Doing What You Would Do (A Halstead Brothers + Halstead Sister Imagine)
A/N: I hope you like this one and please remember to reblog and comment! Also, I will be doing headcanons again in April, so if you sent me a request that I haven’t gotten to yet, it’s because I’m waiting to a do a headcanon weekend then.
Anyways, enjoy!
“Pizza will be here any minute,” you said to Makayla who was busy trying to find a movie to watch on Netflix. Whenever you had to babysit Makayla on Friday nights, it was a tradition to get pizza and watch a movie. It was as much a treat for you as it was for her because you got to relax after a long week of college classes and she got to pick the movie.
“Okay!”
“You find a movie yet?”
“Yeah! I picked Princess and the Frog!” the seven-year-old said excitedly from her place on the couch.
“Perfect!” you exclaimed, matching her excitement. There was a knock on the apartment door. You grabbed some money from the drawer where Kim always left emergency money and money for takeout. You looked through the peephole and saw the pizza box, but no pizza man behind the box. Weird. “Hey, Mak, how about you run to your room and grab your platypus now, okay?”
“Yeah, good idea! Then we don’t have to stop the movie!” She jumped off the couch and scampered off to her room.
Only then did you open the door.

she’s gone?, halstead sister
Tumblr media Tumblr media
jay & will halstead x sister! oc, hailey upton x halstead sister! oc /p
warnings: kidnapping, canonic mentions of violence, guns, injury, anxiety/crying, hospitals
in which Amelia is kidnapped by the suspect in Intelligence’s current case.
this isn’t my favorite or my best work, but i tried my best on it. maybe, i’ll redo it in the future! also not proofread <3
“Excuse me?” Kit started, standing next to Spencer at the front desk at the 21st district. Amelia hadn’t shown up to hang out with them and she was now not answering calls or texts, something she didn’t normally do, “Can we talk to Jay Halstead?”
Trudy furrowed her brows, “I’ll get him down here. Go sit, please.” The two teenagers sat on a small bench in the lobby, watching as the desk sergeant held a phone to her ear.
Spencer bit his nails, his leg bouncing up and down uncontrollably. Kit was twirling a piece of hair around her fingers. It wasn’t long before Jay came down the stairs, Trudy pointing in the teen’s direction. He turned to them, “Hey, guys? What’s up?” The man asked.
He knew that his sister was supposed to be with them but she was nowhere to be seen. The two of them had stood up again.
“Is Lia answering you? She didn’t show up to meet with us and we haven’t heard from her.” Kit told him.
Jay assumed she was just getting ready. He shook his head, his hands on his hips. His mind was now racing in every which way. Amelia never ran off without telling anyone. She would’ve told Adam if he was her last choice, but she always kept her loved ones in the loop.
“Come with me, guys,” Jay said, leading them up to Intelligence. Jay was met by confused looks from his coworkers, “Call Mia real quick, please.” He said to Hailey and she nodded.
He let Kit and Spencer sit in the break room as he knocked on Voight’s office door, “Hey, two friends of my sister just showed up, saying she didn’t come to meet up with them. I don’t want to, y’know, jump to conclusions, but can you come talk to them?” Voight nodded, getting out of his chair as Jay pointed toward the break room. Kevin went in with him.
Jay looked back to Hailey who just shook her head. No answer. The man pulled out his own phone, calling his sister with no answer.
“What’s going on?” Adam asked quietly, stepping up to Jay.
He shook his head, “Amelia’s not answering her phone.” Jay licked his lips, a hand pressed to the left of his face. His eyes happened to wander to the whiteboard off to the side, looking at the four victims they already had, and one kid they were looking for.
They were all girls, ages six to seventeen. They were all missing for a week before their bodies turned up. All had blonde hair, which was the only thing similar between Amelia and the girls. Jay was hoping that his sister was not one of the girls who would turn up dead.
“You don’t think…,” Adam didn’t finish his sentence. He couldn’t.
Jay took a deep breath. Voight stepped out of the break room with Kevin, closing the door behind them. He looked at his team, “We’re treating this as another missing person’s case. This is family we’re talking about now.”
“I have to call Will, and their parents,” Jay muttered, walking away from his team and to the locker room. He sat on the bench for a few moments before he called his brother, trying to accept that his sister was involved in a case.
Her eyes fluttered open, the right side of her head throbbing. She pushed herself up, scanning the room she was in. Amelia couldn’t remember much of anything, other then getting hit with something on her way to see Katherine and Spencer. Something beside her moved and she quickly turned her head. Not something. Someone. A little girl sat next to her, bloody towel in her small hands.
“Your head was bleeding,” she said gently and Amelia just nodded, “It’s not now.”
Amelia inhaled, “Thank you. What’s your name?” She questioned. The young girl looked at the door and then back to Amelia.
“Sadie,” she told the older girl.
She nodded, “That’s really pretty. I’m Amelia,” she introduced, taking towel gently from the girl and setting it on a table, “Do you know where we are?”
Sadie shook her head, “There’s a bad guy. I’m the only one left.”
“How many others were there?”
The young girl glanced up in thought before holding up four fingers. Amelia nodded, giving a tight-lipped smile. There was a small bruise on Sadie’s cheek, another on the right side of her neck.
“Something bad happened to them, I think. He took them and they didn’t come back,” Sadie started to explain. Amelia’s hands were now shaking but she tried to keep her emotions under control for the little girl, “One had a phone but she hid it so he didn’t find it. I don’t know where it is now.”
The Halstead girl shook her head, “Okay, well, nothing’s going to happen to you, Sadie. We’ll get out of here.” Amelia reassured, the door creaked slowly and the girls turned in the direction of it. She felt Sadie’s hand on top of hers, her small body inching closer as the door opened.
“Lookie there, my girls are awake,” a man said, a smile wide on his face. Amelia cringed, trying to press her body further into the wall behind her. Anxiety rose in her chest, the feeling of a pressure on her body. His eyes landed on Sadie, “Tomorrow, you and I are gonna go for a little ride.” He was pale with sandy blonde hair and a beard.
Amelia shook her head, “She’s good here, I think.” The girl said gently. Sadie squeezed her arm, surely trying to give her a warning.
“That sounded like backtalk. Ruby here knows I don’t like that,” the man took a few steps closer to them, his eyes now trained on Amelia. Why did he refer to Sadie as Ruby? She kept eye contact until her head was forced to the left, a stinging sensation spreading through her cheek.
She swallowed, still processing the hit, “I’m sorry.” Amelia whispered.
He nodded, “That’s what I thought, Madeline. I’ll be back later, just thought I would check in.” He smiled, walking back out of the room. Madeline?
They watched the sun set out of a small window. The man came back once, with food and water. Amelia let Sadie have most of hers, her appetite was nonexistent.
While Amelia sat awake, Sadie’s head on her lap, her soft snores filling the room, Jay and Will were going over everything. Their thoughts were running wild, wondering if their sister was still alive.
The next morning, the two were brought breakfast, the Halstead girl having to act like she was sleeping so he wouldn’t talk to her. Amelia picked at pieces, sharing sad smiles with the little girl. They started asking each other questions. Amelia had figured out that Sadie was seven and loved the color purple. Her favorite animal was a elephant and she had two older brothers and an older sister.
“Sadie, do you have an idea where that phone was hidden?”
The girl bit on the inside of her cheek, “I remember something about a bookshelf.” Sadie said and Amelia nodded, her eyes landing on four empty bookshelves around the room.
The Halstead girl pushed herself up, walking around to each, pulling them away from the wall a little bit. On the last shelf, she found it. The device had ten percent battery left but she was sure she could get a call.
Luckily, it wasn’t password protected. Amelia’s heart raced as she unlocked it, standing close to Sadie. Her hands were shaking again as she dialed Jay’s number. He didn’t answer, so she called again.
“Halstead,” his voice almost made her cry.
She took a deep breath, “Jay,” Amelia breathed out.
“Mia? Mia, where are you?” He questioned, standing up, getting their attention to ping the phone.
She licked her lips, staring at the door, “I don’t know, it’s a tiny room. Jay, I’m not the only one here. There’s a little girl-,” she was cut off.
“Sadie Jackson?” He asked.
“Yeah, that’s right,” she confirmed.
She heard Adam’s voice in the background, “Are you okay?” Jay questioned.
A tear rolled down Amelia’s cheek, “Yeah, I’m okay, Jay. Just find us, please.”
“I promise. We just got a location, Babe, just hang tight.”
“Jay, I have to go. I don’t know when he’s coming back, I love you.” Amelia started getting choked up.
Jay let out a breath, “I love you too, Mia. We’re on our way.”
The phone call ended and Amelia wedged the device between another bookshelf. She took her spot next to Sadie, wiping her own tears as the young girl watched her.
“Who was that?” Sadie asked.
Amelia smiled, “My brother, he works for the police.”
“So, he’s gonna come get us?”
She nodded, “Yep, he is, Honey. I want to talk to you though,” she started and Sadie nodded, “If that man comes back and something happens, I want you to run outside as fast as you can and find help.”
“What about you?” The young girl questioned.
“I will be right behind you, I promise.”
Sadie held out her pinky and Amelia hesitated before looping her pinky with Sadie’s.
The girls sat in silence for a bit, Sadie’s head on her shoulder before they heard the soft scream of sirens. Footsteps were loud outside the door. The metal door was pushed open quickly, the man now standing there.
“There’s police outside. Hmm, how did they get here? How do they know? Was it one of you? Madeline?” He questioned, staring directly at Amelia. She shrugged off the name, still confused as to why he was calling them Ruby and Madeline.
They both shook their heads, “We have no way of alerting them,” Amelia lied, standing up as he approached them. Sadie stood too, at the girl’s side.
The man stared at the older girl before flattening his hand, slapping her across the face. Then, his hands came up to wrap around her neck. His attention was completely off of Sadie who managed to slip out of the door and run for it.
“Stop, please,” she rasped, out of breath. Tears fell onto her cheeks.
He only smiled. A sinister, disgusting smile that made her stomach turn.
With the heel of her hand, she hit him in the nose, making the hold on her neck gone. She started to run for the door. The only problem was that he retaliated quickly, grabbing her by the waist and throwing her to the ground. She yelled in pain, another cut opened on her head and many scrapes appeared on her arms. His foot collided with her stomach, over and over and over again.
“Chicago PD!” She heard Voight yell. She laid on the ground, crying and shaking, lifting her head enough to see Voight pointing his gun at the man’s head, “Give me another reason.”
She coughed as a hand softly landed on her shoulder, making her flinch, “Hey, Mia, it’s okay,” Hailey’s gentle voice comforted. Amelia found herself sitting up, wincing in pain and falling into Hailey’s embrace.
“Here, let me help you up,” Hailey said as Voight dragged the attacker out of the room, his hands cuffed behind his back.
Hailey helped keep Amelia steady as they stepped out of the small building, which Amelia now knew was a garage.
“‘Melia!” A young voice yelled, and she found Sadie running over to her. Ignoring her own pain, she let the girl hug her so tightly.
“You did so good,” Amelia whispered, pulling away from the hug and cupping her cheeks, “I’m so proud of you, Sadie.”
She felt lightheaded, dizzy too. Amelia wanted to fall to the ground and cry. Many homes were around them. They were in a suburb. How did he get away with it this long?
Tears fell onto her cheeks as her eyes landed on Jay. He walked up quickly, wrapping her up in his arms as she sobbed into his chest. Hailey stepped away with Sadie, leaving the siblings. He smoothed back her hair, watching out for the cuts on her head.
“You’re okay, you’re okay,” he cooed, rubbing her back.
Another person appeared at their side, “Mia,” said an out of breath Will Halstead. She went from Jay to her eldest brother, letting him hold her. Will pressed a kiss to her head, “How are you feeling?” He knew it was a stupid question. He also knew she needed to get to Med. One of the cuts on her head needed stitches.
She shook her head, indicating that she wasn’t good. They had already known that. “Light- I feel lightheaded.” She told him, looking up at her brothers. Will nodded, cupping her cheeks and wiping her tears, only to be replaced by more.
“Okay, there’s an ambulance here. Let’s get you to med,” Will said, an arm around her shoulder as her brothers led her to the ambulance. Sadie sat next to Adam, clinging to his arm much like she had to Amelia before they were rescued.
Sylvie Brett stood in front of them, looking at Sadie with her partner, Violet Mikami. Brett, who had known Amelia for ages, glanced at the teen. She told Violet to finish up with Sadie as she stepped toward the Halstead’s.
“How is she?” Amelia asked Brett, referring to Sadie.
Sylvie gave her a tight-lipped smile, “She’ll be okay. A few bruises and scrapes, but that’s it,” Amelia nodded. Brett looked at Will and Jay, “We’re taking both of them to Med, you can follow us.”
Amelia didn’t think an ambulance ride to the hospital was necessary, but she didn’t question her brothers or Brett. She just wanted to sit down before her legs eventually gave out, “Can I ride with you guys?” Will questioned, Brett nodded.
Jay and Hailey were going to follow the ambulance. Adam helped Sadie into the back of the ambo before doing the same with Amelia, squeezing her shoulder gently as a form of comfort. Will followed them in, the doors shutting behind them. A few minutes later, they were on the road.
Amelia sat next to her brother, Brett next to Sadie. Will held gauze to her bleeding head, “I’m tired,” she whispered, but Will heard her.
“I know, kiddo, but try and stay awake for a little longer, you might have a concussion,” Will told her, rubbing his thumb back and forth against the middle of her back.
Sadie reached over to her, grabbing Amelia’s hand and squeezing it, “It’s okay.” It made Amelia smile. They were both there, but somehow, Sadie was able to keep her composure.
“Thank you, honey,” Amelia thanked, gently squeezing Sadie’s hand back.
Once they arrived at Med, Violet stayed with Sadie. Brett and Will were with Amelia, but Brett left to be with her partner after a few minutes. She was taken into a room by Connor Rhodes and her brother, “Hi, Mia,” Connor greeted, doing a check up that Brett probably should’ve done in the ambo, but Will had no objections to her not doing it.
