment they did something you couldn’t forgive; And although you should’ve told us what was going on so we could’ve handled it calmly, there was no mistake that getting you out of that school was the right thing to do.”
I shook my head, “They were all ignorant livestock, Mother.” I spoke. Back then, I felt nothing but pity for the people back at that school. But now I know better, they weren’t worthy of my pity. They were all livestock anyways. Mother sighed at my choice of words, but I could’ve sworn at that time my father smirked slightly as if he was proud. Meh. Could’ve been my imagination. “Thank you, Mother.” I hugged back as tightly as I could, after placing the dagger away.
After a moment, Mother released me from the embrace and gave me a light kiss upon my head, before we all turned to Father. For some reason, his present was smaller than Mother’s and Leon’s; However, that made them both smile the widest.
Once he placed the present in front of me, I carefully opened his. It was a small box. And once I opened it...
I gasped.
“Father...”
Inside the box were...
A pair of light pink barrettes...
I look up to him with wide eyes.
I was met with a smile.
“Happy Birthday, Juliet.”
I was frozen. But he opened the barrettes and helped me place them in my hair. “Look.” Father pointed behind me, with Mother holding up a small mirror to show me my own reflection. “They look really nice on Sis!” Leon commented.
He was right. It was strange, but I really did look better with them rather than a flower. It was like as if they were made for me.
It... suited me...
Within that moment, I felt tears swelling up from the corners of my eyes and looked to my father once again.
And within an instant, I leaned into my father’s arms, hugging him tightly around his neck, and cried.
Since then, I haven’t exactly cried.
Mother and Father decided to have me be homeschooled; But since they both work and can’t offered to let me or Leon alone with someone we don’t know, Aunt Yui offered to take care of both of us and be my homeschool teacher. From what Mother told me, Aunt Yui was an excellent student who took studying very seriously, and even had a higher grade than even the most sophisticated Sakamaki brother, Sakamaki Reiji. With that said, Aunt Yui became my new teacher. Surprisingly, Mother was right. I was able to learn some new things from her as my teacher.
Even better, for breaks, Aunt Yui made me Takoyaki upon my request. It was delicious.
During those breaks, Aunt Yui confirmed my suspicions when she told me how Mother also went through something similar that I did regarding the school incident. When she was younger, Mother got suspended for beating up a group of girls that were bullying Aunt Yui. But Aunt Yui never knew about Mother’s life behind the scenes as a huntress, because Mother didn’t want to get her involved; Otherwise, Mother would feel like she has let Grandmother and Grandfather down for not being able to protect someone dear to her. Like when she wasn’t able to save them. Mother never even cried since the massacre until she was told it was okay for her to cry out all of her emotions she hid during her hellish training and since then. I can't even imagine my own mother being hostile or aggressive like that. Or suffering horribly and trying to hold it in like that. That must’ve been hard for her, having to carry a heavy burden.
And from what I learned from Uncle Kou, Uncle Yuma, and Uncle Azusa, Father was also the type of person to carry heavy burdens too. No matter how stressful it was, being the leader and the eldest, He often tends to stand on his own, and has even pushed Mother away when she first tried to help. Even he had his own problems that he was struggling with that he hid from them. From what I was told, It made sense why he tried to keep it all in. It must’ve been difficult. Being the eldest and the leader that takes care of the younger siblings, desperately wanting to fulfill the debt of someone for saving your life even when the goal was impossible for you to complete yourself, finding out and eventually try to hide an ugly truth about the one that saved you, Et cetera... Just thinking about all of the things Father had to deal with just made me think if it was with Leon, I would’ve done the same thing no matter how bad it would be for me.
So I was similar to them:
We both didn’t want to be appear as a failure.
We bottle up our feelings to avoid showing any sign of weakness.
We are willing to do something risky if the one we care for are involved.
We stubbornly push others away to stand on our own.
We don’t want the people we care about dearly to getting hurt.
....
Now that I think about it...
Were...
Were Mother and Father trying to save me from committing the same mistake they made?
