Shed update- with a solid afternoon's work (and some consensually borrowed equipment) we managed to literally raise the roof and repair the bowing in the central struts:
All that's left to do is finish felting the roof and legally acquire some furniture!
Super productive day today! Started out with some elderflower and raspberry cordial made by the fabulous J before weeding the fruit cage and planting out the tomatoes in the polytunnel.
Also managed a few extra tasks like preparing the birdbath and sorting the tottering towers of ASDA crates with our homemade fertiliser!
Also many thanks to T for the delicious chocolate and rice krispie cake!
Flowers and beer cans alike blooming in our polytunnel at our Wednesday session today! We made some good progress with only a handful of people; planted out our roses into a bed, cleared some tables in the tunnel and prepared some honeysuckle and bay cuttings. Hope to see them planted on the plot border by autumn!
Good session today! We started off by emptying the drowning bins to refresh our stock of homemade fertiliser and watering the seedlings in the polytunnel. Later, we moved on to flipping the compost bins, leaving one of them empty (to be refilled by the generous residents of Northfield accomodations) and the rest covered while our compost breaks down.
We were also lucky enough to find a few fresh satsumas left with someone's food waste donation, and had ourselves a tasty snack while we worked. For those who didn't want oranges, we had delicious cake and curry provided by the fabulous C and J. Thank you both so much!
We're Roots, a Sussex Uni society and community garden providing a safe space for people to grow food, support local wildlife, and meet new friends!
While we've only been at our current site for two years, the society is almost a decade old. Though we've been moved four times over the years, we're currently fighting to make sure that this plot is put on the map for good.
Right now, we see a wide variety of members of all skill levels and identities. Student or non-student, expert gardener or total novice, everyone is welcome here!
So if you live around Brighton and fancy a bit of gardening, outdoor cooking, woodworking, or just a few hours in the sun with a friendly group of people, come and give us a visit!
