Someone would have to be stupid not to see that Sohone was severely struck down with something. What possible illness could he have contracted to leave him this disoriented, this exhausted, this… weak. Not that Sohone was weak, but no way was be able to fully attend to his duties as Guardian of the sun either. 

He looked down at Sohone’s hand. Stunned. He wasn’t sure what exactly what he was looking at until it finally hit him. Those damned snakes. He slowly made his way over to Sohone and pulled the only other open chair up to the ill guardian. He slid his fingers around Sohone’s hand and held it up, inspecting it but all the while being gentle with this Guardian’s arm. 

Normally his immediate suggestion to seeing something like this would be to just cut off the arm, but this was Sohone, he had to consider his options and calculate this… But first. 

“Sohone. You know that I can’t just accept… This. Tell me what happened. Then maybe I can actually come up with a solution, because I’m drawing quite a blank.” 

   the answer leeyoon gave wasn’t the one sohone was hoping for. he hoped he would be able to avoid having to talk about that experience all together, as it was one he’d much rather not recall. with a look to his best friend, then back to the temple that rested outside, he would sigh, and start to tell his story. 

    “ ... we were heading to the underworld. it was this.. foggy area that surrounded the pit necross was smashed into. it was a long ways down, and while mune and glim went to go help with the night temple, i jumped in. i.. got knocked out by the impact with the ground. when i woke up.. ” pausing, sohone clenched his blackened fist. the more he remembered, the sicker he felt. the more he told, the more his arm ached. another sigh escaped his lips.

    “ when i woke up, there was probably hundreds of those snakes. i tried to escape, but i couldn’t. there was just.. so much, and i just wanted to fight.. i didn’t realize how dark i became. then.. phospho came in and saved me. i.. owe him a lot. ” he decides to leave out the part where phospho sacrificed his life for him. the guilt was too much for him to bare, and honestly the less leeyoon knew about his failure the better.

Leeyoon was in a dead sleep when suddenly he heard his door being banged on, who could possibly be trying to interrupt his beauty sleep at this early hour? Lazily, he ripped himself out of bed and to the door. Ready to rip into whomever was banging at the door. He ripped the door open screaming. 

“Now what in the world could you- oh. Sohone.” A pause. “You look like you got run over by your own temple. Come in.”  He lead Sohone into his home without question. While he had no other friends, Leeyoon would never willingly do anything to harm his own friend. Leading him inside, he sat him down at his table, which only had two chairs by it. 

“Let’s get straight to the point Sohone… What happened?” 

    sohone sat down at the table with a thud, pressing a hand against his head to keep himself upright. the room around him seemed to blur and distort, though he still managed to catch leeyoon’s question. the sun guardian would look up with tired, sunken eyes, seeming afraid to answer. 

    “ look-- leeyoon.. i can’t explain right now. i just need your help. it’s.. getting out of control, and i can’t bring myself to tell anyone else about what’s going on. ” he looked down at his left arm, which was completely wrapped in bandages up to the elbow. 

    “ do you think you could.. do anything about this..? ” he eventually added, taking a deep breath before pulling those bandages off, revealing a completely blackened hand. this darkness extended all the way up to his elbow, the end tapering off into streaks and cracks that looked like it had been spreading. the whole time he kept his gaze away from leeyoon, afraid of his reaction.

    it wasn’t often anymore that sohone went to see leeyoon. before becoming guardian of the sun, they would see each other constantly. they would talk about their day, talk about their upcoming duties as guardians, and once in a while get into trouble. they were indeed best friends, even if sohone was leeyoon’s only real friend. nowadays though, sohone only came by when he needed something. it’s not that he didn’t like seeing leeyoon, but his schedule as guardian of the sun demanded his constant care and attention. he had to wait until the temple crossed over the night side so that he could squeeze in the time to visit his companion. leeyoon unfortunately was most likely asleep at this hour, as those in the night were nocturnal. 

    despite all this, sohone would clumsily walk up to leeyoon’s home. while still cave-like, it still resembled day homes, having a door and being well furnished inside. the sun guardian lazily banged his fist against the door, calling his friend’s name. 

    “ leeyoon... leeyoon--! ” he called, unable to speak much more without coughing and wheezing. with one shaking hand he supported himself against the outside wall of the cave, while the other pressed against his mouth. all the while horrible whispers echoed in his head. they called him names, told him to go back into the temple and keep moving, for he would just burden leeyoon. for now he ignored them, as he continued to call his friend and bang on the door.

     It  had  been  a  relief  when  Mune  managed  to  get  Sohone  back  to  the  temple,  but  when  he  finally  woke  up  ——  hooves  clinked  against  the  flooring  backwards  in  SURPRISE  with  Sohone’s  sudden  start.   Hands  curled  up  near  his  chest  as his  mouth  parts  open,  but  it’s  only  when  his  friend  falls  back  down  against  his  side  does  Mune    a  c  t  .    Rushing  back  to  him,  he  extends  an  arm  out.

     ❝ Don’t  try  to  move  so fast  ——  alright? ❞      His  tone  was  filled  with  concern,  for  Mune  knew  it  must  be  pretty  DAUNTING  for  the  other  guardian  to  wake  up  in  a  different  place  when  there  hadn’t  been  any  intentions  on  passing  out  in  the  first  place.

     Ears  flick  back  slightly  before  he  continues.      ❝ Well,  uh   .  .  .   you  were  late  to  our  meeting,  so  ——  I  went  to  go  see  what  was  going  on.   I  found  you  PASSED  OUT  near  a  tree.   I — I  wasn’t  sure  what  else  I  could  do,  so  I   .  .  .   brought  you  here.   Sohone  —————  what  happened? ❞

    sohone struggled with an answer. there was so many things he could say, though none of them sounded right. the truth would make mune worry, and the moon guardian had enough to worry about. besides, if the truth were to come out, sohone would have to talk about what happened to him in the underworld, and that was out of the question. a lie seemed impossible, as there wasn’t a good excuse coming to mind due to his dazed state. 

    “ it’s really nothing you should worry too much over. just.. um-- ” his words faltered, the sun guardian looking around the room as if the walls or the spiders had the answer he was looking for. finally deciding to sit up against the wall, sohone shut his eyes as another daze gripped him. he cursed under his breath, feeling helpless and weak. he couldn’t think-- couldn’t act. 

    “ it just happens sometimes. it’s, uh, okay though. i’m okay. i’m okay-- ” he finished, moving a hand to cover his mouth. it was as if he was trying to reassure himself that he was okay, like he was trying to lie to himself about his ailment.