The cut on her head was still bleeding a little and her head was throbbing. “I’m going to do some stitches, but are you feeling dizzy? Any nausea?” He asked.
“A little nausea,” she replied, “every few minutes.” Connor nodded, glancing at Will before he walked out, going to grab supplies for her stitches.
Jay and Hailey just arrived and had been pointed toward her room by Maggie. They both stepped inside. Amelia looked up at her brother, “He was the guy from your case, right?” She asked. She already knew the answer by the looks on their faces.
“He’s at the district, Adam is questioning him,” Jay told her, leaving out the part that he was sitting in the cage, Ruzek and Voight both hassling him.
Amelia licked her lips, “He kept calling us Ruby and Madeline. I just ignored it, but do…,” she paused, wincing softly as she took a deep breath, “do you know why?” Jay looked at Hailey, wondering whether or not Amelia should be told why. Whether she could handle it, “Just tell me, Jay, please.”
He inhaled, “Um, those were his daughter’s names. They passed away a few years back,” he told her carefully, “the oldest, Madeline, was your age. We think that’s why he was taking kids.”
She didn’t say anything as Connor walked in, telling them the three adults could stay in the room or wait outside. Hailey went to check on Sadie, but Will and Jay stayed with their sister. She hated needles and they knew that. Even Connor knew, allowing Jay to sit next to her.
Once he was done, he took Will and Jay outside the room, telling Amelia to lay down and get comfortable. “She had a mild concussion and bruising on her abdomen. I can keep her here on observation, just a small recommendation, but you can take her home if you want to.”
Jay looked at Will, the redhead nodding at Connor’s words. If this was his patient, he would also keep them on observation and let them leave the next day. It was left up to Jay as Amelia’s guardian.
“We’ll keep her here, just to be safe.” Jay said and Connor nodded, walking away from them. The men stepped back into their sister’s treatment room. She laid on the bed with her legs pulled up, her hands shaking. She didn’t even look up when they came back in. Jay pulled up a chair at the side of her bed, facing her.
Slowly and softly, he stroked her hair, noticing the tears on her cheeks again, “Babe,” he started as more tears fell and she brought her shaking hand up to cover her eyes.
“It hurts, Jay,” she cried, referring to her body, “I wanna go home.” Amelia let her hand fall back down. Every body movement she made hurt in some way, moving her head too quickly, sitting up. Everything hurt.
She sat, Jay moving to the edge of the hospital bed. Amelia fell into his arms, sobs racking her body as her tears soaked his t-shirt and jacket. He rocked from side to side slightly.
“Shh, it’s okay,” he tried, Will taking the chair Jay had been sitting in, “Babe, you’re going to make yourself sick. Take some breaths.”
She tried, listening to Jay’s heartbeat as she did.
Thump. Thump. Thump.
Will took her hand in his, gliding his thumb along her knuckles. Her breaths evened out, “That’s it, Mia. There you go,” The words were pressed into her forehead by Jay’s lips.
A few seconds passed before Amelia pulled away from Jay’s embrace, his hands cupping her cheeks.
“You’re okay, Mia.”

accident, halstead sister
Tumblr media Tumblr media
will halstead x sister! oc, connor rhodes x halstead teen sister! oc /p
warnings: doctor stuff, overprotective will halstead, sibling banter
in which hurts herself on accident and goes to med while trying to avoid her eldest brother
She didn’t mean to fall. Amelia was probably one of the clumsiest people in the city of Chicago, something her friends laughed about was also something her brothers worried about. Having one brother as a doctor and the other as a detective, she was protected to say the least.
Amelia had been on her way to a small cafe near Molly’s, to meet her friends, Katherine and Spencer. Her only choice was to walk because she didn’t have a car. She drove Jay’s truck when needed.
She tripped over her feet, right before she made it to the cafe. A few people crowded around her, asking if she was okay. Amelia just nodded, wincing as she pushed herself up. Her knee was skinned up, as was her arm, and her wrist hurt like none other.
The girl stepped inside, finding her friends immediately. They looked at the blood on her knee and arm, confused as to what happened.
“Listen, I fell and I think I might’ve broken my wrist. Can one of you please take me to med?” She questioned and they both stood up, having rode together as they lived close. Spencer grabbed his keys and led her to his car. He passed her napkins to wipe up the blood as he drove.
“Lia, I love you, but if you get blood on my car, you’re walking the rest of the way,” he said, glancing at her every so often.
She nodded, “Yep, I really feel the love, Spence.” When he parked outside of the Emergency Room, she told them that they could leave. She would call them when she was out.
Amelia stepped inside, looking everywhere for her brother so he wouldn’t worry about her. When she didn’t see him, she went up to Connor Rhodes, waving at Maggie with a smile.
“Can you help me? I kind of fell.” She asked and he nodded, pointing her toward a treatment room. She glanced at Maggie, mouthing don’t tell Will, the woman gave her a thumbs up.
She sat on the hospital bed, “Mia, what the hell did you do?” Connor asked, taking the blood-soaked napkin from her hands and throwing it away.
“I told you I fell while walking to meet my friends, and I think I broke my wrist,” she pressed her lips together, staring at Connor.
“Mia, I have to tell your brothers about this.”
Amelia shook her head, “Don’t tell Jay or Will, then they’ll just worry, worry, worry!”
“You’re a minor, I have to,” Connor sighed, wiping her scrapes with a wipe, noticing as she squeezed her eyes shut, “I should get an X-ray of your wrist, to make sure it’s not broken.”
The door to the treatment room opened, a redhead stood at the entrance. Amelia looked at the ground. “Does someone wanna tell me why my little sister is in the ED?” Will questioned.
Connor held his hands up in surrender, “All up to you, Mia. I’ll go order an X-ray.” Connor squeezed her shoulder.
“I hate you,” she hissed quietly as he left, “You weren’t supposed to find out.”
“Did you forget that I worked here, kid?” Will questioned, his arms crossed.
She shook her head, “Why do you think I asked Connor to treat me?” He raised his eyebrows, “Listen, it’s a couple scratches and a hurt wrist. It’s nothing. So, don’t call Jay.”
“He would beat my ass and you know it,” Will looked at his sister to see a faint smile as she nodded in agreement.
Amelia took a deep breath, “Are you mad at me?” She asked. He shook his head, taking a step closer to her.
“Next time, just tell me about this sort of thing,” he told her, wrapping his arms around her shoulders, being careful of her wrist. He felt her nod against his chest. Will pressed a kiss to her hair, “I love you, kiddo.”
“I love you too,” she smiled, the two of them pulling away.
“Okay, I have to go call our brother.” They both chuckled, Will leaving Amelia alone as he pulled out his phone to call Jay.

Her father's daughter
Warnings: Kidnapping, crying, canon-typical injuries, blood
Summary: When all is well, someone just has to barge in and ruin Will and Faith's lives.
A/N: Soo, I am back more than a month later. I didn't mean to disappear for so long... It will happen again i am sorry. This Ramadan has come with more work and I have exams in two weeks that i refuse to fail. I will most likely return at the end of april/beginning of May.
i've been thinking about writing this for a while because of how much I love Faith but I didn't want to hurt her but then I thought, no one can turn down some good old angst. Sorry again for being mia for nearly another month but randomly wrote this all in one sitting after doing some psychology and having an existential crisis soooo. This is going to be a little longer than usual, happy reading!!
Tumblr media
Will was at work when it happened.
He was getting ready to assist Connor in a surgery when he got a call as they were scrubbing in.
The part-time nanny he hired was now basically considered family over the two years she'd been looking after Faith whenever she wasn't in school and Will was at work. So to have her calling him at work was odd but when he answered her call and was immediately met with tears and gasping and hyperventilating, Will felt his heart stop.
Will wasted no time. simply telling her he was on his way before hanging up.
Connor, without hesitation, encouraged Will to leave, saying he'd find Goodwin and tell her himself.
As soon as Will was in his car, the first person he called was a no brainer.
Whenever Will called, Jay would always come running, day or night for his older brother and niece, consequences be damned.
Will found himself struggling when Jay answered, grappling for words he couldn't muster.
"What's wrong Will?"
"Faith's gone Jay... Someone's taken her."
*****
The brothers met up at Faith's school, Will arriving before Jay.
The second Will got there, Allison, the nanny, found him instantly. She ran up to him in tears, hysterically crying as if it was her own child that was taken.
"Will I'm so sorry." She gasped, on the edge of a panic attack, eyes impossibly red as she hyperventilated, tears showing no sign of stopping any time soon.
"They- Reception said a woman picked her up in Maggie's name three hours ago-" She cut herself off with a sob. Poor women was a mess, seeing her so distraught made Will want to cry along with her.
"Allison, please listen." Will said sternly, holding her shoulder so she would pay attention to him. "None of this is your fault, okay? If it wasn't for you, it would've been another two hours before someone found out."
She exhaled shakily, nodding fervently when Will pressed her to stop apologising and accept she was at no fault, there was no reason for her to take any blame.
Before either could say anything more, the sound of sirens scared them, making both of them jump at the sudden loud sound.
At the sight of familiar cars, Will wasn't too sure if he felt relief or impending doom.
"Intelligence Will need to take a statement but after that you can go home." Will told Allison, squeezing her bicep with a timid smile for reassurance.
"As soon as they find Faith, you'll be the first to know, I promise."
*****
Jay was struggling to concentrate on the CCTV footage him and Adam were meant to be watching.
He could say with 100 percent confidence the he never thought he'd find himself in such a situation.
intelligence have been involved with numerous kidnappings. So many in fact that it was usually what they would be expecting to be called in for every day.
But, this was his niece's kidnapping. This wasn't the norm for him let alone the rest of them. A five year olds kidnapping was something they'd never want to deal with, especially someone who was family.
"Here it is." Adam said, clicking the mouse a few more times before settling on a frame, the scene being the reception of Faith's school.
Shaking any deprecating thoughts away, Jay pushed his chair forward, looking closely and minimising his blinks as to not miss a single second of valuable footage. Footage that would show the final moments of Faith being alive and safe.
The halls were empty for the most of it, bar the occasional janitor or teacher walking by. Two minutes passed when a woman in a black trench coat walked up to the desk. Her brown hair obscuring her face from the camera's view along with the thick scarf wrapped around her neck.
She spoke to the receptionist, signing a sheet of paper before a lady walked away, soon returning with a small familiar bundle.
Faith was in her little purple puffer jacket, bobble hat covering her ears and mitten on her little hands. She wore little winter boots, her my little pony backpack sat nicely on her shoulders and Will's old scarf held in her hands. Unconsciously, Jay thought about how she always complained about the itchiness of the scarf that Will would always wrap around her masterfully, his method luring out the most wonderful sound to mankind; Faith's laughter.
Faith looked perfect, just like her fathers carbon copy and even from the shitty camera footage, Jay could see the pep in her step and the twinkle that never extinguished from her eyes.
Jay's thoughts trailed back to earlier this morning when he was still fast asleep in bed but his brother had messaged him, sending him a picture of Faith in all her adorableness. Nothing had changed from that picture and it warmed his heart slightly.
Usually, whoever picked her up was met with the biggest hello, the widest smile and incessant talking and she retold the adventures of her day but this time, Faith's steps faltered at the sight of the stranger.
Jay struggled to watch the rest.
*****
All Will could hear was his baby girls cries echoing in his ears.
He'd heard her cry plentiful, he raised her since birth for goodness sakes but this cry was different. It was like he could hear just how scared she was and it felt like a literal stab in the heart.
Will forced Allison home twenty minutes ago after Hailey took her statement and was told everything. She was still very torn and upset, she refused to leave Will for several reasons but before she started blaming herself again, Will forced her to leave, promising once again to call her later.
Jay had shown Will the footage of the woman who never showed her face, maybe there was some chance Will could recognise the back of her. Somehow, she knew the exact school Faith went to as well as knowing the list of very few people that were allowed to pick her up. The list consisted of Will obviously, Jay, Allison and Maggie.
Somehow, whoever this person was, they knew who was on the emergency contact list, information that only the school and said people were privy to.
That small bit of information made Will want to be sick.
They had tried other means to try identify the woman but they were coming up with nothing. Another hour had passed, now being give hours since Faith had been taken and Will was slowly losing the plot.
"I've contacted a bunch on my CI's." Jay said, face set in stone as he finished presenting. "Still waiting to hear back."
"I have several CI's in that area." Antonio added, Kevin nodding to also confirm. "Waiting for a call any time now."
Voight hummed, giving no indication of what he was thinking or feeling. But not too long ago, he had taken Will aside and promised they would bring Faith back to him, no matter the cost.
No matter the cost. Ethically, Will wasn't too sure what to feel but emotionally, he felt relieved.
Will must've zoned out for a bit because the next thing he knew, only him, Jay and Antonio remained in the bullpen. Everyone else seemingly disappeared.
Wow, he really needed to fix up.
"Hey, how are you-"
Just as Jay opened his mouth, he was cut off by a phone ringing.
*****
Jay wasn't allowed to accompany Antonio to his CI, instead taking Kevin with him. The Latino was never once persuaded by Jay, even when he promised to stay in the car.
The sun was now starting to set and there was a clear shift in the atmosphere as the sky grew darker. To ease broth his own and his brothers fears, Jay sat with Will, sitting together in a silence neither could stand.
This was an uncommon occurrence since Will had returned from New York, the two brothers being alone together. Since coming back, it had always been the three of them. So to be in this moment, both Halstead's would rather die than to have to repeat this again.
"You want a coffee?" Jay asked, eyeing up the half empty coffee pot. At the rate this investigation was going, they'd be needing more than just coffee to help them stay up.
"Sure." Will hadn't meant for his answers to be monosyllabic, Jay had done nothing but right now, he had not much left in him to continue being so forth coming.
