Summer's bright smile grew wider as she listened to his words, feeling her stomach do somersaults in response. "I'm glad I met you too. Like, genuinely. I know I haven't known you for that long but I don't know where I'd be right now if it wasn't for you," she shrugged, being honest. Cameron's positivity and friendship had gotten her through a lot recently. A soft gasp left her lips as he pulled her closer, but she gladly accepted it, her hands coming down to rest on his chest. As much as she wanted to fall further into him and forget about everything, it was like an alarm went off in her head, causing her eyes to flick back open, slowly pulling away from their kiss, but still keeping the contact with him. "I don't-" she began, trying to catch her breath. "I don't want this to be a one-time thing." Her eyes looked into his, looking for any sign of disagreement. "If we're doing this, we're doing it for real, or not at all." It was the most assertive she had ever been with him, but she couldn't afford for there to be any loss of communication between them. He was too important to her.
Tumblr media
Cameron watched her with a sweet smile as she continued to elaborate on finding him attractive. He was surprised that she was telling him it, and even more surprised that she thought it. Even with the awards, the fans, and the fame- Cam had never seen himself as anything other than ordinary, and she was far from it. He laughed with her at her comment about his dog, "I never thought I'd say I'm glad my dog attacked you, but I am... very glad I met you" he told her, sincerely. So many months he had spent overthinking, and the second their lips touched his mind went blank. Maybe this would ruin their friendship, or maybe it wouldn't- all he knew was that he really liked kissing her. He wrapped one arm around her waist to pull her closer to him as he deepened the kiss. @summercassidy

"Yeah, but a lot of those guys look good but have awful personalities. Somehow you have both, and that's what makes you even more attractive," Summer explained, hoping her rationale made sense. She meant every word of it. Her smile grew wider as Cameron admitted to giving Maple a treat after meeting her. "I've never been so thankful to have been attacked by a dog," she laughed. Cameron had been her biggest support network throughout the hardships of being back in Kismet Harbour. She wasn't sure if she'd be sane if it wasn't for him. Looking down at him, Summer felt her heart race as Cameron began to close the distance between them, absolutely nothing interrupting them this time. When he finally kissed her, she felt herself melt into him, her hands coming down to rest on his shoulders as she smiled into it. She thought it would feel weird, kissing one of her closest friends, but it felt right, and she never wanted it to end.
Tumblr media
"Now that can't be true, you've probably met like.. Brad Pitt and all those guys" Cameron said, shaking his head. There was no way he could've been one of the most attractive people she'd met, he wouldn't believe it. When she admitted that she thought he was hot when they'd first met, he smiled a little, "Did you really?" he questioned, before continuing, "I might've given Maple a treat after you went back home the day we met to thank her for being a good wingwoman so... needless to say, the feeling was definitely mutual there" he told her, admitting to having found her obviously very attractive as well. Cameron continued to laugh as she got up on the bed to try to move him, reaching his arms out instinctively to catch her when she fell on top of him. Now here they were- his hands on her waist, their faces just inches apart. He was getting deja vu from the one fateful night at her house when her daughter came home and they were on the couch. His heart was racing, eyes flickering down to his lips and he could've sworn she had done it too. Without another moment of thought, Cameron closed the distance between them and kissed her. @summercassidy

"Are you kidding me right now? You're, like, one of the most attractive people I've ever met," she answered honestly. "That day we met outside our houses I was like 'damn, he's hot'," she shrugged with a small laugh. It was true, even if she didn't want to admit it at the time. As Cameron pretended to sleep, Summer let out a whine, climbing onto the bed to try and push him again. This time, however, her arms gave way and she collapsed on top of the man, their faces millimetres apart when she caught herself, directly above him. The laughter and playfulness faded, the only sounds her own heavy breathing as she registered the closeness between them. It took everything in her not to just lean down and close the space between them, her eyes flickering between his own lips and his beautiful eyes. "Sorry," she whispered, finally coming back to herself, but still didn't move.
Tumblr media
Cameron shook his head when she complimented his looks. "You're saying that because you know me. I don't think you were thinking that before we met" he countered, too humble to accept the comment as it was. He did think it was true, however, even if he knew logically that he was a good looking person. She was Summer Cassidy- he thought there was no way she would've been interested in him before they really got to know each other. Cameron's smile grew when she came over to attempt to push him over to the other side of the bed, laughing as she struggled to move him. "Okay- okay, fine, I'll move I'm just-" he paused, doing a loud, obviously fake yawn. "I'm just so tired" he said, closing his eyes and pretending to have instantly fallen asleep. Following with an obnoxious fake snore, he smiled a little to himself at his own joke. @summercassidy