To hold back emotions and turn it all into stress?
... They didn’t want me to become like them in the past.
They.. really did care for me.
They did love me...
I was really their kid...
And for that, I’m forever grateful...
“Sis!”
Juliet looks up, and sees a familiar blond with a grin on his face. The grin slowly disappeared and was replaced with a concerned look upon seeing the Takoyaki still left unfinished. “Hey, are you okay? You didn’t finish your takoyaki.. And that’s saying something.” Leon questioned, worriedly.
Juliet looked down and saw she has not finished her delicious snack. Picking up one of the balls, The raven-haired girl silently gave it to her brother. “Here.” She offered; However, Leon continued to look at his sister with a concern look. “A-Are you sure you’re okay?” He asked again. “I’m fine; Just hurry up and take it.” Juliet eventually got tired and shoved the octopus ball in Leon’s mouth, catching him off-guard, “What are the chances you will ever get an offer like this from me again? Honestly.”
While her expression remained as stoic as it always was, Leon can tell that there was a glint in his sister’s eyes that told him to not push the subject further; With that said, Leon decided to drop it and just eat the takoyaki.
After that, they started to walk together the shopping area to search for a gift for their father. “Hey Sis.” Leon broke the silence between them. “What is it?” Juliet heard footsteps stop behind her, making her stop and turn to see a serious look upon her little brother’s face.
“... What do you want for you birthday?”
Such a question caught Juliet slightly off-guard. ‘What’s with this question today?’ She thought to herself. “Leon, you should know be better than anyone else in the world; Why would you even ask something stupid like that?” The raven-haired girl raised an eyebrow to show her confusion. They grew up together and know everything about each other. They could even understand what the other is thinking and even turn that into a game.
“I know but.. you don’t ask for anything, Sis.” Leon tried to explain, “You try not to make your birthday a big deal; It’s your birthday, the day you were born! There’s gotta at least be something you want!”
‘Something I want...?’
While it is true that Juliet doesn’t make her birthday a big deal or have anything in mind for a gift, was there really something that she herself wanted?
...
‘Ah... That’s right...’
“Leon, when it’s your birthday coming up and when you are asked the same question, your response was that there isn’t anything you want in particular either.” Juliet retorted. “I-I..” Leon stuttered, caught off-guard by the question. “Why is that?” The raven-haired girl question. Leon‘s tongue was tied for a moment until he looked down and responded shyly, blushing. “It’s because.. the best gift I could ever ask for.. is our family, our friends.. a-and our loved ones...”
There was a silence until Juliet spoke, as it was her turn to break the silence.
“Then you should know already.”
Leon looked up in surprise. His sister looked back at him with a rare smile. A smile that was only reserved to those who she deemed worthy.
“We’re siblings. We grew up together. You should know that if that is why you don’t ask for anything else, it’s not just your reason; It’s mine also.” Juliet responded, revealing the kind side of her that is extremely rare to see, “Do you understand now?”
Enchanted by the rare smile and the rare kind side of his sister, Leon nodded. Out of everyone in the world, it has always been the blonde that has seen this side of his sister the most. That’s why, despite her bullying him and her sadism, Leon knows that there is a good person underneath it all. It’s just his sister rather be known as a monster to others. Only those who work to become worthy enough to Juliet can be rewarded to see what’s underneath the layers of the sadistic mistress.
“Now hurry up, let’s go.” Juliet immediately dropped the smile and returned back to being stoic, “Or else, I’m going to leave you and go on ahead myself.”
Leon couldn’t help but grin before quickly walking next to his sister’s side. That’s his Sis, alright! The one he knows and loves! Juliet took notice of his grin.
“Why are you grinning like that?”
“Because I love you, Sis.”
“You’re creepy.”
“But you love me anyways, right?”
“Do you have a deathwish?”
“Eh? N-N-No, Sis-“
“Come again?”
“Ma’am! I mean, N-No Ma’am!”
“That’s better.”
There was no need for a birthday gift...