The silence enveloping their space, Will usually relished in any moments of silence he could get but this was just uncomfortable. Never did he ever want his little girl to be causing such a ruckus.
"Maggie called me back." Will said, watching Jays' back, following his actions as he made both their coffee's. "She doesn't recognise the woman nor has she told anyone outside the ED's staff about Faith - that's all people I know and none of them know that woman."
Jay hummed as he stirred the tiniest bit of sugar when his tasted a little too bitter for his liking. "That's good but it does mean we have even less of an idea as to who this is."
Will didn't reply, only mumbling a small thanks as he took the mug from Jay's outstretched hand and sipping the lukewarm drink.
"Have you butted heads with anyone at work recently?" Jay asked, knowing his brothers stubbornness very well.
"No." Will rolled his eyes. "I've been under Goodwin's strong scrutiny after the last stunt. Go ask anyone, I've been good."
And for a second, nothing felt as heavy but such a feeling didn't last.
"Antonio and Kevin are back." Trudy suddenly appeared in the doorway of the breakroom causing both of them to flinch. "Go see them downstairs."
*****
"My CI works in a restaurant. When I reached out, his story matched up with ours." Antonio started, standing tall besides the computer screen where Kevin was trying to connect it to the USB they were given.
"At the same time Will called us, a different woman came and ordered a takeaway with a kid he said looks a lot like Faith."
Will felt his heart rate picking up the more Antonio spoke. Hearing all of this felt like a fever dream, he didn't want to get his hopes up just in case they reached another dead end.
The camera footage started to play, Kevin skipping it when nothing was happening, only to abruptly replay it when someone walked in.
All they could see was the back of the woman, her black hair in a braid, scarf wrapped around her neck with a long jacket on. As Will's eyes studied the stranger, he followed her outstretched arm to-
Faith
Will's breath hitched at the sight of his little girl who hadn't seen since the early hours of the morning when he dropped her off to school. He held his breath, watching closely to see if a single hair was misplaced on her body or to try and see what she was feeling from either her scrunched up eyebrows or her quivering lips.
But he couldn't see anything.
The woman went to the counter, ordered her food and stood there for however long it took for the food to be made. Only when she was handed a carrier bag with several containers did she finally turn around and show her face.
Will's face paled in recognition instantly.
"What's wrong Will?" Jay noticed his change immediately, his question causing everyone in the room to turn and look at him. "Do you recognise her?"
Will swallowed harshly, blinking repeatedly to bring himself out of shock.
"Yeah, it's Faith's mum."
*****
With this newfound information, it didn't take Intelligence long to track her down.
Stephanie Brooks, 'Steph' was what she insisted everyone call her. For just over a year, she was Will's girlfriend and as of five years ago, she was Faiths absent mother.
Ever since that night five years ago, Will never thought he'd see his ex again but here he was, sitting in the back of his brothers truck as he waited for Intelligence to get his daughter back.
Once they had her name, they found the car she had under her name in Chicago and the place she was renting out as of three months ago. Three months of which she had been watching them under a microscope.
Will actually had to go be sick in the toilet when Kim turned around with all of Stephanie's activities since she arrived in Chicago, all of which suspiciously looked very familiar and aligned with everything he and Faith did recently.
That aside, all Will had to do now was wait.
Jay and Kevin stood in front, Kevin ready to kick the door down before Jay could go in first. All they were waiting for was for Voight's signal.
"Now!"
Within seconds, they were all entering the bungalow, guns out and pointed in any direction, covering all corners as they searched for Stephanie.
"Clear!"
"Clear!"
They all went separate directions, covering every room in search of any life and soon enough, they found their culprit.
She screamed.
"Stephanie Brooks, your under arrest..." Adam went on, reciting the words they all had memorised for years now, his gun lowered slightly as Antonio went forward to handcuff her.
"What, no! You're crazy!" She shouted, struggling against Antonio's grip. Despite the cheap bungalow she rented, she was dressed as if ready for a night out. Her hair was curled, makeup perfect, heels and a tight fitted dress on.
"Kidnapping?" She scoffed, continuing to struggle as she was forced onto her feet. "She's my child, my daughter!"
"You can't take her from me." She told them, getting more riled up when she saw Adam rolling his eyes at her. "I want my lawyer, you have no right to take my daughter from me."
On the other side of the bungalow, Jay heard nothing but thundering in his ears as he frantically looked up and down for his niece. Nearly every room had been covered and they hadn't found her yet-
Jay felt his heart break the second Faith was in his sight.
He found her stuffed in the bathtub shivering. He had to kick down the door, finding her with zip ties around her wrists and ankles, sat in the bathtub with on her knickers and vest on.
Faith started crying.
Without another thought, Jay dropped his gun and rushed forward, kneeling at the edge of the bathtub before picking her up and dropping her into his lap.
"Oh Faith." Jay sighed, wrapping his arms around her as she curled into him. "It's okay, your safe, Jay Jay's got you now."
As sobs racked her little body, Jay took out his knife and carefully cut the zip ties off. As soon as the were chucked to the side, she wrapped her arms as far as they could around his torso.
Standing up, Jay took strides out the bathroom and made his way outside. Hailey found him on the way, taking her scarf off with Kim not too far behind taking her jacket off.
Both garments swaddled Faith, protecting her bare limbs from the torturous snow but she continued to shiver.
Jay felt himself breathing easier with her in his arms but Will was firmly on his mind.
Only a metre away from the premises did Jay find Will who was already bounding towards them.
"Faith, look." Jay gently poked her, watching her carefully pick her head up and turn in the direction Jay was pointing.
The cry she let out, it would forever haunt him.
"Faith."
Jay handed her over to his older brother who's arms encased her small body. Will dipped his face in her hair, inhaling the comforting smell that he never wanted to forget.
"Oh baby. It's okay, it's okay." Will repeated as she sobbed, showing no signs of stopping any time soon. "Daddy's got you."
Will pressed several kisses wherever he could: in her hair, her forehead, her ear poking out from her curls, her cheek anywhere. His arms tightened in their embrace and if it wasn't for Jay who was supporting him, he would fallen into the snow as soon as he lost all feeling in his legs.
Will could barely hear his own thoughts over Faith's gut wrenching cries. Somehow, her tears weren't running dry. To see her in such a state but to have her back and safe with him, Will finally let his emotions get the better of him.
He sniffled, hiding his face in her wild curls he always struggled to tame, his tears dropping like rain but his cries were muffled. Screwing his eyes shut, he tried to even out his breathing, Jay's hand on his back comfortingly rubbing circles kept him somewhat sane.
"We're driving to Med." Jay told him, directing the father-daughter duo towards his truck.
Sitting in the back, the outside world no longer existed, his entire universe was sat in his lap. Will had lost track of time, she had been continuously crying but Faith was silent now as she was knocked out, crying herself to sleep, that's how tired she was. All he could hear was the occasional soft snore, but he could feel everything from her rising chest against his own, her curls that needed to be brushed, her skin that was slowly warming up from both his own body heat and the garments wrapped around her and the tears that were drying on his shirt.
Will felt like he could finally start to relax.
*****
Faith remained in Will's arms at Med, even when he woke her up, neither of them made any move of letting go.
As soon as they got to the hospital, Will was surrounded by all his colleagues, all riddled with stress that was slowly disappearing when they saw Faith.
Currently, Natalie was doing the standard tests, letting Will do all the convincing which wasn't a lot. As soon as he asked, Faith complied.
"I'll go grab some heating blankets." Natalie said, stepping back as she finished off. "I'll make sure to put a rush on these."
"Thanks Nat." Will said, letting Faith curl back into his embrace.
"It's no problem." She smiled, her eyes looking down at the little girl, the sight of father and daughter making her think of Owen. "We're all just glad she's safe and mostly unharmed."
Will tried not to think of the scrapes and clotting up scabs that littered her body. He hadn't seen any of them till they got to Med, his chest restricting to know she had been hurt and he wasn't there to relieve her of the pain.
"Thank Ethan for me." Will added when Natalie was about to leave. "Faith loves the my little pony band aids."
And with that, they were left alone for the first time surrounded by the muffled sounds of the bustling department and the occasional beeps of machinery and the faint drips of the iv.
Despite being a doctor for years, Will found it difficult to see the iv needle in Faith. To have two worlds collide, Will would never wish this upon any parent.
Small pokes to his collarbone caught his attention, Faith poking it ever so gently as she stared up at him imploringly with the widest eyes that still glistened, their colour identical to the woman who was going behind bars.
"Missed you." She whispered, voice breaking towards the end. It was the first time she had spoken since she found her and the two words made his eyes water.
"I missed you too. Missed you so much baby." Will replied, tucking her hair behind her ears so he could see her whole face. "I'm so sorry baby. Daddy loves you so much."
A smile appeared on her cherry lips, her dimples not too far behind. Seeing them made it feel like nothing was wrong with the world and only the two of them mattered.
"Home?" She asked, her voice filled with so much innocence and hope that Will has to give himself some time before replying.
"Not yet, I'm sorry bubbles." He apologised, rubbing circles into her back. "Jay Jay still needs to come back and Maggie needs to bring you some medicine. She might even ask you to sleepover."
For once, Will was glad she was so eager to stay at his workplace. She had such wonderment surrounding his job, the thought of sleeping over at his work was almost a dream come true.
To finally see her mood pick up, her eyes glistening now with newfound happiness at the prospect of a sleepover, unaware of the connotations it had, Will allowed himself to feel good.
For now, all that mattered was that his daughter was rightfully back with her father and surrounded by family that would do anything for her.

Figures
Fandom: Chicago Med
Characters: Halstead!Sister, Jay Halstead, Will Halstead
Genre: hurt/comfort, illness, fluff
Warnings: seizures, hospitals, injections
Word Count: 1897
Summary: The reader has a rough day of seizures, they are reluctant to go to Med until they have no choice. - but things are always easier with two big brothers by your side.
Requested By chrisevansdaughter: [...] could it be possible for you to do a halstead! Sibling reader where she has seizures, because of previous problems with low blood sugar and she had one whilst they are at home after not feeling the best, but she has to take a trip to lex because they don’t let up but she hates the hospital so it’s just fluff and comfort from a personal experience.
A/N: Thank you so much to @elius-learns-to-write for convincing me this wasn't total garbage. Sorry, it's shorter than usual, I am having a confidence crisis, but I'm working on it! I hope my research on this subject made this more readable.
-
The first thing that registers is the sharp throb of a headache that radiates throughout your forehead, intense biting stabs that make you wince even in the haze of your semi-consciousness.
The second thing you notice is the heaviness in your limbs, your eyes feel sensitive to the light and your absolute reluctance to move is the giveaway that you hadn’t fallen asleep on the couch in a natural or peaceful way.
Soon the memory of your intense nausea and shaking came back to you. There are vague memories of you trying to make it to the couch but not quite managing it - slumping into the arms of your brother, Jay, who luckily happened to be heading to the kitchen.
Your blood sugar must have been in the tank, causing you to pass out. You started seizing soon after, leaving Jay to holler out to Will who was in his bedroom to bring the emergency kit that he kept for when you stayed over.
The third thing that comes to you is that the ‘pillow’ beneath your head was not a pillow at all, but rather the muscular cushion of someone’s leg.
There's a hushed murmur of conversation that you can't quite concentrate on when a clearer voice reaches you, “Come back to us, kiddo, open those eyes.”
A gentle hand cards through your hair, brushing stray strands away from the clamminess on your forehead - it sparks a flurry of warm memories of being cared for, of being protected, from childhood right to the very present.
The owner of the voice was simultaneously irritating for asking that you wake up, but also soothing upon registering it to be the voice of your brother Will.
“Mngh, no. Hurts.” You mumble, turning yourself to face the back of the sofa, trying to somehow make Will’s leg comfier to rest your head on.
Your brother chuckles, squeezing your shoulder, “I know, I know it does, but I need to make sure the glucagon is doing its job.” Ah, yes, the magic of glucagon, the thing in charge of keeping your blood sugar in check, especially after a seizure.
“You finished napping yet?” Another voice comes from the direction of the kitchen, and you huff, playfully punching Will in the knee.
Will sulks as he pays for Jay’s teasing remark, “Hey! What was that for? I’m not the one accusing you of napping.”
You groan as you try and sit up, squeezing your eyes shut as the headache zings behind your eyes. “Mh, you’re closer, otherwise he’d get it.”
“He deserves it more anyway, he’s the one that stabbed you.” The voice is closer to you, on the couch, by your other side. Jay makes yet another joke as he tries to keep the mood light, wrapping an arm around you to steady you in your newly upright position.
“How are we doing, sweetheart?” He asks softly, being more sincere now that he was taking a look at you. You were groggy and in discomfort - seizures often took it out of you.
“Peachy.” You grunt, opening a weary eye to see Jay offering you a sandwich and a bottle of water. Something with carbs was always advised after a seizure, and Jay was usually the one to take care of that department, he always made the best sandwiches. ‘Thanks, Jay.” You murmur, sitting still as you slowly snack on your recovery food taking sips in between.
Jay's warm palm moving in small circles on your back is a safety blanket for you, feeling the tension between your shoulders and at the base of your neck begin to melt away.
You answer Will’s questions as you let him take the new readings with a finger-prick test, the method he swore by due to the delay in a glucose monitor reading.
Jay had taken that time to focus on looking out the window, moving his view away from the needle.
Will does what he needs to do with the lancet, pricking you for a sample of blood.
Like a well-practised dance, Will takes the test strip with your blood and inserts it into the meter, waiting for it to provide a reading, whilst you hold a small piece of gauze to the prick on your finger.
Will sighs, humming in concern.
“These levels aren’t what I’d like, Y/N, if it gets worse or you start to feel like you’re gonna seize again, we’re going to Med.”
Jay turns back to you at those words, a grimace on his face, knowing that your reaction to Will’s decision would be emphatically in opposition.
“Will, seriously? No way, I hate that place, I’ll be fine!” You try and stand up to prove your point, only to feel the world swim and your legs fail to cooperate.