Summer thought hard about it for a moment, biting on her bottom lip before shrugging her shoulders. "Like I said, I'd need to reconsider it. I would see if there was, like, a real reason why you didn't like him other than the fact that he was dating me. If you asked me to choose between him or you, I'd choose you. I've gone without you in my life before and I don't want to do it again." For once, there was no sign of playfulness in her voice. Summer's eyes widened when he revealed he yelled at his ex, trying to think of a reason why he would do that. "What? Okay, the statue of limits is definitely up now," she sighed, getting 'the statute of limitations' mixed up in her mind, "can I please know who it was now? I promise I won't tell anyone. When have I ever broken one of our secrets? Please," she whined, hoping she'd be so annoying he would eventually crack. That usually worked. "I need to know why you yelled. I need to know everything. It's been killing me for, like, twenty years."
Tumblr media
Maverick shook his head when she insisted he was a big softie- not agreeing in the slightest, but there was no point in fighting her on it. She was more stubborn than he was, he knew he couldn't get her to back down on it. "Would you actually not date him just because he didn't like me?" he questioned, not used to being on the receiving end of that kind of loyalty. "What if it's the other way around- what if I don't like him?" Maverick asked, curiously. Not that he thought he wouldn't like the other man, but it was possible. If he was as Summer described then he was sure they would be fine, but meeting the heavily tattooed ex-con brother could definitely still scare the guy away. "Okay good" he said when she confirmed she wouldn't have anyone sing for him, but he still gave her a skeptic glare, figuring she was going to try and find some way to bypass it. His attention was pulled away again by the way her face lit up at the sound of possible gossip; a sight that made him laugh a little bit. "No- no, absolutely not" he said, probably a little too quickly when she asked if they were back together. Maverick was prone to bad decisions but even that was something he wouldn't ever do. "I ran into her the other day for the first time since getting back to town. It was weird. Cathartic, actually, I yelled at her a little bit" he told her, which might've been an understatement. A more accurate statement would've been that he berated her to tears, but he wasn't going to say that. @summercassidy

"I think your face would help sell it. I know I'd read it if you were on the cover," Summer shrugged, not meaning for it to come across as flirty as it did. There was just no denying that Cameron was an attractive man - she was sure he could make a trashbag look cute. Summer didn't notice Cameron's eyes on her, too busy getting herself ready for bed. She went into the bathroom to brush her teeth and apply her night cream, gaping at him in fake horror when he made his way to the right side of the bed despite her warning. "Oh, so that's how you want to play it?" she made her way over to his side of the bed, setting her toiletries bag down on the bedside table with a thud. "You're so going to regret that." She pretended to flex her muscles, pressing a light kiss to her biceps before resting a hand on each of Cameron's shoulders, pushing him with all her might in the hopes that he would begin sliding over to the other side of the bed. The vein protruding from her forehead and the sincere look of concentration in her face showed that Summer was giving it everything she had, but Cameron remained in place. She let out a breath, standing up straight again. "Oh my god, move!"
Tumblr media
Cameron shook his head when she said she was sure his pajamas would be cute, "I don't know about that, I have a plain white t shirt and a pair of sweatpants. I don't think I'll make the cover of vogue with these anytime soon" he joked. When Cam reemerged from the bathroom, he paused for a moment as he just looked over at her. How someone could look as incredible as she did in just pajamas with a messy hairdo, he didn't understand, but here she was. He cleared his throat, turning away toward the bed- feeling bad that he was practically staring at her. By 'practically staring' he really meant 'looked at more for than 3 seconds', but it still felt like a long enough time that it wouldn't go unnoticed. He smiled a little to himself, "If you want the right side of this bed, you're going to have to pry it out of my cold dead hands" he joked, going over to the bed and laying on the right side. "If you can actually push me over to the other side of this bed, I'll be very impressed" @summercassidy

