Fantasy AU -- Denki
Tumblr media
Tag: { bardic storm mage; fantasy au }
Name: Denki Kaminari
Alias: N/A
Age: 16 { VERSE DEPENDENT }
Class: Mage; primarily a Storm Mage
Weapon(s): Staff; though he can shoot lightning from his fingers. And he also carries around a dagger for emergencies, but he rarely (if ever) uses it.
Affiliation: TBD; formerly a mage school
Abilities: Destruction Magic; primarily Shock Magic
Bio: When he was younger (6), Denki’s parents had sent him off to a mage school after they had discovered that he had a ‘special talent’ to use magic. However, when he got older (11), he had discovered himself that he had a fascination with learning about music, and literature. And so he ended up teaching himself about how to be a bard.
Nowadays, at age 16, he’s a wandering self-taught bardic mage.
{ VERSE  DEPENDENT: Depending the verse, Denki is traveling with Mineta and / or Sero OR he travels alone. }
{ Mun Note: I’ve taken partial inspiration from sky/rim for this.. primarily for his abilities and him training in a mage school. }

SAO esc Fantasy AU
Okay, okay, before anyone gets their hopes up (SAO lovers) or groans in annoyance (SAO haters), the idea I have only has maybe 3 things in common with SAO.
1) They're trapped in a VR game
2) If they die in game, they die for real
3) Our main character was a beta tester (optional)
So the basic idea behind this is that a new fantasy VR game, which I like to call Legend of Heroes, is just launching and our main character, Izuku Midoriya, is getting the full copy. He was a Beta tester and/or his father was on the development team. Izuku installs the game, makes his charecter, and gets to playing. As he plays, he would, of course, make friends with people like Tenya Iida, Ochako Uraraka, and Shoto Todoroki.
Personal preference, I see Shoto as the kind of guy who got the game on a whim, or from a sibling or friend and said 'eh, why not', only to go in, random everything, and somehow ended up as a fire/ice mage that is super squishy. Because it wouldn't be a real RPG if there wasn't a magic system of some kind. I like the idea that it's a loose sort of system, that has all sorts of different types that would fit all our MHA charecters quirks. Like Katsuki using close range fire magic that is similar to his explosions, or Kaminari (I imagine him as an archer, for some reason) being able to give his weapons electric buffs to cause stun or paralysis.
For plot, and how it all goes down, a group of criminals, League of Villians or whatever, try to use a local server hostage for ransom. They try to hack the server, storm the main development building, whatever. The point is, when they take the server hostage by removing the log out function, they accidentally cause the in-game death problem. It's corrupted, or they uploaded a virus the infects the server and thus the dive gear of those on the server, or something. Either way, they can't log out, and if they die in game they die for real. The police can't help, and the Dev team knows that they can't do anything on the outside, since the corrupted date/virus/whatever means they can't reinsert the log out button or fix the death problem without killing people.
So, where's the story for our main character? Instead of it being a "beat an MMO to end the game", they have to find the last admin console that's in the game. It was used for debugging while the game was being developed, and left in while doing internal server checks. If someone, anyone, can get to the console, located in a late game area, they can use the console to do a safe server reboot, and save everyone trapped inside. And, so, Izuku and his new friends set off with many of the other players to try and get to the final area and save everyone, and not die on the way.
Notes:
Personally, I would probably set this up in a no-quirks AU.
It can also be paired with a YouTuber Au. I like the idea of Izuku being a game live stream reviewer, maybe even using his set up live stream to help people trapped in the game get messages out to their families?
Depending on what ship you want to use, if any at all, you can change backstories as much as you want. I, personally, love the Inko/Toshinori ship, and would have Izuku's dad as a distant, never present man that tries to buy his son's favor by letting him be a beta tester, while Toshinori is the loving step-dad that likes to help Izuku set up his streams or drives him to cons or game stores.