“Woah, hey.” Jay is quick off the mark, hooking his arm around you to bring you back down to the couch.
You glance at Will who’s got his hands out to steady you too, you involuntarily scowl at his “Told you so.” expression.
“A little backup would be nice.” Will addresses Jay, scratching at his head as he wonders whether he should just take you to Med now, not missing the way you try to act like you’re not moments away from passing out again.
“Don’t look at me, you’re the doctor and the bad cop in this situation, I get to be the good cop when it comes to medical emergencies.” Jay seems rather smug and it makes you laugh half-heartedly despite your exhaustion and shakiness, both you and he shared a deep disdain for Will’s place of work.
You’re trying to get up again, not really sure where you want to go or what you want to do. A fog of confusion shimmers in your mind, and before you know it Will is grasping your shoulders, looking at Jay.
“Lay her down on the floor.” Will commands, and Jay wastes not a second in obeying. He shifts to support your head and gently encourages you to lie down on the floor, giving you one of those stern yet loving looks as you try and resist. He’s watching worriedly as your eyes wander erratically, knowing you’re trying to fight what’s coming.
“It’s alright, Y/N, just-” Jay’s about to encourage you to let it happen, to let them take care of you when your whole body goes limp. Jay holds you steady, turning you on your side as you begin to convulse again.
Will moves back to his kit, preparing a secondary dose of glucagon, there’s little Jay can do but stop you from hurting yourself as you ride it out.
Your brothers share a look as Will injects you in your upper arm, there’s an unspoken agreement that there is no choice but to take you to Med now, they needed to get this under control in a secure environment with additional solutions available - even if that meant you’d be in a sour mood later, they would take it.
-
The second you consciously smell the air after waking up you let out a disgruntled groan, you knew exactly where you were - and it wasn’t Will's apartment anymore.
You were indeed at Chicago Med, and more specifically in the diabetic clinic on the third floor - a space you were unfortunately all too familiar with.
“Hey kiddo, you with us?” A gentle voice pulls you to open your eyes properly, scanning the room briefly your gaze settles on Jay sitting on the chair beside your bed, smiling at the sight of you finally awake.
He had his detective badge around his neck.
Observant as he was trained to be, he clocks the question on your lips, and speaks before you can ask, “Visting hours were over a few hours ago, so was shift change - so I may or may not have implied it was a police matter of importance that I was here with you.”
You laugh groggily, but then it falters into a frown, softly chastising your brother. “Jay, I shouldn’t get special treatment.”
Jay chuckles too, you were always conscious of not using his job nor Will’s to get any kind of tenuous form of preferential care. Your self-awareness was something he admired about you.
“I know, I’m sorry, sweetheart…” Jay pauses, scratching at the back of his head. “But uh, Will got called in downstairs, and I couldn’t sit at home alone knowing you were up here alone too… You worried me today, Y/N.” There’s a somberness in Jay’s eyes, he didn’t do well with not being able to have control over a situation, and not being able to help fully was one of his biggest struggles.
Your eyes soften, carefully reaching out a hand to hold Jay’s. “Big brother, I’m alright, they’re really great at what they do here, I’m sure they’re gonna figure out how to keep me on a safer track with all this. I’m feeling better, I promise.”
Jay shakes his head with a smile, despite your disdain for the hospital you had always done better than him. “When did you get so wise?” He teases, squeezing your hand gently.
“I’ve always been wise, thank you very much.” You snipe jokingly, taking mock offence to the idea that you hadn’t always been of sound logic and optimism.
“Yes you have, you definitely get that from me though, not this guy.” Will’s voice catches your attention, he was now in scrubs and had you giggling a little more as he poked fun at Jay.
Your other brother studies you with his medical eyes and then his worried sibling ones, approaching the free side of your bed. He smoothes out the flyaway hairs atop your head, giving your shoulder a squeeze. “How are we doing, kiddo?”
A yawn escapes you, still holding Jay’s hand as you shrug, reaching for Will’s hand too, “Much better. I’m sorry I caused such a fuss. Do they know what’s going on?”
“Nothing to be sorry for, Y/N.” Will reassures, “They think you might have overdone it this week with the extra shifts you took on after school, your body couldn’t keep up.”
You sigh with an understanding nod, it didn’t surprise you that was the cause of your problems, “I thought I was doing a good job of keeping up, guess not.”
Will gives you a reassuring smile, “Hey, it’s alright, sometimes we can’t always get it right. You know you can always ask me or Jay to help you keep track or reassess, it’s not a bother.”
“Never a bother. It’s not even a question.” Jay chimes in, squeezing your hand gently.
Listening to their reassurance made you feel more relaxed for the first time in a few days, knowing that it was okay to take it easy and rely on your brothers a little more than you had been lately. “Thanks, guys. I guess you are pretty good brothers after all, even if you did stab me with needles and drag me here.”
The two of them laugh at your slight pout, Will looks at you with that smug face, “Sweetheart, sorry to say but we’d do it again and again if it meant getting you better.”
“And I carried you, actually, there was no dragging.” Jay corrects, feeling smug.
You huff, but you’re smiling too, slapping at both of their arms playfully, “Figures.”

-------------
Amelia ‘Millie’ Halstead was the true definition if cuteness. She was Jay and Will’s little sister, 1 ½ year old little sister. Slight curly brunette hair and the most gorgeous green eyes adorned her features, she was a copy of Jay. Their most prized possession given she was the last thing remotely close to their mother and as older brothers they had an unspoken vow to protect her no matter what.
So there came the time when they had to act on that vow, given that after their mother died, Pat struggled to be Millie’s father –‘nothing new’- in Jay’s words. Pat had always been a complicated man when it came to parenting even worse when it came to Millie as he claimed, -‘I don’t know anything about raising a girl’-. Because of his failing fatherhood the bothers stepped in, Jay taking his sister on his own. Will always giving him full support, knowing he couldn’t take her with him because he lived with Natalie and Owen.
She was getting at that age where she would start walking and talking. Unfortunately, she wasn’t doing either of those which worried Jay –‘Every kid is different, it’s normal, Jay’- Will had told him. To everyone around him, Jay looked like a first-time dad/ brother, freaking out at the most insignificant cough or sneeze. Part of him was afraid he wasn’t enough to do a good job at raising her often questioning if he should let Will take the strings, which was nonsense, but he didn’t know that.
Today would be one of many days when Jay had to bring Millie over to the district, the unit loved the little toddler. How could they not? She was a walking sunshine, a happy baby since the very beginning, with her babbling and her little giggles, and her cute dimples. She had a way to peoples hearts, she even had melted Trudy’s tough exterior, -shocker-, which landed on Trudy giving him full permission to bring her whenever he wanted.
“Bear. If you sleep your naps on time and let me work. I’ll buy you a huge box of toys, so keep the crying at a minimum” Jay said trying to make a deal with his little sister. Of course, she couldn’t understand neither answer him, so the only thing Jay heard in return was baby noises.
“Do we have a deal?- Yeah I think we do” he continued as he parked his truck. Glancing back to look at Millie which was looking outside with an ‘awe’ expression as if there was something awesome out there. Smiling at her he climbed out taking her bag with him, going to Millie’s side and opening the door. He was met with the most precious smile, dimples showing and eyes sparkling; this making the tough detective melt before reaching to grab her.
“God, you’re killing me bear” he sighed happily while kissing her forehead before starting to walk towards the front district door. When they made it to the district lobby, Millie started babbling and pointing towards Trudy. The older woman glancing up and smirking before she started making her way around the desk and reaching for the toddler.
“Well, hello little chuckles” Trudy said to Millie who was smiling from ear to ear -yeah Trudy’s her favorite- Jay thought leaning on the front desk.
“Morning Sarge. Detective Chuckles, remember me” Jay said sarcastically as he waved his hands to make his presence seen. The older woman didn’t care a bit,
“Chuckles” she responded unamused without looking at him, making the latter rolling his eyes as he smirked towards his little sister.
“How is Jay treating you, huh?” the sergeant asked Millie who babbled pocking the sergeants cheeks. Trudy dramatically gasped,
“He did that, how dare he” Jay shook his head at the interaction, before his eyes landed on a poor patrolman approaching them.
“Sergeant, I have a situation” “Can’t you see I’m busy Ramirez. Go. Away” she shood him, before passing Millie to Jay and giving them a wink, that was their cue to head up. Once they reached the top floor Millie was immediately ripped from his hands yet again. This time by none other than Kevin ‘the big teddy bear’ Atwater.
“How you doing cupcake” he said while bouncing Millie on his arms and taking her into the breakroom, probably to give her candy.
“Hey, don’t give candy Kev” Jay called after them, making the rest of the unit chuckle.
“I won’t” Kevin responded coming back out into the bullpen, with Millie and a pack of candies on her hands.
“Yeah, right not even you believe that” Jay muttered raising his eyebrows as he sat at his desk smiling at Hailey, before glancing at his paperwork, it would be a long day.
It was late everyone had left being done with their paperwork the only people left in the office was Hank, Jay and a sleeping Millie. A squeal pulled the young detective out of his paperwork, glancing towards the breakroom open door before glancing at his watch. Yep, her nap was over, and she was probably hungry.
Standing up he didn’t even take two steps towards the open door, when he froze in his steps eyes going wide and a slight smile on his lips. Millie was standing in front of the breakroom door, smiling towards her brother. Jay was trying to keep his cool slowly crouching down and opening his arms slowly to not scare her. But in the inside, he was screaming.
His breath got stuck in his throat as Millie took a step towards him arms wide opened matching Jay’s and a gleeful smile in both of their faces.
“There you go, bear, come to me” Jay said in a voice so soft it could barely be heard by the Sergeant. Who was putting his detective/ sergeant skills to use as he silently looked at the interaction between them from his desk.
“J-Jay jay” she babbled out, making Jay bit his lip to contain the shout of happiness he wanted to let out.
“Yes. Come to jay jay- that’s it, c’mon” Millie continued taking cautious yet wobbly steps until she grasp Jay’s hands. The latter picking her up immediately, smiling so big it almost hurt. While she hugged his neck repeating his name, proud tears came to his eyes as he rested his head on hers. An inexplicable feeling in his chest. Unknown to them as Hank watched the interaction he had a very rare smile on his face, knowing that his detective was doing a great job.
When Will arrived at Jay’s place for his daily brotherly visit, he was startled by his brothers exclaiming voice coming from his living room.
“Hey, Will c’mere. C’mon hurry up, man” Jay hurried Will towards him, the redhead confused did as he was told. When Will stepped into the living room a smile adorned his face and a chuckle left his lips at the sight.
“She’s walking dude” Jay said laughing as if he couldn’t believe it while trailing behind Millie, his arms out in case she fell he could catch her.
“I see. Hi bug” Will crouched down to receive the full speed hug he was about to take. Millie was working on the speed control at the moment, hence why Jay had been spotting her before Will came.
“Jay jay” Millie exclaimed.
“Would you look at that. Told you she would do it” Will chuckled glancing up at his brother who had his eyebrows furrowed and was squinting his eyes at his brother.
“What?” Will questioned furrowing his eyebrows as well, Jay moving towards him.
“I’m jay jay. That’s your other older and much ugly brother” Jay said picking Millie up from Will’s hand and taking her to the kitchen.
“Hey Jay bring her back. I’m her brother too you know” “Not anymore. I’m her favorite” Jay exclaimed from the kitchen with a taunting tone accompanied with Millie’s giggles which made Will shake his head laughing.

Take Pride In Yourself
One Chicago
Characters: Will/Jay/Sister Halstead
Prompt: Coming out to your brothers. Lots of family drama.
Warnings: Homophobia and mentions of anxiety. Lots of fluff.
Your stomach pitched and rolled as you sat behind the wheel of your car. You knew you were supposed to meet up with your brothers soon but the swimming in your head made moving seem like an impossible task. You looked toward the door of the bar and went over the events that had occurred earlier that week.
“Y/N you know you need to tell your brothers about us sometime soon. You know, before they find out from someone else.”
You nodded and smiled at your significant other. “I will. I’m just…waiting for the right time.”
They nodded and sighed. “Unfortunately, that time will probably have to be soon.” At your confused look, they continued. “I think your dad just walked in.”
Your head whipped up to look at the door of the grocery store that you were shopping in, and sure enough, there was your father. He didn’t see you at first, but when he did, he didn’t take his gaze off you.
Slowly, he made his way toward you and you felt your significant other grab your hand at your side. “Y/N…I didn’t know you were here.”
You cocked an eyebrow. “You wouldn’t, would you?”
He scowled. “I’m trying to be nice here, Y/N. You don’t have to act like a child.”
Sensing that you were about to start fighting, your date stepped in. “It’s nice to meet you, Mr. Halstead.”
His gaze shifted from your face to theirs and then drifted to the spot where your hands were still clasped. Instantly, they squeezed it, knowing they had been caught.
“You…wait, are you two together?” He asked, taking a small step back.
You nodded your head unconsciously and felt your stomach leap into your throat. “Yes. We are dating, and we have been…for a few months.”
He was quiet. “Do they know?”
“Not yet.” You responded, knowing he meant your brothers. “Please don’t tell them.”
“Why would I?” He asked, disgust making its way into his voice. “I wish I didn’t know.”
Despite your rough history with your father, you felt tears rush into your eyes. Lucky for you, you were good at keeping your voice level even while upset. “I’m sorry you feel that way, Dad. But your opinion doesn’t matter.”
“Mine may not, but what will your brothers say? How will they feel about having you as their sister once they know what you are?”
“Dad I’m gay, not a murderer.” You snorted.
He started to talk again when you felt your girlfriend’s hand tighten on yours. “I think we have everything we need, and we’re going to be late for dinner. Y/N why don’t you say goodbye, so we can go home?”
You nodded and sighed. “Bye, Dad.”
Then you turned and walked away without looking back.
