Motherfucking Lavender Lemonade
Five simple fucking ingredients in this bitch right here. This is some good shit to make when you are feeling bougie as fuck. High-fructose corn syrup? Naw son, I don’t play that. Hit this with some vodka though, different story. Max relax.
LAVENDER LEMONADE
5 cups of water
½ -ž cup sugar (yeah, it is fucking lemonade. without the sugar it is just real sour fucking water)
ž cup Meyer lemon juice, about 6 lemons (you can just use the regular lemons at the store too, not a dealbreaker)
juice of half a lime
4 sprigs of fresh lavender
Bring the water to a boil in a medium pot. Add the sugar and simmer that shit on a low heat for about 5 minutes. Make sure to stir it on the regular. The sugar should be all dissolved in the water by now with no little fucking grains rolling around in there. Turn off the heat and stir in the lemon juice, lime juice, and lavender. Let it cool until it is around room temperature. Take the lavender pieces out but use a fucking spoon and not your fingers if you are going to serve that shit to other people. Put the lemonade in the fridge to cool down all the way. Serve with lemon wedges and a pinch of dried lavender if you want it to look fucking impressive.

makes about 1 quart of chill the fuck out

You thought you’ve seen the last of me!
Sooo I know I disappeared, but I swear I’m still active! Uni is kicking my butt. In better news, I took studying and deadlines way more seriously last semester and it shows in my grades! I got so much better in terms of organisation and motivation, it’s honestly amazing.
I’ll do a better post about my thought process soon, but right now I’m revising my physical chemistry module and hoooooly mooooly is it hard 😫

exams in a month. no motivation. nothing is revised. help?
Hey! My favourite quote is “studying sucks less than failing” - it motivated me so much with exams. Obviously different exams and their grades have a different impact depending on their importance but failing is just shitty all round - especially when you could be taking small (!!) steps to change that. I don’t think you should pressure yourself in studying for hours on end every single day. That isn’t beneficial and you shouldn’t tell yourself that is the only way to study. You can work around yourself - discipline is important but there is a difference between pushing yourself a bit and pushing yourself beyond. This is a cute example. Here are a few links that might help:

On hard work
I had a realisation kinda thing last night and I think what I’m about to say makes a lot of sense to most people, but somehow it took at while for me to get it and to sink in.
It’s not supposed to be easy.
I’ve spent the last few days/weeks feeling particularly sorry for myself because I had so much work to do and I felt like I couldn’t keep up because I had too many readings and I couldn’t work through it all in one day. And then last night I realised that that’s okay. I’ve been really lucky so far in the sense that I have blown through my first semester of uni with excellent marks. It’s starting to get a little more complicated now, and that freaked me out. But it’s fine. I came to uni because I can study, and because I want to study. I think I forgot that for a moment, because it was no longer as easy as before and I now need to start putting in more work.
So here’s my tip for myself and anyone else who will listen: don’t freak out when things get tough. Power through it, because you can. You came here to study, to get that degree, diploma, whatever, and you will. It’s okay if it’s difficult, because no one ever told you it was going to be easy. In fact, most people probably told you it was going to be hard. But they probably also told you that that’s part of the deal, and that that doesn’t make your goal any less attainable. You will get there. In a while, you will stand there with that little piece of paper in your hands and a shit ton of information in your head, and you will feel like you can take on the whole world. So visualise that every time you feel sorry for yourself because you’ve got 10 chapters left to summarise and want to dust the bookcase because it’s been four weeks. Chill out, leave the dust, get yourself some tea and get started on that summary. Starting is the best thing to do, so do it. And don’t give up when you get tired of spending so much time in that study, because it will be soooo worth it.

