Wanna make a monster? Take the parts of yourself that make you uncomfortable — your weaknesses, bad thoughts, vanities, and hungers — and pretend they’re across the room. It’s too ugly to be human. It’s too ugly to be you. Children are afraid of the dark because they have nothing real to work with. Adults are afraid of themselves.

German movies Part 1
Hey guys! I noticed how many people on this website are learning German or want to learn it. It is my mother tongue and I love German cinema. We all know that movies help to improve language skills, so I made a list about my favorite German films and some must-sees! I hope you enjoy these films!
Keinohrhasen (the main actor is problematic IRL and also in this movie but I still like it, a journalist has to work in a day care center because he fucked up Vladimir Klitschko’s party, he meets the girl he used to bully when he was a teenager and then they fall in love… this movie is so typical for that director lmao)
Zweiohrküken (the same characters as in Keinohrhasen, they move in together and it’s a mess, also the guy’s ex affair wants him back and the woman’s ex boyfriend - whose dick she describes as the eiffel tower - is back in the city and wants to be with her again, drama drama drama, cute, typical German rom-com)
Anatomie (very bloody! about a girl who wants to become a doctor, creepy things happen at her summer med school)
Die wilden Hühner (a kids’ movie based on famous books, a cute girl gang wants to save a few chicken from a member’s granny who wants to kill and freeze them, very cute film)
(T)raumschiff surprise (gay people in space, ICONIC)
Fack ju Göhte (supposed to mean Fuck you Goehte, a criminal pretends to be a teacher, great comedy, sexy main actor, CHANTAL CRY LESS NOISY!)
Good bye, Lenin (iconic movie, a woman was in coma for 8 months and her son makes her believe the GDR still exists, awesome soundtrack, great story, cute couple, very moving)
Die Welle (a teacher makes a social experiment about fascism with his class and it goes wrong!! a must-see!)
Pünktchen und Anton (adaption of a famous novel, cute movie for children but I’m in my twenties and I still love it, a rich girl and a poor boy become friends)
Die dunkle Seite des Mondes (don’t take drugs guys, just don’t! this movie will show you why! the main character goes crazy - but is it just because he took drugs? find out!!)
Jeune Homme ((Swiss)German and French film about a guy who makes an au pair year, gets laid by the neighbour lady and falls in love with the host parents’ oldest daughter)
7 Zwerge - Männer allein im Wald (it’s like Snow White and the 7 dwarfs but very trashy, the dwarfs are big, the prince has a wild hair style and Snow White loves playing with her barbie. Ah, and the evil queen’s outfits are iconic and weird)
Die wilden Kerle (a kids’ movie about boys who play soccer - we all love it! EVERYTHING’S ALRIGHT AS LONG AS YOU’RE WILD! BE WILD - DANGEROUS AND WILD!)
Sommer (teen movie about the first love, takes place on an island, skater boy meets rich boy and they both love the same girl, teenage drama, i don’t wanna spoil but some people almost die and sth burns down)
Das Missenmassaker (12 girls who want to be Miss Switzerland, bitch fights 24/7 and a lot of blood because a lot of people get killed)
For No Eyes Only (Rear Window for teenagers, a very interesting thriller, cute main characters)
Homevideo (a guy films himself while masturbating, someone finds the video and then the drama starts, his family also falls apart)
Grosse Mädchen weinen nicht (two teenage girls, lots of feelings, sex, dangerous things)
Lola rennt (reminds me of The Butterfly Effect, iconic film, i don’t even wanna say more about it just watch it)
Who am I - Kein System ist sicher (movies about hackers with big plans and sometimes you have no idea if what you see is what is real)
Das Leben der Anderen (must see! fucking sad tho)
Cannabis (a member of the Swiss federal council who is against the legalization of weed has to consume weed because he has a problem with his eye and this helps - ofc his life changes and gets wild)
Die Herbstzeitlosen (4 old Swiss woman open a lingerie shop in a lil village and people freak out)
Grounding - Die letzten Tage der Swissair (the story behind the grounding of Swissair, the national airline of Swizzy)
Das Experiment (based on a true story, some people engage in a prison experiment - some are good people, others are bad people and ofc it escalates quickly)

How to Read (a Lot) More Books This Year, According to Harvard Research
culturenlifestyle:
Reading is a huge key to success and wealth, but how can you actually benefit from this habit as a busy adult?