You took a shaky breath as you willed yourself to unlock your seatbelt and slide out into the cold air of the Chicago winter. Walking slower than you normally would in the cold, you made your way to the door and steadied yourself before opening the door and feeling the warmth of not only the heat from inside but also the happiness of your friends. No, your family. For they were much more your family than your father was.
It took you a second to locate your brothers at a table near the back sitting unusually alone in the corner. You smiled when they noticed you and went to sit with them, signaling to Gabby for your usual drink.
“Finally, we thought you might not be showing up.” Jay smirked as you slid onto the seat next to him.
You shrugged and pulled your coat tighter to your chest, as for some reason you could not rid the cold from your body. Whether it was from the weather or your overactive mind, you didn’t know.
“Are you okay?” Will asked as he took a sip from his beer. “It’s warm enough without a coat in here, you know.”
“Bite me.” You ground out but sighed at their surprised looks. “I’m sorry. I’m just in a mood.”
“Well that’s why there’s alcohol.” Herrmann smiled as he set your beer in front of you, along with another round for the guys.
“Thanks, Herrmann.” You smiled and drank deeply from your glass.
You were able to finally relax and settle in with your brothers as you watched the hockey game and made fun of each other as usual. It wasn’t until intermission that things took a turn.
“Hey Halstead!”
All three of you turned toward the voice, only to see another police officer coming toward them with a shot in his hand. Knowing he was talking to Jay, you turned to Will and started a conversation with him.
“So how is Nat doing?” You grinned, knowing by the slight blush on his cheeks that things were good.
“Shut up, you know we’re doing fine. You’d know if anything was wrong…we can’t hide things from each other, unfortunately.” He chuckled, and your stomach flipped a little but settled almost instantly.
“Yep, that’s true.” You agreed and quickly filled your mouth with the amber liquid before you could spill your secret earlier than you were ready.
“Hey, I thought I recognized you.”
You looked up after a second and realized that the officer was talking to you. “Uh…I’m sorry, I don’t know your name.”
“Call me Tim.” He nodded to the bar. “I’ve seen you in here with these guys before. I’ve actually tried hitting on you but now I get why it never worked.”
“Excuse me?” You choked over a sip of your drink, causing Jay to hit you lightly on the back.
“Yeah, it all makes sense now. I saw you in the store the other day with that girl and it all made sense. No wonder you weren’t into me, you’re a dyke.” He laughed as if making a joke.
“Hey!” Jay shouted, getting Herrmann’s attention. “First of all, not cool dude. Second, my sister is not gay, you’re just an asshole which she clearly saw before any of us.”
“Hey, whatever man, I’m just saying what I saw.” He held his hands up and walked away.
“Well that was interesting.” Will shook his head. “Can you imagine, Y/N? You being gay? Now that would be something.”
“Yeah, even if you could keep a secret from us, I don’t think we’d have to worry about that one.” Jay grinned at his brother with a teasing tone as he nudged your shoulder.
You didn’t speak. You felt as though your heart was in your throat and that all the contents of your stomach would fall out if you spoke. You barely registered Herrmann throwing the officer out of the bar as you stood from your seat and threw some cash on the table next to your glass.
“Hey what’s wrong?” Will asked, leaning forward slightly to look at your face.
You shook your head and leaned away from him. “I’m just…tired. I’m going to head out. I’ll talk to you guys later.”
You could barely hold your shaking breath in as you hurried your steps to the door and stepped out into the cold air. This time however, you didn’t look at your brother’s faces or feel the biting wind as you made your way to your desired destination. It wasn’t until you had pulled away from the curb that you let your tears finally fall.
It was barely thirty minutes later when you heard the expected knocking on your front door and sighed. You know that it was too much to hope that the boys wouldn’t follow you, but at least they cared enough to check in on you.
You opened the door slowly and let them in, knowing they wouldn’t go away until they made sure you were alright. “Long time no see.”
Ignoring your attempt at a joke, Jay put his hands on your shoulders and stared at you. “What happened, Y/N/N?”
You felt your throat close again and swallowed hard. “Nothing, I told you I was just tired.”
“Tell that to the tears on your cheeks.” He replied, gripping you harder.
“I’m fine.” Your voice broke as you spoke, and you cursed audibly at the occurrence.
Turning from the gazes burning into your skull, you sat back on the couch, pulling your knees tightly to your chest. Glancing at each other, the boys came and sat with you; Jay on the couch right next to your feet and Will on the coffee table across from you.
“Tell us what’s going on, Y/N.” Will prompted quietly. When you shrugged, he sighed. “It was what that guy said, wasn’t it?”
You scoffed. “How did you figure that out?”
He gave you a look that said joking wasn’t going to get you out of this talk, so you lowered your eyes and began picking at the string on your pajama pants.
“Y/N, you do realize that just because an idiot is hurt by rejection doesn’t mean what he says is true.” Jay told you and you nodded.
“I know that, Jay. It’s just…” You cut off suddenly, not sure you were ready to see their reactions. “I’m sorry.”
“For what?” Will asked as he moved closer to you. “You didn’t do anything wrong.”
Afraid you would lose your nerve with them staring at you so intently, you stood and walked away, placing your back to them as a barrier from their upset faces.
“I lied to you…to both of you. I’ve been lying to you for years.” You spoke quietly.
“Yeah, okay.” Will joked. “Like that is possible.”
You kept your back to them but tensed when Jay spoke. “How long?”
“Since I was twenty-five?” You answered, not really knowing when you realized your sexuality.
“Jay, what-” Will started to talk but was cut off.
“Shut up, Will.” Jay barked out as you heard him move away from the couch.
Tears built in your eyes until you felt unexpected hands grip your shoulders and turn you into a hard chest. Instantly, you curled into the embrace and gripped his shirt tightly, the way you used to as a child. One of his strong arms was around your waist while the other hand held your head close to his heart.
“I’m so sorry.” You managed to mumble out through tears.
Jay’s head shook. “You have nothing to be sorry for. I just wish we had known, so I could have punched that guys lights out tonight.”
“Wait, what’s going on?” Will asked, reminding you that he was still there.
Jay slowly moved away and lifted your chin so that you were looking directly at him. “I know that it is a sensitive thing, but you don’t need to hide who you are from us. We love you no matter what you do or who you love.”
You bit your lip as you finally let a smile grace your features and turned to face your other, very confused, brother. “Will…”
“Wait just so I’m 100% clear, because I don’t want to be the idiot that assumes one thing but-”
“I’m gay.” You blurted out and let out a snort at the ‘hey, don’t interrupt me’ look on his face.
Nodding at you, he walked over and kissed your forehead. “No wonder we haven’t met any of the ‘so-called’ boyfriends you’ve had recently.”
You shrugged and felt truly relaxed for the first time in years. “Yeah, sorry about that.”
It was only twenty minutes later as you sat on the couch watching the end of the game with your boys that you fell into a sleep that was peaceful for the first time in weeks.

My Heart Beats For You - Hailey Upton X Fem!Reader - Chicago PD
Request: Hi! I was wondering could you do a Hailey upton imagine kinda based on 8x11 signs of violence? Where the reader tells Hailey she loves her and hailey kinda freaks and starts to avoid the reader. Reader tries to think what she did wrong and thinks Hailey's going to break up with her but then hailey explains why "I love you" is so heavy to her because of her past. And then fluffy fluff fluff ensues. Thank you!!!
Anon with the Hailey request. That is absolutely fine! Whatever you feel comfortable with and that sounds awesome as well 👍🏻
A/n: So we've got a little friendship between reader and Kim
Warning: mentions of Intelligence investigating a missing persons case, mentions of kidnapping and finding a missing child
Some people underestimated how hard it was to say those classic three words to someone.
You weren't one of those people.
Growing up, it was never said to you, you had to say it first to get it said back... sometimes it wasn't said back though.
Rumination, a deep or considered thought about something.
That's what Hailey caught you doing the morning she woke up. It was supposed to be a day off, but there you were, staring at the ceiling with thoughts bubbling in your head.
"Morning..." Hailey cooed, brushing her fingers across your collarbone as she rolled closer to you, her arm moving to around your waist in order to cuddle into your side.
A soft smile broke your ruminating face as you turned to face her, kissing her forehead before you rested you forehead against hers.
"What do you want to do today?" You enquired, raising an eyebrow as Hailey smirked.
"More of this... then coffee, waffles and head out to the range... do you wanna go to the farmer's market too?" Hailey asked, smiling as she noticed you chewing your lip as you nodded.
"What are you thinking about?"
"How much I love the farmers market..." you hesistated as Hailey quirked an eyebrow, giving you a smile as you glanced up to meet her gaze for a moment, "and how much I love you..."
You didn't see how Hailey's smile dropped at that, instead your eyes were on the one feather on the duvet, fiddling with it between your fingers.
"I'm going to... I'll be right back." You were stuck watching Hailey scramble out of bed as you felt like your chest was being crushed by a rock.
"Fuck." You whispered into your pillow, hearing the bathroom door shutting.
Tumblr media
"and how much I love you..."
Those words threw Hailey into the pit, wishing she hadn't asked what you were thinking about as she shut the bathroom door, turning the taps on to splash water on her face.
"Fuck." She whispered, droplets of water dripping down her chin before she grabbed a towel, dabbing at her face.
A sigh escaped her lips as she thought back to you...
///
By the time Hailey left the bathroom, the bed had been made and you were nowhere to be seen.
She found you in the kitchen, your back to her as you ran the taps, waiting for cold water.
"Uh, so I forgot I was going to take my car in, I'm going to go before it gets busy..." Hailey explained, tying her hair up into a pony tail as she watched you turn around.
You were now clad in her hoodie over your oversized t-shirt that went down to the middle of your bare thighs.
"Do you want a coffee for the drive?" Your voice almost cracked as you turned the kettle on, trying to stop yourself from falling apart because you would not.
You were not going to fall apart over this.
"No, no, it's okay, everything is fine, uhm, just stay here, I'll be back in a little bit." Hailey replied, almost running out of the door with her car keys and coat in hand.
It was only when Hailey was gone that you let out a breath, listening to the kettle boil as you sat down on the kitchen floor.
You didn't expect your phone to buzz but you still hoped it was Hailey.
It wasn't. It was Kim messaging you about a case. You'd barely typed a reply before pouring the hot water into the travel mug and hurrying to get changed.
///
You already knew you'd messed up when Hailey started avoiding you at the missing persons crime scene. Kim had picked you up from Hailey's apartment block to drive you to the scene.
She wouldn't even meet your eyes or talk to you, leaving you to avoid Jay's gaze and attach yourself to Kim instead.
Kim didn't question it as you kept with her, noticing how you were quiet before she glanced at Hailey and saw how much of a mess you both were.
"What happened?" Kim enquired, gently nudging you with her shoulder, not expecting you to let out a sob until it escaped your lips.
"Whoah, hey, sorry, I shouldn't have asked-" Kim began but you just shook your head, not aware Hailey was listening.
"I told her I loved her. Now she's probably going to break up with me."
Kim's face dropped as she noticed how much your hands were shaking.
"Hey, hey... Y/n, it's okay, she might just be a little thrown, didn't expect it, you know... Hailey isn't like them, okay? She isn't like them." Kim replied, about to hug you but you ducked back.
"We have a child to find. I can breakdown after we find her."
///
It wasn't until way into the case that you noticed Hailey was going off the rails. She was lashing out and you weren't sure why.
"Hails... Hailey, hang on a second-"
"Y/n, there's a little kid missing!" Hailey retorted, her face dropping as she noticed you take half a step back.
"Yeah, I'm worried about Becca, but I'm worried about you as well..." Hailey's face had you immediately stop.
"Okay... I'm sorry," you let out a breath, watching Hailey frown as you were about to walk away, "I'll try again when we find Becca, okay?"
You weren't Jay, you couldn't dive into more questions without wanting to cry because you'd messed things up and this case was making it worse between the two of you.
You didn't see Hailey go to her car, sat in the driver's seat as she swiped away at the tears making it down her face.
///
It was after Becca was found and given the all clear that Hailey went to leave the district.
She didn't expect to see you sat on Kim's car, talking quietly to her as you sipped on a travel mug.
All it took was one long glance at the district doors for Kim to give you a pat on the knee and let you go.
"Uhm... so, can we talk when we get back... car talks can make my panic flare up and I-"
"Yeah..." Hailey nodded, noticing how you clung to the travel mug for dear life, almost like you were afraid to offer her your hand, in case she didn't take it.
///
"I don't think I ever really learned how to do it properly. Relationships, intimacy, telling people how I feel. You couldn't do that in my house. When I was a kid, being told 'I love you' was always after 'I'm sorry'. They were the same thing. 'I'm sorry I hurt you, it won't happen again. I love you'." Hailey glanced at you throughout this, noticing how you'd stopped fiddling with your fingers the moment she began talking.
"And you know, I believe it every time. And they did love me, but then a day later, a week later... Maybe there's some part of me that every time I hear 'I love you', I'm just waiting for the punch. For the, 'I'm sorry', that's going to come. Look, I don't know how to do this, but I want to. I want to, so badly. I wanna be with you, I wanna learn to do this, I want to be better." Hailey stared at you, waiting for the other shoe to drop as you stared at her, tears in your eyes.
She watched as you let out a breath, taking a hesistant step forwards before gently taking her hand, placing her palm where your heart was.
"Do you feel that?" you murmured, chewing your lip as Hailey nodded, a tear dripping down her cheek before she wiped it away with her free hand.
"That is my heart beating for you, um, I think that we can figure all of this out together, because I really care about you Hails, I'm not leaving you and.. I hope you're not going to leave me either. I don't want to make this about me, since I haven't spoken about it much to anyone besides Kim," you cleared your throat at that, making eye contact with Hailey began as you spoke.
"I do love you Hails, you're one of the reasons my heart beats, it beats for you... we can figure this out, hopefully?"
"I do love you, Y/n, so damn much, it's just... my heart beats for you too." Hailey replied, smiling through her tears as your eyes widened and you let out a deep breath.