Objects are replaceable...
As long as you have a family that care for you...
Friends that accept you...
Just at least someone that loves you for who you are...
There was no need for anything else in the world...

“Boss From Hell”: Hinami really likes working at Aogiri Tree Cafe. Not.
Fic Summary: Traumatized after being rejected by Kirishima Ayato, her first love, a teenaged Hinami vows that she will never fall in love again. Four years later, Hinami is a young woman trying to get by in life. Her painful past is behind her - at least, until she gets a job at Aogiri Tree Café, where she runs into a few familiar faces...AyaHina human!AU
Not many things shocked Hinami anymore. She'd learned how to distance her emotions. It was like staring through the wrong end of a telescope. Nothing could catch her off guard when it all looked so tiny, so far away.
So why was it that just one glimpse of Kirishima Ayato was enough to send a thousand sirens blaring through her brain?
He'd changed since they'd last met. His hair was longer, his appearance neater. She deftly noted the bulging sinews in his shoulders and arms. But the dark eyes and flawless jawline were undeniably his, even if the look of surprise and uncertainty on his face wasn't.
Takizawa cut in before either of them had a chance to react.
"This is Fueguchi-san," he said. "She went to high school with us. You remember, right? Have fun catching up."
He tossed them a malicious smirk before slinking off into the café. 'Bastard,' Hinami thought. What was his problem? Surely he still couldn't hold a grudge over losing that secretary position, could he? No one could be that petty…
Ayato coughed lightly. With great reluctance Hinami tore her gaze away from the door and turned to face the last person she'd ever hoped to see again. She expected to see the haughty expression he'd always worn in high school, or maybe even a smirk similar to Takizawa's. She was very mistaken. His look of surprise had melded into an open glare. His eyes burned, as if her very presence was a personal offense. Before she could even react he pushed past her, pausing only to bark at her over his shoulder.
"Follow me."
Hinami stared at his retreating back, seething. What the hell? What was with his attitude?! Sure, he'd always been kind of rude in high school, maybe even a little bit of a jackass, but he'd never so unreasonably hateful.
'Maybe he's just having a bad day,' she thought with a frown, studying his movements as he led her through the kitchen. They were quick and decisive, different from the relaxed arrogance he'd comported himself with in the past. He'd always made a deliberate show of his strength in those days. Why, or for whose benefit, she wasn't sure. But there were no more theatrics now. He didn't need them. Capability pervaded his every stride.
It made him far more intimidating than he ever had been.
'I wonder if he even remembers that confession after all,' she thought, watching as he paused to rifle through some boxes. 'Like I even need to ask. I was nothing to him in those days. Nothing...'
"Here." He tossed her a bundle. "Your uniform. Put this on."
Hinami glanced down at the navy blue polo shirt. It smelled vaguely of cheese, and there was a suspicious green stain on the khaki apron. Whatever. She’d worn worse. However, as she changed in the bathroom, she couldn’t help but feel like she was wearing a parachute. The shirt was at least two sizes too large. It fit like a dress. The loose, bulky apron didn’t make the ensemble any more flattering.
A smirk danced briefly across Ayato’s face as she returned to the kitchen. It was a familiar expression, the kind he’d made back in high school when he snickered at those that were beneath him. Hinami clenched her fists in the pockets of her apron.
“Okay,” she said quietly. “What now?”
Ayato began showing her around the kitchen. The equipment was new, and everything was relatively tidy. As they reached the espresso machine he suddenly reached over her, leaning in close for a demonstration. He smelled like coffee, cinnamon, and some kind of warm, masculine scent that made Hinami want to bury her nose in his soft cotton shirt.
"I already know how!" she cut in, more sharply than she'd intended. Ayato raised his brow.. Hinami looked away, arranging her features into an indifferent expression as she fought for composure.
"I've worked at cafés before," she explained more coolly. "So you don't have to demonstrate everything so minutely."
Ayato's face twitched. Behind him, Takizawa - who must have crept in at some point during the tour - giggled.