Pros of studying in the library: makes me hella productive
Cons of studying in the library: every time I spend more than two hours there I end up coming home with a bug 😷😷😷

4.2.18 // studygram: alimastudies
definition of a studyblr: a study blog on tumblr
This is starting to become a hot topic in the studying community and people are starting to become more aware that just because some people like to upload their notes or make videos about it does not mean in anyway that they study 24/7 and never leave their room. It does not mean that all we do is study. It does not mean that we always do our homework, we never forget anything, we wouldn’t want to do anything else apart from studying.
We are still human. We get bored after studying for a while. We procrastinate. We want to watch netflix instead of doing our assignments. Just because we have an account related to studying does not mean that we are closed minded people and we have no hobbies.
Heck, I can go out for the whole day on a Saturday, study for a few hours on a Sunday and still get an A on that chemistry test. I could binge watch a series instead of doing my homework and then do it last minute and still get full marks on it. I could study for a few hours and then enjoy the rest of my day doing different things and still get ace that test. It is a matter of balance, not because I spend my whole day studying.
Hardly anyone I know in real life knows that I have a study related account. Despite this, people are aware I get good grades and automatically assume that I get A’s in every test and I always complete my homework, and the one time I don’t it’s as if I have committed a grave sin. People automatically assume that whenever I have a free period, all I do is study (when in reality i talk to my friends as i have most of my frees with them) , or when I am not on social media it is because I was studying.
Having the pressure that you need to get A’s in every test or else you can’t have a study related account is unhealthy. I just want to put it out their that you DO NOT NEED A’S TO CREATE A STUDY RELATED ACCOUNT.
Having a study related account is to help you get motivated and procrastinate less. It is a way to show how hard you work for the grades you deserve to get and getting recognition for it. It is a way of rewarding yourself by posting a picture of your beautiful and effective notes. It is not because all that is ever in your mind is “studying”.
So next time you come across a study related account, please think twice before you assume that all they do is study :)
Disclaimer: I am not hating on the studying community or anyone in any way. Being part of this community is one of the best decisions I have made and I am so grateful for it. This is just my opinion x
thank you for reading this

today my physiology professor, a kick ass scientist who worked at oxford and mother of two children, took some time to wish us all a happy international women’s day. she told us that one of her professors at oxford said to her that she would never manage to have a career in science after having children so she showed us a picture of her, 4 weeks before giving birth to her son, in her lab coat working on a super complex analysis of heart failure (I really wish I could post it on here but I won’t for her privacy). This made me cry. Be unapologetically fierce, proud of who you are, aware of what you want and go get it. Happy international women’s day everyone

Please read if you’re a student
You are NOT PROCRASTINATING, if - you’re sick - you have headache - you feel pain - you’re exhausted - you feel anxious - you have had big changes in your life that make you feel tired/restless/anxious/sad - you have to skip a class/take rest because of reasons I mentioned above. It’s not procrastinating. You’re not lazy. Everyone needs to have rest and take care of themselves when they’re sick. IT IS NOT OKAY TO WORK IN PAIN. Don’t burn out. It’s not worth it. Do not feel guilty. After some rest and relaxing you will study even more effectively. If you feel pain, - take a medicine if it works for you - put all of your books away - take warm shower - eat at least 1 healthy thing and 1 treat/feel-good-food, drink water - go to bed, sleep or read a book/listen to music that is not related to your school (if you have headache/migraine I suggest you to switch off the lights and just sleep) - just take your time - it’ll be all okay.

