          carlos  hasn’t  had  to  rely  on  someone  in  a  long  time.  he  still  doesn’t  like  to.  usually,  he’s  the  one  having  to  stay  strong,  take  care  of  others,  and  be  fine  with  knowing  that  he  has  no  one  to  watch  his  back.

          it’s  different  with  sarita.  it’s  an  adjustment.  

          still,  he  wants  to  believe  that  what  she  says  is  true.  he  reaches  for  her  hand,  giving  it  a  little  squeeze  as  he  sighs  and  says,  “ i  guess  i’m  still  getting  used  to  knowing  that… ”

          he feels bad, really, hating how the world’s gone to hell before his daughter got to experience life like he had. gone were the days of going out for picnics, or to the beach, or d/isney world and now they seemed to spend most of their days on the run and hiding. carlos hated that it had to be this way; he hated that his daughter couldn’t have the life of a normal teenager, and he tried to do what he could to make life easier on her, but it wasn’t always that easy.

          sometimes he was so concerned about keeping her SAFE that he didn’t stop to think about her not having any FUN. she deserved some enjoyment in life, even with the world like it is.

          “ i know, sweetie, ” he says dolefully, brow crinkling as he fights his frown from deepening. he’s sure she’s tired of reading, probably having read everything in the cabin by now, and she probably isn’t in the mood for board games either, but it’s the only thing he can think of that they could do together. it couldn’t hurt to ask, right?

          “ we could play a board game if you want, ” he offers. “ we haven’t done that in a while, right? ”