"What's so fucking funny?" Ayato snapped, whirling around. "Shouldn't you be getting started on that bread? Or should I let Eto know what a useless piece of shit you are?"
'Eto?' Hinami thought, remaining expressionless. Whoever 'Eto' was, the name seemed to mean something to Takizawa. His smile vanished, replaced by a sour look. He shuffled toward the pantry, shooting them both a glare. When he was out of sight, Ayato whirled back around.
"And you, since you're so 'experienced,' why don't you get started on those?"
He cocked his thumb at the mountain of dirty dishes stacked in the sink.
"Oh, and we need someone to take inventory. Normally Takizawa does it, but since I finally have an 'experienced' employee, you can take care of it. You can at least do that much, right?"
He crossed his arms with a sneer. 'Arrogant prick,' Hinami thought.
"Yes," she muttered reluctantly.
"We open in five. I need you out on tables. So get to it."
And with that he was strutting out of the kitchen, wearing that same insufferably smug look he'd worn the day he'd crushed her heart on the classroom floor.
(space)
That night Hinami collapsed into bed in a pool of coffee residue and sweat. She pulled the blanket over her head, Saiko's soft snores buzzing in the background.
"I hate him," she whispered into her pillow.
She'd spent the last eleven hours busting ass at Aogiri Tree under Ayato's constant surveillance. Thanks to him she'd barely gotten a fifteen minute break, and even then she'd only managed that by hiding behind the dumpster until Takizawa ratted her out. Despite the fact that they seemed to be having a relatively slow day, Ayato never ran out of tasks to delegate.
"Done with dishes? Scrub the toilets."
"The table legs haven't been wiped down in a while."
"Why are you just standing there? Don't you see those napkins need arranging?"
"If you're not doing anything, here - go stand outside with this promotional sign."
This last assignment squashed whatever little bit of amorous feelings Hinami's heart may still have been harboring. Sure, he was gorgeous - even more gorgeous than he'd been as a scraggly, pubescent rebel; and the crooked smile he gave female customers as they forked over their cash may have raised the ghost of a blush to her cheeks. But standing under the beating sun on a street corner, car fumes wafting in her face for three hours, cured her of the madness completely.
Kirishima Ayato was the scum of the universe, and the reason humanity couldn't have nice things.
She'd resume her job search tomorrow. For now, she'd just have to suffer through it until her first paycheck came through.
(space)
When Hinami got to work the next morning she was surprised to see the lights off and the front door closed.
'Maybe we're closed today,' she thought. 'Maybe Takizawa went on strike. Or maybe Ayato got hit by a car and had to call into work.'
Her hopes were dashed when the front door pulled open easily. The jingle of the bell was lost in the metallic crash of drums and squealing guitars. Hinami glanced around the shop, searching for the source of the music. She followed the sound through the kitchen and to a door beside the pantry. She remembered passing it more than once yesterday. It'd been shut tight, and she'd never had any reason to go through it. This morning it stood partially open. Through the crack she could see a darkened flight of stairs.
"Hello?" she called, but the music drowned out her voice. She gave one last apprehensive glance over her shoulder before opening the door further. Music poured into the kitchen, along with a dull, quietly monotonous pounding sound - like someone repeatedly dropping a bag of flour onto the floor. Cautiously, Hinami began to descend the stairs.
The walls of the basement were brick, the floors unfinished. Light filtered dimly through small rectangular windows on the left side of the room. However, she could make out enough to see a bed and a small dresser. Clothes, shoes and comics were strewn about the floor. A punching bag hung from the ceiling. It swung wildly as a man drove his fists into it with a power and deliberateness that left Hinami breathless. His feet were light, his movements confident. A tattoo of a black rabbit grinned up at her from his right shoulder blade, its monstrous body rippling with each flex of the man's bare, tightly muscled back.
Hinami was so enthralled that she didn't notice the audio cord stretching from the speakers on the wall. It caught against her foot, yanking out the cord with a loud squeal. Shivers shot up Hinami's spine as the man spun on his heel. Then there was silence.
