I think one of the kindest things you can do for people with various mental health struggles is just... let people back into your life after they've been absent for a while.

Making friends as an adult is so fucking hard already and isolating yourself from other people is a very common symptom of depression, anxiety, burnout, ocd, trauma, grief, etc. Which means that someone will do the hard work of recovery/healing and resurface back into a world where their previous friends have written them off because they stopped showing up.

So if you know someone where you're like "yeah we could have been better friends but they fell off the map a bit" and that person suddenly reaches out, or starts showing up to events even though you kind of forgot they were still in the group chat... well they may have been Going Through It and you don't actually have to punish them for their absence you can just be glad that they're back.

Happy Pride! Woke up to find that tumblr termed another TS woman without telling her (me) why!

For the past few months, Tumblr has been the source for the majority of my income through people sharing my leatherwork, and uhh pretty stressful to have that taken away.

I have so much I'd like to say on the ways TS women in particular are treated disposably, but I'll keep this short and say it would mean a lot both like emotionally and like materially if u shared this post so I could regain my friends and audience

i think part of critical thinking is also understanding why something works for you, why something appeals to you. criticism is often associated with the negative, so pointing out what doesn’t work, what is flawed or problematic, and that’s obviously important. but the flip side to this is understanding why something *does* work, *how* it works, and to what effects. this is a part of criticism, too. you can, in fact, enjoy works critically. it’s not a binary of criticism = pointing out all the problems vs. enjoyment = there are no problems to be attended to. there will be points of critique regardless of whether you “enjoy” something or not, regardless of whether you think it’s “good” or not, bc the work exists outside of your individual thoughts and feelings (for better or worse). recognising this means recognising that a work is always shaped by forces & contexts that exist without/outside of you, and you have to attend to them whether you like it or not, bc art is not made in a vacuum. like even the most (supposedly) innocuous stuff is not exempt from this, to say nothing of the works actually deserving of negative critique!

The fact that that scishow hrt video kind of quips outright about no one on the writing team taking feminizing hormones is what baffles me like was that not embarrassing to say? I feel like if a big science youtube channel made a video about a more general health topic and half way through implied that there were no women on the writing team you'd be like. "okay why are you joking about that. That kind of calls into question the accuracy of the information you're presenting and also the kind of workplace that is going on behind the scenes". But when it's specially about trans stuff they can just be like yeah we didn't speak to any trans women about that first part lol.