Summer simply scoffed at his words, wanting desperately to reach out and hit him. "Will you stop with the whole 'I'm terrible' thing? It might work on other people, but I know what a big softie you truly are," she smiled, knowing how violently her best friend was going to dispel those words. "I can't wait for Cameron to meet you; you're, like, the most important person in my life other than my kids. If he doesn't like you, then I'll have to, like...really consider if he's someone I want to be with, I guess," she shrugged. In her eyes, it would be like Cameron not getting along with her actual brother. "Fine. fine! No singing happy birthday. Just dinner, some delightful conversation and straight home." She made a mental note to somehow get a cake without him seeing so that the waiters could bring it out after their meal. She would tie him to the chair if she needed to, he was going to celebrate his fortieth birthday. Summer's eyes sparkled, her eyebrows raising as Maverick segued into a conversation about his past. Summer Cassidy was fuelled on nothing but pure gossip and secrets, and she could feel it coming from a mile away. "Of course I remember. I was, like, one phone call away from getting the FBI involved. I don't know how I didn't figure that out," she huffed. "Why? Oh my god, are you dating her again?" her lips stretched into a smile, remembering how loved up Maverick had been with the mystery girl.
Tumblr media
Maverick just raised his eyebrows at her as she rambled on about her crush on the rockstar and why they could never be together. "That was a whole lot of words" he said back, not wanting to dignify her trying to justify it to herself with a response. He thought the whole thing was total bullshit and that they would end up dating once she got past it, but he wasn't going to point it out. She would get there eventually on her own time. "I'll meet him, I don't care. Are you sure you want me to meet him though? I might just scare him away" he said, half jokingly. He wasn't going to do anything on purpose to scare the guy away, but there were many people who found him intimidating. Meeting the brother figure of your prospective future girlfriend wasn't as fun when the brother was a heavily tattooed felon, or so he heard. "It's one dinner- and if anyone starts singing happy birthday I will walk out." he said, pointing over at Summer, knowing that she was going to try to pull something like that on him. Maverick just smiled a little when she took the bet, "It'll be the easiest $100 I ever made" he bragged prematurely, knowing that the two of them made a lot of bets in their lifetime and he usually won them. "Speaking of dating-" he started, before pausing, "Do you remember uh-.. when I dated that girl and I couldn't really tell you about it?" @summercassidy

"Because I was embarrassed, Quentin. I let everyone's words get into my head and I made a bad decision. I fired my whole team after that; I don't speak to any of them anymore." Upon reflection, she knew she had crossed the line with the press stories, and nothing she said could fix that, but she wanted to be able to show Quentin that she was trying to change, even if he didn't quite believe it yet. As the conversation truly changed to Summer's job and the way the industry had treated her, all signs of the previous anger that had flushed her cheeks and narrowed her eyes seemed to leave, replaced with a genuine sadness. Her eyes brimmed with tears, for once avoiding Quentin's gaze. They had never actually discussed what had happened to make her flee the city like a crime scene, but for the first time, Summer could see that he had always had it figured out anyway. "It'll be different soon," her voice was practically a whisper, a sharp juxtaposition to the yelling she had been doing only minutes previously. "Someone else is going to speak up and they're going to believe her, and then I can go back to work." The longer she said it, the less she believed it. Still, she clung to the words like a child with a security blanket." She sighed and nodded at his apology, wanting desperately to question his comment about her 'blowing up' but deciding against it, wiping the rogue tears from her cheeks instead. "I think I'm going to take a rain check on dinner. I'll let you and the kids be alone."
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"How about because you never owned up to it? It got swept under the rug. You shouted that we would be done and the next time we spoke you were right back at the nicknames and old Summer. I don't just lay down and accept it anymore, Summer. Why is it so hard to just understand that for once I would just like to have a conversation properly closed." He gestured with his hands, yet surprisingly not aggressively. He only turned them to fists when he threw her injury at him, placing them on the counter as he leaned against it. "Oh come on Summer you know that's not what I said. You've been great since you came back here last year. I can see it in Sadie, I can see it in Luke. I'm talking about when you decided your work was more important you decided not to join our flight. When you stayed here, when you didn't even contest the divorce, none of it." He huffed, shaking his head. He knew she loved her job, knew that it was everything to her. "And how much do you love it now, huh? Google your name and you know what shows up. Excuse me for always having kept your safety in mind. You're generous, funny but you're naive, Summer. It was bound to happen that someone took advantage of you and dragged you through the mud when you turned them down-- And that's not your fault, before you accuse me of that too. You're great at what you do, it was just never a world that would be great to you. We just wanted you to spend less time with them and more with us." Hot air filled his lungs, never one to not take the blame where it was due. "I'm sorry I didn't tell you. I was selfish in wanting to stay in my bubble, I should have told you." Whether she believed his apology was genuine or not was not his biggest concern, even if it was. They were up in their emotions anyway, it would most likely fall on deaf ears. "And for the record, she's not sleeping here when I have the kids. She visits, but she only stays the night when they're at your place. If you had simply asked before exploding in my face about it, I would have told you." Cutting into the lettuce with fierce and sharp movements perhaps wasn't the most clever idea, but he made sure to keep his fingers far from the blade. "I'm fully aware you're here, Summer." @summercassidy