Ayato's chest heaved as he faced her. The punching bag swung uselessly. His eyes were as round and guileless as they'd been when she'd first arrived at the cafe. Embarrassed, Hinami averted her gaze only to lock sight on his naked chest. Her gaze continued down defined abs, stopping only at the first promise of a happy trail just above the band of his joggers.
"What are you doing here?" he demanded, snapping her back to her senses. "We start late on Sundays."
"S-sorry, the door was open, so I -"
"Get out."
The words were quiet, but their force hit Hinami square in the chest. She flinched, her feet rooted to the spot.
"Can't you hear me," he said, voice frigid, "or are you just stupid? Get. Out."
The sheer loathing in his voice sparked something in Hinami. It was the same hot, nauseating humiliation she'd felt building in her gut all those years ago.
"Don't," she whispered.
"What?"
His voice was low, threatening. Hinami swallowed. It was too late to take words back now. She forced herself to make eye contact with him, clenching her fists and fighting to bring her features back to something resembling stoicism.
"Don't talk to me like that."
Ayato's head cocked, his glare softening. Her words had surprised him. Hinami sensed her advantage and decided to press forward.
"I'll scrub your toilets," she said quietly. "I'll empty your trashcans. I'll hold your promotional signs and if you ask me to I'll even sing and do cartwheels and tapdance. I'll do almost anything, so long as you hand me a paycheck at the end of the week. But -" her eyes flashed, and she could feel her body shaking with years and years of pent-up resentment - "I will not allow you to talk to me like that again. Ever."
She braced herself for shouting. For anger, or insults.
Ayato snorted. Loudly.
"Was that supposed to be like, intimidating, or something?" he asked. "Cute. Real cute."
He tore off his gloves, dropping them to the floor. Hinami struggled to keep herself from shaking as he approached her.
"Low-level employees like you are a dime a dozen," he said, bending forward until their eyes were level. "You think I give one rat's ass whether you like what you hear? Huh? Well, do you?"
Hinami stayed silent, glaring at him. A small, rational part of her brain whispered that he was right. 'Just stay calm,' it whispered. 'Don't say anything that will get you fired.'
Unfortunately, that voice was becoming increasingly harder to hear.
Ayato frowned at her persisting silence. "Typical,” he muttered.
Hinami’s eyes flashed. “What’s that supposed to mean?”
He rolled his eyes. "Don't play dumb with me, Fueguchi. You know exactly what I'm talking about. God, you're still just as annoying as you were back then."
Back then…? Was Ayato talking about their high school days? But...why?
"Sticking your nose where it didn't belong, then crying when your fee-fees got hurt," he rambled on, his tone mocking. "Do you have any idea the mess you left behind, the crap-ton of bullshit that the rest of us had to clean up for you? Then you waltz in here, into my café, and try to tell me what to do? Christ, Fueguchi. You must be really fucking stupid."
Ayato’s cheeks were reddening, his voice and gestures growing increasingly accusatory. Without registering, Hinami took a frustrated step towards him.
"The mess I left behind?" she interjected. “I don’t have any idea what you’re talking about!”
“Then let me enlighten you,” he hissed, his voice suddenly low and venomous. “You. Fucked. Up. Everything.”
His proximity was intimidating, but Hinami stood her ground without even a flinch. “That so?” she retorted, forcing her voice to remain even and calm. “I guess you would know all about fucking things up, wouldn’t you?”
Her response sounded rather weak in her own ears. Ayato, however, seemed stricken. His eyes widened before narrowing dangerously. He opened his mouth to retaliate when the door to the basement suddenly banged open.
“Ayato-kun,” a voice whined, accompanied by plodding steps down the stairs. “Where’s my paycheck at? I’m starving and I wanna get breakfast, I could eat a-”
The voice stopped as a man came into view. Two round, dark eyes peered out at them from a babyish face. He ran a hand over his slick blond hair, glancing at Hinami sheepishly.