In this post, I’m going to talk about the study methods that have worked for me and that I learned during my time at UCLA!
(see another post like this about being healthy here)
Short Term Productivity
Use a stickynote/index card and write a couple goals for today only. Don’t write too many or you will feel overwhelmed! Stick it on your laptop or planner or notebook (somewhere you will see it)
Have a whiteboard at your desk and write down things you need to remember (like a simple equation or some vocab)
While waiting for something (the bus, your coffee, the shower to warm up) have something to recite in your head (probably something you already know, but would like to reALLY KNOW)
When you read, try to tie big concepts to things you would remember easily (like acronyms or symbols) like for example i remember gen chem oxidation as OIL RIG: Oxidation is Loss (of electrons) and Reduction is Gain (of electrons) and I remember the first four unordinary hydrocarbons from Me Eat Peanut Butter (lmao): Methane, Ethane, Propane, Butane
Longer Term Productivity
Plan out your weeks!!! Plan when you will study on each day of the week and keep track of due dates
Make it a habit to do homework/assignments AS SOON AS YOU CAN (like right after you snack or something after classes)
Try not to think about how long you will study and rather think about the number of topics you will study
Don’t stop until you feel confident in your knowledge OTHERWISE YOULL JUST LOSE IT IT ALL
Keep your notes organized because you never know when something is gonna bite you in the butt again in the future
Review everyday. Like, Serioouslyyyy. It helps a lot.
Read before going to bed instead of being on your phone for 400 hours :C I THINK ITS TRUE THAT THE STUFF YOU READ BEFORE BED STAYS WITH YOU BETTER BC YOU GET TO SLEEP ON IT
Try to keep your area quiet or have only white background noise because if someone is talking about the weather and you’re studying math, best believe you’ll only remember the weather
Reading a Textbook
Most of the time, you don’t need to read the introduction paragraphs.
Read the bolded titles to see what you will be getting into
Before class you can skim lightly!! It will help you not feel lost in class
AFTER CLASS you will now FOCUS YOUR READING ON WHAT WAS SAID IN CLASS because most of the time, class-covered topics ARE THE MOST IMPORTANT! save yoself some time!!
When reading after class, do NOT just read. If you go over something that makes you go ??? in even the slightest way, read it again to understand. Look it up. Do it in THAT moment because you’re gonna forget to do it later.
If you don’t wanna read the whole darn book because ur lazy (like me) or you are cramming, READ!! THE!! SUMMARY!!!
The back of the book might have some seriously useful appendixes
Try not to skip the diagrams and pictures lol they’re there for a reason
Taking Notes in Class
dont be on your phone or whatever during class time Like actually PAy attention because if you learn it now, you won’t have to try to learn it again later (you can be on your phone later)
Take down everything written on the boards FOR SURE because if the professor/teacher thinks it’s important to write it, you better think it’s important too
Be an engaged listener! Don’t let it slide straight thru ur head
Try not to scribble your notes so you can read it later
Make CLEAR HEADERS for the topics so you can find those notes quickly
Def make friends in class in case you miss something on the notes ://
Doing Practice Problems and Homework
Get yoUR HOMEWORK DONE FIRST OF ALL
Homework is seriously a great study tool because your instructor assigned that FOR A REASON (aka it’s prob gonna be tested on)
Try to know what you are doing before you start the homework so that you don’t feel lost as heck doing it
When doing practice problems, if you have the answers, don’t be afraid to look at the answer the first time around if you don’t know how to do it. IVE SELF TAUGHT MYSELF SOOOOO MUCH by just looking at the answer to a question.
DONT RELY ON THE ANSWERS THO
Don’t memorize how to do the practice problems, you should memorize the method of solving the problem and understand each step clearly (and understand WHY you do that step!!!) just in case the test pulls some funky stuff on you
The more you can do, the better. But don’t be sleepy and do them because you won’t really retain anything
Other Random Things
My organic chem professor actually did a funny study on sleep and test scores. He said on his final exam he asked “How many hours of sleep did you get last night?”
and like obviously the more hours of sleep reported, generally the higher the student scored on the exam
SLEEEEPING IS GOOD FOR YOUR LEARNING
WHEN YOU SLEEP AND HIT THE REM CYCLE, YOUR BRAIN PROCESSES THE INFORMATION BETTER and it will really stay with you. So yall need to sleep. Don’t do the all nighters. You won’t remember anything
anyways like nike you should Just Do It
I hope you guys find this useful!! Remember that everyone has different needs and preferences, so take these tips as just tips and not rules!! Experiment with things, see what you like best, see what gives you the best scores.
Good luck with everything~ thank you for reading!