Summer didn't really understand why Renee sounded offended by that. Was she really supposed to remember the personal lives of every single person in the town? Did everyone else do that? Frankly, she should have counted herself lucky that Summer even knew her name. Her eyebrows furrowed together as she shook her head, quickly losing patience with the conversation. "Of course I wouldn't want that to happen. Like I said, she's my sister." With a huff, she rose to her feet, realising that they were going to go around in circles for the entire night. "Well, this has definitely been helpful. Thank you so much," her voice was dripping in sarcasm as she spoke, grabbing her bag and hooking it around her shoulder. "I'll be sure to let you know what happens."
Tumblr media
END
"No, Summer, I don't." Frankly, Renee wanted to be surprised that she didn't know that but again, from what it had always sounded like, Summer didn't notice anything that didn't benefit her. "It's always just been me and my mom." Not that she owed Summer an explanation to the statement. A sigh escaped her own lips, looking back over at her plate. Her appetite was lacking since the conversation started and she merely played with a fry on her plate while she listened to the other woman. "Do you think that? Or do you want that to happen?" Renee looked back up at the blonde, "I don't think you know her as much as you want to and if you wanted back in her life, that might be the first thing to realize." @summercassidy

Summer smiled and nodded, happy that they had come to a mature decision. They were friends, right? Friends could share a bed together. She used to have sleepovers with Maverick all the time, she was sure it would be no different than that. "I'm excited to see your pyjamas. Something tells me they're going to be the cutest thing ever," she smiled once they were over the initial awkwardness of sharing a room. Whilst Cameron was changing, Summer was pulling on her own sleepwear, wanting to curse herself for not thinking through the possibility of not being alone. She had opted for a simple white tank top and a pair of over-sized boxer shorts, always one to be too warm when in bed. Still, she reassured herself that it would be fine. She was just finishing pulling her hair into a messy braid to protect her hair overnight when Cameron reemerged from the bathroom, throwing him a smile as she grabbed her own huge toiletries bag. "What side of the bed do you sleep on? Because if you try to tell me it's the right, we're going to have our first argument," she teased.
Tumblr media
Cameron just watched her as she tried to come up with a solution to the bed situation. He didn't mind sharing the bed, but he didn't want to suggest it and possibly make her uncomfortable so he was perfectly fine with sleeping on the small couch. It wouldn't feel so good in the morning, but he could handle it if he needed to. "I'm okay with sharing the bed if you are, that's totally fine." he told her with a small smile, "I'm okay without the pillow barrier though, I promise I'll stay on my side of the bed" Cameron continued to assure her. Her comment about her unwillingness to sleep on the couch made him laugh, "As if I would ever make you sleep on the couch." he shook his head, knowing that he wouldn't have let her even if she insisted. After a few more moments, Cam let his hand fall from her arm, "I'm going to change into my pajamas and brush my teeth, we should probably get ready to get right to bed, we're getting up pretty early" he suggested, though there was no part of him that actually wanted to head to sleep. He'd stay up all night talking to her if she wanted, he could deal with being tired tomorrow, it would've been worth it. He opened his bag before pulling out his toiletries and a change of clothes, going into the bathroom to get ready for bed, reemerging in the room a few minutes later. @summercassidy