Reading books is a major key to success. The mega-rich and successful like Bill Gates and Elon Musk devote extraordinary amounts of their time to reading. Musk even attributes his knowledge of how to build rockets to his reading repertoire, and studies have proven that reading can reduce stress, increase focus, and improve long- and short-term memory.
The benefits of flexing your reading muscles are clear. But reading is time-consuming — and as a busy professional, it’s almost impossible to both find the time to read and actually stay focused enough to reap the benefits when deadlines start piling up.
Thankfully, experts at Harvard Business Review (along with a few others) have discovered some tips and tricks to ensure that you not only make reading a daily habit, but that you‘re able to radically increase the amount you read and the benefits you reap.
Read on for seven practical ways to continue to improve your reading habits as time goes on:

A little motivation for myself
Finding myself is like a wild-goose chase I have my own goals, I have that passion, that ambition, that bravery... But still, I was lost, confused, disatisfied... There are a lot of people who are better and prettier than me, then can I have any chance to compete with? I realize that my life is not a race, not where I try to be compare myself with others, to become someone else...
I know that I must make a difference. I know I have the power to change it all. If really want something, I definitely will get it. If I have already decided to do it, thhe whole world would help me achieve success. I believe in myself. I can make it. For now, stop spending time on Facebook and other social media. Not completely, but just avoid. I realize that recently, I’ve been so into these things, uploading a photo, sitting there counting likes, dreaming of becoming a hot face... OMG, I just wanna slap myself, for wasting so much time in an unreal world, with people I don’t really know... I want the fame just like others, so banal, so unrealistic... And that wouldn’t last long. Becoming famous for your achievements, for your knowledge and kindness is way more genuine. I have visualized the type of person who I want to be, the moment of glory I deserve... It was like a dream, I know, too faraway, but it is possible.
Be brave enough to overcome your laziness, your procrastination. Think about that day when you get it all, when you walk in the sparkle and everyone else is watching you with admiration... You know more, experience more, get to learn from the people you have always look up to... That feeling, can you imagine, like you have nothing to regret, completely satisfy with yourself. You can go travel while others are preparing for the examination, receive the prize in honour when your rivals are looking at you jealously... And finally, starting a relationship. Once your family had satisfied with your study, you can get to go on a date freely. Cause you have worked hard, anything now is like a reward. Being in a relationship with a guy who is also a brilliant, hard-working and ambitous just like you... Isn’t the whole thing what you have always wanted?
After all, everything will be worth it
This day next year, will be a red-letter day in my life

However, while it’s important to have a nice, long break, you also don’t want to get yourself out of the great habits you’ve created over the school year. So, this guide is here to tell you how you can still be productive while having your off-time this summer vacation!

Hey guys! These are 7 (technically 8) tips on how to get straight A’s! I’m sorry for the mistakes — ONE: the tip “Some Study Methods” should actually be number 7, not number 1 hehe. TWO: in tip number 6, “Doing your homework”, it says ‘always remember tip number 6!’ what I mean is *always remember tip number 5!* STUDYBLRS — reblog this for a possible follow hehe (see tip 3). Anyway this whole thing took me HOURS. Hopefully it helps someone! ily all & good luck!

