"That’s nice." He nodded, and looked away from her again to skim the document, to ensure he’d put in everything he needed— and he was trying, honestly, to focus on her as well, but. Such was his cursed self; so ignorant, so horribly negligent— so. Not him. "Ah— Granny’s?" He asked; and he had to replay her words over in his head— taking a moment to decipher exactly what she was saying. He frowned— looked guiltily down at his desk a moment before looking back at her, a sad expression stuck on his face— "Sweetie, I’m going to be very busy today- I don’t think I have time to take you out for dinner, I’m really sorry. Honestly— I am sorry, if I could, I would. You know I would." He spoke, regret lacing his tone— but his cursed self couldn’t leave work for such things.

Because work made money; money bought her toys, her food, her luxuries. Money made her happy. Him taking her to dinner would lose that money, and somehow, in his mind’s eye— his money was worth more to her than he was. "Maybe some other time?"

Alice felt her heart sink, and yet she expected that answer all the same. 

    ❝ ----M'kay. Another time. Yes. That sounds delightful. ❞

The child wiped her tears and smiled sadly at him, bobbing her head and wiggling her body; her body language showing that she was happy, though her heart was anything but.

     Another time.                       It's always another time.                                         There won't be another time.

      ❝ May I play in here while you work then?                              I promise to play quietly.                                      a'won't disrupt you. Promise. ❞

She was desprate to be around him, and craved for attention--sure she loved her toys and food and all of the luxuries he gave her, but that was because they came from him, not because she needed them.

The little girl just wanted to burst into tears, to run into his arms and not let go of him. She felt a connection with her adopted father, one she couldn't ignore. He truly did love her as his daughter, and she loved him as her father, even if he hadn't a clue how to show it.

Alice's chest rose and fell, breath escaping her parted lips as she stared at him, and she realized she had yet to answer him. Yes, little one? Is anything the matter? That's what started her silent breakdown.

"Yes, 'm okay," She told him, though it was far from the truth; she wanted to lie to protect him. As much as she wanted him to worry about her, she also didn't want to bother him with her problems, so she kept quiet. "I just wanted to see how you were doing...And maybe if we could go to Granny's tonight, together, for dinner?"

A new life || Grace (Alice) and Jefferson || Cursed!AU

Regina had rewritten the curse due to Jefferson's loyalty to her (despite everything she had done) but this new curse wasn't what he would want. His cursed self was not a man he would want to be.

Now three lives would lurk in the young girl's head when the curse would finally be broken, Grace, Paige, and her new name, Alice. Regina had renamed her Alice because she knew that had been the girl's mother's name, and Regina was a cruel woman.

In Grace's mind, she was the daughter of the neighbors she had stayed with back in their land. Her name was Alice and she was the adopted daughter of the wealthy Jefferson.

Alice sat in her room, feeling a bit lonely. Her 'adopted' father always seemed to be too busy to play with her, and in turn, he bought her more toys than she could ever imagine. At the moment, she sat at her small table, holding a stuffed rabbit in her hands, the one that Regina hadn't let the two buy back in the land with magic. Alice gazed down her beloved rabbit, she remembered really wanting it at a store for some reason, but now she could care less about it and it made her sad. Her lip twitched, tugging into a sad smile as she gazed at it. A sigh escaped her lips; she didn't care about any of these things in her home, she just wanted to be loved--Her real parents had given her up, and now her father, her sweet sweet new father, was too busy for her.

The young girl stood up, keeping the rabbit in her arms. She decided to head to the room she could always find her father in, and she offered a small smile as she lingered in the doorway. Alice leaned against the frame of the door, as if waiting for Jefferson to notice her before she would speak.

hmmmm.... Regina would still try to make them unhappy, wouldn't she? 

maybe Jefferson is too indulged in his work? He loves Grace but work keeps him busy? That he tries to keep her happy with things because he does love her, but thinks materialist things can buy love and happiness? (because he lives in a mansion and all) I don't know... Haha. I haven't actually written a cursed verse, so I guess that's what we're here to do right now? x3

or we can do the opposite way. Grace being the one to push him away while Jefferson does what he can for her? He struggles, both trying to shower her with affection and love, but she doesn't know how to return the love? 

Or maybe even instead of being his bio daughter, she thinks she's his adopted daughter in this new 'life' and that's hard on her because she thinks the neighbors are her real parents?