"Can I hug you?" You whispered, tensing as Hailey crashed into your arms.
Hailey could feel the stress leave your shoulders as you wrapped your arms around her, your face in her hair as she pulled you close to her.

You could still feel your whole body shaking. Mustering the last of your energy, you got on your hands and knees crawling over to the corner of the room and picking up your phone. With fumbling fingers, trying not to look at the mess of the living room, your fingers dialed the one number that was etched into your mind.
“Hello?” Jay’s sleepy voice resounded at the other end of the line.
You could feel your heartrate come back slightly under control at the sound of his voice. You took a deep breath, trying to steady yourself before speaking.
“Hello?” Jay repeated, you could almost hear him trying to pull himself out of the heavy fog of sleepiness.
“Jay.” Your voice still trembled a little as his name left your lips.
“Y/N? What’s wrong?” You could hear him scrambling out of bed.

you don't need an AO3 app - round 2!!!
"AO3 is ugly and I hate the formatting!" -> you can download site skins. very gorgeous ones. and you can use them to change the aesthetics and visuals of AO3. just search 'AO3 skin' on Tumblr or even on google and you will be in A Whole New World. (and those searches should yeild tutorials on how to install the skins as well - it's not something I know a lot about, because I used to primarily use Quizilla and FFN, so I am more than used to Ugly Website. AO3 is very aesthetic and pretty compared to those.)
"AO3 is too bright!!! it hurts my eyes!!!" -> there is a dark mode. scroll down to the bottom. there is a heading that says 'customize'. under this heading, hit the button that says 'reversi'. that is their version of dark mode. and again, you can look for site skins that you like that have a darker background.
"I want to be able to make reading lists!" -> you can make bookmark collections on AO3. In your bookmarks, there is a button that says 'add to collection' beside each work. have fun. go ham. (Also, you can make private bookmarks if you are reading something with more controversial content that you don't really want others to know about - and please know, that any bookmark comments you make on public bookmarks can be seen by the author.)
(this last one made me laugh - because it seems like people are just coming up with bullshit excuses to 'need' an AO3 app when there is literally nothing that an app can go that AO3 can't.)
"my memory is really bad because of reasons sooo I remember to use things better by having them on my homescreen like an app!!!" -> create an AO3 shortcut on your homescreen. most mobile browsers have the capability to put a shortcut to a specific link or a specific website on your homescreen so that you can go straight there - like you would with opening an app. and it can be labelled 'the AO3 app' while simply having the icon of that browser. you can even do this with a link to a specific fic that you are in the process of reading (even down to the specific chapter that you were on). there is literally 0 reasons to have or use an AO3 app.
and remember kids!!! any and all apps with AO3 in their title are not associated with the real archiveofourown in any way, shape, or form - they are unofficial, and technically, they are illegal. and using them is putting all fanficition writers at risk legally (even if there is no active lawsuits right now) - just don't fucking use them. it is a threat to the entire fanfiction hobby just because you want 'the app experience'.
the archive is a non-profit website with 0 ads for a reason, and those apps are scummy scammers who put ads on our stories to make fast easy money when none of the people who made those stories ever consented to it.

Absolution and Mercy (7x9-7x10) || Jay Halstead x Healstead Sister
Tumblr media
*re-posting this because I'm stupid and accidentaly delated my blog 🫠
This is the plot from season 7, episodes 9 and 10 but with Jay's younger sister involved in the story.
Did I cry a bit writing this? Yes I did.
Becca was usually the first one to be picked up after her afternoon classes were over, but this day she was left alone in the sidewalk. It was getting dark, she was cold and scared. At the distance she detected how a car was approaching her at full speed, but it wasn't Jay. It was Will, and she only realized that when he parked in front of her.
-"Sorry I'm so late. In my defense, Jay called me all of the sudden. I drived as fast as I could, then I got lost. Are you going to get in or what? It's freezing outside".
-"Where's Jay?" The girl asked when she was inside of the car.
-"He didn't say. He was in a hurry when he called me, he might be working in a case, something must have poped out unexpectedly. You know how it is".
-"Are you taking me home?"
-"No, I can't leave you there alone. We're going to my place. Jay will pick you up later, or I will take you back with him. He will give me a call, don't worry".
But that call never happened. During the course of the night, Will called his brother several times, but he never answered.
-"Do you think he is in danger?" Becca was starting to get worried.
-"No". Will lied. -"Maybe he's still working and he's not carrying his personal phone".
That argument didn't convince her at all.
-"It's late and you have school tomorrow, so this is what we're gonna do. Go take a shower, I'll find some clothes you can use to sleep on. I will take the sofa, so you can sleep comfy in my bed".
Not wanting to, Becca obeyed her brother. She couldn't hide her concern for Jay and Will was trying to ignore it, pretending nothing was going on. He was also quiet preoccupied but didn't want to show it. When his sister was out of the room, he gave it another try.
-"Hey, man. It's me again. Call me back as soon as you hear this...please. Bec's alright, don't worry. We're just...We want to make sure you're safe".
The sun began to set on the horizon without news of the missing Halstead brother. Will had barely slept during the night, he distributed his time between trying to reach Jay and checking on Becca, who also had a rough night. He was half asleep when a ray of light coming through the window woke him up.
-"Shit". He muttered looking at his cellphone. There were no signs of Jay.
He went to his room and found his sister sleeping under the blankets. He had to make a plan and act normal, she obviously knew something was wrong.
-"Bec". He softly moved her shoulder. -"Bec, wake up".
-"Is Jay back?" She asked half asleep.
-"No. I'm taking you home so you can get ready for school. Come on".
-"Do you think he is going to be there?"
-"We'll find out".
Will opened the door of Jay's appartment with his copy of the keys. He entered first, making sure everything was in order. Becca followed him when he gave her a sign to get in.
-"This is not good". She said. -"Where is he?"
-"I don't know. I'll pass by the 21st after I drop you off at school. Let's hope they have an answer to this mystery".
-"No. We'll pass by the 21st before you drop me off at school".
Trudy Platt was at her desk talking on the phone with the State's Attorney. She got confused when she saw both Halstead siblings entering the room, their presence wasn't a good singn, she felt it in her guts.
Sergeant Platt went up to the bullpen with Will and Becca behind her. All of the detectives were gathered there, except for Jay. The little girl looked all over the place and made a disappointed face when didn't spot her brother.
-"Hey, is Halstead on a UC run?" Trudy asked Voight.
-"Not that I know about".
-"State's Attorney is all over me. He's supposed to be in court right now. His brother and little sister are also looking for him". She pointed at them with her head.
-"He called me yesterday and asked me to take care of Becca. He was supposed to pick her up later, but never showed up. We went to his place this morning and wasn't there". Will intervened.
-"Hailey, you know anything?"
-"No, I called him a few times, but---".
-"I did too". Platt said.
-"No answer". Will concluded showing his phone. -"This is so out of character for him. He's overprotective, he would never forget about Becca like this. He didn't even called to make sure she was already with me, didn't ask if she was fine as he always does".
-"I ran the GPS on his truck...". Platt stoped and moved her eyes from Will and Becca before continuing.
-"Nothing I say will make her go downstairs". Will stated as giving her permission to keep on talking.
-"It's parked on a street in Englewood".
-"How long has it been there?"
-"All night. I ran the in-service calls to that block, there were two calls of suspicious persons at a house on that street".
Becca took a few steps to the front to reach her brother's arm.
-"Thanks, Trudy".
-"Check it out". Hank ordered to his detectives. -"We'll keep you updated". He said to Will.
-"Please find him". Becca begged the sergeant.
-"We won't stop until we find him". He reassured her with a smile and petting her head.
-"Let's move. I'll take you to school". The doctor said to his sister. -"You already missed a couple of classes".
-"Are you joking? I'm staying" She said staring directly at his eyes.
-"You'll be better at school than here or at The Med".
-"I myself will inform you when we find him, it's a promise". Trudy ended the conversation.
School was being worse than usual for Becca, she couldn't stop thinking about her brother. She was so deep in her toughts that she didn't even hear the daily mockery of her classmates. The clock was ticking slowly and her eyes began to fill with tears.
-"I'm here to take Becca Halstead". The school's principal interrupted the class. -"Take your backpack, sweetie. They're here to pick you up".
The tone on the woman's voice reminded her of that time Burgess and Roman took her to the bullpen because Jay was being threatened. She took her stuff and walked throught the hallway to find Trudy Platt at the office.
-"Here she is, Sergeant. You can take her now".
-"I promised you that I would inform you as soon as they found it. The team just found him".
-"Is he-".
-"I don't know anything else". Platt interrupted. -"I just know he was found". She lied, she wasn't the indicated to talk with her about his condition. -"Come on, I'll take you to The Med. Will is waiting there".
The Med was full of cops and detectives as usually happened when one of their own was wounded. For Will it was surreal that this time the victim was his brother, he still couldn't assimilate the fact. His mind was all disturbed constantly changing from the doctor to the brother role and viceversa. Apart from Jay's state of health, what worried him the most was Becca. Despite having notified a lot of bad news during his career, he had no clue how to discuss the situation with his little sister. He didn't want to, but he didn't want anyone else to be the one telling her the news. He was also uncommonly scared to enter the waiting room where the policemen were waiting for updates.
Hailey Upton was sitting leaning over with her elbows on her knees, the fear was evident on her face. Looking at her teary eyes it was obvios how much she had been crying. It wasn't strange at all, she and Halstead had been partners for a couple of years now and their relationship had grown to a good friendship, a very good friendship. Detective Rojas sat next to her and extended her a coffee, leaning a hand on her back as a reassuring gesture.
Kevin and Adam were also there, both standing up, for anxiety did not allow them to stay still. The rest of the place was packed with uniformed. Hank Voight was on his feet, concern was evident through his eyes. A lot of officers and commanders approached him offering their support.
With a heavy sigh and holding back a lot of emotions, Will encouraged himself to go inside with them. Everybody stood up at his presence. Detective Upton quickly positioned herself in front of him, followed by the rest of the team.
-"Hey, Everybody". Somehow he was managing to stay as the doctor, not the brother. -"I just talked to Dr. Marcel, he said the bullet grazed an artery. They are still trying to repair it".
-"Will?" Hank Voight intervened. -"Is he gonna be ok?"
-"He's lost a lot of blood". Words stuck in his throat and dried stoped talking. Ruzek gave him a pat on the shoulder to show emotional support, there wasn't relly anything else to do.
-"Will..." Maggie interrupted from the outside of the waiting room. Everyone turned their attention to the charge nurse and there was no need for her to explain anything. Becca was right behind her, her big hazel eyes wide open looking at all of the cops and some other familiar faces, trying to comprehend what was going on.
-"Oh, Bec...". Will approached to her sweating cold, with his heart raced in fear.
-"Wh--What's going on?" She asked, not being able to take her eyes off the cops. -"Sergeant Platt told me they found Jay, but nothing else. What happened?". Her voice was charged with despair.
The detectives' eyes were all on Becca, wide open as if waiting for a reaction from the girl.
-"Yeah. Ok. Hmm--there's no easy way to say this". His voice was very low and raspy. -"Jay was kidnapped, but his team found him and...".
-"Where is he? Can I see him?" The little girl interrupted calmly.
-"Jay was shot, Becca. He's going into surgery right now". As a doctor, he knew there wasn't other way of saying it.
-"Oh". The girl said as if it was a casual situation. -"But, I mean...he's going to be fine, right?".
-"He's...lost a lot o blood".
-"But it's Jay". Becca interrupted with a smiled, more as a symtom of a nervour breakdown, eyes starting to get teary. Maybe she didn't realize it, but she was avoiding the rest of the information. -"He has been shot before, he's like indestructible".
At that moment, Becca sensed how Maggie held her shoulders, and the weight of the world fell on the little girl. The atmosphere felt the same as when Jay told her that their mother had died, as same as when Will explained to her that they would have to disconnect their father. All of those memories and feelings were taking control over her, but this time Jay wasn't there to help her go through them.
-"Bec..."
-"No..."
-"Becca, he was shot in the chest, no bulletproof vest. He has lost a lot of blood...".
-"Will--". Maggie tried to stop the doctor.
-"Shut up!"
-"...but he's in surgery right now with Dr. Marcel, one of the very best in Chicago and he's..."
-"Just stop!". Becca cried.
-"Dr. Halstead!" Maggie insisted worried for how Becca was taking the news. There has to be another way of notifyig.
-"...doing his best to save our brother's life. He is in the best hands". He tried to hold her, but she refused him.
-"Is he goig to die?" Becca asked in a very low voice and bursted into an uncontrollable crying.
Will held his sister as tight as he could, so tight she was barely breathing under his arms. He tried to keep his composure, but broke down when he heard his little sister crying loud. He kissed her head, there was nothing to say, nothing to do, just be there for each other.
The intelligence team witnessed the scene and was moved by it, but most of all it made their anger grow even more. Tears rolled down Hailey's cheeks, Adam just stared at the floor with his arms crossed. Hank Voight patted Becca on the back as he passed through te sibblings to run into Burgess, who had just arrived.
-"I got an update on Angela Nelson".
-"Okay".
-"Doctors removed the bullet. She's gonna be fine".
-"Where is she?" And with that only question, they both left the place in a hurry.
With all of the movement that was generated, Will separated from Becca and took her by the shoulders: -"Come on, let's sit". They walked embraced, everyone moving to let them pass. She knew all of the detectives who were present, each one of them tried to make her feel their suport: Atwater squeezed her shoulder, Vanessa gave her a warm smile, Adam gave her a hug and Hailey sat right next to her holding her hand.
Not wanting to leave the hospital, Intelligence detectives had to withdraw due to a case assigned by Superintendent Crawford, something Hank couldn't avoid. Detective Upton was the only one that refused to leave, and no one contradicted her.
A couple of hours passed, but it felt like an eternity for Becca. There were still no news about Jay and that made her agony grow.
-"Why is it taking so long?" She was walking from one side to another, anxiety starting to increase.