Good Habits to Develop
1. Set yourself some daily goals. Keep them realistic and achievable. That will give direction – so you don’t fritter your time.
2. Read inspirational books and blogs; hang around people who are positive.
3. Stay in touch with what’s happening in the world. We’re not just islands – we are part of one another.
4. Make the effort to stay in touch. Just a “like” on facebook, or a brief text message, conveys to that person that they matter to you.
5. Invest some time in your appearance and health. We’re more confident when we look and feel our best.
6. Pay attention to your priorities. Do what’s most important, and not most urgent, first. (Note: If you never learn to prioritise then everything seems urgent – and that’s what runs your life!)
7. Smile. It makes people feel more positive towards you – and it tends to lift our mood, and enhance our feelings, too.
8. Tidy as you go. It’s easier to work, and you’ll feel a lot less stressed, if you’re working somewhere that’s devoid of clutter. Also, if you tidy as you go then it feels less overwhelming.
9. Include some margin in your life so you don’t feel so stressed, as unexpected things always eat away our time. Expect that to happen – and leave some extra time.
10. Take time for yourself as you need to relax, unwind, recover, and recharge your batteries.

So, for my first masterpost, I decided to write an anti-masterpost. This is because I love masterposts, but sometimes they are just way too many links, and while some stuff is super helpful, a lot of it is repetitive or doesn’t work for me. So, these are my top 5 study tips. Just 5 tips, minimal links… ready to change your life?
1) Sleep.
Okay I’m really sorry I know this advice is everywhere, but sleep is soooo important. I used to stay up super late and get around 3 hours of sleep, but getting sleep is essential to a functioning brain. My biggest piece of advice is to take better advantage of daylight hours so you can get enough sleep at night. Every since I started getting more sleep, I’ve been happier, more focused, and more motivated. Not sleeping isn’t glamorous, and it’s unhealthy.
2) The Pomodoro Method.
If you haven’t heard of this yet, you’re really missing out. Using this method to do my work has made me so much more productive during the daylight hours (allowing me to get more sleep, yay!). Keeping track of your work time and your break time is super motivating and the pomodoro method is the perfect method to organize your time. I also like to have competitions with myself to see how many pomodoros I can get in one day! Here are a few links to help you get started using this method! :)
simple & awesome explanation of pomodoro
the app that I use on my phone (it’s free!)
the application I have downloaded on my computer (also free!)
3) Get off you devices!
I used to spend so much time on social media that I would loose a ton of sleep/study time. It’s so so so important to find a way to block out all these distractions. Don’t just tell yourself “I won’t go on my phone,” because pretty soon you’ll slip and you’ll have just wasted an hour on your phone accomplishing nothing. These are the methods I use to block out distractions!
this app saved me omg (the forest app, it makes you get off your phone)
self control, an app to block distracting websites on your computer
it also works really, really well to just delete distracting apps off your phone for a day. A lot of the time I tell myself I’m going to just “quickly check” social media, but by deleting the apps it prevents this supposed “quick check.”
4) Find your study method
It’s extremely helpful to know how you study best. All over studyblr, people are telling you how to study. You definitely don’t need to study the way other people tell you to, but it’s great to experiment with different study methods. Find out what type of learner you are, and what type of studying works best for you. Personally, I’m a visual learner and I love to make flashcards and take really pretty notes. Knowing what works for you is essential to good grades and good studying. Have fun experimenting! Here is a masterpost with some great studying methods to try.
5) Find (and don’t over do!) your study aesthetic
Firstly I’d just like to apologize for saying aesthetic, but what I mean by this is find the environment, mood, time of day, and tools you study best with. What do you want around you when you study? At what time of day do you study best? What music do you like to study with in the background? What stationary, planner, and other study materials get you motivated? It’s also super important not to become too obsessed with this stuff. If you are spending more time making your study environment perfect than you are actually studying then you are not being productive. Maximize your productivity with a good study environment, but don’t waste time making it overly perfect. For me a productive but not time consuming study set up/environment includes:
a desk
a planner or bullet journal
good study music (my favorite study playlists all in one spot!)
tea (english breakfast tea or herbal peppermint)
my favorite pens (I’m a steadler triplus fineliner girl)
SO that concludes my first anti-masterpost/masterpost. I’d love it if you let me know how these tips worked out for you. My ask is open and welcoming you if you have any other questions or you just want to chat. Have an amazing (insert time of day)!
- Annika
