youtube
pretty good apology! very post-ned try guys inspired i think, lol. which honestly is smart - the try guys apology was one of the best received in youtube history.
the "we didn't want to lay people off" bit of the video sort of reaffirms my suspicion that they haven't been managing their finances and scaling well. honestly a little surprised they even mentioned that being a possibility. even a hair more detail than that could have revealed some ugly things about their management of the company overall. not in an evil way, just in a "three guys with hubris and no business experience" way. it seems to me they really did want to make big-budget content without truly looking at the budget.

I loved how they addressed it
I do. I feel like they heard the concerns.
They admitted they were wrong.
They admitted they were ignorant, misguided, and coming from a place of privilege.
I'm happy with the changes and I'm happy to keep my Watcher TV membership to support their goals.
See.... it wasn't that hard to get what you wanted (more money) without shitting on fans, poor set-up, poor launch, poor tech. Someone who works for Vimeo OTT (their actual new platform) said it takes a single day to set up what they did. This proves the rush job. They still haven't addressed inassesible viewing on the new Platform. AKA, desktop only. So hopefully we get there.
But for now, I'm content and happy to continue support.

Genuinely impressed with Watcher's update video, they actually listened to people's concerns and changed things accordingly

im sorry people calling watchers response "too late" are incredibly wrong. they took two days. the original announcement was posted on friday and then they posted their response to backlash the following monday. that's a perfectly normal respone time. they took the weekend to gauge the opinion of the fans, reformed their plan and then posted an update admitting fault. im not saying i think their response was good or bad but it was definitely quick.

they…admitted they fucked up??? and are changing course???
i was so fully expecting them to either say nothing or double down so i’m pretty surprised
the situation as a whole is still not great. and their initial tone-deafness and also just the way they so obviously didn’t consult anyone outside the company about this definitely has left a sour taste in my mouth. not to mention we’ll never know how much of this walk-back came from a place of wanting to save their business and how much of it came from a place of genuine remorse.
but overall, i’m glad that, for once, people with a platform acknowledged that they hurt the people who gave them that platform and made actual change.

you already know how bitter and disappointed I am about this and how I'm simultaneously mentally eating popcorn while scrolling through the sheer chaos and laughing in disbelief but the emphatic part of me that was their fan for like seven years can't help but feel a little bit bad for them (and ryan especially, very likely suffering an ongoing anxiety attack) because in their arrogance and hubris they clearly didn't expect this to ruin their careers that they've arguably worked for very hard but on the other hand, they've made their beds

Anyone who's saying "they remain silent during all this" with the watcher stuff have never been in a situation where everything is crumbling around you and there's intense pressure from some public audience. You are in flight or fight, you are panicking, and trying to figure out what to do. (Whether you're in the right or wrong). They're definitely planning next steps, and I don't think it's wrong to take time to do that vs addressing the situation fueled with emotions.
If you were them in this situation (remember , these are real people, not characters) you'd also be a mess. Not defending the choices they're making or anything, but after I went through something where there was pressure from the public and a group of people and I felt like my life was falling apart, I get it. It's hard. People fuck up, it happens, but I see some of y'all equating this to the try guys situation or Colleen ballinger and it's so not on that level
