Lazarus, the man behind Toys“R”Us®, used the backward “R" because it was an attention-getter. Along with Geoffrey® the Giraffe (1960) and the catchy jingle, “I Don’t Want to Grow Up, I’m a Toys“R”Us Kid®,” Toys“R”Us has become one of the most recognized and beloved brands in the world.

Ronald McDonald is "McDonalds" and has been since 1963. The embodiment of happiness and well being, he appeals to children and that sells McDonalds to parents. Then, there is the Ronald McDonald House Charities, supporting sick children and their families since 1974.

Above are two of the ten images I used on my storyboard assignment this week. For the top one I have included a link to where I found it, and I want to send thanks out to the owner of this page for such an amazingly beautiful image.
The bottom image is of my two little friends, Toby and Doby Mouse. They are two of the characters from my children’s bedtime series, The Adventures of Toby and Doby. Here, Toby stands by in case little brother Doby needs help after eating all that Halloween candy.

Gamification & Media Convergence
This assignment began with me walking aimlessly around my home, pondering my task. As someone with absolutely NO technological "geekiness" surging through her bones, I felt lost and overwhelmed. I feared the worst --- an "F."
When you are unsure as to what exactly you are dealing with, it is best to try and find a definition that you understand, or at least makes sense --- to you. I say this because not everyone's brain deciphers things the same way. When mine sees 1's and 0's, it sees the powers of ten. Other's, see entire universes or even more if that is possible.
So, by definition, according to Merriam-Webster, "Gamification" is: the process of adding games or gamelike elements to something (as a task) so as to encourage participation and Media "Convergence" is: the merging of distinct technologies, industries, or devices into a unified whole.
So here are the three things I came up with and why.
1)   Merriam-Webster's Dictionary: As a child, it was my best friend. Often, when we would ask a parent or a teacher, "How do you spell it," their reply would be, "Look it up in the dictionary." Of course, you would follow this with a questioning stare that hid the obvious, "how do you find a word you do not know how to spell?" To this day, this has got to be one of the life's biggest mysteries. Today, however, you do not need to go to a library, find the heaviest book, haul it to a table, and flip through 100's (see that is what 1's, and 0's are for) of pages, to find one little word. Nope, today, all you have to do is type it into the search bar at the top of your computer page (aka search engine --- I think).  If you are lucky, the computer will list all possible words, you will not have to spell it, just pick one, like multiple choice. Just hope, you choose the correct one.
2) Cell Phone: Today's glorified communication gadget. It was not that long ago that we, bound to the walls of our home by long, coiled plastic wires talked with our family and friends next door, or across town. When I was a kid, we even linked to people we did not know but were a part of our "party line." Let me tell you; it was not much of a party. Seems like every time you wanted to use the phone, someone else had the same idea, and you had to wait endlessly, for your turn. A few years older and you became aware of the lack of privacy that was afforded by these dinosaurs as well. You would stretch that long, curly cord as far as it would go, then shut the door, pinching the cord between the door and the doorframe. Over time, the cord, tangled and knotted, left you stranded in the middle of your mom's kitchen, while she cooked, or the living room floor, while your dad tried to watch the news, in between telling you to "Be quiet." Today's phones have freed us from all that. Much more than phones, they are radios, televisions, video-games, chat rooms, libraries, photo shops, storage rooms, maps, calendars, heck; I am just waiting for the "new" bathroom app. The downside, they are addictive and dangerous, often being the cause of fatal accidents.
3) Classroom Computers: A touchy area, one, which might meet with much debate. My granddaughter tried to share something she wrote with me the other day; perhaps I should say, was not able to share something with me the other day.  She is eleven and may have misunderstood, but kids today are pretty savvy when it comes to technology, so who knows. All I do know is she was telling me about this story she wrote in English class. It sounded awesome. A writer myself, I wanted to sit down and share it with her. I said, "Bring it home so I can see it." She said, "It is on the computer, Grandma." I asked if she could print it out, she said, "There isn't a way to do it." I said, "Ask your teacher; there must be some way." Well, this may just be a misunderstanding; perhaps she will get a copy and bring it home to show me. Either way, the convergence of schoolbooks onto personal computers for students to use in their classrooms, much like we do for Online College courses, would be another example of "Media Convergence" and "Gamification."
Here's hoping I do not get an "F."

