Stefanie Salvatore is the adopted daughter of Damon and Elena (Gilbert) Salvatore. They adopted her through a mutual friend of the Salvatore School’s who had contacted Caroline and Alaric to see if there was someone willing to adopt a witch who was eight years old.

Stefanie was born biologically male, but began identifying as female at a young age. By six, she was certain she was female, and identified herself as being so.

Left by her birth parents, Stefanie was raised in foster care, mostly, but she doesn’t remember much of it.

When Damon and Elena agreed to adopt her, she asked for a girls name to replace her birth name. From then, Stefanie was who she was always meant to be.

Whilst her parents were encouraging of her making her own decision, Stefanie knew that most of her family expected her to attend the Salvatore School. However, the idea of going to a school that you share the namesake with wasn’t really appealing to Stefanie, and she ultimately decided to attend Mystic Falls High like her mother.

Despite not attending the Salvatore School, Stefanie made sure to harness her magic with the help of her family members, and knows a lot of the witches at the school.

She was planning on becoming a nurse, after spending her summers in her mother’s practice and getting to know the nurses her mother worked with. She had been accepted to Whitmore College, before she was taken to Beacon Hills.

Stefanie likes to think that, despite being adopted, she’s a good mix of her parents. Her father’s brazen attitude with her mother’s intelligence and compassion. Stefanie is ambitious, headstrong, and brave, and unashamedly herself.

With everything going on, she’s going to work hard to try to fix things, even if it is futile.

Stefanie’s secret is that she’s drawn to dark magic. She’s always had a draw to it, and she has never spoken up about it, despite how much it secretly concerns her. She’s wishing more and more she had more information about her biological parents and what magic they may have practiced.
