#//thinking about sal feeling stupid when he literally wasn't given the chance to ever get an education

Salvatore rolls his eyes as he listens to Dio's beleaguered huffing next to him, unable to keep a sneer off of his face. He sits up, wincing a little at the twinge of soreness that passes through his body as he does, and watches the other vampire through an irritated, half-lidded gaze. This is far from the first time Dio has started waxing poetic about philosophy during the afterglow, and he's sure it won't be the last.
"You knew what you were signin' up for," Salvatore drawls as he rests his head on his folded arms. "I ain't gonna magically wake up and be obsessed with Nietzsche or whoever you're fuckin' quotin' today."
There's another layer to this, one Salvatore doesn't feel comfortable admitting but one he's sure Dio has picked up on: Salvatore doesn't understand half of what Dio is saying to him. He never even attended high school, after all--his education never mattered to anyone growing up, not when there were bills to be paid and mouths to feed. And he's sure it's too late now to learn a goddamn thing.
All of this philosophical bullshit Dio finds so fascinating and loves to talk about is beyond him, and Salvatore is embarrassed to realize it might always be that way. Because it'll be a cold goddamn day in hell before he admits that he might want some help learning more. He doesn't like feeling stupid, even though he knows that's exactly what he is. So, he resorts to insults.
Salvatore allows his eyes to slip closed for a moment as Dio leans back. He knows he'll probably be thrown out any moment now, as Dio's never been one for cuddling after sex (not that Salvatore wants that either, of course--that would be ridiculous), but for the moment he'll enjoy some peace.
At least, until Dio opens his mouth again. Salvatore opens his eyes to glare over at him. This time, though, he considers Dio's words. Most of them go over his head, but one word stands out to him: servitude.
"If you're tryin' to say I exist to be a slave, you're even more of an insufferable goddamn egomaniac than I thought," he says sullenly. "I..." He trails off, as he realizes he doesn't understand enough to even retort. If he could blush, his face would be burning. "S... Shut up, jackass."