Ad-hoc writing Experience
Looking back over this past month, I must say, this has been quite an experience. I truly enjoyed working with both my instructor and my peers as we traversed our way through this "simulated", writing gig. It was interesting watching other writer's ideas come to life, knowing that in some small way, I had helped, a script doctor of sorts. I have, through my educational endeavors in the past, worked on a few projects similar to this one. However, thanks to an amazing head writer, our instructor, as well as some pretty special assistants, this was by far exceptional, a real Oscar winner. As I look forward to the future, I could see myself working in this type of environment. I believe it would be not only a lot of fun, but educational as well, especially entering the field as a "NEWBIE" writer. It would benefit me greatly to gain knowledge and experience from other more gifted and talented writers. I would hope they would understand my eagerness and welcome my creative ideas. After all, isn't that what film and television are all about, new and innovative ideas? The hardest part for me, when it comes to collaborating with others, will be the genre. I think, as we all surely must, that some are befitting of us more than others. Now, moving on to another aspect of my future, can I see myself doing this? For me, the answer is no. Why? The reality is that as exciting as this sounds, I do not see myself in this position. Why? Simple. I am anything but a city girl. The idea of living in LA or NYC makes me queasy. I would not mind spending some time in LA, or even NYC, should the need/opportunity arise, but to live there, out of the question. If I was able to commute, and the show was a perfect fit for me, or perhaps even my own creation, then perhaps I could make LA or NYC my home away from home for the duration. We all have our own styles, which make us unique, and in this industry, it is that very uniqueness that makes you. My uniqueness is that I find joy in self-creation. Sitting alone, quietly in my room, surrounded only by my secret friends, friends who have yet to come alive for the rest of the world. There in the quiet they whisper to me, telling me their deepest, darkest secrets from which great stories are born. As writers we must accept the truth; there will never be another Hitchcock, Poe, Twain or J.K. Rowling. Each unique in their own voice as artists, creators we must aspire to one day be. For, creators - "create"! Great creators - create "Masterpieces"!

MY AMAZING BLOG - EDITED
MY AMAZING BLOG
Tumblr media
Hello again Bloggerettes;
Welcome back to "My Amazing Blog." I know how much you have missed me. So, what are we going to do with our luscious Titanium Black Cards this week?
Well, lucky for you, I have just the idea. Now, before you go getting all crazy on me, thinking that I have lost my mind, let me remind you that I am a loyal follower of Vogue Online Fashion Magazine, and girls let me tell you - what once was old is new again!
Way back in 1995, before you and I were born or even thought of; there was this movie called, Clueless.
Tumblr media
It was based on a character in one of Jane Austin's books, Emma.  Both girls it seems are attractive, wealthy, popular, and use to being the most important person in their worlds.
Personally, I don't understand how that makes them "Clueless"; to me, they sound superbly fascinating. They should have called the movie "Fascinating."
Anyway, this movie, from what I've heard, has given us some very curious quotes that I will now take a very quick moment to share with you.
1. "Well, it’s like -"
2. "Right?"
3. "I was surfing the crimson wave."
4. "As if!"
5. "Whatever!"
I am 100% sure we still use most of these today, right? Whatever!
Moving on - so today's throwback trend comes directly to you from Clueless, that sassy 1995 film that showcased us "Fascinating" peeps, the chic mini-backpack.
Tumblr media
Seen here are on the left, the Fendi Mini backpack. This chic backpack can be yours for just $2,650. What girl could resist, adorable AND picturesque? Just look at all those cute little flowers. As my grandmother would say, "Flower power girls." On the right, a much cheaper version, nonetheless acceptably chic, the Furla Mini Candy backpack, for $278.
Tumblr media
So, now that I have given you a little background on this unusual throwback item let me tell you what makes it so luscious; it's cute, usable, and works well with just about everything. I mean think about it girls, you can use it to carry your makeup. With a little shove, it can hold your suntan lotion, sunglasses, AND a big fluffy beach towel. You can even take it to cheerleading practice. There's plenty of room for your socks, sneakers, and even your pompom, well, maybe not your pompom. It even has plenty of room for all those much-needed sleepover items (Shhh, we won't talk about those on here) as well as family trips in the car, or on the yacht. You can even use it as a purse. It is a multi-purpose backpack whose many functions will make it an undeniably useful gift. Your parents will not be able to say "NO." Not that your parents would ever say "No" to you. I know mine don't. They wouldn't dare. I wouldn't talk to them for days, weeks even. It's cruel I know, but every once in a while they forget and need to be reminded that I am their future and if they do not take good care of me, well, how could they possibly expect me to take care of them someday.
Well, that's all for this week. Time to get out of here - cheerleading practice today, but before I go, here’s the link to one of my favorite sites - Happy shopping!

Be sure to come back next week - I will be debuting some crazy shoes destined to leave your friends "drooling" at your feet.

   Assignment Part II
There are five major character types:
 1. Protagonist (the character arc makes the point of your film's premise)
Elyssa goes from wanting to be popular to being happy; learning that being popular doesn't come with "real" friends.
 2. Antagonist (his or her goal is the major opposition to your protagonist's outer journey)
Carrington, the High school's most popular debutante, and a snob, surrounded by so-called friends, shows Elyssa exactly what being "popular" gets you.
 3. Love Interest (he or she pushes your character to confront their character flaw and fulfill the protagonist's arc)
Ben, Captain of the football team. Although through a rite of passage the Captain of the football team is supposed to date the Captain of the Cheerleading squad, Ben only has eyes for Elyssa. If it kills him, he intends to prove to her that she is far better than a "Carrington."
  4. Mentor (he or she inspires, trains and sets an example for the protagonist's outer journey)
Meadow, Elyssa's cousin and former Cheerleader, is a few years older than Elyssa. Having been there, done that, she now uses her experience and wisdom to teach Elyssa the truth about popularity.
 5. Reflection (he or she holds the protagonist's feet to the proverbial fire and illustrates what is at stake for the protagonist)
Raynie is Elyssa's best friend since Kindergarten. Although Elyssa is trying to pull away, Raynie stands true, never falters and waits for Elyssa to learn the truth.