“Oi, who’s the girl?” he muttered, as if she couldn’t hear him.
Ayato tore a hand through his hair, scowling audibly. “Just - just get the fuck out, ok? Both of you. NOW!”
The man sulked back up the stairs, shooting Ayato furtive glares. Hinami followed, head held high as she felt Ayato’s gaze burn into her back.
(Space)
Hinami’s thoughts whirled as she entered the kitchen, trying to make sense of the morning’s mess. What the hell had Ayato been talking about? Her, causing problems? How dare he make any accusations when HE was the one that had ruined everything, the one who had made an already tragic episode in her life even more isolating and humiliating!
‘Oh well,’ she thought. ‘At least he’ll probably fire me now, and I’ll never have to see him again…’
Takizawa suddenly passed in front of her, drawing on a cigarette and blowing smoke in her face. “You two really shouldn’t go down there, you know.”
Hinami coughed. “T-takizawa?” she stammered. “Why are you here? Ayato said we start late on Sundays."
"Ayato starts late on Sundays," Takizawa clarified, sprinkling ash into the coffee grinder. "Everybody else hauls ass."
The other man heaved a sigh. “Yeah, I know...but I really need my paycheck! Just wanna grab some grub…”
His stomach emitted a pointed growl. The man patted it soothingly.
“If you’re really hungry, I have some snacks in my bag,” Hinami offered.
The man’s eyes lit up. “Really?”
She nodded. “Do you...uh...want some?”
Five minutes later they were standing around the counter, the man shoveling trail mix into his mouth like it was going out of style. Hinami wasn’t sure why she was being so generous, but the confrontation with Ayato had emboldened her. She suddenly felt like reaching out to someone.
The man swallowed thickly. “So, uh, who are you exactly? New employee or something?”
“Fueguchi Hinami. And...yes, I am.”
He chewed thoughtfully. “Mmm, I see. Name’s Naki. Thanks for the food.”
He dumped the rest of the small bag in his mouth, his cheeks bulging. Takizawa watched him with a mixture of fascination and disgust.
“So,” Naki continued, chewing noisily, “how ‘er you gettin’ along ‘ere so far? Ayato givin’ you much shit yet?”
Hinami didn’t answer. Naki smiled knowingly.
“‘S like that, huh?” He crumpled the empty bag in his hand with a sigh. “Let me guess, he probably ripped you a new one for interrupting his practice this morning, right? Don’t worry, he’s always like that before a match. Besides, he's probably just embarrassed that a girl saw him all gross and sweaty like that. Instead of looking 'cool.'"
Hinami ignored this last part. "Match? So he's a boxer?"
"Nah; cage fighter. I'm his manager," Naki said proudly.
"Maybe in your fantasies," Takizawa mumbled.
Hinami imagined Ayato locked in a cage, vehemently pounding his fists into a lifeless opponent as a bloodthirsty crowd cheered him on. After the way he'd looked that morning, it wasn't too difficult to conjure. He'd been the image of a perfect athlete: his torso firm, his arms and legs defined and chiseled. As she sifted through the memory her thoughts couldn't help but linger on his hair, all dark and tossled, one damp curl falling in his eyes…
Hinami shut her eyes, shaking her head furiously. Stop fantasizing about that jerk!
"I know; it's surprising, isn't it?" Takizawa drawled, misinterpreting the gesture. "He was always such a little pretty boy back in school. I guess he learned to fight in prison."
Hinami waited for the punchline of what she thought must be a tasteless joke, but nobody was laughing.
"Ayato...went to prison?" she repeated softly.
"Oops; did I say that outloud?" Takizawa shrugged nonchalantly. "Oh well. Now you know, I guess."
He sauntered over to the oven with a tray full of cookie dough, whistling gleefully. Hinami watched him without seeing. Ayato...in prison? He'd always been a troublemaker, but he'd been so driven and charismatic. She always thought he'd go into politics, or maybe sales. Had he really turned to a life of crime?
And just what sort of crime had he been locked up for?
