ruined by loneliness

you are so lonely. you are miserable in your solitude. you hate that you cannot bring yourself to reach out, to ask for help. you will be forgotten by all who never knew you. your biggest fear is that you will die alone, and you know this fear will be seen to fruition. you refuse to extend yourself beyond the box that others put you in. and it is a box that no one dare come near. you are lonely because you are afraid of yourself.

Sat by his brother's bedside, Tenya found it hard to believe those words. His elder brother, someone who had always been a pillar of strength and excellence, of compassion and drive and power .... he looked so small, frail even. Life forever changed by someone with misplaced ambition and morals.

If it made Tenya feel so unmoored, so shaken to his core – well then, how on earth did Tensei feel? The younger Iida brother could hardly fathom losing what Tensei had, let alone being able to smile – being so certain he'd overcome it.

But that was what made his brother so special, was it not? A symbol of strength even in a situation like this. Tenya's eyes sting with unshed tears, blinked away as he attempts to swallow down the burning sensation in his throat.

❝ Of course you will, ❞ words steadier than Tenya feels, a hesitant smile offered to Tensei. The teen reaches out, hand resting on top of Tensei's, gentle and warm. ❝ I'd expect nothing less from someone as brilliant as you, brother. ❞ And he meant it, hoping the pure love and adoration blossoming in his chest could seep through into his words.

❝ But for now, until you are better, it's okay to focus on recovery. You don't need to push aside your own emotions or health. ❞ A gentle reminder – one that fell just shy of chastising ( and didn't that feel strange ) accompanied by a gentle squeeze of the hand beneath Tenya's own.

But they lacked any real bite, intertwined with hints of .... fondness? amusement, even? A soft spot for the loud pro - hero beside him ?

Perhaps. But if acknowledged, Aizawa would deny it to the ends of the earth, accompanied by a warning smack. Who knows what prying ears or eyes could be nearby – and Eraserhead had a reputation to uphold.

❝ Besides, you know you aren't right often enough to warrant those privileges. You just get lucky, Mic. ❞ Chin tilts downwards, hidden by the layered scarf around his neck. Definitely not to hide the beginning hints of a smirk. Not at all.
