She hadn’t realized that he had slowed down until he was completely stopped, which had her backtracking in her movements so that she wasn’t pulling him along. Magie watched with a confused look in her eyes, unsure of what exactly was happening until he kissed her. She tensed for out of surprise for a split second before immediately relaxing into the sweet gesture. Her hand went to his shirt to stabilize herself and she allowed her eyes to slide shut until he smiled against her. Magie’s face was warm and she could practically hear her heart beating out of her chest. The sound quieted once he spoke.
Hearing him say that she was in the clear made her visibly relax in a way she didn’t know was possible. She was always worried that it was her fault, used to having the blame pushed onto her, so to hear that she hadn’t done anything wrong was... freeing. “Blood?” Magie asked, pulling away from him for a moment to glance at the leash. She had forgotten the stain was there, but when she saw it, she had remembered exactly why. Magie swallowed hard and reached into her purse, pulling out a capped bottle of water. She gently took the leash from Kenny and worked the water into the fabric, rubbing out the stain until it was there no longer. “See? All good,” she told him with a half-hearted smile.
“Oh hush,” Kenny huffed despite his smile, seemed all too happy to have her at his side as he washed the dishes with her. The extra help made it go so much quicker, and he quickly finished. While Magie tended to Lavender, Kenny quickly got himself dressed, giving Princess some good scratches and belly rubs for a couple minutes before he was returning to Magie’s side, his dog obediently following him without need of a leash.
“Yeah!” He hummed, smiling wide. Kenny gave her a hand a gentle squeeze, looking to where the dog leash was and wrinkling his nose at the few red stains still on it, making a note to wash it later before his attention was on Magie and he leaned down that little bit to press a kiss to her forehead. “Yeah! I’m good to go!” He said, accepting the sudden tight hug Karen gave him as Kevin gave her a nod and a simple, “No problem, I’m glad I could help.”

It took her a moment to notice that something was off with Kenny, that he wasn’t as excited like he had been over breakfast. Lavender replied to Princess with a soft bark, her tail matching the pace of the other dog’s. Magie glanced up at Kenny, noticing his subtle features as they walked. “Did I- um did I do something wrong?” Magie asked, unsure of why his mood had changed so quickly. She couldn’t recall anything that she had said that could’ve been bad or inconsiderate. Was it that she had stayed the night? Her nightmare? The talk they had that was finally catching up to him?
Lavender could tell Magie was slowly growing more distressed as she failed to gather a plausible answer, so she moved over to her side, tail thumping against the back of Magie’s thigh. It helped steady her and she gave her dog a grateful pat. “I just can tell that you don’t seem as... happy, you know? Not that I’d expect you to be considering everything that had happened. I’m sorry if it was something that I had done, or if it was breakfast. Maybe I should’ve offered to make it fresh,” she rambled, the words becoming more muttered the more she spoke. Lavender barked at her, a friendly way of silencing the girl as she blushed and looked at the floor while they walked. “I just want you to be okay,” she settled.

She smiled at the squeeze to her hand before her eyes met with the stained leash, her heartbeat sounding quickly at the sight. “Is that-” Magie stopped herself, physically biting the inside of her cheek to keep from saying anything else on the topic as she turned away after his kiss. She offered a hug to the other siblings as means of saying goodbye before joining back up with Kenny, Lavender standing at her side. Magie exited first, the sunlight hitting her. She felt like a flower, especially since her mood lifted instantly at the warmth that set into her bones.
Lavender seemed to enjoy it too, laying on the ground and wriggling with an excited pant. “V, let’s go. You can go absolutely wild with Princess later,” Magie promised as her dog stood and returned. She comfortably slipped her hand into Kenny’s leaning her head on him as she began to lead him the short distance to her place. “What did you want to do today besides invite Leo our to dinner?” she asked, sparing a glance up at him before scanning their surroundings. The last thing she needed were more criminals coming out of the blue to attack the man she cared so much about.
“Oh hush,” Kenny huffed despite his smile, seemed all too happy to have her at his side as he washed the dishes with her. The extra help made it go so much quicker, and he quickly finished. Magie couldn’t deny her own excitement that was building up in her chest. She was more than happy to spend the day with Kenny, to make up for what was lost the day before. She laughed at Kevin, thankful that she had finished her food or else she’d be in the exact same position as Kenny. She wanted to stand up and help him by patting his back or anything that’d make Kenny feel better, but he seemed to recover after a moment or two after Kevin read her mind. “Take it slow,” Magie teased once he was able to catch his breath. She stood to help him with dishes, laying a head on his shoulder before kissing his cheek.
It didn’t take too long to clean up and once they were done, she went to cater to Lavender, giving her morning love while she waited for Kenny to finish getting dressed. “Kevin, I swear you’ll have your clothes back tonight,” Magie promised, not wanting to wear her own clothes now that she knew what happened to them. What a shame, she had liked that shirt. She smiled when she saw Kenny, standing from her squatting position in front of her dog. “Ready to head to my place? We can talk about plans on the way there,” she suggested, moving close enough to him to meet his gaze comfortably.
Karen seemed to melt into the little hug as well, both the younger McCormick’s affectionate as could be. Even Kenny leaned down to press a kiss to the top of his sister’s head before he took a seat between Magie and Kevin with his own bowl. The two younger siblings grinned at each other, didn’t hesitate to dig into their own food as Kevin shook his head fondly, offered a polite smile to Magie. “Later on, yeah.” He agreed, rolling his eyes when Kenny’s bright blues flickered up to him from his food.
“Skipping today!” The blond gleefully announced - all too loud for the somewhat early hour, didn’t even need to explain why before Kevin smiled wider and ruffled his hair, slowly eating his own breakfast. “I work at the mechanics a ways down the road. Ken works with me sometimes,” He explained Kenny’s outburst easily, so used to it. Used to his siblings. “Don’t worry, I take breaks. I only have the one job anyway.”