Her thoughts were interrupted by Naki. He was stooping low, staring into her face like he was observing bacteria under a microscope. Hinami stepped back instinctively.
"Sorry," Naki said. "I'm just trying to figure out which one you are."
"...Excuse me?"
"You're not an ex-con."
Hinami shook her head slowly.
"Hmm," Naki said, stroking his chin. "Then that leaves only two options."
Hinami eyed him cautiously. "I'm not following..."
"Eto only hires three types of people: drug addicts, ex-cons, and dropouts," he explained, counting them off on his fingers. "So. Which one are you?"
Hinami gulped as she tried to digest this new information. Drug addicts...ex-cons…and dropouts? She could sense Takizawa waiting by the oven, listening attentively.
The basement door flew open, causing all of them to jump. Ayato stood in the frame. He was wearing more clothes than the last time Hinami had seen him - his Anteiku uniform, in fact. He seemed freshly showered; the crisp scent of body wash hung around him like an aura, and his bangs curled in damp ringlets.
Hinami bit the inside of her cheek. 'Don't you DARE think about him in the shower.'
"What're you all standing around for?" he grumbled, casting them a suspicious look as he entered the kitchen. "Get to work. We open in five."
Takizawa slunk off, but Naki lingered, his eyes locking with Ayato's for a few tense moments in a look that was anything but friendly. At last Naki broke away, muttering swear words under his breath as he swaggered out of the kitchen.
Leaving Ayato and Hinami alone.
She expected him to bark an order, but none came. Cautiously, she looked up at him. He was staring down at her, his face strained. It made Hinami uneasy. She was about to beat a hasty retreat and follow Naki into the shop when Ayato suddenly stopped her.
"About earlier," he said, taking a step towards her. He paused, scratching the back of his head with a scowl. "Just...don't go in the basement. It's off limits."
"All right," Hinami said, averting her eyes. Inside, her mind was reeling. Why? Ayato was obviously living down there. Was he really that private?
Or was there something there he didn't want anyone else to see?
(Space)
Hinami spent the morning trying to concentrate on work. Without Ayato pestering her every five minutes, it should have been much easier. However, his sudden distance confused her. Had he really been that impressed by her outburst in the basement?
'Doubtful,' Hinami thought. They'd just gotten through the first part of the morning rush, and she was wiping down the tables in preparation for the next wave. Ayato stood behind the cash register, staring dully out the window.
'As if I could ever be intimidating,' she thought. 'Especially to someone who...'
Hinami squeezed the rag tightly. No. She couldn't go there. She shouldn't judge, shouldn't speculate. What Ayato did in the past didn't affect her. Besides, she was already looking for another job. All she had to do was last at Aogiri Tree for another couple weeks. Then she'd never have to worry about Kirishima Ayato again. Unfortunately, this consolation didn't completely stop the thought from seeping through the crevices of her mind:
'I could be working for a murderer.'
The bell over the door jingled. Ayato gave Hinami a meaningful glance. She swallowed thickly, ignoring the rush of nerves his look sent roiling through her stomach. Straightening her apron, she approached the customers.
"Welcome to Aogiri Tree. Would you like to be -"
The words died on her lips. An attractive young man and an equally attractive woman stared down at her. They were clad in business clothes, and each carried a sleek briefcase. They fit the image of an up-and-coming professional couple so well that they could have walked off the cover of a business magazine. Well, except for the man’s eyebrows. They probably could have used a little trimming.
"-seated?" the man finished, when it became apparent that Hinami was not going to do so. He frowned. "Yes, we would like that, please."
Hinami, however, made no move to assist them. She was too busy staring at the woman. Blonde and sleek, neck arched like a cat, the woman stared back, her smile growing ever more stiff.
"Fueguchi-san," she said at last, her words steel. "How many years has it been now?"
"You...know this girl, Mado-san?"
The woman nodded slowly, deliberately. Hinami's blood ran cold.
"Of course I do, Amon-san. She's the reason my parents are dead."