Summer frowned at her words, almost wanting to vocalise her hurt that Prue would think she would do something like that, before remembering that she did exactly that mere months before. She hated who she was sometimes when spurred to anger. "I really, really want to get to know you, Prue. You're my little sister. I know I'm terrible at showing it, but that actually means something to me. You're, like, some of the only family I have." Their dad was still alive and only a matter of miles away from them, but Summer wouldn't go as far as to consider him family, and she was sure Prue was the same. Her face lightened slightly as Prue fell into talking about romance with her, something she firmly believed sisters should discuss with each other. "I don't think he's the type to, like, date someone just for a rebound. He's nice, you know? And he's passionate. He really cares about people." It took everything in her to prevent the huge smile that took over her features when she thought about Cameron. Her eyebrows raised as Prue divulged the information, forcing herself not to press too much. "Love? Oh wow. Babe, if you really feel that way then you can't just sit back and let it pass you. Do you think she could feel the same way?"
Tumblr media
Prue took a deep breath and let out a sigh. While she did appreciate Summer wanting to learn things about her, it was hard for her to just open up to her sister. She felt so much towards her: abandonment, resentment, anger. She just didn't know if she could let herself open up to Summer and talk to her about all these things. She wasn't sure if she could trust this. "And you want to get to know me? After seventeen years? Not just use whatever I say against me and not really listen to me?" She asked, tensing her jaw for a moment as she looked down then back over at Summer. Hearing her talk about this guy she seemed to like was a little strange, but maybe it was some kind of peace offering to get a jump start for that sisterly bonding she wanted to do. "Are you worried it'll be some kind of rebound thing and you want it to be more than that?" She asked curiously before taking a deep breath. "Definitely not." Prue told her, but shrugged. She wondered how much she should say, going back and forth if she wanted to be open like Summer was or just be vague. "I mean, I flirt all the time. One woman I do flirt with a lot." She told her before sighing. "But, there is... someone I want to be with. I think I may even be in love with her. I just... I don't know if she would want me. And if she does, I'll probably screw it up and ruin our friendship so..." @summercassidy

"I am sorry, Quentin. You don't get to tell me how I feel. I know what I did was messed up; why do you think I moved here? I made a mistake, and you just won't let me forget about it." She let out a hollow, fake laugh, the anger increasing. "There's no way you're serious right now. I didn't choose our kids? I have the fucking scars to show that I did just that. I risked my life for our daughter. How dare you tell me I didn't choose them. I would choose them every time in this life and the next. I loved my job and I loved how it made me feel - you're the one who turned it into my enemy." It was like deja vu; they would always revisit the same old fights, their wounds never quite healing before the stitches were ripped off. "I didn't visit because I didn't think I was welcome, Quentin. You packed up everything and left me in Los Angeles. I woke up and my kids were gone." She shook her head, wanting nothing more than to scream. "Why can't you just admit that some of this is your fault? This conversation was about you and how you didn't tell me there's a woman sleeping in the same house as my children, and somehow again it comes back to what a horrible bitch I am. It's not fair, Quentin, and I won't do it anymore." She scoffed when he turned around, not letting him out of the conversation that easily. "Really, that's it? You're just going to act like I'm not here now?"
Tumblr media
He let out a laugh at her words, shaking his head. But it sounded off. He wasn't amused in the slightest. "No I will not let this go because you aren't sorry in the slightest. You can't even see that what you did was so messed up, I know I'm not bloody perfect, but I know that when it came down to it I chose our kids and you decided not to. And before you start again no, I never asked you to stop your job, just to put some more effort into us -- this family. Though I wish I had told you to quit because look how you ended up. Discarded by a world and tossed aside with lies, slander and God knows what else. I will own up for many mistakes in my life, but not this one. Not when I allowed myself some happiness that I kept from myself for so long waiting for you to realise we were important enough to stay instead of just visiting once in a while, was that too much to ask?" He huffed at her swearing, hands set on the counter to take a breather. "But you're right, I was wrong. I did make a mistake thinking that this time it would have been different and you would have stayed and not break whatever we had left. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice.." He inhaled sharply, refusing to even look into her direction as he picked up the knife again, aggressively cutting the lettuce. @summercassidy