-"These procedures are very delicate, they take a lot of time. You know what? You should go home". Will suggest. -"I don't think it is a good idea for you to stay here so much time. I'll find someone who can take you. You need rest, to change clothes, you haven't even eat anything".
-"I'm not going anywhere, Will". Becca answered with a stern tone that reminded of Jay's way of talking in distress. They were so alike.
-"Dr. Halstead". Maggie interrupted. -"I'm so sorry, you are requiered in the ER".
Will stared at his little sister, not knowing what to do, he would never leave her by herself in a normal day, much less under the circumstances they were going through.
-"Come on. I can't leave you here alone. Take your backpack, you can stay in the Doctor's room or in a dormitory while I find someone who can take you...".
-"I am not going anywhere, Will". Becca repeated her own words, this time with a little bit of anger.
-"Bec, I get it, I totally do. You want to stay here for Jay, but we will be updated in the ER, I just can't leave you here alone".
-"Alone? This must be the safest place in the hospital right now". She said pointing to all of the cops around.
-"I am not going anywhere". Upton interrupted before Will could continue. -"I can take care of her".
-"Hailey, you don't have to, you are already going through a lot right now and you are on duty, so...".
-"Nobody will move me from here, Will. It's ok, for real".
-"Is that all right for you?". Will looked at Becca and noticed the tiredness and sadness in her eyes as she nodded. -"Ok, all right. Just promise me that you'll eat something, kiddo". He approached to his little sister and kissed her forehead before parting.
-"Not really hungry, but I'll try".
-"Please do it for me. I'll be back as soon as I can".
His heart dropped when he walked out of the room, she also felt a little bit helpless, alone. It was true that she knew Hailey since a few years ago, she liked her and trusted her, but she wasn't her family and that's what she needed at the moment.
-"What if I bring you a hamburger from the cafeteria?" Maggie smiled to Becca. -"Don't you dare to say 'no' to me. I know it's your favorite, I'll be right back".
Becca took a deep breath and sighed, her leg was shaking a lot even standing up. Despair and anxiety were taking over her small body, she felt the urge to hit something or somebody. Her mind started going around, she couldn't live without Jay, what would she do without her big brother? She was nothing without him. A lot of memories came to her mind, good ones and bad ones. Suddenly she was crying without even noticing it.
-"Hey!" Hailey called her from her seat and forced a smile for the girl. -"Wanna join me here?".
Becca sat next to her brother's partner, not really knowing what to do or what to say. She tried to hold her tears, but failed, so she wiped them away as soon as they got out of her eyes. Hailey placed a hand in Becca's shaking leg.
-"You don't need to do that. You can cry in front of me, I won't judge you. I mean, look at me". They both smiled. -"Here, hold my hand, squeeze it. Breath with me, it will help you ease your toughts: 4 in, hold 7 and 8 out".
-"Thank you". The little Halstead sister said when she was more calmed.
-"I know you and Jay are very close. He's so private, but he still talks a lot about you with me".
-"He does?".
-"Yes. When we started working together, before knowing he had a sister, I always tought he was talking about his daughter".
-"Imagine that". Becca made a disgust gesture and laughed a bit. -"I know you two are very fond too. He never talks about work with me, but you wouldn't be here if you didn't care for him". She didn't feel like revealing right there that Jay had talked about her before.
-"He is a good partner, it's hard to find one". The girl stared at her for a few seconds, then they stayed in silence for a couple of minutes, staring at the floor. Becca was a sensible girl, she understood there was more behind Detective Upton words and suddenly Hailey felt like family.
-"I'm really scared". She confessed while unconsciously hugging Hailey's arm.
-"Me too". The detective held her tight. -"But your brother, he is a tough guy, he's strong of mind and body. And he loves you so much, he won't stop fighting to overcome this and come back to you. I can assure you that".
A very special connection was formed between Hailey and Becca in that exact moment. In Hailey's arms, Becca found the peace she needed to rest, and fell asleep while she stroked her ginger tousled hair. Inside her chest, Hailey was feeling the urgent need to protect the little girl, as if she was her own sister. She never let her go while they waited together, if anything, she held her tighter as time passed by.
Rojas found them like that when she went back to the hospital to check on Hailey.
-"Hey". Vanessa announced her presence.
-"Hey". Upton answered back in a low voice, trying to hug her roomate, but couldn't really move with Becca asleep in her shoulder.
-"I got you some gyro from Greek Islands, I tought you might be hungry".
-"That's really sweet of you. Thanks". She took the back with her unoccupied hand.
-"And I got you some clean clothes from the appartment".
-"Thank you". She genuinely smiled.
-"Have we heard anything about Jay?" She sat down next to her friend.
-"No". Upton sadly answered, unconsciously checking on Becca, who was now half awake. -"He's gonna freak out when he wakes up, the man hates needles. I can't figure him out, he's the first one through the door, a war vet. And he'd rather take a bullet than get the flu shot".
Becca, who was now listening everything, internally laughed at that last comment. That was a good description of his brother.
-"Hailey, I know how hard this must be for you".
-"It's always hard when something like this happens".
-"It's hard because you love him". Vanessa Rojas said simply.
Becca's heart began to beat a little bit faster, this time for a good feeling instead of anxiety. Of course she was in love with her brother, everything made sense now. And she knew Jay had feelings for her too. Maybe that was why she felt so secure by her side.
-"Of course I love him. He's my partner". Hailey answered to finish the conversation.
Both detectives phones started to buzz and Becca took advantage of that to pretend that she had just woken up.
-"Ruzek got a lead on the home invasion". Rojas looked at her phone.
-"Yeah. Um, I'm gonna stay". Hailey said looking at Becca, who looked devastated even after having rested a bit.
-"Is everything all right?" The younger Halstead asked when Rojas left. Hailey nodded her head, not being able to controll her sobbing. The last conversation had moved a lot inside of her and was now a mixure of feelings.
Another hour passed by and Becca couldn't take it anymore.
-"Where's Will? He was supposed to be back soon and also keep us updated.
-"He was here a few times, but you were deep asleep. He didn't want to bother you. He had no news, though".
-"I heard my favorite Halstead didn't want to leave her brother's side". A familiar voice called, it was Trudy Platt. She approached with a bag in her hands. -"So I thought it would help to bring you some clothes, hunny. I mean, CPD sweaters and pants might not be the best, but they should be more confortable than that uniform you've been wearing all day. These are the smallest I found, I'm positive they'll fit you".
When Becca came back from the restroom, all changed and carrying the other clothes, she found Hailey and Platt standing up in front of Will. Fear ran through her entire body once more, not knowing what to expect, since the three of them looked very serius. It was Hailey who spotted the little girl petrified in terror at the entrance of the room.
-"Bec". Will called her. -"He's all right. Jay is going to be fine".
-"Are you sure?" She dropped her clothes and started to cry happy tears.
-"It will take time for him to recover and I can assure you he will be a pain in the ass, but he's going to be all right".
Becca laughed and jumped into her brother's arms, who lifted her up a bit in the air. Upton and Platt presenced the scene with teary eyes of relief and a smile from ear to ear.
-"Can I see him?"
-"He's still asleep, but of course. You can wait by his side until he wakes up. Come on, I'll take you there. My shift will end in a couple of hours and then I'll fully be with you two".
-"Oh, but wait!" She turned to Hailey, before following her brother. -"You should come with us. Will, she can come with us, right?".
-"I don't think is a good idea. I'll wait in here until he wakes up, don't worry". She rushed to say before letting Will answer.
-"No. I really think you should come". Once more, there was that tone so similar to Jay comming from Becca.
-"There's no problem, Hailey. If you want to, you can come". The doctor confirmed.
When Jay woke up, Hailey was out changing her clothes. Becca was the first person he spotted when he opened his eyes.
-"Hey". He managed to say and raised his unharmed arm trying to reach his little sister, taking her elbow. -"Why are you crying?" She took his hand and squeezed it as tight as she could.
-"Because I'm happy you're alive, dummy". Jay smiled when he heard her voice.
Both siblings had a lot of things to say, but they didn't need words to express their feelings. They stared at each others eyes and it was enough to understand what they were going through.
-"I know". Jay said feeling how emotional Becca was. -"Come here". He opened his arm within his posibilities and with a lot of caution she laid down her head to hug him back. -"I'm sorry. I'm so, so, sorry". He kept repeating in a raspy voice.
They stayed like that for a while. Jay couldn't stop thinking about his actions and what would had happened to Becca if he had died. She was the only thing on his toughts when he received the shot. Becca relaxed when she heard her brother's heartbeat, it was the definitive evidence she needed to make sure he was really alive.
-"How are you feling?"
-"Like I was asleep for a year".
-"You needed a little rest".
-"Sorry to interrupt". Detective Upton came into the scene, embarrased to be the reason they had to separate. -"I didn't noticed you were already awake".
-"Don't worry. You are just in time". Becca smiled.
-"Hailey?" Jay started and she walked to the other side of the bed.
-"You know I hate hospitals".
-"Oh, you are just fine already, aren't you?". Becca rolled her teary eyes, but the comment made Hailey laughed a bit.
-"I do".
-"You gotta get me out of here".
-"It's not optional, no".
Hank Voight entered almost immediately and stood next to his detectives.
-"Becca, happy to see your eyes lighting again". He greeted her first with a head nodd, then talked to Jay: -"How's the shoulder?"
-"It feels like I'll be flying a little crooked for a while.
-"I went and talked to Will and he said no structural damage, so you got lucky".
-"I guess you could call it that".
There was something going around Jay's mind, but he couldn't ask with the presence of his little sister. He didn't want her to leave, but he had to ask Voight, and there wasn't going to be another chance.
-"Uh, Bec--why don't you go and..."
-"I guess I'll go find Will, yes". Becca said feeling the tension.
-"How's Angela doing?" He finally asked when they were alone.
-"She's under arrest".
From outside the room, Becca saw Hailey and Voight going out having a brief conversation, they looked concerned. When they split up, the Sergeant walked into another room and Upton rushed out of the hospital.
-"Is your shift already over?" Becca asked Will when he passed by, not even noticing her.
-"Half an hour and I'm done". He said looking at his clock. -"Look at you, all smiley again".
-"Jay woke up. They are running some tests right now. He's going to loose it if there are needles involved".
-"He just received a shot and I do believe he would still be afraid of a needle". The siblings laughed.
The three Halsteads stayed together as much as they could, but it was getting late and they were tired. Becca's eyes started to close due to mental exhaustation, she had cried all day and her mind was pushed to the limit. Now that everything was calmed coudn't avoid to fall asleep although the chair she was sitting in was the most unconfortable.
-"I think it's time to go". Will said. -"She stayed by your side all day, didn't want to move for a second. She was really, really worry".
-"Maybe I wasn't the indicated to be in charge of her". Jay sighed and spat what he had in his mind. -"Maybe we should have let aun Clair take her".
-"And just let her go to New York far away from us? Like, never see her again? What are you talking about, Jay? Where is this comming from, anyway?"
-"It's not the first time I've put her in a situation like this".
-"Stop thinking about it. It's the sedatives, you are all sensible and tired and need more rest. We are good, Jay. There is no one with whom she is better than with you, not even me".
A few days passed before Jay was discharged. Becca noticed how a lot of people visited him more than once: Kim, Adam, Kevin, Vanessa, Hank, Trudy and a bunch of other cops she didn't recognize. Her brother was a beloved soul and the love he received was extended towards her. She stayed inside of the room with all of the visits, except with Hailey. She always found an excuse to go out of the room when Detective Upton arrived.
-"All right. Finally, time to go home". Will said carrying a bag. -"Got you clean clothes and other stuff you may need".
-"Thank you".
-"Are you sure you don't need a hand?" Dr. Halstead asked before going out.
-"I'm good. I'll be using only one hand for a couple of days, so I might get used to it from now on".
-"I'll be around if you change your mind. Bec, let's go. Give the man some space".
Becca already knew all of the hospital, specially the ER, so she was left alone on the hallway while Will went back to work. She went to the vending machine to get something to eat while waiting for Jay. She got a juice for herself and was about to take a bag of gummies for her brother when a voice interrupted her.
-"Isn't a little bit early for candies?" It was Dr. Charles.
-"Oh, no. These are for my brother. He is about to be discharged, I tought about getting him his favorites".
-"That's a nice gesture and I'm happy to hear he's going out.
These past days were very hectic, weren't they?".
-"You bet".
Becca started walking slowly back to Jay's room, the psychiatrist by her side.
-"Dr. Charles?"
-"Yes, tell me".
-"Did Will send you to spy on me?"
-"What makes you think that?"
-"I know you've been following me around the hospital for the last couple of days. If I go to the restroom, you are there. If I go to the cafeteria, you are there. Whenever I'm alone, you are there...and now we're here". Becca smiled.
-"Oh. It wasn't my intention to make you feel harassed. Your brother Will wants to make sure you are fine, that's all".
-"No, it's ok. I think I understand".
-"Good. Well, now that we're here, would you mind if I ask you how are you doing? Your mind and body were under a lot of stress for a long period of time".
-"I'm fine. I mean, Jay is alive, that's all that matters".
-"Hm. You are right. Anyway, I'll be around if you feel the need to talk. Even when you go back home, you know I will be here".
-"Thanks, Dr. Charles".
That last conversation was strange for the little girl, why would she need to talk to Dr. Charles? Jay was alive, everything was fine. She couldn't stop going around it in her mind, she tought about telling Jay about it, but when she was close to his room she detected someone else inside, it was Hailey. Becca stood watching from afar how the detective was helping her brother to put on his sweater, that made her smile. She didn't know what they were talking about, but from her place it seemed they were very close from each other. Becca turned and walked away to give them some space.
Thanks for reading. If you liked it, it would help my soul if you give it a like, comment or share. 😌♡

Several Missed Calls and a Sprained Ankle || Jay Halstead x Halstead Sister one shot
*re-posting this because I'm stupid and accidentaly delated my blog 🫠
Also appearing Will and Connor Rhodes because I miss him.
