Can you explain why people are looting? It seems counterproductive and overall pointless to me. This is simply reinforcing the stereotype that POC are all criminals and "thugs" while doing absolutely nothing to benefit lost lives. Personally, it just doesn't make any sense. You can say you're going against the system, but it's the wrong system and does nothing but hurt the cause in my mind. How is robbing your local Target supposed to stop cops from murdering POC?
Martin Luther King once called a riot, the language of the unheard. I get it seems ridiculously counter productive in the grand scheme of things, especially within the media. But when the police murder, who do you call for justice? If the riots didn’t take place, what would it have taken for the officer to be arrested. What would it have taken to get justice? People are angry and out of options to bring attention to what happened to their city and what a group of officer did to their own citizen. Protesting and marching peacefully didn’t send enough of a message. These people weren’t being heard. So at some point you have to find a way to make a lot of noise and be heard and show that your people won’t stand for this kind of thing to happen and let the officers getaway with it and not be charged.
I absolutely understand where you’re coming from. But there’s a history of injustice surrounding the murders of black people by police officers. We’ve all been exposed to this thing for years on end, now more than ever and people won’t stand for injustice. So if a target burns down and people steal a bunch of shit to make some noise and bring attention to get an officer who committed blatant murder, let them. As I said before, things can be rebuilt, lives can’t be brought back. There’s so much history behind why people resort to rioting, especially in this case. If the people won’t be taken seriously and be acknowledged, then they will be all means kick back, and I’m all for it.