Summer sighed, suppressing an eye roll as her date continued talking about his favourite football team, something Summer would never find interesting. It was as if he had forgotten he was on a date, or that he even had someone sitting opposite him. "I'm going to go to the bathroom," she muttered, unsure if he had even registered her departure as she made her way into the bathrooms, immediately scanning the room for a decent-sized window she could escape from. Nobody ever told her how torturous dating was in her thirties.
She let out another deep sigh as she rested her hands on either side of the porcelain sink, just realising there was someone else in the toilets. She seemed just as over it as Summer did, and she threw her a soft smile. "Are you okay, babe?" she asked, realising the woman was just standing in the mirror, and it didn't seem like she was waiting on anyone.
Tumblr media
Rustica Steakhouse was a little fancier than what Katie was used to. But for some reason, she decided to put on a tight black dress and matching trench coat, all so she could go out to dinner. Alone. Again. She didn't even know why she was doing this. Everyone here seemed to be with someone, but what was she doing? Jack. Shit.
She had become so uncomfortable with the noise in the restaurant, however, that she'd wound up retreating to the women's restroom. Popped a Xanax and was now staring at her reflection in the mirror, deep in thought. I should have just stayed home.
She really should have stayed home. She'd been taking her mom's advice and trying to 'get out more,' but it was hard to make the most of these outings when she felt like her heart was going to lunge out of her throat.
But at least the Xanax seemed to be taking effect. Little by little, she was starting to feel more at ease. Finally. @summercassidy

Summer's eyes widened when Roman revealed he didn't know what a Green Goddess salad was, letting out a dramatic gasp. "Oh my god, your life is about to change. It's, like, just a bunch of usual salad ingredients, but with a dressing that has basil, spinach, garlic, walnuts and...other stuff in it," she frowned, unable to remember. "It's so good with tortilla chips." It definitely was a staple of the LA influencers, but she had brought it over to Oregon with her.
"I'll just push it into my purse, don't worry. I'm totally a collect-o-maniac," she joked with a smile, not realising it was kleptomaniac. "Oh my god, please, steal away. I'm never going to finish all of this anyway, even though it's so good," she laughed as she lifted a fry, groaning in satisfaction as she ate it. "So, did you always want to be a chef?" she asked, wanting to know more about the mysterious man in front of her. "Or did you just end up doing it?"
Tumblr media
"A Green Goddess salad? What does that involve?" Roman asked. It sounded like something you'd find in LA, or maybe San Francisco. He wasn't opposed to salad - the diner sold several, including his own take on the Caesar salad - so long as it was tasty and well-balanced. A bowl of leaves wouldn't cut it for him, ever.
"Join you? Uh... Sure. If you want." Roman chuckled softly. He wasn't busy, and he couldn't complain about having the company of a beautiful woman. "I don't know about the five thousand, but I can grab you a to-go box for whatever you don't finish... Unless you get a thrill from slipping them into your purse when I'm not looking. I shouldn't be seen stealing a customer's fries off their plate."

Summer let out a deep sigh, growing more frustrated with the conversation as it progressed. She had always viewed Renee as a wallflower, and she thought it would be easy to get what she wanted. She hadn't planned for her determined loyalty to her little sister. "Babe, do you have any sisters?" she asked, genuinely unsure; she had never taken an interest in Prue's friends before. "If you did, you'd totally know how we can have our ups and downs. Personally, I think Prue would be, like, really mad at you if she thought that you were getting in between her and her family," she shrugged. "But that's just an observation."
Tumblr media
The silent few seconds had been hopeful for Renee. Perhaps Summer would take what she said as answer enough and walk away. However, Renee knew that was a hopeful thing to think. "I am being helpful to Prue," there was a bout of confidence, protectiveness for the woman she had been close with her entire life, "if she wanted you in her life, she would have done so. You should know that about Prue. She doesn't do anything she doesn't want to do." @summercassidy
