while i enjoy h.ttyd 2 and all, i am just. meh. on ruff's part in it. she's just kind of there as the "only girl left for fishlegs and snotlout to woo" gag so therefore she just pines for eret because muscles.

funnily enough i ship her with eret far sooner than with the other two. but less... comedic relief way. i'm not surprised she became that character, and i know she and tuff are literally just the dumb ones by that point and i will never erase ruff being a bit of a chaotic idiot but. i do think it would have been very intriguing and engaging if they had had her actually be semi serious and manage to win eret the former villain over.

buuuuuut not-astrid isn't allowed to look intelligent or useful so.

( not to hate on astrid, i actually enjoy her in the second film, i just wish ruff, tuff, fishlegs, and snotlout weren't made so incredibly flat like they all had more personality in the first movie )

so yeah the tl;dr is i generally roll with the canon of the second movie but ruff's slightly less... whatever they did with her in it lol

a reminder for everyone... i really don't care if you don't know the canon of my canon muses. especially the lesser known ones. all you need to do is read what i got... no different than my ocs. i am adaptable in terms of verses. i just want to write these babies.

500% honesty idc if you even hate the canon? if you're willing to just understand the basics of what's important to my portrayal, that's enough for me. i want to interact, i want to use these babies is all the situations. my mh babies, nari, red, human verses of the ponies if needed... let us write together! i don't expect you to know their entire canon and every episode or the like! give them the same willing to read that you give my ocs, and that's all i ask !!!

this is going to sound like complaining given the recent context of my brainrot, but it's merely meant to be an observation/thought i had recently. i saw that "be proud of your ocs" post going around and it's not wrong at all. ocs deserve a bit of extra love for being people's own creations, pure and loved. developed and crafted by people who haven't gotten their stories out into the known where everyone can have the context and invest in the story. it's hard to make an oc and hard to get people invested in them who aren't willing to do the basic reading. but another type of character that is almost as tricky to play? lesser known canons. whether they be side characters that were ultimately very little used in the story or whether their canon is just a story very little people have interest in. because the problem with these types of characters is you have a world to build from and you're running with it, but people have even less of a drive to engage because they have the excuse of "well, i have no interest in the canon so why would i bother to read." at least with fandomless ocs, people need to take the time to even read about the character before they know if they want to engage. small time canon characters are often rebuked simply because of the canon they're from is something others don't have the interest in, and that diminishes the interest to read about the character and even try. this isn't always the case, of course, but i've got a few of these sorts of characters on my roster and sometimes i feel its harder to get interactions with them over my ocs. it's just another hazard of trying to sell your love and muse to others. people just tend to forget the struggle because we act like all canons get a pass when this isn't the case. anyways, the long and the short of my thought here is it's good to remember to support your friends' beloved characters. it feels great to learn about a muse they're fond of no matter your interest in their story if they're an oc or their canon if they have it. writing is just fun, and the reading about all these blorbos is part of it.

cleo verses i need to actually put on her page when it exists:

main. post-mh2 movie. cleo is glad to have her group of friends, to manage clawdeen's prefect status, and to be a part of something. she's still learning how to properly express herself and communicate, but she's made great strides... this will generally be pre deuce leaving on his trip ( i imagine there's a time skip between the prefect announcement and his departure ) and the reaper and all coming for now to allow for expansion when that movie inevitably comes out. her father is frustrated and annoyed with her for letting clawdeen take the status of the school's beloved as cleo's roles in helping save the day relatively unacknowledged. he is driving her more and more to make him proud, something she's teetering with in terms of personal desires. nefera is ruthless and continues to make cleo feel like a failure. the younger princess still comes at things with a relentless confidence but she's also prone to seeming more to the sidelines often, feeling broken and confused but never showing it to anyone who doesn't know her well. she's still battling feelings for deuce but has stepped back, not intending to intrude ( partner dependent if deuce is with claw ).

post mh1. cleo has been knocked back a few pegs. she keeps quiet about her role in defeating komos and has fully embraced clawdeen as a hero and newfound friend. that doesn't mean she handles it well, and can still come off rather haughty.

post saving deuce. this is based off plotting i've done with amber where our take on mh3 right now is that while claw and drac are focused on saving frankie and the school from the reaper, cleo realizes deuce is in danger. she manages to find a way to the underworld at the risk of her own undead life being away from her heart... but she brings him back. the two are conflicted on their feelings and mending old wounds... cleo is still figuring who she wants to be, but she's finally breaking more away from her family's influence to take what she wants.

human. cleo's family comes from old money. mainly the oil industry. she doesn't know a life without servants and admiration. but losing her boyfriend deuce has caused a turmoil in her she doesn't know how to handle, but one her father and sister absolutely rip her up over. her father always sends guards and the like with her, ever since his wife disappeared...

#these are not perfect and need more fleshing out #but putting here for when i had the brain and creative power for verses updates #&&. ooc ( the queen sunshine princess ) #pre-movies is just jerk cleo dating deuce lol
