a lot of virote’s character is a love letter to the existential crisis fun energy post-9 / 11, bush era america.
i like pop culture. i like going back and watching trashy shit like paris hilton’s dumber moments on television and flavor of love and real world. you know, reality television when it was its trashiest, most horrible, disgusting showcase of terrible people. iiiii like trashy tv, simple as that. don’t give a fuck about meaningful plots or whatever.
me and my creations are a product of someone that grew up as a teen in the 2000s and consuming the worst forms of escapism during the bush era. the excess and ridiculousness and overall debauchery marked a really specific time in history. i don’t think it’ll ever be replicated. was it depraved and weird? yeah. was it fun? YEAAAHHH.  like… we’re doomed and the world is falling apart, but look at how much fun we’re having!
the 80s and 90s matter too tho. i like to go back and watch the anime that helped my develop this muse too. sailor moon despite the endless gripes i have about it, yu yu hakusho, tactics, ghost sweeper mikami, excel saga, steel angel kurumi, the list goes on.
music. just picked up the 20 anos album by luis miguel. here’s ‘ oro de ley ’ i suggest a good listen, ‘cause its excellent….. gfjslk. mexican city pop??? yea babey
occasionally i’ll go back to my favorite author, douglas coupland. the snark and attitude in his writing really inspires me
anyway, back to 2000s pop culture, i always hang on to references and nods and winks to it all. i will always figure out how to throw in a quote from fergie’s ‘ london bridge ’ even in a serious thread. it’s a talent.
virote’s a reflection of that, but with some twists... he’s your y2k babe, he’s your silver cyber It Boy™, the moment, the icon, the legend, etc.
pretentiousness dies here. pretty lip gloss and crop tops and cute shoes live forever.