Magie was trying to think of a gift to give the McCormick family as means of saying her thanks for letting her crash at their place. Knowing what she knew now about Kenny’s curse, she probably would’ve just woken up tired and sad without an explanation, but now she felt awake and was ready to spend the day with the sweet blond boy she had woken up to. “Well, then I hope you have a great day at work,” she wished, taking another bite of her food. God, Kenny was right: he does make fantastic pancakes. She laughed a little at Kenny’s energy, glad that he was in a good mood considering their dark conversation in the early hours of the morning.
“Makes sense,” she nodded. Kenny did say that he took a lot of jobs and him working with his brother on occasion wasn’t too much of a surprise to Magie. “I’m glad you pace yourself, though. Burnout is never a good thing to experience.” She knew that from experience, sleeping for nearly a whole day on her couch after coming home from work, not wanting to go back to her job. Magie made small talk with the family while they ate, enjoying her morning with these incredibly sweet people. “Kenny, did you think about what you wanted to do today? We have to stop by my place so I can change, but I’m okay with whatever you want to do,” Magie asked as she set her fork down on her cleared plate, full from the pancakes.

She smiled at his reaction to her combing his hair, it was incredibly cute and it made her want to pull him into the bed so that they could cuddle and go back to sleep. His remark about wanting food snapped her out of that though and left her laughing as she entered the kitchen, Lavender close by. Magie began to set up the plates and forks, remembering where they had been from the night prior. It was the least she could do after this family showed her endless amounts of kindness and hospitality. When they walked in, Magie offered them a smile and a quick, “Good morning,” before she grabbed a few pancakes from the stack.
As she passed by Karen, she gave the girl a quick hug before taking a seat. “Did you both sleep well?” Magie asked, cutting into her pancake after pouring a bit of syrup on it. She prayed that they hadn’t heard her breakdown that had taken her over in the middle of the night, a thought that left her chewing a bit slower as she tried to process what the tears were even about. The memory danced at the edges of her mind and when she finally was able to grab it, she swallowed hard. “Are you working today, Kevin?” she spoke up after a moment or two to avoid the thought from taking over her emotions. “I don’t know how much you’ve been working, but I do know a break is beneficial.”
Kenny slept about as well as he could expect, always sprawled out with one arm wrapped tight around Magie each time she woke. Even in his sleep, he refused to let go of her, needed to keep her close and it seemed like that helped stave off any nightmares he’d normally have. It was the best he’d slept in ages, dead asleep with happy dreams in his head for once.
When he woke up, he was a bit groggy, but he still slowly pulled himself up from the bed. Part of him wanted to curl back up with her and sleep the day away, but he was determined to ensure he made a wonderful breakfast for her. He barely held in a laugh when Magie spoke, uttering a soft, “Aw,” over how sleepy she seemed. He didn’t mind, happily leaning down to press a kiss first to her forehead, then a quick peck to her lips before he was getting up, stretching his arms above his head. “You sleep more,” He murmured, “I’ll wake you up in a bit.” Kenny continued as he got his jeans from the dresser, pulled on a t-shirt and his parka so he could go start breakfast.

Magie was growing more and more interested in this realm that she had stumbled into. She wanted to know who had cursed Kenny and why, but she settled on looking to understand it first. The spells that she was looking through seemed fairly easy to begin, but there were warnings if the reader was curious in practicing, which she was. The bedroom door opened and Magie quickly locked her phone, offering home a sweet and tired smile. She was afraid that if he knew what she was doing, he’d get upset at her for not dropping it. “You’re so sweet,” she hummed, the scent of pancakes hitting her once the door was opened.
She felt herself melt at the kisses, practically turning to putty in his hands as he gave her affection. Magie cupped his cheek as he kissed her face, a laugh leaving her as she was being attacked. When he pulled away, she gently combed her fingers through his hair to make it look a little nicer. She smiled at his accent before she guided herself into a stand, pressing a kiss to his chin. “Thank you, darling, for breakfast. Don’t take to long coming to eat, I want to enjoy it with you,” Magie told him with a soft look in her eye. She motioned for Lavender to follow her as she navigated her way to the kitchen, smiling at the stack of pancakes that were there.