I'm not a doctor, medical topics are vague.
Friendly reminder that Becca is Halstead sister.
The Intelligence squad had just came back to the bullpen with a suspect in custody when Sergeant Platt came inside to interrupt whatever they were having.
-"Hey, Halstead! I've been receiving calls from your sister's school all day. They said they called your father, but didn't answer, so she asked them to look for you, but your phone was off".
-"I was in a UC run, I always turn the personal off...". He tried to explain himself with guilt.
-"That's what I tried to explain to them. Apparently she's injured and needs to be picked up as soon as possible".
-"Wh-what happened?" He hadn't even finished taking off his jacket and now he was hastily putting it back on.
-"They didn't elaborate on the matter, but they've been calling like crazy every half hour. I even volunteered to go and bring her here, but they did say it would be impossible if I'm not in the list". She pulled a face with that last statement. -"Can you believe that?"
Everybody settled in at the bullpen, all detectives listening to the conversation.
-"Boss..." Jay looked at Voight.
-"Sure, go. What are you waiting for?". He ordered with his arms crossed. -"We can take care of this".
Jay nodded his head as saying "thank you" and walked himself down to the parking lot trying to look chill, although on the inside he was really unsettled for whatever had happened to his little sister. He couldn't avoid being the overprotective big brother, it ran through his veins.
-"Hey, Detective. Make sure you put my name in that freakin' list!". Platt yelled before he crossed the door. -"I don't want to feel so humiliated again". She said in her usual exaggerated way. Then she muttered to herself: I'm a CPD Sergeant, who dares to say 'no' to me like that?
The long road to Becca's school in Canaryville wasn't helpful to ease Jay's mind. He was also feeling abashed for not being able to answer the call on time, although he was not responsible for attending those emergencies, therefore he was not aware of them. And where the hell was his father? Why didn't he answer those calls from school? He cursed him. This wasn't the first time something like this happened.
-"I'm here to pick my sister, Becca Halstead".
-"Oh, sure. We've been calling you for hours. Literally hours". The secretary gave him a judging look, which Jay tried to ignore. -"She's upstairs, the nurse is accompanying her. I'll notify her you're here. Follow me".
Jay followed the woman through the halls of the school until they went outside to the back yard. From the second floor of the building in front of them, he recognized Becca's ginger blonde hair. She was leaning on someone else to walk, looked like she couldn't do it by herself and there was some pain in her tiny face.
-"What happened?" Jay asked without taking his eyes off her.
-"She sprained her foot on the stairs, she didn't roll or hit her head, so there was no need to call an ambulance. It was an accident, some kids were playing around and pushed her unintentionally. We already took action on the matter, don't worry about that".
He walked upstairs to help his sister. As soon as he was able to entirely see her, he noticed how her foot was in the air, shoe untied.
-"Jay!" Becca said with relief.
-"It's all right". The secretary told the nurse. -"Her brother will handle it from here".
-"Is it your ankle? You can't put your foot down at all?"
-"No, it really hurts". Becca moved her head from one side to another.
-"It's a little bit swollen". The nurse talked. -"I applied ointment and ice for the pain, but I can't really do anything else in here. I think it's just a sprain, but she should be checked at the hospital".
-"Yes, I'll take her straight to The Med. Thank you!"
Jay took his badge and gun from his hips and placed them somewhere else in his jeans.
-"Sorry". He said, feeling the alarmed gaze of the two women. Then, he took the girl's backpack and put it on his shoulder. -"All right, Becs. Come here".
Jay hugged Becca and lifted her to carry her down the stairs. It was very easy for him, light weight, the girl was smaller than an average 10 years old. She placed her arms around her brother's shoulder.
-"Take care, Beckie". The nurse waved goodbye as she was taken by the detective.
-"This is so embarrassing". She said looking around to check if somebody was watching them, but the yard was empty, everyone was inside of the classrooms. Jay couldn't resist to laugh a bit. It was a cute funny scene: a big, tall, muscular man with a girly purple backpack hanging from his shoulder and a girl with an embarrassed face in his arms.
He didn't put her down until they were back to the office, where he had to sign some papers before leaving.
-"Is that all?" Jay asked.
-"Yes, you can take her now".
-"Oh! Before I forget". He said turning around one more time to the reception. -"I want to add another person to the list of people who can pick her up".
-"Sure. She does need that". She didn't miss the chance to look at him with a judgy face. -"What's the name of the one?".
-"Trudy Platt". He smirked. Becca just gave him a look.
At the truck, Jay placed her in the co-pilot seat and then opened the back door to put the backpack away.
-"What do you carry in this? Rocks?" He freed his shoulder from the weight.
Becca wasn't a talkative girl, but still she was unusually quiet during the road to the hospital. She only broke the silence to groan in pain, that's when he noticed her teary eyes.
-"Does it hurt?" Jay asked, knowing the answer.
-"Yes. I think it's getting worse".
-"We're almost there, just hang up a little bit".
He wanted to ask Becca about how she had fallen, since his detective instincts knew that it was due to something more than an accident. He opened his mouth to say something he had been holding up, but an incoming call interrupted his intentions.
-"It says Hailey Upton". Becca announced, grabbing his phone.
-"Gotta answer that". He sighed. -"Would you put it in the speaker for me, please?".
Both siblings knew each other quite well. Becca knew how Jay noticed something strange was going on, but she didn't want to be interrogated. And Jay knew how Becca was aware of that and was reluctant to speak.
-"Soooooo...Is Sergeant Platt coming to pick me now if I get sick?" She changed the conversation as soon as the call ended.
-"Is that a problem?" Jay laughed out loud.
-"Well, it's kinda scary".
-"She told me to put her name in the list, I don't know if it was true, though. The thing is that today I was on the streets working a case when all this happened. I didn't have my phone with me, that's why I didn't answer".
-"I imagined that. That's why I told them to call directly to the 21st".
-"Which was very clever of you. I'm sorry I wasn't there earlier, I should have".
-"You don't have to be sorry, I'm not blaming you for anything. You are not even supposed to be responsible for me, anyway".
She had this sort of way to make claims to his father and mother without even realizing it. That last statement made the rest of the road extremely quiet.
The moment Becca crossed the entrance door sitting in a wheelchair, she realized she had never been at The Med as a patient before. Maggie was pushing her to the ER where Will was waiting for his siblings. Due to the type of injury, Dr. Rhodes was assigned to Becca's case.
-"This is too swollen". Connor said while checking her foot. -"On a scale from 1 to 10, how much does it hurt?"
-"Uh, I don't know. Maybe 5?"
Both of her big brothers stared at her teary eyes and her sick gesture, not believing her answer. She was trying so hard not to cry.
-"6?"
-"Are you sure?" The doctor gave her a warm smile. -"I was expecting you to say 10 or maybe even beyond 10".
Becca remained silent, pressing her lips.
-"Ok. We'll do an X-Ray just to make sure it isn't more than a sprain. Meanwhile, the nurse will administer you some pain killers".
He went out of the room to order the studios and made a sign for the siblings to follow him outside, leaving their sister alone with the technicians for a few minutes.
-"What do you think?" Dr. Halstead asked.
-"I don't think she just simply twisted her ankle. For the damage, it must have been a harder impact".
-"Is it bad?" Jay asked with concern.
-"Can't tell until I see the X-Ray. What worries me the most right now is how hard she's trying to take the pain".
-"Yeah, that's something she does". Jay sighed. -"Not only with physical pain".
When the three men entered back to the room, Becca was silently crying, wiping her tears away. Jay was the one that approached to hold her. Her bruised and swollen ankle was a standout in the room.
-"Becca, you have what we call a severe grade 2 sprain and I'm pretty sure it hurts more than a lot right now. Why don't you say anything? You can complain about the pain, that's what hospitals are for".
-"I don't want to be a bother". The girl answered quietly, tears still dropping from her eyes.
-"What are you talking about?" Will walked to be close to the bed.
-"Becca...". Jay sat next to her and bent to be face to face. -"You are not a bother and you will never be".
-"It's just...I'm scared you'll stop answering the phone calls too".
In that moment, everything fell into place and Jay's heart dropped. The conversation suddenly closed to just the two of them, although everyone could hear their words.
-"Bec...I will never stop caring for you. I won't lie, sometimes it gets hard with my work, but I will do what is necessary so that something like today does not happen again. I promise".
-"But you shouldn't, like, you shouldn't be the one in charge of me. I'm a burden".
-"I know what you mean, and I know how you feel about dad, but believe me when I tell you how much it makes me happy to be here for you. I'm your big brother, it actually is my job to protect you. I love you, silly. I would never forgive myself if something happens to you. I wouldn't forgive myself if you didn't have the confidence to call me either".
With all being said and those emotions off her chest, her crying increased in tears and sound.
-"It's a 20. The pain is a 20" She managed to say in what seemed to be overacted, although it was only the natural response to having endured so much physical and emotional pain in such a short time.
-"Let's apply more pain killers". Connor talked to the nurses. -"And let's finish this up". He smiled at the little girl.
Jay found her reaction a little bit cute and couldn't resist smiling a bit when she jumped into her arms.
-"You will have to use the walking boot for at least 4 weeks". Dr. Rhodes informed when he finished. -"That if everything goes well".
-"What about dance lessons?"
-I'm sorry, Becs". -Dr. Halstead got into the conversation. -"That's going to be impossible. You need to give it a rest".
-"Not to mention the pain that would cause you".
-"Is she going to be able to be back when her ankle heals?"
-"If she listens to my recommendations in the letter, I don't see why not". Connor then turned to Becca: "I know this thing is very uncomfortable, but is necessary. You might start feeling as if you don't need it before the set time, but it is important that you do not take it off until I say so. If you trust me and you do this, You'll be fine and back to dancing soon".
Becca nodded sadly.
-"I understand this is very important to you, Becca. I can arrange to see you each week instead of two weeks to check how it is going".
-"Thank you, Connor''. His colleague said.
Becca yawned more than once on their way back to the Bullpen. She was discharged from the hospital, so she couldn't stay there and there wasn't any other place Jay could leave her. She was tired, her stressed body only wanting to rest.
-"Look at that!" Platt exclaimed when she spotted both Halsteads crossing the front door. -"It is my favorite Halstead!"
-"I'm glad to hear she's your favorite, because you are in the list now, Serge".
The Desk Sergeant smirked at the news.
-"I take this honor responsible".
-'All right, girl". Jay said, bending in front of the stairs. -"Let's do this again".
Becca hopped into her brother's back and he carried her upstairs, where all the squad greeted her with enthusiasm and good wishes. She sat in the coffee room waiting for him.
-"The punk confessed. We have enough evidence. It was an easy case, we're done for now". Voight informed Detective Halstead.
-"I'm sorry I wasn't here for interrogation, Serge. There was no one to take care of her...".
-"There's nothing to be sorry about''. Hank waved his hand from one side to another. -"Besides, you did your job, a good job capturing him. Now, you all are dismissed. You should take your sister to rest".
Detectives were able to go back home relatively early that day. The bullpen was empty when Jay went out of Hank Voight's office. There was only a blonde woman sitting at the desk in front of him.
-"Why are you still here?"
-"Your sister fell asleep on the couch. It didn't feel good to leave her alone in her condition". Hailey answered.
-"Thank you for that". He said honestly.
-"The same thing happened to me when I was a little bit older than her. I know it hurts like hell".
-"Yeah, she had a bad time. She's tired and drugged in pain killers, I should take her home".
-"Tell me if you need help with anything, I'm here. For real, partner". Detective Upton took her coat and walked herself downstairs.
-"Thanks again, Hails".
-"No problem".
It took him a while to stop staring at the stairs before going into the coffee room. There she was deeply asleep, it looked like she was melting.
-"Becca". He softly called her. -"Becca, it's time to go". But there was no answer, not even when he shaked her.
-"Well, third time's the charm. What could go wrong?" He muttered to himself and took Becca in his arms, this time as if she was a baby.

Could you write a halstead!sister where she is going to graduate. She sees Jay and Will on the crowd and gets really happy because she though they were too busy to come? Then they tell her how proud they are xx
Pairing: Will Halstead x HalsteadSister!Reader x Jay Halstead
Imagine: Seeing Jay and Will’s proud faces at graduation
A/N: Managed to write this as a drabble, so I included it as part of the 1K celebration!

Being alone at your own graduation was something you hadn’t seen coming.
You’d thought your father would be here, even if he had a disgruntled look on his face. You closed your eyes and shoved the apartment fire out of your mind. You couldn’t let your mind go there today.
You thought maybe one of your brothers could be here, at least. But you’d heard Jay on the phone this morning talking about a new case and you knew Will was on shift.
You weren’t mad, you knew how hard your brothers worked to care for you. You knew how much your brothers loved you. It was just a little weird being here alone when you knew everyone else was surrounded by family.
You stood with the rest of your class as you got ready to go up on stage, in single file.
You could hear the family members’ of your friends cheering as they each received their certificates and you took a deep breath, reminding yourself the silence you’d be greeted with wouldn’t mean anything.
You shook the dean’s hand, taking your cert and turning to the front for the customary photo when you saw it – the unmistakeable flash of red hair that could only be one person.
Will was standing there in the crowd, with Jay. Both of them beaming up at you before they started cheering. Your brain hadn’t even realised the cheers were too loud to be just from the two of them before you saw the rest of them, your brother’s friends – Adam, Kevin, Hailey, Connor, Kelly, Natalie.
Your family was here.
You weren’t looking at the official camera when you smiled, but it was a genuine smile.
“There she is!” Jay called triumphantly as you headed over to meet them after the ceremony. Your brothers practically tackled you into a hug as everyone took turns to congratulate you, like you’d won an academy award.
You felt like you had, to be honest.
“Proud of you, kid.” Will whispered, patting you gently on the head as Jay was smiling so hard, his face might fall off.
“Nothing but.” Jay reinforced.