Magie felt him slipping out of her arms, but she was far too tired to hold onto him so he could leave her. She smiled at the kisses that she received, pleased that he had followed through on her request. “Okay,” she murmured, turning to her other side once he left the room. Magie attempted to go back to sleep, Lavender joining her on the bed, but she wasn’t Kenny shaped. It wasn’t the same and she found herself far too cold and uncomfortable to slip back into her slumber. She sat up with a groan and stretched, giving Lavender a few pets before she went looking for her phone.
When she found it, she got settled back into Kenny’s bed, scrolling through the news before opening a tab to search. She vaguely remembered the details of Kenny’s curse, his death still replaying in the depths of her mind as she was curious to know if there was anything like this situation. The deeper she went, the more the answers she was given became similar. Necromancy was magic that brought the dead back was what it was telling her, and so she continued down that path, finding the arcane details fascinating, until Kenny came to ‘wake’ her.

When Magie drifted off to sleep, she had no dreams that were plagued by Kenny’s accident earlier that day. Spending time with him like this really calmed her spirit and soul, left her feeling warm and safe in a way that she had never felt before. That could be applied to many things about Kenny, though. He was someone she’d never experienced before, someone who gave her emotions she didn’t know she was capable of feeling. It was exciting and yet heartbreaking due to the new information she had been given about his curse.
Magie was a light sleeper, but her exhaustion kept her in a deep sleep throughout the rest of the night, waking up occasionally to check on Kenny. When the sun had risen, Magie felt shifting next to her which pulled her from her rest groggily. “Kenny,” she asked softly, her eyes barely opened enough to see what was happening. “You leavin’? Can I have a good mornin’ kiss?” Magie asked with a light pout to her lips. She typically wasn’t like this, far too anxious to normally ask for a kiss, but perhaps the sleepiness and love in her heart was making her more confident around this boy.
“It’s fine.” Kenny wasn’t sure he wanted to continue that subject, watching her for a moment. The topic made his stomach twist, not in any pleasant way. In a way that made him feel nauseous and uneasy, that faint anxiety that frustrated him and left him cold and unsure because he couldn’t just make it better, he couldn’t fix things just like that. He couldn’t brush it off and ease her worry, he couldn’t just fix things with a snap of his fingers.
Kenny relaxed under her, happy with the soft warmth and gentle affections that came from having her so close. “It’s up to you if you wanna meet him.” Kenny murmured softly, moved a hand to run through her hair slowly, gently. “Yeah, I do. Gotta woo you properly,” He stated, grinned widely. “It’s not proper if you don’t let me make you some bomb ass pancakes tomorrow.”

Magie enjoyed how comfortable he was, how much warmth and safety he provided her with. She flushed when he turned the compliment around on her, but she tried not to protest and simply stayed silent. She gave gratitude in the form of her lips meeting his neck softly, letting her eyes stay closed as she relaxed against him. “I cannot wait to taste these fantastic pancakes,” she murmured, her words quiet and drifting, similar to how she currently felt. Magie’s panic had drained a lot from her and she was exhausted, but she didn’t want to leave Kenny behind.
“Tell that to the law, I don’t make the rules. Not my fault they consider a handshake legally binding,” she replied, feeling his chin move in a way that she could only assume he was pouting. He was genuinely so cute, it made Magie’s heart want to burst. Being called an angel for the second time made her heart pick up. She surely didn’t see herself as one, she wasn’t able to save him or protect him when he had gotten hurt earlier, but she tried not to think about that part so much. Instead, she felt herself growing heavier with each passing second, each soft beat of her heart. She managed to whisper two words before she was completely gone, “G’night, love.”

Relief flooded her senses when Kenny told her of how he spoke about her. A blush touched her cheeks as she listened, and she felt herself intrigued with what Leo had said in response. She wouldn’t press any further, though, feeling as if she had already overstepped. If she wanted that information, Magie figured that she’d have to just talk to Leo herself, and as scary as that was, she was incredibly excited. “You’re adorable. I told some of my friends about you and the moment I open my mouth, they ask, ‘Is this about Kenny?’” Magie admitted with a soft laugh as she mocked her friends.
She hummed in thought, thinking of all of the delicious pancakes that she could be blessed with in the morning. “Surprise me. I’m absolutely certain that I’ll be happy with whatever you make,” she settled with a decisive nod. Magie couldn’t help the grin on her lips as Kenny protested. “Nope, you know what they say. A person’s handshake is- uh- very legally binding. You just agreed to letting me pay for dinner and if you don’t allow me to, I will send a subpoena your way,” Magie joked, returning her hand to his chest as she rested her face in the crook of his neck. “Thank you for being so great,” she murmured.
